    Yes, Carlos, I had learned of the death on my drive to the Cardinal’s residence. After greeting him I expressed my shock over the death of Pope John Paul I. He replied, “Yes, Bishop Gracida it is a great loss for the Church.” I did not have any way of knowing that he would be pope himself within three weeks !!!
