TO THE SECULAR AND LIBERAL MIND, RELIGION APPEARS AS A KIND OF IRRATIONALITY, A KIND OF MADNESS

!!!!

A very insightful piece by Father Rutler [SOME HAVE MORTGAGED MOTHER CHURCH TO THE NANNY STATE IN TODAY’S ENTITLEMENT CULTURE]. What is scary is that when faith disappears, it doesn’t leave a vacuum. Something immediately comes in to fill up the empty space That “something” has historically been psychology and not just psychology, but psychology-without a soul. Think: Soviet Union.

To the secular mind, religion appears as a kind of irrationality, a kind of madness. That is why President Obama wants sees “freedom of religion” as “merely” freedom to worship. To the secular mind, religion is first a harmless illusion, then a disturbing delusion, and finally a dangerous delusion that threatens the “common good.” One should not forget the use to which the Soviet Union made of the profession of psychiatry. It was so easy for psychiatry to slip into the place previously occupied by religion and serve the dominant views of cultural Marxism. Psychiatry and the dominant power structure. There is often a fearful symbiosis between the two.

If, or should I say, as radical secularism becomes the overwhelmingly dominant view of American society, I think Roman Catholics and all Christians should prepare for the “psychiatrization” of religious phenomena and the view that religion is a form of dangerous mental illness. Why should secularism follow a new path when the Soviets have blazed the trail? Don’t many in the far left already hint as such things? A little barb here. A caustic remark there. How long will this hatred of religion remain content to whisper or speak off mic in asides?

Dotted lines are already being drawn by the media. Terrorism…fundamentalist Islam…fundamentalism…fundamentalist Christianity…Christianity…terrorism. Lots of incorrect syllogisms are being generated. War . . . war on women . . . misogyny . . . Catholicism…war on women… war … violence. Right now it is the condescending . . . those poor unwell Catholic fundamentalists. How long before it is that “dangerous deranged Catholic ‘ideology.'” or “those dangerous Catholics”?
