DO NOT GET TOO INTERESTED IN THE DEVIL OR THE DEVIL WILL GET INTERESTED IN YOU!

!!!!

Painting called “The Last Judgement” by Luca Signorelli painted about 1500 A.D in the Fresco Cathedral, Orvieto, Italy.

They say that every author’s work has a certain style that identifies them; a kind of signature. One could read a work where an author’s name was concealed and say: “Oh, this is Shakespeare,” or “Oh, this is Cervantes.” Well, Satan has a certain signature too, I imagine. Perhaps it could be described as “terrifying irony:” Healer physicians dedicated to the saving of lives becoming abortion butchers. Pharmacists dispensing infanticide poisons. It seems to be a signature of Satan to try to turn the best into the absolute worst: a philosopher dedicated to the love of wisdom who becomes a radical skeptic; a scientist seeking the laws of nature who ends up teaching that everything is the result of absurd chance; a theologian who strives for faith seeking understanding, who loses the faith and becomes a proselytizing heretic.

It seems to be Satan’s “style” to try to bring down the most noble people, not just down a notch . . . but down to the ethical gutter, down, down, down to the moral sewer: a politician dedicated to serving the citizens through the enactment of just laws who creates a law like abortion designed to kill citizens; a Supreme Court Justice who sanctions infanticide at the highest level.

When I was a young theology student, I was in the library reading a book by a liberal “Catholic” theologian who was teaching that belief in Satan was not an “essential” doctrine of the Catholic faith. And a very elderly Catholic professor happened to see me there reading this book. He walked by and whispered something to me. He whispered: “Don’t get too interested in the devil or the devil will get interested in you.” Words to remember for life!

I think it was C. S. Lewis who said that one of the greatest “achievements” of Satan was getting people not to believe in his existence. “Modern” society could perhaps be defined as the that intellectual horizon among people that no longer believes in Original Sin or sin of any kind. The great scientist and philosopher Pascal noted that without sin, without Original Sin, Christianity is unintelligible. What did Jesus die to save us from?

If there is no fallen nature, then there is no fallen intellect. Then rationalism, “private judgment” is supreme. Then one can “think” that one can kill babies as a doctor or dispense abortion poisons as a pharmacist. Then one can “think” that it is okay to teach heresy in a Roman Catholic university to young impressionable students in the name of Jesus. Then one can create a political party and political platform dedicated to helping “the little guy” that has a political plank legalizing the murder of the “littlest guy” or girl in the name of the social welfare state. Then one can be a religious leader who teaches that all moral issues are equal and that stopping the abortion holocaust is not any more important than securing the rights of illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses or that securing the rights of illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses is more important than stopping a horrible Holocaust.

It would seem to be part of the devil’s “signature” to blind people to these things and especially to blind those who are involved in the greatest evils to believe that they are doing the greatest good.

“St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. Mary God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust down to hell Satan and all evil spirits who roam about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on us. Most Sacred Heart of Mary, pray for us. Amen.
