A MODEST PROPOSAL FROM ONE OF MY LONG-TIME READERS; HE WANTS MY OPINION

My wife has long complained that when I go to confession I don’t spend enough time in the confessional.  She believes she has a better memory for my faults.

I approached the assistant pastor in my parish (one of nature’s gentlemen), and discussed her idea of wives telling the priest the sins of their husbands.

Also, the logistics of priests’ having to bring their lunches into the confessional, and maybe even a razor and shaving cream.

But I think it fails on the grounds of occupational health and safety.  The Bishops would be concerned about a lack of vitamin D among their priests caused by lack of exposure to the sun.

  1. Your Excellency, this Old Curmudgeon thinks you have a great sense of humour, and I agree with the gentleman who submitted the question. I live in a small, poor, rural Parish and my Pastor has a full time job at the Chancery, as well as two Parishes. I have a feeling our Bishop would not be happy if my Cuter and Shorter Half was in the box confessing my sins after 35 years of marriage!

    Donna,
The mere fact that I posted this should give you a clue as to my opinion.

  3. Donna Hypolita says:

But, Bishop, you haven’t given us your opinion!

  4. Mary Anne says:

Well, I guess I don’t think she should say anything. I was glad whenever my husband went to confession. Period. There’s no more you can do except maybe leave an examination of conscience near him sometime and pray. God Bless you. It’s hard to worry like that.

  5. Terri Bradley says:

LOL…this was too funny!!!! BTW, I am always to the point, confess my sins and wait for the response from the Priest. We have been told time and again not to use the Confessional for Spiritual Direction. It is sometimes HE who not only wants to give a little necessary and very NEEDED direction, but then sometimes has a funny story or two and it’s ME that gets nervous knowing theirs a line outside waiting!! I really LOVE my priests but sometimes some priests need to save it for ‘Coffee and Donut Hour’ after Mass:) Regardless, they are precious in my sight and are indescribably precious in the Lord God’s sight!!!

  6. Funny, but we’re not all like that! 😄 Our priests always say to make it short and to the point, anyway.
    God bless
