MUSCLE AND OBEDIENCE WOULD LIKELY COME FROM CATHOLIC LAITY, NOT FROM ITS ORDAINED MINISTERS

!!!!

Addendum to my previous comment: Two Sundays ago, all Catholic priests were required by their bishops and/or the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops)to read a letter which was agreed upon by the USCCB. While the aforementioned letter was rather “weak” compared to what it could have been, the letter nonetheless denounced B.O.’s desire to insert anti Christian legislation into medical insurance which Catholic Employers and Entities would give to their employees. The letter which the USCCB agreed upon for public proclamation promotes religious liberty and denounces B.O.’s attack against religious liberty. The majority of priests I have talked to said they would not read that letter, as required by either their bishop or the USCCB. I asked several lay people if this letter was read by their priests at Mass or after Mass in the last two weekends, and most of these lay people answered that “no, the letter was not read.” With this kind of disobedience and cowardice by many in America’s Catholic presbyterate, would an encyclical from the Pope, denouncing the inherent evils which are about to be promoted in American legislation, be of much value? I think it could and would be of great help, but the muscle and obedience would likely come from the Catholic laity, and not the ordained ministers. This is my sad opinion,
