ROBERT PATRICK O’ROURKE, AKA BETO O’ROURKE, HAS A MESSAGE FOR ANYONE TEMPTED TO CELEBRATE SAINT PATRICK DAY WITH A LITTLE TOO MUCH SPIRIT(S)

O’Rourke, who calls himself “Beto” in an effort to pretend he’s Hispanic, was arrested for drunk driving in Texas 20 years ago. He was 26 years old at the time, speeding, hit another car, and tried to flee the scene.
After he agreed to some counseling, all the charges were dropped.

No big deal in the scheme of things, but in a political culture where the establishment media’s seething hatred for President Trump  has normalized trolling, it only makes sense for the Republican Party to get in on the act, which is why the GOP’s St. Patrick’s Day tweet is so glorious:

In fact, let me count the ways in which this tweet is glorious…
It reminds voters O’Rourke is Irish, not HISPANIC.
It reminds voters that O’Rourke’s “Beto” nickname is an affectation so he can pretend to be Mexican.
It uses O’Rourke’s mugshot, and a mugshot is never a good look for a presidential candidate.
It reminds voters that O’Rourke, while speeding around drunk, caused an accident, jumped the median into oncoming traffic, tried to flee the scene, and then had the charges dropped — which is not how this works for most of us.
Because insecure media simpletons are so easily baited with anything that allows them to signal their own precious virtue, the GOP knew their outrage would spread this tweet far and wide, which is exactly what has happened.
Because it’s again in the news, O’Rourke again has to deal with it, which puts him on defense and knocks him off-message.
This predictable (and hypocritical) outrage is yet another way for the GOP to show the American people just what a bunch of humorless, unattractive, crybaby, stick-up-the-ass prigs the media and Democrats have become, which leads me back to my overall point about the reaction…

  1. Camille Giglio says:

Bishop Gracida: I worked for the El Paso, Texas, County Child Protective Services dept in the late 1950’s (when I was in my 20s. (Our first 2 sons were born there). One of my assignments was to interview single parent adoptive hopefulls such as a man who married a woman with an already existing child which this new spouse hoped to adopt. This one assignment required me to interview the spouse (Husband) of a former Las Vegas Casino entertainer. She had a 6 yr old daughter. They lived on the West side of town in the more exclusive side away from any hint of closeness to the Latino population. This man was a spoiled son of a very wealthy set of parents. When I visited the expansive and luxuriously appointed home I found the child’s bedroom to resemble more that of an impoverished household than the soon-to-be daughter of wealth. Anyway, I don’t know which side of town Beto ORourke lives on, but he reminds me of the adopting spouse – a spoiled brat. Some years later I happened to read an obituary notice in a newspaper (I was not living in El Paso at the time) the husband had died in a single passenger airplane crash out in the desert he was flying just outside of town. He and the Las Vegas wife were divorced. The adopted child was listed as inheriting $1.00 from her deceased father. O’Rourke reminds me of this guy.

El Paso is not a safe place to live, nor a beautiful place to live. My husband and I returned for a brief visit about 10 years ago. Every house had bars on the windows and metal screen doors covering the front doors. The Social Work office where I had worked was no longer in the basement of the County Court House but in a secured and guarded bldg. No one was allowed in unless they had an appointment. The town had two military bases, Biggs Airforce and Fort Bliss Army base. Needless to say the jails were filled with arrested prostitutes. Walking across the bridge into Juarez was no more difficult than walking across the street. All you needed was your driver’s license. I discovered that Catholic Charities had a rundown hole-in-the-wall office at the bridge. There I found that I could get one of my young clients, a young boy, his birth certificate out of Mexico. The office I worked for, Child Protective Services, had maintained for years that there was no way to find his birth cert. Anyway after 10 years of living in an orphanage this young teenager was able to leave town, go to Boys Town and be with an older brother. I pray that this Lent bringsd you good health and many blessings. Camille Giglio

  2. Dearest Excellency,

Thank you for this chuckle at the expense of this knuckle… (head). A Mick (I’m allowed to say that) trying to pass for a (oh, my. I’m not allowed to say it…) Spick.

Hope you had a glorious 2nd Sunday of Lent.

I’m very grateful for your powerful prayer support. We did, today, actually resume our Daddy Dave Vigil at Cathedral Square. And God’s sent a prayer partner for me. A fellow named Anthony. Seems a very good soul.

I was relieved to see your post. Take care. Remember:

We all (well, at least those of us who have the sense to come in out of the cold, so to speak) are truly grateful for your intelligent, loving, witty, pithy, with a wink, shepherding. And I’m personally praying about the healing of your poor back. It could be worse. At least it’s not an ancestral Roman scourging… The soul of Irish sympathy, she is… personally, my back’s crooked as a politician, truly – and degenerating right here and now. In front of God and everyone.

GOD LOVES YOU!!! And, (drum roll ~~~~~~~~~} where you live I believe it’s already St Joseph’s Feast Day! St Joseph and St Bernadette are my favs and patrons!!!
