US COVID Deaths In 2021 Have Surpassed 2020’s Total… Despite Vaccines, Treatments etc. compared to

COVID-19 has killed more people in 2021 than 2020.
The virus was reported as the underlying cause of death (or a contributing cause of death) for an estimated 377,883 people in 2020, accounting for 11.3% of deaths, according to the CDC. As of Monday, more than 770,000 people have died from the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University data. That means over 15,000 more people have died in 2021 than last year from COVID-19 – and there’s still more than a month left.

This has happened despite the fact that last year no Americans were vaccinated (now 59% of all eligible Americans have had the “life-saving” jab) and some 17% have received booster shots…
The 2021 U.S. death toll caught some doctors by surprise. They had expected vaccinations and precautionary measures like social distancing and scaled-down public events to curb the spread of infections and minimize severe cases. But, The Wall Street Journal has its own explanation, suggesting lower-than-expected immunization rates as well as fatigue with precautionary measures like masks allowed the highly contagious Delta variant to spread, largely among the unvaccinated, epidemiologists say.
Among missteps, Dr. Abraar Karan, an infectious-diseases doctor at Stanford University, said, public-health officials failed to effectively communicate that the purpose of vaccines is to protect against severe cases of Covid-19 rather than to prevent the spread of infection entirely, which may have led some to doubt the effectiveness of the shots.
CDC has an excuse too, claiming that there was a larger undercount of Covid-19 deaths in 2020, when the disease was newer and a scarcity of tests made confirming some infections difficult.
Deaths remain concentrated in older people (81% of 2020 deaths were among people aged 65 and above, and 69% of the same cohort in 2021).
Still could be worse (and still could be if this latest trend continues in the US)…
“The vaccine is not a panacea,” said Ana Bento, an epidemiologist at Indiana University-Bloomington.

As if the powerlessness of the lowly were not already a heavy psychological burden, we carry the additional weight of knowing that hardly any high-ranking prelate can be found who is willing to oppose the current pope and his entourage, or willing to organize a long-overdue resistance.
A look through the pages of Church history suggests perhaps a different route of defense.

In past centuries, it was often secularrulers who came to the rescue, delivering the People of God from the malicious miter or the pernicious pope. An English friend recently related to me a remarkable story that deserves to be better known among the adulators of the pontifex maximus:
Pope John XII was one of a long line of corrupt popes elected on the nomination of two aristocratic courtesans who held the power in Rome, Marozia and Theodora, Countesses of Tusculum, who ensured that their lovers, sons, grandsons and other relatives were elected pope. A grandson of Marozia, this John XII, elected in his twenties, corrupted the Papacy utterly, shamelessly turning the Lateran Palace into a bordello [brothel] and spending his time in riotous, frivolous, and wasteful living (at least according to the Antapodosis of Bishop Liutprand of Cremona).
He had earlier crowned the Emperor Otto the Great who, upon hearing of John’s riotous life, warned him to reform his life. John did not do so. Now, some delicately nourished canonists argue that the declaration of self-deposition was uncanonical, and others say not. Who, reading this lamentable saga from the pornocracy, would not cheer on good old Otto the Great in his campaign to lance Rome’s incestuous boil? Yet the story also serves to remind us of the sad fact that our modern world affords no Christian emperor to serve as a useful check on excessive papal ambitions (or indiscretions).
Yet we are not without balancing forces—quite powerful ones, in fact. Today’s “emperors” are the media and various secular organizations that exert pressure and influence the social course. We are all familiar with how ministries of art and architecture in Europe have for decades restrained the iconoclastic hand of modernist bishops itching to destroy the beauty paid for by generations of faithful, in the name of an updating that no laity asked for. We must not be too proud to think that we need the help of worldly organizations or civil authorities. They can be our unexpected allies in the battle against the postconciliar hatred of tradition.
Here is where Unesco (that is, United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) enters the picture. This organization has declared many things as “world heritage” and thus protected them from destruction and extinction. According to Unesco’s stipulations in the “Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage” (bit of a mouthful, that), even “ritual” can be recognized as part of one’s heritage such that steps should be taken to preserve it—not just as a memory of something from the past, but as a lived tradition handed down to future generations. In Ireland, for example, holy wells and ancient pilgrim routes have already been preserved in this manner. One lady from Germany told me that in her town, an application is being made to Unesco to include the annual procession of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the World Heritage List. The procession has been held since the seventeenth century, following a vow to the Virgin Mary to save the town from destruction during the Thirty Years’ War.

‘The first step in liquidating a people,’ said Hubl, ‘is to erase its memory. Destroy its books, its culture, its history. Then have somebody write new books, manufacture a new culture, invent a new history. Before long the nation will begin to forget what it is and what it was. The world around it will forget even faster.’
By being listed as intangible cultural heritage by Unesco, the Holy Mass in the Vetus Ordo would enjoy a legally and globally recognized status that could help save it from extinction. It is not as appropriate or romantic as having Christian emperors, kings, princes, dukes, counts, or other aristocratic protectors working on its behalf, but we should not neglect to use whatever resources are available to ensure that a heritage deeper, richer, more beautiful, and more true than any of the thousands listed by Unesco remains present in our midst. In the stirring words of the Abbé Quoëx:
The legacy of the Lord, the Mass is the Sun of our lives and our treasure. We love it due to the fact that it is substantially and principally of the Lord’s institution. But we love it also as the Church, to which Jesus entrusted its celebration, has transmitted it to us down through the centuries by means of the various liturgical traditions. The prayers and rites developed through the centuries in order to explain and manifest before the eyes of the entire Church the unfathomable riches of the essential rite bequeathed by the Lord….
We cannot in any way forswear a heritage slowly built by the faith of our fathers, their burning devotion, and the theological reflection around the sacrament of the Passion of the Lord. In contact with the Mass of Saint Pius V—in which we also contemplate the purest masterpiece of Western Civilization, hierarchical as well as sacral—our souls lift up and our hearts expand, while our minds taste the most authentic Eucharistic doctrine. The psalmist’s warning is directed against the one who thinks that politics, statecraft, battle, diplomacy, etc., can rescue us from our existential woes and save our souls. They cannot. Only God’s grace, besought in prayer, can do that. But they can do a great deal of lesser work that is not opposed to the Kingdom of God, and sometimes even removes impediments to its expansion. What seems to be happening is one of the great political ironies of living memory. Trump, the unlikeliest major-party presidential candidate in history, was practically the only notable person who saw the depths of the unhappiness of half of America in 2016.

Despite the close and questionable election result, it was almost universally assumed by his more fervent detractors like Ms. Stoddard that he was a dreadful aberration who had gone and would not be back. The astounding irony is that, after six years of this colossal political donnybrook, Trump is the likely early favorite for the next election and the winner of this great single warrior combat.
The context for the Trump phenomenon is that after the halcyon Reagan-Bush Sr. years of great prosperity and the victorious and bloodless end of the Cold War, official contentment was so general that for only the second time in history, (after Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe, 1801-1825), there were three consecutive two-term presidents.
The White House and Congress changed hands at intervals, but the political class was the same and overwhelmingly liberal, and drifting steadily to the left. In the twenty years from early-Clinton to late-Obama, official policy moved roughly half way from the political center toward what was the far left in 1993 when Bill Clinton was inaugurated.
Only Donald Trump, the flamboyant land developer, golf club owner, and reality television star, who polled constantly, changed parties seven times in 13 years, and invented the technique of massively promoting his name as a celebrity brand and then translating it into the world’s highest elective office, detected a seismic erosion of public support for what had effectively become a bipartisan national unity government of gradual leftward policy movement.
Only he saw that tens of millions of working and lower middle class families considered that their jobs were being shipped overseas to cheap labor while the profits that accrued from that labor was not being repatriated to the United States.

In fact, it may be THE key aspect. This outcome has NOT vindicated the justice system, which should never have brought this case to trial. I am not convinced that it has served as a fortification of the 2ndAmendment either: the left is using it as a platform to advocate against that amendment. What is central to me is that this jury knew that they were being doxed; knew that the lawless lynch mob threatened to harm them and their families if they did not issue the “right” (unjust) verdict; knew that the corporate media was egging the mob on, contrary to the evidence; knew that most public officials on the left were doing the same; and knew that the prosecutors were brazenly lying directly contrary even to the evidence they presented and engaging in shockingly open misconduct. . Yet despite all this and the credible, personal threat to their own safety, this jury followed the evidence and the law anyway and found Rittenhouse not guilty. That was an act of intentional resistance – and open defiance of the maliciously false narrative so many institutions had mounted.I have to think that, at some point, the jury (from Kenosha County) had to contemplate that the mayor of Kenosha and the governor of Wisconsin, with media encouragement, willingly gave their city over to a violent mob, while this mere teenager tried to defend their hometown. Some on the jury may have even thought, with guilt, that they had not stood in the breach as this boy had. And now they were going to right the moral blight that had afflicted all who had abdicated their responsibility to protect ordinary people – and the malicious evil which led so many institutions to actually encourage the evil.Since the verdict, leftist officials and the corporate media have been shrieking like a brood of vampires confronted with an armada of crucifixes on a sea of Holy Water. Though they may not yet understand it consciously, they understand viscerally that this is a conscious rejection by ordinary people of them, all their works, and all their empty promises. Much of the corporate media, astonishingly, tried to make excuses for him, suggesting this was not an intentional act of terror, but just a tragic accident as he was running from police for a previous crime. Local law enforcement authorities publicly slapped that excuse down as a brazen lie before a full day had passed (notably quicker than public authorities normally publicly correct media lies). So, instead the leftist media tried to downplay the story and its coverage. After publicly showing their evil nature with their lies in the Rittenhouse trial, it was as if they couldn’t wait to confirm it with the way they covered Waukesha.As for leftist public officials, Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm is now in the hot seat for his efforts to reduce bail requirements almost to the vanishing point for violent felonssince he first took office. At the time of the horror, Brooks was out on $1,000 bail while two open serious felonies are pending against him, one in which he is accused of running over his victim with his car. He should not have been out in the first place. This as even lefties in San Francisco are waking up to how out of control crime can become when prosecutors focus on “criminal justice reform” instead of protecting innocent and honest people. Ordinary people are figuring out that continually releasing violent criminals with little bail is actually issuing blank death warrants for innocent people – whose names are filled in after the released criminal commits his next violent felony when he should not even be walking the streets. Not to worry, this method is taking me three steps forward and then only one or two steps back. But recovery must be measured week to week rather than day to day. In a Patrick Coffin Media interview transcribed by The Catholic Monitor, Catholic historian Edmund Mazza explains why Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation appears to be in “substantial error” and is therefore not a valid “papal resignation”:

There’s an outside possibility that he could be right, in which case his renunciation was valid. I could send that to you to maybe put in the show notes. But the fact of the matter is he could be in just error. You know just genuine sincere error; if that’s not the way the mechanics of the church, if that’s not a correct ecclesiology.
As I understand it, he kind of sees becoming pope as almost like… a second Episcopal consecration…he told Seewald, “If you think that you can just step down from the office, because of old age, that’s a functional misunderstanding.
That’s the functional misunderstanding. The munus enters into your very being. In fact, he has repeatedly said in interviews like the 2020 Seewald book, the latest Sewald interview with him, he insists that as Pope Emeritus, he has a spiritual ontological link to the diocese of Rome that can never be separated and done away with. But again, so he can be off about something without actually being a heretic. So I just want to be clear, I’m not casting aspersions, but that being said, he comes very close.
For example, in his again, Principles of Catholic Theology, he talks about how groundbreaking it was when Pope Paul VI met with the patriarch of Constantinople.
Listen to what Ratzinger has to say, “When Athenagorus embraced Paul VI, he used a formula from St. Ignatius of Antioch. When St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote to the bishop of Rome, in the early 2nd century, he talked about that See that presides in charity, Right? That presides in love. The word, I’ll just quote from Ratzinger. “It would be worth our while to consider whether this archaic confession of Ignatius, which has nothing to do with the primacy of jurisdiction, but confesses a primacy of honor and agape [charity].”
[Agape] Charity… “Might not be recognized as a formula that adequately reflects the position Rome occupies in the church.” I mean that’s going against Vatican I. Vatican I talked about the primacy of jurisdiction. And then he goes on to say. “Holy courage requires that prudence be combined with audacity. The kingdom of God suffers violence.”
Well, oddly enough, Ganswein in his characterization of what Benedict did on February 11th or February 28th, his last day on the job, he uses in his May, 2016 speech the same vocabulary to describe this expanded Petrine ministry. In fact, Ganswein analogizes what Benedict did to what God did with Mary’s Immaculate Conception.
Let me give you a quote from Ganswein. “It was fitting. God could do it, therefore he did it. In this case, so did Pope Benedict.” And then he goes on to say words and phrases like, “The papacy has been profoundly transformed. This was extraordinary courage, spectacular, unexpected, a new phase, a turning point, historic, never been a step like it, Unprecedented.” Just because the Pope resigned? Traditional nuns in Pennsylvania will ‘stand up and fight’ Vatican’s attack on contemplative life

FAIRFIELD, Pennsylvania (LifeSiteNews) — A community of traditional nuns have rejected Vatican instructions aimed at undermining their contemplative way of life.
Catherine Bauer, the official spokeswoman for the traditional Carmelite nuns of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, has given an interview to Catholic World Report explaining the situation of these nuns in the wake of a recent apostolic visitation that took place at the end of September. She described the changes being demanded by Rome since the publication of the Vatican’s 2018 instruction Cor Orans and made it clear that the Carmelite nuns at Fairfield and in Valparaiso, Nebraska “have chosen to stand up and fight.”
“We believe there are those in leadership in Rome who believe that contemplative orders don’t have a place in the Church any longer,” Bauer told Catholic World Report this month.
The Vatican instruction Cor Orans directs the individual contemplative orders that hitherto have been autonomous to join federations, thereby undercutting their individuality and their own charisms. The reform is to be done, according to this document, in light of the Second Vatican Council and “changed socio-cultural conditions.”
The Fairfield Carmelites include 25 nuns and receive about 100 inquiries per year. They have a hermit priest as their chaplain, Father Maximilian Mary Dean, who offers for them the traditional Latin Mass. They live a traditional Carmelite cloistered life with much austerity and many hours of prayer.
LifeSiteNews reporter Jim Hale interviewed Father Dean in October, and the hermit explained then that the September visitation aimed at undermining the charism of the traditional Carmelite nuns, essentially urging them to join larger associations, to open up their monastery to the outside world. Father Dean called this move, organized by Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, the head of the Congregation for Religious Life, a plan to “overhaul” contemplative orders. From his own experience with other tradition-minded orders such as the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, but also with the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration in Hanceville, Alabama (founded by Mother Angelica), he knows that these apostolic visitations are intended to undermine traditional ways of life in monasteries.
In her November 20 interview with Catholic World Report, Catherine Bauer explained how, under the new reform rules inspired by Cor Orans, the Carmelite nuns would lose their autonomy, their oversight of the formation of their novices, and their financial independence. “It gives officials in the Holy See access to the financial assets of the nuns and their properties,” she said. “It gives them the ability to take control of the monastery, evict the nuns, and then have financial control over the property.”

One of the defenders of this visitation and a critic of the Fairfield and Valparaiso nuns is Sister Gabriela of the Incarnation of the Carmelites in Flemington, New Jersey. As LifeSiteNews has reliably learned, she has been charged with rewriting the traditional 1990 Discalced Carmelite Constitutions to conform with Cor Orans. Without disclaiming her prominent role in the Bergoglian reform of the Carmelite contemplative orders, she is now posting numerous articles critical of the Farifield nuns, trying to show them to be irrational and disobedient. She posted some of these articles on the website Wherepeteris.com, which has dedicated itself to defending Pope Francis against any critic who opposes his revolutionary agenda.
As Miss Bauer stated, the official reason the visitation took place was related to the transfer of a group of Carmelite nuns from a Philadelphia convent in 2021. LifeSiteNews reported that the traditional Carmelites from the Fairfield/Valparaiso Carmelite houses saw themselves discouraged from assisting a group of aging Carmelites in Philadelphia after Archbishop Charles Chaput had left his position and his successor, Archbishop Nelson J. Perez, had taken over. The younger nuns met with obstacles and were not able to continue to live out their traditional charism with the traditional Mass in Philadelphia, and therefore they left.
Miss Bauer explained the situation as follows:

The Valparaiso Carmelites had been asked to re-found a Carmelite community in Philadelphia. There were three elderly nuns there, one of whom has since died and a second has entered a nursing home. Valparaiso agreed, and sent six nuns, with another three coming from Elysburg (now part of Fairfield) [the Elysburg nuns joined Fairfield]. In 2021, the nuns wanted to return to Valparaiso, as they believed the implementation of Cor Orans was interfering with their way of life. The nine nuns did return to Valparaiso, along with two aspirants who had joined the community. Due to the proximity of the Fairfield Carmelites, they received the apostolic visitation to determine what had happened in the Philadelphia convent.
But as it turned out, that apostolic visitation seemed to have other aims. States the spokeswoman of the Fairfield nuns: “But we believe an issue of greater importance to those visiting was to assess Fairfield’s observance of Cor Orans.”
Father Maximilian Dean published last month a comment which confirms these words of Miss Bauer. Regarding the September 25-29 visitation in Fairfield, he stated: “The co-visitators actually sent spies. They discussed the need to stop me from bringing the sacraments and to switch the nuns over to the Novus Ordo Mass; they discussed strategies for turning the benefactors away from these traditional communities.”
“I am not permitted to write here what they actually did during the visitation itself,” he continued, “but let’s just say that I was 100% correct in my assessment and that the nuns pulling from Philadelphia was used as a pretext by the Congregation to go after these traditional monasteries.”
Miss Bauer added that they know of 60 monasteries which are against the changes imposed upon them by Pope Francis’ reform plan of organizing the monasteries into associations and of increasing the influence of larger associations upon the spirituality of the individual monasteries.
“But the Fairfield Carmelites are the only ones willing to take a stand,” she expounded.
“I think the others believe that if they lay low, things will blow over. Since the Fairfield nuns received the apostolic visitation, however, it is their head on the chopping block. Our nuns have chosen to stand up and fight, even if they will be doing so alone.”
However, these traditional Carmelite nuns take this step of refusing to go along with Cor Orans with a heavy heart and not easily. Miss Bauer told the Catholic World Report:
The Fairfield nuns do not want to be in this position in which they are being forced to choose between their charism and the heart of the Church. They love the Magisterium, they love the Church and its history. They have no intention of being schismatic, nor do they want to disobey rules. They are Carmelites, and they are Catholic. But this is their Church, too, and they shouldn’t be forced to choose between 500 years of Carmelite history and being in the heart of the Church.
Bishop Athanasius Schneider, when visiting the United States in October of this year, gave several interviews in which the situation of the Fairfield nuns was discussed. He has made it clear that they should remain loyal to their traditional charism. The nuns, the prelate explained to LifeSiteNews in October, should continue to live their charism “with a ecclesiastical spirit, sentire cum Ecclesia [i.e., thinking with the Church], without revolt, without doing polemics, continuing to love and to pray for the pope and for the bishops evermore.”
Bishop Schneider explained that these nuns could say the following to Pope Francis: “Holy Father, we cannot here obey because this will harm Mother Church. Evidently, we cannot collaborate in harming such a great treasure of our holy Mother Church or of our cloistered charism which the Church blessed since Saint Theresa, [for] more than four centuries. We will deprive the Church [if we obey], we will harm the Church, and we cannot collaborate in harming the Church.”
On October 15, Schneider told Phil Lawler in another interview about the Fairfield situation that he sees how “the Holy See unfortunately tries to change their proper charism to be cloistered – so not to go out of the cloister – and so the pope mandated, Pope Francis with his document, the Vatican document on cloistered nuns [Cor Orans], to force them to join so-called federations with the compulsory participation in periodical meetings, information sessions outside the cloister in different places, so that the sisters have to travel and then periodically to go out from the cloister. And so this is a destruction, really, of the precious gift of God for the strict cloistered life.”
“I think the sisters have to resist,” he added, saying that because “it is against entire tradition of the Church” and a “destruction of the cloistered life,” the sisters “cannot obey, even it comes from Rome.”
Cardinal Gerhard Müller, who recently visited the United States, also commented on the situation of the contemplative orders and the call from Rome to reform them.
“The danger that I see is this, that in the Congregation for the Religious Life, there are people who have no understanding [of] the vita contemplativa,” who think that the contemplative life “has no practical sense,” Cardinal Müller told LifeSiteNews in October.
“But the sense [purpose] of our human, Christian existence is the adoration of God without our own interests.”
There exists between man and God a “communion of love” and, therefore, according to Müller, “all the tradition of the Church respected not only the active life, but also the contemplation,” the “two wings of the religious life.”
“[It makes] no sense to destroy [it], to suppress [it],” the cardinal stated.
“No Pope has the right to define the ecclesiastical life of this discipline once and forever,” he added.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò had already denounced these visitations and reform plans for the contemplative orders on October 1, not long after the apostolic visitation had taken place in Fairfield, Pennsylvania. He talked about “a hatred and an iconoclastic fury towards the Communities of Contemplative Life, and in a particular way against those tied to Tradition and the Ancient Rite” that is nowadays to be found in the Vatican. In no uncertain terms, the Italian prelate rejected the Bergoglian reform plan when he wrote: “I consider it my precise duty as a Pastor to denounce in no uncertain terms the systematic work of demolition being carried out by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, whose leaders make no secret of their aversion to any form of consecrated life.”
Different sources, with whom LifeSiteNews discussed this situation in Fairfield, some of whom are priests and lawyers, think that the Carmelite nuns who wish to maintain their traditional charism should accept that their cloisters will be dissolved by the Vatican and subsequently continue to live and pray together in their traditional charism as a private lay association. One source referenced as an example a group of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate in Italy who have done exactly that.
Liz Yore, a lawyer and adviser to the Coalition of Canceled Priests commented to LifeSite as follows: “As someone who is intimately familiar with the apostolic visitation at Fairfield, I would urge the sisters to remain firm and resolute in their Carmelite charism. These contrived Vatican directed visitations threaten the very foundation of Carmelite cloistered spirituality. These holy women need the fierce protection and ongoing support of Catholic laity in the face of a coordinated onslaught by this papacy to undermine, secularize, and monetize this cloistered order.”

It is undoubtedly true that the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was a victory over dishonest and overreaching prosecutors, over a largely dishonest national press, and over the same elements that produced mob rule in Kenosha in the summer of 2020.
The jurors, in their questions and their diligence, clearly overcame the immense media bias against Mr. Rittenhouse, and the intermittent chanting and howling by mobs outside the courthouse of often rather explicit threats against the jurors if they did not convict. The case was widely misrepresented as a trial of white-supremacist vigilantism intruding into Wisconsin from outside to aggravate the oppression of blacks in Kenosha.
The jurors deduced that the defendant was invited to Kenosha by his family, had been asked to help defend an automobile dealership in the event of violence, was a legal carrier of the specific weapon that he owned, which was legally in the home of relatives in Kenosha.
The initial portrayal of the case, including by then-candidate Joe Biden, of white supremacist violence, was exposed as defamatory fiction, and even the prosecution witnesses powerfully contributed to the perception that Mr. Rittenhouse, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, had acted in self-defense.
It emerged that he was a well-motivated and presentable young man, a good kid, and in no way a troublemaker or a bigot, contrary to what was instantly claimed by most of the media, all the way up to and through the trial.
The judge, too, deserves credit for criticizing the prosecution when it attempted to construe the defendant’s previous silence as an acknowledgment of guilt, in plain contravention of approximately 50 years of overwhelming constitutional interpretation, and for the prosecution’s attempt to hold that shooting someone had no legal character of self-defense if the gunshot victim was himself not armed.
The footage of the defendant being kicked in the face by one of those he shot, bashed over the head with the skateboard by another, and responding in the third case to having a gun pointed at his face at point-blank range, were all of great assistance to the defense.
Yet as the facts unfolded, and the lies of the press and political lynch mob that had attempted to try and convict young Mr. Rittenhouse for the last 15 months before the matter could get to court were exposed, there was no accommodation of the sharply evolving picture of what had actually occurred in Kenosha on August 25, 2020.
Not only did the defendant’s good character and background come to light; the fact that the two deceased and the other complainant party were all rioters and to some extent vandals and bullies, did not visibly shake the prosecution in its determination to proceed with four counts of actual or attempted homicide, plus a related lesser count.
Despite the profoundly contemptible, morally bankrupt efforts of CNN, MSNBC, the traditional networks, and much of the written press to portray the verdict as a travesty of justice and a triumph of bigotry, it was a sensible and courageous judgment on the adduced evidence. It was clear to anyone who watched the proceedings that Kyle Rittenhouse had a legitimate self-defense answer to the charges and is not a bad or nastily intended young man.
In all of this, the trial in Kenosha was indeed a vindication of the American criminal legal system. Unfortunately, though, many of the media celebrants have taken it as a legitimate occasion to praise the American criminal justice system and to claim that it has been entirely upheld by virtue of this one successful case, and even to pronounce it the best criminal justice system in the world.
If any such conclusion is the principal consequence of the Rittenhouse trial, it would be a disaster on a scale considerably exceeding the proportions of the individual victory for equitable justice that it was.
Because of the confluence of a competent and determined judge, courageous and diligent jurors, ludicrously incompetent and dishonest prosecutors, and enough intelligent media attention to counter the 15 months of biased reporting that could easily poison the jury pool, justice was clearly done, to the peals of horror of the Americophobic riffraff that infects most of America’s media. It would be a tragedy if this exemplary outcome were to whitewash what is in large measure an evil justice system.
American federal prosecutors get a conviction on 98% of their cases, 95% of those without a trial, such is the hideous abuse of the plea-bargaining system. As that system functions, prosecutors can and frequently do summon a number of witnesses to whatever conduct they claim is objectionable and tell those witnesses that unless they are able to recall evidence valuable to the prosecutors, with an absolute guarantee against prosecution for perjury, they are clearly participating in a conspiracy to obstruct justice and will themselves be indicted.
With this heavy-handed encouragement, such a mountain of effectively incontrovertible evidence piles up on top of designated defendants, that they are advised that they have no chance and get a minor level of leniency for simply folding and pleading guilty, regardless of the real facts. This is why 95% of these cases don’t go to trial.
Again and again, we have seen cases where prosecutory abuse generated unjust outcomes including outcomes the prosecutors knew to be unjust: The case against Senator Stevens, the Duke University lacrosse team prosecution, and the John Thompson case where a man spent 14 years on death row for a crime prosecutors knew he did not commit.
These are all examples of outright prosecutorial dishonesty. Yet there are thousands of cases in which false evidence was extorted or suborned and convictions unjustly obtained. This is why the United States has six to 12 times as many incarcerated persons per capita as those countries most comparable to it: the large prosperous democracies of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Senior American judicial figures and eminent attorneys regularly inveigh against this lopsided system that has produced the shameful anomaly that the United States has five percent of the world’s population and more than 25% of its incarcerated persons.
It is precisely the kind of lawlessness demonstrated by Kyle Rittenhouse’s prosecutors when they attempted to poison the well against the defendant by misrepresenting both the constitutional right to silence and to self-defense that leads to these disgraceful figures.
In Canada the prosecution succeeds 61% of the time and in Britain a little over 50%. This is because cases can only be brought in those countries when approved by judges in preliminary hearings rather than by American grand juries rubber-stamping whatever they’re told by prosecutors; and because prosecutors would be disbarred for attempting to impose anything like the plea-bargaining system in the United States, and because as in other civilized countries except the United States, the defense speaks to the jury last, a

By Charlie JohnstonAfter reading tons of commentary on the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict last week, there is a central aspect that has been largely uncommented on. In fact, it may be THE key aspect. This outcome has NOT vindicated the justice system, which should never have brought this case to trial. I am not convinced that it has served as a fortification of the 2ndAmendment either: the left is using it as a platform to advocate against that amendment. What is central to me is that this jury knew that they were being doxed; knew that the lawless lynch mob threatened to harm them and their families if they did not issue the “right” (unjust) verdict; knew that the corporate media was egging the mob on, contrary to the evidence; knew that most public officials on the left were doing the same; and knew that the prosecutors were brazenly lying directly contrary even to the evidence they presented and engaging in shockingly open misconduct. . Yet despite all this and the credible, personal threat to their own safety, this jury followed the evidence and the law anyway and found Rittenhouse not guilty. That was an act of intentional resistance – and open defiance of the maliciously false narrative so many institutions had mounted.I have to think that, at some point, the jury (from Kenosha County) had to contemplate that the mayor of Kenosha and the governor of Wisconsin, with media encouragement, willingly gave their city over to a violent mob, while this mere teenager tried to defend their hometown. Some on the jury may have even thought, with guilt, that they had not stood in the breach as this boy had. And now they were going to right the moral blight that had afflicted all who had abdicated their responsibility to protect ordinary people – and the malicious evil which led so many institutions to actually encourage the evil.Since the verdict, leftist officials and the corporate media have been shrieking like a brood of vampires confronted with an armada of crucifixes on a sea of Holy Water. Though they may not yet understand it consciously, they understand viscerally that this is a conscious rejection by ordinary people of them, all their works, and all their empty promises. If they cannot check this rebellion, their influence and power is near its end. For the left, including the corporate media, this heralds a genuinely existential crisis.This crisis was compounded for them by the horrific assault in Waukesha less than a week later when Darrell Brooks, a white-hating black supremacist (at least by his social media history) allegedly plowed through a Christmas parade with his SUV, killing at least six and wounding at least 40. (I say allegedly for legal reasons – the video record speaks for itself). Much of the corporate media, astonishingly, tried to make excuses for him, suggesting this was not an intentional act of terror, but just a tragic accident as he was running from police for a previous crime. Local law enforcement authorities publicly slapped that excuse down as a brazen lie before a full day had passed (notably quicker than public authorities normally publicly correct media lies).
