Illinois Bishop Plans Same-Sex Marriage Exorcism

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Nov. 15 (UPI) — The Catholic bishop of Springfield, Ill., claiming same-sex marriage is the work of the devil, says he will perform an exorcism ceremony next week.
The exorcism by Bishop Thomas Paprocki at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the state capitol, is officially called “Prayers of Supplication and Exorcism in Reparation for the Sin of Same-Sex Marriage.”
The ceremony will take place Nov. 20, the same day Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to sign Illinois’ same-sex marriage bill into law, CNN reported Friday.
Paprocki said he is following the orders of Pope Francis, noting when the Pope was an archbishop in Argentina he referred to the country’s legalization of same-sex marriage “a move of the father of lies who wishes to confuse and deceive the children of God.”
“The Pope’s reference to ‘father of lies’ comes from the Gospel of John, where Jesus refers to the devil as ‘a liar and father of lies,’ so Pope Francis is saying that same-sex marriage comes from the devil and should be condemned as such,” Paprocki added.
He noted the ceremony will adhere to the Catholic Church Rite of exorcism, which explains Satan can not only inhabit people but can also invade the church and the government.
“We must pray for deliverance from this evil which has penetrated our state and our church,” he said.

To acknowledge the forces of evil is not to give it unnecessary recognition, but to treat the spiritual enemies with the respect that we would give to a staph infection or cancer in the body. God tells us through Saint Paul: “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” Ephesians 6:12
The Principalities and Powers are two of the nine choirs of angels. After the battle in Heaven between St. Michael’s good angels and Lucifer’s bad angels, the bad ones were cast out of Heaven and into hell. St. Paul’s reference to the Principalities and Powers is a reference to angelic demons in hell which belong to the angelic choir of Principalities and angelic choir of Powers.
For a bishop to recognize the enemy and fight him is a holy thing. I only know of one other bishop in the U.S.A. who was this bold, and he is Bishop Rene’ H. Gracida of Corpus Christi. During his time as ordinary (1983-1997), he believed in the ministry of exorcism by establishing a seasoned exorcist for that special ministry.
As long as we continue to have a few good bishops who recognize that there is a spiritual battle going on which is goes beyond the visible, there will still be hope.
