I have grave doubts about a “President Romney” doing anything substantive against the evil of abortion. Would he reverse the carte blanche than Obama gave to Planned Parenthood? Would he appoint Supreme Court Justices who would reverse Roe v Wade? His flip flopping doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.

I think that we as a culture have lost the sense of what it means for a value to be “important.” There can be no authentic morality without the concept of importance, said moralist Dietrich von Hildebrand. Stopping the murder of innocent children is not like stopping people from littering on the highway. It cannot be a “plank” in a political “platform,” or even the supposedly apolitical platform of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. It cannot be an “issue” that laymen discuss in a break room along with “other issues ” like immigration or income tax reform. The refusal to order moral values in their intrinsic and sublime order of importance is in itself an immoral act. It is a sin.

I want to cry when I read the USCCB “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” What has happened to the concept of “importance”? Where is the crystal clear hierarchy of values, the “let your communication be yea yea and nay nay?” Okay, this document is sophisticated. But do people today even realize that the word “sophisticated” comes from the Greek word sophistry?

“Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me?” Who is more “least” or our brothers and sisters than the unborn? They are the least of the least and are being poisoned in saline solutions, dismembered and neurologically decapitated daily. They are being flushed down toilets and thrown in medical waste containers. You know in your gut that I am saying the truth What is so hard to understand about this?
