| Let’s say you’re holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you. You spill your coffee. Now, why did you spill coffee? If you think about it, it’s not really because someone bumped into you… You spilled coffee because there was coffee in your cup. If you had tea in your cup, you would have spilled tea. If you had milk, you would have spilled milk. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. In life, when things get rough (which WILL happen), whatever is in your heart will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled. If your heart is filled with anger, frustration, and judgment (you can fill in the blank here), then that’s going to come out. And let’s be real, if you’re not walking with God, some of that stuff can really take over. But if you fill your heart with peace, joy, gratitude, kindness, honesty, humility… then those things will come out. You can’t keep evil out of the world. The brokenness will always be there. But it isn’t what’s out in the world that determines who you are- it’s what’s in your heart that counts. The world around you is crazy. But your heart doesn’t have to be. We all have a soul, but you get to choose how you fill it. |
