Potter’s final appearance in the film occurs later that evening. George, deliriously happy on his way home, shouts “Merry Christmas” to Potter through his office window. Potter responds, “Happy New Year to you – in jail!” Little does Potter know that George, on the verge of suicide and wishing he had never been born, had just been shown a vision by his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody, of what the town would have been like had George never existed. In this alternate reality, the Building & Loan has long since closed, and the town has become a sleazy, amoral place named “Pottersville”. The Epoch Times reported that Venezuelan leftist Hugo Chávez used massive voter fraud to become “a new kind of dictator” according to a “former CIA official and his team [who] found through their investigation that Chávez started to focus on [Smartmatic] voting machines to ensure victory as early as 2003, when over 20 percent of Venezuelans signed a recall referendum to remove him from his president position”:

It’s unconventional warfare. It is basically a 9/11 attack of the electoral system,” said the former CIA official who is an expert in Latin American politics and counterterrorism.

His big concern is that compromised voting systems controlled by corrupt transnational organizations will destroy the rule of law and democracies that protects people’s freedom and rights.

Venezuela

Hugo Chávez, a controversial politician, served as president of Venezuela from 1999 to 2013, later dying from cancer at the age of 58.

In the 15 years before his death, Chávez won four presidential elections in 1998, 2000, 2006, and 2012, and won at least three referendums in 1999, 2000, and 2004.

But in the past decade, the authenticity of his wins in all these elections was questioned by his opponents and the free world, but no allegations were verified by a judicial system.

The former CIA official and his team found through their investigation that Chávez started to focus on voting machines to ensure victory as early as 2003, when over 20 percent of Venezuelans signed a recall referendum to remove him from his president position.

“He [Chávez] started talking to a company called Indra, a Spanish company which [ran] elections [in Venezuela at that time,]” he said.

After figuring out Indra’s voting machines couldn’t be manipulated, Chávez contacted Smartmatic, a voting machine supplier that was first founded by three Venezuelans—Antonio M. Mugica, Roger Piñate, and Alfredo Anzola—in Venezuela in 1997 and then registered in Delaware in April 2000.

“There was a bidding for the referendum election [in 2003]. Indra got disqualified and Smartmatic won that. So in the 2004 recall referendum, Smartmatic was taking care of [the counting],” he said.

In his eyes, history repeated itself in the U.S. great election of 2020.

In June 2004, Smartmatic participated in a Venezuelan recall referendum. “At midnight of the election, the machines were counting. At 3:00 a.m., Chávez suddenly won by ten percent. Before 3:00 a.m., the result was opposite,” he said.

After that, Chávez didn’t lose any election no matter how much opposition he faced in Venezuela.

“So basically, it is a new kind of dictator. In Caracas [capital of Venezuela], they had to start trying to exercise totalitarian power,” he concluded.

Yesterday, the National Pulse reported that “Mark Malloch-Brown, the chairman of the voting company Smartmatic… [s]peaking on behalf of Smartmatic…  admitted in 2010 that ‘part of our technology is licensed from Dominion. ‘”

Coincidentally, Maria Esperanza de Bianchini of Venezuela who “has been dubbed the female Padre Pio and is a candidate for sainthood” died one year after “Chávez started to focus on [Smartmatic] voting machines to ensure victory.” Esperanza de Bianchini “made a prophecy saying, ‘It will start here.’ This she said in her native Venezuela which at that time was a prosperous country”:

The main reason for creating the Code was the nauseating Nazis performing medical experiments on objects without their consent. These procedures, usually performed under the direction of high-ranking officials such as Dr. Josef Mengele, were some of the worst and most abnormal procedures ever documented. Since then, full and proactive ongoing consent to any medical procedure is required by law in Western countries that recognize the Nuremberg Laws. Justice Thomas’s Moment Arrives, as Supreme Court Reviews

Abortion Rights

It’s time to retire Charles Baudelaire’s famous aphorism that “the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was to convince you he doesn’t exist.”

A century and more after the destruction of European Christian civilization during World War I, the world has had ample opportunity to admire his handiwork, from the killing fields of Flanders to the killing fields of Cambodia. If God seeks souls, Satan requires corpses to slake his animus against humanity, and he’s certainly harvested plenty of them, right in plain sight.

He’s still harvesting them, of course, only this time the butcher’s toll is less visible. But with arguments before the Supreme Court this week regarding the progressives’ favorite diabolical sacrament, abortion, we may finally come to realize that the Devil’s greatest trick was convincing the women of the post-Christian West to murder their own unborn children.

The decision will be announced at some point in the current term, most likely in June, when the court goes in the summer recess.

The case is Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which will decide the constitutionality of a 2018 Mississippi law that bans abortion after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy. Lower courts have thus far blocked the law on the grounds that it violates the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, the worst Court ruling since Dred Scott in 1857.

This case would not necessarily lead to the abolition of Roe but would be an important first step in rolling the issue back to the states and recognizing that the Constitution does not in fact have anything to say about abortion.

Even if Roe were overturned tomorrow, abortion would still be legal for a time in all 50 states. But at least then the issue would be restored to the legislative, not the judicial, process, and the residents of the several states would once again be free to choose, so to speak.

According to one pro-abortion group, the Guttmacher Institute, it’s likely that 26 states would reimpose either severe restrictions or outright bans. This possibility has the Left’s hair on fire.

That the democratic process is not free to do so is due to the fact that the Warren Burger court overstepped its authority in Roe by a vote of 7–2, finding an implied “right of privacy” in the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment—a Reconstruction-era law regarding citizenship for the newly freed slaves that had nothing to do with “reproductive rights.”

The evil that this court did has continued to live on and flourish in Griswold v. Connecticut (1965), in which liberal Justice William O. Douglas further explored sexual privacy rights (the only kind of liberty the Left actually cares about) in a case involving contraception, conjuring them up out of the thin air of “penumbras, formed by emanations” from imaginary “guarantees” in the Bill of Rights.

What makes Dobbs so threatening is that this could be the first time the Court has banned abortion before fetal viability outside the womb, which means that the Baal worshippers  among the secular atheists who have made Roe a hill to die on rightly see it as the slippery slope that, having made abortion a national right, could eventually lead to the end of legalized abortion on the national level.

Even worse from their point of view is that this is the case that Justice Clarence Thomas, now the Court’s senior justice, has been waiting for since he was appointed in 1991. Thomas, the liberals’ bête noire, has long been an outspoken opponent of Roe: “Our abortion precedents are grievously wrong and should be overruled,” he wrote in a dissent in a different case just last year. “The Constitution does not constrain the States’ ability to regulate or even prohibit abortion.”

Further, Thomas is no fan of stare decisis, the absurd notion that once the Court has decided something, however incorrectly, that precedent should heavily influence later cases. Were that true, Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), which upheld state-imposed segregation, would still be on the books.  Instead, it was overturned by the court in 1954 by Brown v. Board of Education.

“In my view, if the Court encounters a decision that is demonstrably erroneous — i.e., one that is not a permissible interpretation of the text—the Court should correct the error, regardless of whether other factors support overruling the precedent,” wrote Thomas in Gamble v. United States¸ a double-jeopardy case.

With the Court now at least nominally split 6–3 in favor of conservatives, the chances that the Mississippi law will be upheld look good. Another abortion case, this one involving Texas’s SB 8, which blocks abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, has already been argued and awaits decision, although the issue there has to do with its novel enforcement mechanism.

Whatever happens in this round of legal challenges, the larger practical and moral issues remain. Previous societies that have made a fetish out of sacrificing their children—the Carthaginians and the Canaanites come to mind—have wound up on the ash heap of history.

In their Punic Wars with republican Rome, the Carthaginians were forced to outsource their military to mercenaries and allies, owing to their chronic shortage of manpower. At the Carthaginians’ conclusion, Rome was master of the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, the Canaanites’ devotion to Moloch didn’t help them when Yahweh offered their land to the Hebrews fleeing slavery in Egypt.

Across the West, birth rates have collapsed, forcing a reliance on often-hostile immigration to maintain secular welfare states—which in any case won’t long outlast the cultures that invented them.

Morally, you don’t have to be either a believing Christian or an observant Jew to understand that proscriptions against the slaughter of innocents go back thousands of years. No previous society has adopted selective abortion as an absolute moral good, as American and European “progressives” have, and only a culture bent on murder-suicide would even consider it.

Meanwhile, how hollow does the “feminist” mantra “My body, my choice” now ring as governments everywhere demand that their populations willingly submit to not only having their bodily autonomy violated, but their very cellular essence altered. And not just once, but repeatedly as bureaucrats run amok over “booster shots” and “variants”?

But the left, which depends on narrowly decided court decisions to get what it can’t achieve through the democratic process, will fight this to the end, no matter how many unborn children must be scissored, stabbed, and suctioned to death. Baby murder is their raison d’être, their badge of honor. It’s what they do. It’s who they are.

This is Justice Thomas’s moment. And ours.

He is speaking of a “globalist totalitarianism,” undermining our democracies.

Dr. Malone clearly rejected the idea or universal vaccination – calling it “insane” – and showed much sympathy for the Austrian people as well as the Germans: “So those people and also the Australians,” he told LifeSite on November 27, “are facing an intolerable situation where their governments are literally, in my opinion, have gone mad.”

Catholic activist Alexander Tschugguel has been calling for international help in his home country of Austria, with the impending vaccine mandates that are to start in the first months of 2022. He made it clear in a recent LifeSite interview that he will resist the COVID tyranny in Austria, and in a November 30 statement Kazakh Bishop Athanasius Schneider strongly encouraged Austrians to resist these unjust measures that are being implemented now.

There are many reasons for resisting, for example, the vaccine mandate.

Speaking about vaccine mandates, Dr. Malone stated that he believes in the “fundamental principle, in the logic, that people have freedom to choose and particularly over their own body in medical procedures,” and in this case, we are dealing with the question of “mandating individuals receiving a medical intervention with an unlicensed medical product that they may or may not wish to accept.”

Along with virologist Dr. Geert Vanden Bossche, Dr. Malone fears that universal vaccination would promote the increase of vaccine resistant mutations of the corona virus. “My impression is with the Delta variant and now the Omicron variant that we are seeing evidence that’s consistent (…) We’re seeing data that are consistent with the hypotheses of Geert Vanden Bossche and others.” “It does appear,” Dr. Malone expounded, “that the pattern of mutations [such as with the Delta and Omicron variant] that we’re observing are entirely consistent with what Geert has predicted.”

In light of the current Austrian vaccine mandate, Dr. Malone also expressed concern about the possibility that these vaccines actually might enhance disease. “And the worry is that as you know, the worry, the chronic worry that many of us have had that think about these things and try to look carefully at the data and are aware of the prior data in coronavirus vaccine development in humans [that] has repeatedly encountered the problem of vaccine enhanced disease,” he stated, and wondered whether certain data are “an initial indicator of some deeper phenomena having to do with vaccine enhanced injury?”

Also, the other measures of the Austrian (and German) governments did not find Dr. Malone’s approval.

Asked by LifeSite about the mask mandates and whether they are efficient and helpful in fighting the coronavirus, the virologist answered that “there’s a number of papers that look at the effectiveness of masks.” Those studies, he continued, “show that the effectiveness of the masks that we’re using in general in the population at best is about 10 percent in terms of reducing the spread. And that’s consistent with what the CDC had in their calculations.”

Dr. Malone also stressed that there are many negative side effects of using masks. He explained that while wearing masks, “we have additional bacterial flora, and potentially viral, that we are repeatedly re-breathing. So it’s not just the effects on CO2 levels and those kinds of things. There’s also some infectious components to it.” Next to the health aspect, there is, in Dr. Malone’s eyes, also a psychological one, especially for children. “As you know,” he added, “children need to see faces. And this, the use of the mask, particularly in the context of schools – children interacting with other children – is really counterproductive.”

The immunologist also rejected the idea of lockdowns. Dr. Malone made it clear that the virus cannot be stopped by the lockdowns, that they are little effective but cause much harm:

“There are multiple reports out now and deep studies, economic studies, comprehensive studies that show that the overall impact of lockdowns is not to reduce deaths,” he said. “In many cases, you can show an increase in death that – whether or not it’s due to the virus itself – there’s a number of other things that these lockdowns impact on, including mental health of people. So suicide rates go up. People aren’t being fed as well.”

The overall impact in multiple assessments of the lockdowns, according to Dr. Malone, “is damaging. It’s worse than if they never impose that at all, in terms of the economy, people’s employment, people’s mental health, the rate of suicide.”

Dr. Malone added that many people also do not get their illnesses “detected as easily,” since they stay at home. There is a “whole cascade of other things.” “It’s this overly simplistic thought that with this simple intervention, we can have a beneficial effect on the spread of the virus. As you know, the truth is the virus will move through the population,” he concluded.

These policies are “kind of mindless,” Dr. Malone said, adding, “we have an epidemic of a virus. We have an epidemic of irrational fear and we have an epidemic of poor public policy. And I think that, unfortunately, the Austrian people are about to be getting a lesson in this. And I guess perhaps the German people, too.”

LifeSite asked Dr. Malone to comment on a recent statement by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Soeder, according to whom one can only can get rid of the coronavirus by mandatory vaccination. “Only vaccination can free us from the continuous loop of the coronavirus,” he said November 26.

“I would respond,” Dr. Malone answered, “that it’s grossly naive. How many times do we have to say: these vaccines are poorly effective at preventing infection, replication and spread? They are partially protective against disease. Natural immunity is significantly more protective against disease.”

He bemoaned the “logic” that is “driving so many of us to distraction: It’s not based in science.” And if it’s so obviously not based in science, Dr. Malone added, then what is driving this policy?

The physician explained that one of the reasons might be “that the leadership in the European Union and throughout the West, including the United States, has been captured functionally by the economic interests of some financial entity, of which the pharmaceutical industry is a component.”

Further describing the power of international financial groups that seems to be able to influence the world’s common response to the current corona crisis – to include the “insane push for universal vaccination” – Dr. Malone said:

“I’ve become convinced that we do have a situation that is essentially the growth and expansion of global tyranny that is harmonized, that is managed, that is aligned across nation states, and it appears to be aligned with the economic interests of a small cluster of investment funds that represents the bulk of global western capital,” he said. “And what I’m particularly alarmed about – me and many others, and apparently also the archbishop [Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò] – is that this pool of capital is so large now that it has more power than individual nation states do.” This capital has become so powerful that “it can dictate policy, economic policy and national policy in different nation states. And that capital has acquired all of the main media, all of the Big Tech and all of the major vaccine and pharmaceutical companies. And it’s all this is why it’s acting globally in an integrated fashion.”

It is because of this concern that Dr. Malone then explicitly endorsed Archbishop Viganò’s recent November 18 call for an anti-globalist alliance.

The First Phase of Lefebvre’s Life (1929-1958). Ordained a Priest in 1929 at the age of 23 to preparing for the Second Vatican Council in 1959. The Shining Catholic Missionary who helped grow the Roman Catholic Church in Africa.

In blood, sweat, tears and toil, Archbishop Lefebvre labored for decades, ministering to hundreds of thousands of Catholics, and spreading the missionary work to save souls. Together with Venerable American Archbishop Fulton Sheen, he was one of the greatest Catholic evangelists of the 20th century. His zeal was admired by Pope Pius XII, who elevated him to Vicar Apostolic, overseeing some 50,000 Catholics throughout Africa. His missionary efforts have borne the greatest fruits. The Church in Africa today is an amazing success story. As Aleteia notes, and in a completely incredible and unexpected way, there are now more Christians in Africa than in Europe and even Latin America.  According to John Allen, “Africa in the twentieth century went from a Catholic population of 1.9 million in 1900 to 130 million in 2000, a growth rate of 6,708 percent, the most rapid expansion of Catholicism in a single continent in two thousand years of church history.”^[1]We cannot forget the great African Cardinals who have greatly blessed and enriched the Universal Church: doctrinal and liturgical traditionalist Cardinal Sarah with friends of Tradition like Cardinal Arinze, a supporter of complete rights and full freedom for the Missa Tridentina. God Bless Africa, and may the good Priests, Nuns, Bishops and Cardinals of Africa, along with Lay Catholic Evangelists – vocations are now quite numerous in the continent – continue to bless the Universal Church.

The Second Phase of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre’s Life (1959-1988) Thirty Glorious Years of Fidelity to Catholic Tradition, and staunch Anti-Communist Catholic Action, amidst opposition and persecution. Catholic Champion of the Rights of Jesus Christ Our King, the Treasure of Tradition, Mary Immaculate as Mediatrix of All Graces, the Fifth Marian Dogma, and a heroic example of nearly blameless and flawless Catholic Devotion to Jesus and Mary before all.

Already in 1966, Archbishop Lefebvre sounded the prophetic warning, with the greatest love and devotion toward the Magisterial Authorities, that a Great Crisis for Christendom was beginning. Do we not recognize, 55 years later, these warnings as absolutely and incredibly prophetic?

The Church’s destruction is proceeding apace. Through an exaggerated authority granted to Episcopal conferences, the Sovereign Pontiff has rendered himself impotent. In a single year, how many painful examples! And yet, the Successor of Peter and he alone can save the Church.

Let the Holy Father surround himself with vigorous defenders of the Faith, let him appoint them to significant dioceses. Let him deign to proclaim the truth in weighty documents, let him hunt down error without fear of opposition, without fear of schism, without fear of casting doubt upon the pastoral dispositions of the Council.

May the Holy Father deign to encourage the bishops to set faith and morals aright individually, as befits any good shepherd; to support courageous bishops, to incite them to reform their seminaries, to reestablish studies according to St. Thomas in them; to encourage superiors general to maintain in their novitiates and communities the fundamental principles of all Christian asceticism, especially obedience; to encourage the development of Catholic schools, of a doctrinally healthy press, of associations of Christian families; at last also to repress those who instigate error and to reduce them to silence. Wednesday allocutions cannot take the place of encyclicals, of commands, of letters to bishops.

Doubtless I am rather bold to express myself in this manner! But it is with ardent love that I write these lines, love of the glory of God, love of Jesus, love of Mary, of her Church, of the Successor of Peter, bishop of Rome, vicar of Jesus Christ.

No wonder Cardinal Oddi said the drama with Archbishop Lefebvre is that he has “too much Faith.” He understood well the treasure of our faith, and thus the treasure of our Tradition.Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Cardinal Oddi’s words show the Roman Church regards Archbishop Lefebvre as one of Her faithful sons, though he made a few mistakes.

We cannot forget two of perhaps the greatest and strongest traditional Catholic bishops in the Church today, Bishop Athanasius Schneider and Bishop Carlo Maria Vigano, have had words of appreciation, esteem and praise for Archbishop Lefebvre and the Society of St. Pius X.

The Third Phase of Archbishop Lefebvre’s Life (1988-1991): Consecration of Bishops, a few mistakes (everybody is allowed some), and difficulties with Rome under Pope St. John Paul II.

Here, in this third phase of his life, Archbishop Lefebvre was slightly confused by the schismatic sedevacantists. Although he had justly expelled them from his Society in 1983, for the great troubles they caused him, and had clearly taught: “It is very important that there should always be the bond with Rome if we wish to remain Catholic; even if we do not agree with everything being done in Rome, I think the bond is absolutely indispensable.” Now he himself began to be confused by their schismatic claims about Pope St. John Paul II. If only he had given as much attention to many of his priests who were Indult Traditionalists, who later founded St. Peter’s Fraternity. These priests loved and appreciated Pope St. John Paul II, for his own heroic efforts to defeat Communism in the USSR, and fight abortion everywhere in the world, together with travelling to visit the whole world, including India, my own country, to promote the Gospel, the Church, and Catholic Evangelism. Indeed, in the early years, Archbishop Lefebvre had the highest appreciation and esteem for Pope St. John Paul II and believed His Holiness was going to help save the Church from the post Vatican-II Crisis in the Church.

For example, in 1978, Archbishop Lefebvre wrote to him:

Holy Father, There is no doubt that the audience you granted me was willed by God. For me it was a great comfort to be able quite freely to explain the circumstances and the grounds for the existence of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X and of its seminaries, and the reasons which led me to continue the Work in spite of the decisions by Fribourg and Rome. It is plain to any impartial observer that our Work is a nursery of priests of the sort the Church has always desired and the true faithful want. We are justified in thinking that if the Church would admit the fact and give it the legality to which it is entitled vocations would be even more plentiful.

Holy Father, for the honor of Jesus Christ, for the good of the Church, for the salvation of souls, we beg you to say a single word as Successor of Peter and Pastor of the Universal Church to the bishops of the whole world: ‘Let them carry on – We authorize the free use of what multisecular Tradition has used for the sanctification of souls.’

What difficulty is there in such an attitude? None. The bishops would decide the places and the times reserved for that Tradition. Unity would be discovered again at once at the level of the bishop of the place. On the other hand, what advantages for the Church: the renewal of seminaries and monasteries, great fervor in the parishes. The bishops would be stupefied to find in a few years an outburst of devotion and sanctification which they thought had disappeared forever.”(!)

Still, on balance, the great works that Archbishop Lefebvre had already accomplished speak for themselves. If Archbishop Lefebvre had gone to Rome, defended his cause, explained his case, and obtained Ordinary Jurisdiction for his Bishops (which, by divine law, can come to Bishops only through the Successor of St. Peter, as Pope Ven. Pius XII teaches), the Truth is that he probably would already have received the crown of canonization by now. That’s what the schismatic sedevacantists have cost His Grace, and why it’s so important to oppose their error. The 1988 Protocol which was signed between Rome and Archbishop Lefebvre, if it had gone through, would have been enough for Canonical Status.

I wish to note as well that His Excellency Bishop Fellay is a true successor of Archbishop Lefebvre. Damsel of the Faith recounted an ordinary incident that showed the great grace, humility and longsuffering of this traditional Catholic Bishop, during a Confirmation:

Nobody who was in that room is likely to forget what happened next: Bishop Fellay came in, with his as yet untreated foot – which turned out to have been seriously broken – on crutches, and with a big smile on his face! After first apologizing for the ‘inconvenience’ (!) his injury had caused, Fellay then suddenly said, with an even bigger smile: ‘This is a very good sign! It is a very good sign, because it shows that the devil is very angry that these little children receive the Sacrament of Confirmation!’ The faithful present were astonished. How was it that this holy man smiled through the pain of a broken foot and yet rejoiced over obstacles put into his way?

In addition, the SSPX has now done two great things that no other traditional Catholic fraternity, including the FSSP, the SSPV, the Resistance (all three groups that split off from the SSPX to go their own separate ways), the CMRI, the ICK and every other group (there are too many schisms in Tradition today, and too little focus on unity and charity). They’ve “graduated” Roman Catholic Bishops to Roman Catholic Tradition. And they’ve done it not only once but even twice! Alleluia! Bishop Lazo of the Philippines is the first, and we leave it to our readers to research and do their homework on His Excellency. We will mention the great work the SSPX did much more recently, in obtaining, by God’s Grace, that Bishop Huonder should not only want to offer the Traditional Latin Mass, but never again wish to offer the Novus Ordo Mass, according to His Excellency’s own words!

[Interviewer:] May I conclude from your remarks that you no longer wish to celebrate the Novus Ordo at all?

[His Excellency Bishop Huonder]I no longer want to do it. I sense simply that I can no longer do it, because when you are immersed in the traditional Mass, you simply come to a point where you sense that you can no longer do anything else.

Now, we will come to the objections of Mr. Salza and the answers to them.

Fact I: His Holiness Pope Francis has authorized the SSPX to continue legally and licitly ordaining Priests, even without requesting permission from local Bishops (which, in some cases, they do anyway, and they always respect the Bishops, the Shepherds of the Church).

Catholic Culture Reported:

Bishops of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) have been authorized by Pope Francis to ordain new priests without the approval of the local diocesan bishop, according to Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior of the traditionalist group.

‘Last year, I received a letter from Rome, telling me you can freely ordain your priests without the permission of the local ordinary,’ Bishop Fellay reported. He said that the move indicated that although the status of the SSPX remains irregular, ‘the ordination is recognized by the Church not just as valid but in order.’

The SSPX has been involved in talks with the Vatican, aimed at regularizing the status of the group, and informed sources have indicated that an agreement is close to establish the SSPX as a personal prelature. Pope Francis has already said that SSPX priests have the authority to hear sacramental confessions and preside at weddings that will be recognized by the Catholic Church. Bishop Fellay remarked that the permission to ordain bishops is ‘one more step in his acceptance that we are… “normal Catholics.”

Therefore, the Pope recognizes that the ministration of the Sacraments by the SSPX Bishops is both valid and licit. If even Priestly Ordinations are recognized as being not only valid but also “in order,” then so much more are the other Sacraments. And all this is impossible unless the SSPX already has some kind of canonical mission, even if it is, as yet, not absolutely indisputable, and granted in writing like it was to St. Peter’s Fraternity.Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Fact II: His Holiness Pope Francis clearly declared, during his Holy Year of Divine Mercy, that SSPX Priests are granted the faculty to absolve validly and licitly, and then, in a generous and gracious gesture, indefinitely extended these faculties after the Holy Year was concluded.

The SSPX website reported:

At the close of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Holy Father made special mention of the SSPX priests’ faculty to absolve sins.

On Monday, November 21st, 2016, the Vatican released an Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis called Misericordia et Misera. Of note to our readers, the Society of St. Pius X was mentioned in paragraph 12:

For the Jubilee Year I had also granted that those faithful who, for various reasons, attend churches officiated by the priests of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, can validly and licitly receive the sacramental absolution of their sins. For the pastoral benefit of these faithful, and trusting in the good will of their priests to strive with God’s help for the recovery of full communion with the Catholic Church, I have personally decided to extend this faculty beyond the Jubilee Year, until further provisions are made, lest anyone ever be deprived of the sacramental sign of reconciliation through the Church’s pardon.

Thank you Holy Father! The SSPX should be more grateful to Pope Francis for his generous steps toward them, to reconcile them to full communion. One sees often that some among the SSPX – usually laity more than Priests – have contempt for the Holy Father and refer to him, with derision, as “Mr. Bergoglio,” (another bad practice that comes from the schismatic sedevacantists). This anti-clericalist attitude is not good, and does not come from true devotion or genuine piety. We can disagree with the Vicar of Christ, but we must do so respectfully and with charity toward the Holy Father.

When we speak contemptuously and derisively of the Holy Father, even Catholic Bishops who earlier were favorable to Tradition begin to be negatively disposed toward it. We must fight for the rights of Tradition to be recognized in Rome, but respectfully as Archbishop Lefebvre did.Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Bishop Fellay said, about this generous gesture of Pope Francis:

As a result of the Pope’s act, during the Holy Year, we will have ordinary jurisdiction. In the image I mentioned, this has the effect of giving us the official insignia of firefighters, whereas such a status was denied us for decades. In itself, it adds nothing new for the Society, its members, or its faithful. Yet this ordinary jurisdiction will perhaps reassure people who are uneasy or others who until now did not dare to approach us. For, as we said in the communiqué thanking the Pope, the priests of the Society wish for one thing only: ‘To perform with renewed generosity their ministry in the confessional, following the example of untiring devotion that the saintly Curé of Ars gave to all priests.’

The SSPX’s sacramental actions are clearly already recognized as valid and licit. Getting full and indisputable canonical mission, preferably in writing like the 1988 Protocol, would complete it.

Fact III: Pope Francis, while still Cardinal Jorge Mario, clearly said to the SSPX Priests, in Argentina: “You are Catholic. That is evident. I will help you.” The truth is both Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI worked hard to grant the Society a canonical status, and perhaps Pope Francis could complete the task, if the Society desires and asks for it.

Pope Francis said some 30 years ago to Fr. Christian of the SSPX:

And the Cardinal [the current Pope Francis] told us, ‘No, no, you are Catholic, that is evident; I will help you.’ He wrote a letter in our favor to the government, that is so leftwing that they managed to find an opposing letter by the nuncio. Therefore, a 0-0 tie. Now he is the pope, and our lawyer had the opportunity of having a meeting with the Pope. He told him that the problem was still going on with the Society, and asked him to please designate a bishop in Argentina with whom we could sort out this problem. The Pope told him, ‘Yes, and this bishop is myself, I promised to help, and I will do it.’

Now reportedly Cardinal Ratzinger said of Archbishop Lefebvre in 2003: “I consider him to be the most important bishop of the 20th century with regard to the universal Church.” Further, he directly addressed Mr. Salza’s critique when he said:

From my current point of view, I have to agree with Archbishop Lefebvre in retrospect about having his own bishops. Today after the experience of ’15 years of Ecclesia Dei,’ it is clear that such a work as that of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X cannot simply be handed over to the diocesan bishops.

Reverend Fathers of the SSPX, John Salza, whose book you endorsed, and who frequented Society chapels for over a decade, is now attacking the Society for lacking canonical status.

Although some of his claims are clearly mistaken, just think, beside the theological reasons why canonical mission is necessary, how many practical advantages and blessings it would bring both to the SSPX and to all Catholic Tradition. Continue to advocate for Tradition and defend its cause in Rome and the wider Church, just like Archbishop Lefebvre so rightly did, and as you are so nobly continuing to do. But also, now that fifty years have passed since you were founded as a canonically regular society, and about thirty since Archbishop Lefebvre came very close to canonical normalization with Rome, please understand why so many Catholics who love and support you with all their strength, who pray for and donate to your apostolate, believe it would be better and preferable for you to obtain canonical normalization. If the Pope himself said the Society is canonically regular, all the Bishops of the Church would be absolutely obliged to accept it. And it is very probable that most of them will.

The SSPX has already grown to nearly 700 Priests. It can easily cross 1000 and even surpass 1500 soon, but it will do all that much faster if it has canonical status first, like St. Peter’s Fraternity. As we saw earlier, Archbishop Lefebvre lobbied for an “as-is” canonical regularization with Rome many times in His Grace’s letters. When more traditional Catholics can work within the canonical structure of the Church, the Latin Mass can be definitively restored and strengthened, for the good of souls.

The SSPX can do the same even today, bring the case to a happy conclusion, and silence the mouths of all misguided objectors like John Salza once and for all. Deus Vult! God wills it!

Of the collapse of the woke appeal, perhaps we could say, “It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of zealots.”

The “woke” movement was giddy after January 20, 2021. The Left controlled both houses of Congress.

Joe Biden was drafted as the necessary veneer of 1980s Democratic normality to ram through an otherwise hard Left agenda.

All the major cultural, financial, economic, entertainment, and media institutions had played various roles in seeing former president Donald Trump not just defeated, but also impeached, twice. He was written off as persona non grata after the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

So, academia, corporate boardrooms, Hollywood, the media, the Pentagon, professional sports teams, Silicon Valley, and Wall Street in near hysterical fashion all boarded the woke train. All boasted of ferreting out “white rage,” and hiring legions of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” czars.

Critical race theory would be mainstreamed to excise racism and discrimination by embracing racism and discrimination.

“Crime” was to be seen now mostly as a construct created by the elite to protect their own privilege, prerogatives, and property. 

Shoplifting, looting, and street thuggery were just part of living in a normal city.

“Social justice warriors” could replace defunded police. Gone would be most bail, incarceration, mandatory jail time, stop-and-frisk, and broken-windows deterrent policies.

Green agendas, the Left hoped, would fundamentally transform America in putting an immediate stop to man-made “climate change.” 

So, lots of oil and gas leases were either canceled or their fees vastly increased. Pipelines were stopped. Gas and oil companies were warned that everything from lack of financing to new regulations would soon put them out of business. The golden age of wind and batteries was already upon us.

Modern monetary theorists assured us that printing money would “spread the wealth” and devalue the cash of undeserving capitalists who had too much of it. Printing more cash, they believed, would implant it in the hands of the needy who unfairly had too little.

To the extent inflation followed, it would be a good thing, they hoped, a sign of a newly empowered and robust consumer class long denied “equity.”

COVID was virtually over. We were assured by President Biden that Trump had killed over 350,000 Americans with his lax health policies. 

In contrast, Biden would soberly vaccinate us all, claiming the vaccine’s efficacy as his own. He predicted victory over the virus by the Fourth of July. The delta variant was still then just an obscure rumor from abroad.

The border would be opened — and stay open. No more walls. As citizens of the world, the Left welcomed in 2 million immigrants who arrived illegally without audit or vaccinations during a pandemic.

As the woke drove terrified old liberal Democrats into hiding, all the old wisdom about human nature vanished. Forget that criminals hurt the poor the most. Discard the quaint idea of Martin Luther King, Jr. that our character, not our color, determines who we are. Ignore the passéidea that inflation eats away at the wages of the working class.

We could always resume the quarantines, lockdowns, and shutdowns that made Amazon, Target, Walmart, and other conglomerates, hundreds of billions in profit, while the mom-and-pop small businesses went broke.

So, what did the people conclude 10 months out from the woke getting their wishes?

The polls reveal that: 

ü Voters don’t like open borders at all. 

ü They disapprove of illegal immigration as much they support legal immigrants. 

ü They worry about crime and drugs. 

ü They don’t want the unvetted and unvaccinated flowing across their borders.

ü The people want cheaper, not pricier gas. 

ü They prefer American energy self-sufficiency. Why, with cup in hand, go begging to Saudi Arabia and Russia to pump more supposedly Satanic oil?

ü The people like the police and hate crime. Even the rich among the woke are now scared — some of whom sowed the wind of decriminalization and are themselves reaping the whirlwind of crime.

ü Most voters care less about our color, but far more about our character. 

ü They think a meritocracy, not quotas and tribal chauvinism, explains the exceptional American standard of life.

ü They despise inflation as much as recession, and fear they may now get both.

ü Freedom-loving individuals don’t like cancel culture, ostracism, iconoclasm, Trotskyization, and commissars.

ü They prefer free speech and treasure the Bill of Rights.

So, in just 10 months the Left got what it wanted. And the people are becoming not just sick of what has followed, but disgusted. They are terrified that the Left is not just failing, but also wrecking the country and them along with it.

The ages have left us adages for the people’s growing anger at the hubristic and now unpopular Left. We know the ancient warnings variously as, “What comes around, goes around,” “You reap what you sow,” “Be careful about what you wish for,” and “The law of unintended consequences.”

Words like “nemesis” and “karma” also come to mind. But of the collapse of the woke appeal, perhaps we could say, “It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of zealots.”

Biden vs Putin: 

The Ukraine Cage Fight 

Tag-team tyrants Russia and China know that Biden is a pushover — brace yourself America.

If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace … it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.”  George Washington (1793)

Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin chatted for two hours on a video confab Tuesday regarding U.S. concerns over the impending Russian invasion of Ukraine. I have been assured that Biden stayed awake for most of it, but those Situation Room chairs are very comfy. It is no small irony that the call took place on the anniversary of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor — though I am certain that irony is lost on the Biden puppeteers who listened in: Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

As you recall, three weeks ago when Biden made a similar call to ChiCom tyrant Xi Jinping, Xi unwaveringly asserted his authority and power and signaled his disregard for Biden, as made clear by China’s rapid military advances in recent months and its overt aggression toward Taiwan.

I suspect the call with Putin was characterized by equal defiance, given that every Biden word was fully anticipated and factored in by the Russians well in advance.

Understand that China and Russia are tag-teaming, testing Biden’s lack of resolve to confront authoritarian tyrants, as aptly demonstrated by his surrender and retreat from Afghanistan. That test case demonstrated that Biden was not willing to take on the Taliban, a far less threatening adversary than Russia or China. 

If Russia moves on Ukraine, China is likely to quickly move on Taiwan, creating massive national security threats on two fronts. I am not a gambler and thus will not wager on the probability of who will move first, but there is no question Xi and Putin know Biden is a feckless appeaser.

As Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) summarizes the “feckless appeaser” threat: “The weakness Biden has demonstrated, whether against Russia, whether against the Taliban, whether against the Chinese communists, that weakness is dangerous.”

Why does Putin want Ukraine? One reason is the threat that Ukraine could become a NATO country, providing a military staging ground on Russia’s western front.

But more to the point would be that Putin, now 69 with some ailments, would like to see the reunification of Ukraine with Russia as his legacy.

Russian analysts Eugene Rumer and Andrew Weiss note: 

“For [Putin], who dubbed the breakup of the Soviet Union the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century, the ultimate prize would be bringing Ukraine and its capital Kyiv, which the official historiography portrays as the medieval cradle of Russia’s greatness and statehood, back into the fold. … He has long held that the ties between the two nations cannot be severed and that the Soviet collapse in 1991 was an invalid divorce. Just this past July, he published a nearly 7,000-word article denying Ukraine’s right to exist as an independent country, asserting that the Ukrainian people aren’t separate and distinct from Russians, and claiming that Ukraine can prosper and realize its full potential only as part of greater Russia.”

Ahead of the call, Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX), ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, warned Biden “not to make concessions at the expense of our strategic partner Ukraine in response to the Putin regime’s provocative military build-up.” McCaul added, “This would not only fail to de-escalate tensions, it would also embolden Vladimir Putin and his fellow autocrats by demonstrating the United States will surrender in the face of saber-rattling.”

This assessment is shared by a large number of House and Senate members on both sides of the aisle, and it appears Biden got the message.

A policy readout on the Putin call asserts Biden “reiterated his support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy.” According to his handlers, Biden also “voiced the deep concerns of the United States and our European Allies about Russia’s escalation of forces surrounding Ukraine and made clear that the U.S. and our Allies would respond with strong economic and other measures in the event of military escalation.”

“If Russia decides to pursue confrontation, there will be serious consequences,” warned Blinken. Putin must’ve been paralyzed with fear…

According to Sullivan: “President Biden was direct and straightforward with President Putin, as he always is. There was a lot of give-and-take. There was no finger-wagging, but the president was crystal clear about where the United States stands on all of these issues. I will look you in the eye and tell you, as President Biden looked President Putin in the eye and told him today, that things we did not do in 2014, we are prepared to do now.”

Them’s fightin’ words! (And we all know Bill Clinton was the last of the great Demo finger waggers…)

Sullivan, who may be next in line for a Durham investigation indictment, added that beyond sanctions against Russia, Biden would offer “defensive materiel to the Ukrainians above and beyond that which we are already providing,” and “we would fortify our NATO allies on the eastern flank with additional capabilities in response to such an escalation.”

As for Biden’s prior Russian gas pipeline appeasement, Sullivan insists, “The fact is that gas is not currently flowing through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which means that it’s not operating, which means that it’s not leverage for Putin.”

Nonsense.

Biden already undermined that leverage when he green-lighted Putin’s vital Nord Stream NG pipeline, lifting sanctions on that cash cow imposed by Donald Trump. For the record, no post-Cold War president has been tougher on Russia than Trump, despite the Demos’ Russia collusion hoax, which undermined our national security strength with Russia.

Biden removed obstacles to Putin’s 764-mile underwater gas line, enabling Russia to bypass Ukraine, Poland, and Belarus to supply natural gas to Western Europe — which ensures our European NATO allies are more dependent on Russia and less willing to confront Putin. He did so while simultaneously killing America’s Keystone Pipeline, contributing to rapidly increasing inflation.

Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) accurately concludes:  “In the middle of winter [Putin] will be able to starve Ukraine and starve Eastern Europe, and he’ll be able to hold Germany’s energy supply hostage. Putin knows that he can withstand UN sanctions if he has a fractured Europe, and Nord Stream 2 is exactly what’s going to fracture Europe.”

So, what’s up on the Russian side of its border with Ukraine right now?

Basically, an ominous threat of a 2014 repeat when, on the watch of spineless Barack Obama and his then-sidekick Biden, Russia invaded and annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, a strategically important peninsula along the northern coast of the Black Sea.

You know, that was back when Biden did corruptly influence Ukrainian officials for personal gain — unlike when Democrats falsely accused Trump of doing the same.

Currently, Moscow has amassed more than 90,000 troops on the Ukrainian border in preparation for invasion and is expected to build that force to the estimated 175,000 level required to declare that it’s game on. For perspective, Putin took Crimea with about 25,000 troops.

In two months, the Russia/Ukraine border ground will be hard frozen — thus far easier for crossing with heavy armor, and that is the greatest threat window.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin observed: “This looks very familiar. It looks like a replay of 2014 because we’ve seen this before — we saw what the outcome was — we remain concerned.”

Austin is never short when it comes to his keen sense of the obvious — of course, it is a replay of 2014.

Since Obama and Biden enabled the last invasion, the U.S. has sent Ukraine almost $2.5 billion in military aid, and it is estimated that more than 10,000 Ukrainians have died in border skirmishes since 2014 — mostly in strikes by Russian regulars who wear no uniform insignia, the “little green men.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists that Ukraine’s army is a “highly capable and highly organized force that is confident in its potential and can derail any expansionist plans by the enemy.” He added, “Ukrainian servicemen are continuing to perform their most important mission: to protect the freedom and sovereignty of the state from the Russian aggressor.”

As George W. Bush’s former ambassador to Ukraine, William Taylor, notes, “The Ukrainian military is much stronger than it was [when Russia seized Crimea] seven and a half years ago.” Yet he adds, “They’re no match for the Russian military.”

Additionally, while Ukrainian forces are far better trained and equipped than the Afghan forces who quickly folded as soon as the Taliban arrived in Kabul, Ukrainian forces are confronted with the same concerns about Biden’s lack of resolve.

According to Biden’s CIA Director William Burns: “I would never underestimate President Putin’s risk appetite on Ukraine. We don’t know that Putin has made up his mind to use force. But what we do know is that he’s putting the Russian military [and] Russian security services in a place where they could act in a very sweeping way.” Burns added, “He may see this winter, tactically, as kind of offering a favorable landscape,” and he “could act in a very sweeping way.”

Actually, Biden and his handlers are the “favorable landscape” that will enable Putin and Xi to “act in a very sweeping way.” Biden’s public approval is underwater on just about every issue, including, most notably, confidence in his “leadership.” Putin and Xi have added that domestic factor to their calculations.

And remember: Burns and Austin are the same Biden administration geniuses who were utterly unprepared for China’s hypersonic missile test.

With Trump out of the way, and certain that Biden’s socialist regime will bow to the ChiCom global agenda of military and economic dominance, in July and again in August, Xi “tested” hypersonic missiles.

That prompted Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, who has aptly demonstrated his incompetence by leading Biden’s Afghanistan surrender, to conclude: “What we saw was a very significant event of a test of a hypersonic weapon system. And it is very concerning.” JCS Vice Chairman Gen. John Hyten remarked that it “looks like a first-use weapon.” Hyten added: “It went around the world, dropped off a hypersonic glide vehicle that glided all the way back to China, that impacted a target in China.” It was literally a shot “around the world.”

But never fear: Biden put Kamala Harris in charge of the Space Council. And just before she convened that group last week, Putin “tested” his sea-based hypersonic missile system.

Both of these missile tests were shots fired across Biden’s bow, in China’s case a warning not to interfere if it annexes Taiwan, and in Russia’s case a warning not to interfere if it annexes Ukraine. There are questions about U.S. capabilities to defend against such weapons, but I doubt those questions take into account classified capabilities.

So, what else can Biden do now? No doubt one of his brilliant national security strategists is considering bribing Putin to stand down, as Obama and Biden did with Iran in 2016. Recall that they loaded up a 747 freight liner with $400 million in palleted cash as part of their $1.7 billion nuclear appeasement (“empowerment”) deal.

And how did that bribe work out? Rhetorical question.

For the moment, Israel is keeping Iran in check with direct hits on Iranian turf against key Islamist leaders and facilities. While Israel received the full support of the Trump administration, its actions to contain the Iranian nuclear threat are tolerated by Biden.

Putin knows that the most significant deterrent Biden has in his inventory would be to embed a contingent of U.S. forces with Ukrainian forces. Thus, any military incursion by Russia would constitute an attack against the United States. Biden is not about to go there, which is indicative of our assessment of Putin’s resolve.

So where do things stand? Apparently, the Cold War was over, until it wasn’t…

Eight years of Obama/Biden foreign policy failures are now being repeated by the Biden/Harris regime. Perilously, Joe Biden and his domestic enemies of Liberty have eviscerated most of Trump’s rock-solid foreign policy with China and Russia, and we are likely to pay a very heavy price for that discard, maybe when the winter ground hardens on the Ukraine border with Russia.

Typical of the Democrats’ illogic right now is this observation from Demo strategist Leslie Marshall, who declared this week that “regardless of who is president if [Russia] fears Joe Biden or not, they better fear the United States military.” Well, yes, and NATO will fortify a large number of our aircraft ready to go and put our Black Sea fleet assets on alert. But let me take her assertion apart for you. “Regardless of who is president” is a tacit acknowledgment that our most significant enemies know Biden and his handlers are feckless idiots. And for the record, none of our military assets will be put into motion in Europe or the Pacific unless Biden authorizes that action.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is contemplating options for an evacuation of U.S. citizens in Ukraine if hostilities commence. Sound familiar?

Many fascinating things came up during the arguments before the court, but here’s one thing that didn’t come up: the horror of abortion itself. The horror of abortion isn’t merely that a woman kills a child, but that a woman kills her child. From the dawn of history, this has been viewed, in many if not most cultures, as an abomination. Shakespeare puts these words into the mouth of Lady Macbeth, “I have suckled a baby, and I know how sweet it is to love the baby at my breast. But even as the baby was smiling up at me, I would have plucked my nipple out of its mouth, and smashed its brains out against a wall ….” For Shakespeare, this is intended to expose Lady Macbeth’s psychology as pure evil. A woman who would murder her offspring is a scourge on the human race.Perhaps recognizing the sheer baseness of defending abortion, Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, representing the Biden administration, attempted to argue against the Mississippi law based on the sanctity of precedent. The legal term for this is stare decisis, which means “let the decision stand.” Roe v. Wade has been recognized as a constitutional right since 1973, so let’s continue to affirm it as a constitutional right going forward.Interestingly enough, the argument for stare decisis or precedent is a conservative one. It relies on the presumptive validity of tradition, of doing today and tomorrow what you did yesterday and the day before that. I once heard a student in my class argue this general position. If an institution has persisted for a very long time, he said, then even if the rationale for it is unknown or obscure, we should accord it a high degree of respect, because its very longevity shows that it must serve some important social purpose.To which my professor replied, destroying the argument in a single sentence, “What about anti-Semitism?” The point is that longevity by itself can’t tell you whether a tradition should be cherished and upheld. There are good and bad traditions. Slavery and segregation are also American traditions that were not merely permitted in society but also upheld by the force of law.With his customary clarity, Justice Clarence Thomas got to the heart of the matter when he raised the question of where the specific abortion right could be found in the Constitution.“If we were talking about the Second Amendment, I know exactly what we’re talking about. If we’re talking about the Fourth Amendment, I know what we’re talking about, because it’s written. It’s there. What specifically is the right here that we’re talking about?”The simple truth is that there is no abortion right specified in the Constitution. Hence, the argument of the pro-choice camp can be summarized this way: Regardless of the original justification for Roe v. Wade, or even if there is no constitutional basis for the decision at all, nevertheless, it’s a decision, and it has lasted for nearly half a century, and so this court should not overrule it.Justice Brett Kavanaugh raised the point that the Supreme Court has, on multiple occasions, overturned precedents. He gave as examples Baker v. Carr, which created the basis for one person, one vote; Miranda v. Arizona, which required police to administer so-called Miranda rulings to suspects in criminal custody; and of course, Brown v. Board of Education, which outlawed “separate but equal” and ended legal segregation in public schools.The Brown precedent was especially troublesome for the Biden administration because it overturned a precedent, Plessy v. Ferguson, that has stood for more than half a century. Kavanaugh’s point is that if Plessy was wrongly decided, and the Court was right to uproot that longstanding precedent, why shouldn’t this court, if it holds Roe v. Wade to be wrongly decided, uproot it as well?Here, Prelogar insisted that precedents can only be overturned if the court discovers new information unavailable to the court that decided the original case. The difficulty for Prelogar, and the Biden administration, is that the Brown court had no new information in 1954 that the late-19th-century Plessy court lacked. The Brown court regarded segregation as morally wrong—a violation of basic human dignity as well as equal protection under the law—while the Plessy court regarded it as morally permissible.Moreover, who can say that in the abortion case there has been no new information since 1973? The Roe decision was pegged to the concept of “viability,” the condition of the fetus being able to survive outside the womb. But the point of viability has moved up due to scientific advances over the past several decades, and we can reasonably expect that over time it will move up further still.Additionally, while the Roe court muddleheadedly speculated over whether the fetus is a distinct human being, today we can see, through the technology of ultrasound, that the fetus, while attached to the mother, is nevertheless its person, with its heartbeat, its organs, and its distinctive genetic make-up. Conjoined twins too are attached, but there are still two distinctive human beings there; we can’t say that this is a single individual with two heads, four eyes, and 20 toes.For nearly 50 years, we’ve lived with the lies and atrocious arguments of those justifying abortion. From what I saw and heard at the Supreme Court, a clear majority of the justices have had enough. They’re ready to uphold the Mississippi law that would allow states to restrict abortions after 15 weeks. They might even be ready—I sure hope they are—to chop off the head of the snake. It’s time to end Roe v. Wade.

80 years ago, yesterday, on Sunday, December 7th, 1941 at 7:48 AM Hawaiian time, 353 Japanese Zeros appeared over the horizon on the Pacific Ocean and attacked the United States military base at Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 American soldiers, injuring another 1,178. The next day, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt stood before Congress, before the country, before the world, and stated that December 7th, would be “a day that would live in infamy.” It was an attack on our country, an attack on our democracy, an attack on our Constitution. Everything that we held dear as a country, as American citizens was under assault, and we as a nation rallied together to defend it. The attack on Pearl Harbor thrust the United States into World War II. It “awakened a sleeping giant.” For the next three and a half years, over 400,000 Americans laid down their lives defending America and defeating Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany.

Looking at what is happening in our country today, the past 10 months, it’s fair to ask, what did our soldiers really fight for? These great Americans risked and sacrificed everything to preserve an America that our leaders are willfully, selfishly, blindly giving away. Our democracy is under assault, not from a foreign adversary, but from within, from American citizens. Everything that Imperial Japanese tried to do to us 80 years ago, everything that they wanted to destroy about America with those planes and bombs, our national sovereignty, our democracy, our constitution, our civil rights, is being upended by our political leaders. 

It has been commonly accepted that we cannot lose this country from a hostile foreign enemy from without. The only way we can lose this country is by an attack from within. And today, our leaders are doing to America what Hirohito and Hitler only hoped to do. They are tearing down every institution that has made America great, our secure borders, our secure elections, our secure money supply, our secure civil rights, our Constitution. 

We have seen the enemy, and he is us. It is our greed, our fear, our ingratitude, our selfishness. We, as a nation, possess none of the character traits that our World War II soldiers put out there in France, in Germany, in the Pacific, to preserve our country, and defeat totalitarianism. And we are going to wake up one day, and the America that those soldiers laid down their lives defending with be too far gone because we have been too weak, too comfortable, too scared to defend it ourselves.

In 2020, governors and judges in battleground states unilaterally and unconstitutionally changed our election laws implementing universal mail-in ballots, un-monitored drop boxes, no voter-ID, no signature match on ballots, all of which, to an honest observer, are highly susceptible to election fraud. We witnessed, in real-time, the integrity of our elections completely compromised. We turned the hallmark of American democracy, our election system, into something that you would find the nations like the ones we defeated in World War II where the citizens vote but the election has already been decided.

In the first week in office, our current President opened our borders to the world, and in the past 10 months, 1.7 million foreign nationals from 84 different countries have walked across our southern border, untested, unvetted. Record numbers of drug dealers, gang members, human traffickers have entered our country illegally, committing crimes, and about which very little is being done. Record amounts of drugs; opioids and fentanyl, have crossed the border, and have killed over 100,000 Americans this year, destroying American families, hollowing out our communities, rending the very fabric of our country. This is a direct assault on the mainland United States, and our leaders are not only allowing it to happen, but they are also promoting it.

Since January 2020, our Constitution, the foundation of our country, our freedom, our civil rights have been attacked daily. Joe Biden has handed down federal vaccine mandates through executive fiat, forcing American citizens to take medication they do not want or need. Political speech is no longer protected or free in America. Regularly, Big Tech oligarchs at the behest of our current administration are censoring speech it doesn’t like or agree with, deeming it misinformation, and canceling the offenders from social discourse. The Biden Administration has weaponized the intelligence agencies to target their political opponents, labeling them white supremacists or domestic terrorists, for espousing opinions they do not like. For fifteen years, the NSA has been tracking the communication of every American citizen, compiling and storing our metadata to monitor us, and potentially use it against us in the future.

We, as a nation, are bending over backward to appease communist China, a country that represents everything Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany stood for – totalitarianism, oppression, concentration camps, political suppression. Our political leaders, big business, Hollywood, professional sports have been kowtowing to China for years, taking their orders directly from President Xi to enhance their bottom line. We have traded our national sovereignty, in exchange for financial benefits. We are selling our principles for cheap labor and cheap consumer goods.

It’s the height of selfishness. An entire generation sacrificed everything to pass along to future generations the greatest country the world has ever seen, and we are bartering their extreme sacrifice away for selfish and ignoble reasons. They fought for and defended a country that doesn’t exist anymore. We used to have a citizenry that would risk their lives defending America, and American ideals. Today, we have generations of people who believe it is fashionable to attack America, and our ideals, to call the Constitution and the Bill of Rights racist and white supremacy. We’ve spent too long picking and choosing what about our American principles to defend based on personal expediency to the point that none of the principles remain intact anymore. And all that is left is a shell of a country that used to represent what is great about humanity. 

Looking back at what our WWII soldiers sacrificed, and what they sacrificed it for, we get a glimpse of what real courage is, what real sacrifice is, what real virtue is. It is risking your life storming the beaches at Normandy to defeat a totalitarian dictatorship, it is not storming the platforms on social media from your mother’s basement to defeat someone who used the wrong pronoun. And what we as a country see as courage, sacrifice and virtue will determine what about our country will remain, and what it will become.

Nativity Scene Erected In Central Park December 9, 2021 Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the Catholic League’s nativity scene on public property: Today, the Catholic League erected a life-size nativity scene in Central Park, on a piece of public property in front of the Plaza Hotel, between 58th and 59th Street on 5th Avenue. We received a permit from the New York City Parks Department, as we have for decades. There are no Santa Clauses, reindeers, Jack Frosts, or any other secular symbols surrounding our religious display. We don’t need to have them. Why? Because Central Park is a public forum, a place that is open to all ideas, concerts, artistic exhibitions, and the like. So the government cannot stop us from erecting our crèche. So why do some say that religious symbols cannot be displayed on public property unless they are accompanied by secular symbols? They would not be correct if they were referring to a public forum, but they would be correct if they were referring to a swatch of public land near a municipal building, such as city hall. The difference there is that it could be argued that the proximity of the religious symbols near a municipal entity might be interpreted as government sanction of religion. That argument cannot reasonably be made if the land is a public forum. Practicing Christians, Jews, and others, need to understand the difference so as to avoid unnecessary problems. We hope that New Yorkers, and those visiting New York City this Christmas season, will stop by and see the Catholic League’s nativity scene in Central Park. It will be up through the New Year.
