THE NAMES OF PASTORAL WORKERS, PRIESTS, MEN AND WOMEN RELIGIOUS AND LAY CATHOLICS
KILLED DURING 2010
Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Once again this year, Fides publishes an annual document of all the pastoral workers who lost their lives in a violent manner over the course of the last 12 months. According to information in our possession, during 2010, 25 pastoral care workers were killed: one Bishop, 17 priests, one male religious, one religious sister, two seminarians and three lay people.
Analysing the list for each continent, again this year the place most affected, with an extremely elevated number of deaths is AMERICA, bathed with the blood of 17 pastoral care workers: 12 priests, one male religious, one seminarian and three lay people. Following is ASIA, with one Bishop, four priests and one religious sister killed. The least affected was AFRICA, where one priest and one seminarian violently lost their lives.
This document reveals the falsehood of those who teach that secularization produces “kinder and gentler” human beings. In 2007, a group of scientists gathered for a conference entitled “Beyond Belief: Science, Religion, Reason, and Survival.” Nobel physicist Steven Weinberg delivered an address where he said: “Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” This is an ominous new form of secularism. It sums up the credo of the new radical atheists and anti-theists. But before we unmask the new secularism, let’s take a look at the marvelous progress that has been made under purely secular societies:
Adolf Hitler regime ……………………………….. 55 million killed
Stalin’s government …………………………….. 20 million killed
Mao Zedong’s regime ………………………….. 40 million killed
Khmer Rouge regime …………………………… 1.65 million killed
And lest we think this is just applies to Fascist or Communist secularism . . .
America (post Roe V Wade)…………………….. 53 million killed
What many Americans don’t realize is that by advocated larger and larger government, what they are really advocating is larger and larger secular government, larger and larger government that is openly hostile to religious freedom. Today I stood with a group of anti-abortion protestors standing peacefully in front of Planned Parenthood saying the rosary. People who disagreed with them didn’t just pass by and shake their heads. There was vehement hatred: the “F” word shouted out of car windows and cars speeding up and veering towards the anti-abortion people. Cars would speed up, change lanes and head for those who were praying as if they were attempting to jump the curb and kill them. This is no longer the secularism of 18th and 19th century deists. This is not a secularism that wants to go back to the religious tolerance of past agnostics and deists. This is anti-theist secularism.
There is a kind of pride that desires to adorn itself in values for its own self-glorification and vanity. But there is a more insidious kind of pride, a pride that views all values as an insult and injury to its own glory. This is a kind of pride that hates all light and attempts to dethrone all values. When early secularists with childhood roots in Christianity lost their faith, they were content to say that Christian values were simply unimportant. But we’re facing a new type of secularist. These are atheists and anti-theists who view Christian values as a threat to their own self-importance. Yet many Americans think that if the secularism isn’t communist or fascist, then it is harmless. They think atrocities that happened in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany cannot happen here.
A theologian writing on Protestant and Catholic ideas on justification made an interesting remark. He said that people today don’t talk about sin and justification and are of the opinion that God has be be justified by man rather than that man is a sinner and needs grace from God. The thing that atheism hates above all else is the belief that we are sinners and must daily run to the mercy of God through His grace. Under anti-theism, “sin” cannot exist. There is no sin for anti-theists, only social problems solved through various forms of socialism. Americans need to wake up to what’s coming. A secularism that wishes to deny religious freedom is the prelude to religious persecution!!!
