THE PLANNED PARENTHOOD ATOM BOMB
Capitol Hill Republicans are trying to find a “solution” to their Planned Parenthood conundrum. I’m not sure there is one, not in the sense that they mean. If they do their investigations and prove Planned Parenthood is doing what the videos depict them doing, then vote to fund Planned Parenthood, that actually makes it worse, not better (and it likely won’t move a single Democratic vote on the matter). If they use reconciliation to force President Obama to veto over Planned Parenthood, that’s a good step – but then they’ll still need to pass something the president will actually sign – a CR that funds Planned Parenthood. It feels like everything that happens between now and the end of September will only add moral weight behind defunding, ultimately making the inevitable Republican sellout hurt the base even worse.   – Ben Domenech
