THE DEAD BODY OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS COULD BE, INDEED SHOULD BE, ADORED

!!!!

Andrew Greenwell commented on THE GRAPHIC IMAGES ON PRO-LIFE POSTERS ARE IMAGES OF THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST

Good article.
As an aside, I always viewed the crucifix as the ultimate symbol of the hypostatic union. Jesus’s dead body remained hypostatically united to the person of the Son of God. Though truly dead in his human nature, the dead human body of Christ could be, indeed should be, adored. True, Christ is no longer dead, but the words from the Stabat mater, dum pendabet filio, could be said to apply to both Mary’s son, and God’s son, since Christ’s human body was hypostatically still joined with the person of the Son of God. Until his soul returned into that body and re-animated it and then made it rise again, that dead body, in the tomb, was joined in its unique way to God.
