Biden promises double funding to send govt ‘child specialists’ into US homes

March 16, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s education plan includes a promise to expand visits by government specialists to homes with babies and young children in order to increase government “support.”

Biden’s proposal is a continuation of policies straight out of the Obama White House that aggressively sought to nudge Americans toward accepting ever-increasing government involvement in their private lives.

With the introduction of its Julia website, the Obama administration demonstrated how a person could be wholly government dependent, from birth until death. The site was short-lived as Americans recoiled from its premise, with even very liberal CNN calling it the “Wrong vision for America.”

The Biden campaign proposes to double federal funding for a program that was founded as part of the “Affordable Care Act,” better known as “Obamacare.”

Expand home visiting. Through the Affordable Care Act, President Obama and Vice President Biden funded voluntary home visiting programs, under which health and child development specialists make consistent, scheduled visits to help parents through the critical early stage of parenting.

Families may receive coaching on preventive health and prenatal practices, learn how to care for their babies and about important child development milestones and behaviors, receive breastfeeding support, get connected to employment and child care, and receive general support in navigating the often-stressful early stages of parenthood. SUBSCRIBEto LifeSite’s daily headlinesSUBSCRIBEU.S. Canada World Catholic

Home visiting has been found to improve school readiness, maternal, and child health, and reduce child maltreatment. President Biden will double funding for home visiting so more families benefit from this program every year.

‘The government does not trust us to raise our own children’

Some authorities have warned that such measures are fraught with potential peril from government bureaucracies that do not trust parents to raise their own children without the government’s invasive guidance.

Those concerns are heightened now that some jurisdictions have already moved to deny parental authority when a child, claiming to be “transgender,” seeks to undergo sex-change medical treatments and procedures.

Last year, Oregon’s governor signed into law a bill that established voluntary “universal” invasive home visits by state employees to all households with newborns.

The measure, which took effect on September 29, 2019, elicited great excitement among progressives and statists while sending chills down the spines of parents and families who feared increased government interference in their private lives.

The language of the bill – now law – had some concerned that these “universal” visits could become mandatory, even though state authorities denied it.

“(Are) universal home visits possibly just another way for the State to collect funds, and to potentially remove children from their homes and place them into the lucrative foster care and adoption system?” asked an essay in Health Impact News.

“Apparently, the state of Oregon is concerned that some parents are raising their children without the watchful eye of Big Brother monitoring their every move – a big no-no in the view of the progressive left,” opined Paula Bolyard.

“It’s frightening to think about what would happen to parents who refuse such visits,” noted Bolyard. She added:

As someone who has been involved in the homeschooling movement for more than 20 years, I have seen many attempts to increase the oversight of children taught at home by requiring home visits by a teacher or social worker. The basic premise behind these attempted power grabs is that parents cannot be trusted with the care of their own children — that an agent of the state is the only one qualified to ensure that children are being properly cared for. Without such surveillance, proponents argue, children are at risk for abuse and neglect, something they believe government agents can prevent, despite volumes of evidence to the contrary. In Oregon, in fact, children in the foster care system are abused at twice the national rate. One wonders how a state that can’t handle the children currently in its care could possibly manage to surveil an additional 40,000 children per year, let alone pay for such a program (answer: it can’t).

Bolyard said the home visits aren’t just about the health of the newborns, and that the state’s representative would also be observing and making judgements about the parents.

“Government agents monitoring the homes of law-abiding parents who have not been accused of a crime without a warrant is an unconscionable violation not only of parental rights and individual liberty but also a trampling of the Fourth Amendment and the Due Process Clause of the Constitution,” warned Bolyard in her PJ Media commentary.

“The bottom line is that the statists pushing these policies do not trust us with our own children,” concluded Bolyard. “It’s not enough for them to have their hooks in them 180 days a year, feeding them propaganda from the first day of kindergarten through the end of high school. They now want access to them from the day they are born — and they will succeed if parents don’t rise up and tell the government nannies to back off.”

Last fall, Scotland scrapped a plan first proposed in 2014 that would have directed the government to appoint a state official, referred to as a “named person,” for every Scottish child from birth to age 18, regardless of the child’s or the family’s perceived need for public intervention.

The “named person” – who could be a teacher, school administrator, social worker or someone else – was to be assigned in order to watch over all children in Scotland 18 years old and younger, receiving information from doctors, social agencies, schools, courts, and the children themselves without parental knowledge.

In order to promote the plan, the Scottish government imitated the Obama administration’s “Julia” scheme and promoted its “Getting it right” campaign, telling the story of “Cameron,” a child whose Named Person brought him to the attention of social workers over concerns about his “social and emotional development.” In the end, Cameron was put under the supervision of a “Lead Professional” and a “multi-agency plan was agreed.”

While the government had insisted that the bill is nothing more than a way to make public services more available and efficient, it had come under heavy criticism from legal experts who said it was a grave violation of the legally guaranteed human rights of parents and families.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio has just had a bad case of the winter flu. But no sooner did he recover, that he shook the hand with Bishop Delmas of Angers, who upon returning to France discovered he was positive for Corona Virus infection, which he brought to the Vatican.  Between Sunday past and March 27, the world should know whether Bergoglio has contracted Coronavirus. With only one lung, he would probably not liver longer than  a month after infection.

If Bergoglio dies, then it is highly probable that the Cardinals will not convene a Conclave during the national Quarantine in Italy, due to problems of border crossings and the fact that the Cardinals who do not want to come to Italy certainly will not suffer being left out of the Conclave. The sede vacante might go on for months.*

Under that scenario, those who believe Bergoglio is undoubted the Pope against all evidence of fact, law and testimony, will wake up Sedevacantists have have to deal with the stigma which they have excoriated Catholics with for 4 years now.

We who recognize that Pope Benedict XVI never validly resigned, won’t be Francisvacantistss, because Pope Benedict is still the pope, and whether Bergoglio lives or dies, it changes nothing, other than perhaps opening the way for Pope Benedict’ restoration.

In the meantime, let us pray for the repentance of sinners, since before all else we should wish the salvation of each individual, even if they show no sign of correspondence to God’s graces. But by pray, I do not presume, because such graces are not for us to merit, they require the infinite merits of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

* I personally do not believe the papal law allows for such a delay, but it does not seem lately that the Cardinals care one whit for papal laws, so….

Escalating Quickly: Hoboken NJ Announces City-Wide Enforced Coronavirus Curfew – All Citizens Must Stay in Their Homes 10pm to 5am…

Posted on March 14, 2020 by sundance

Telling people to remain calm and simultaneously forcing people to remain in their homes would seem to be a contradiction in messaging; potentially only worsening the panic.  However, this is one of those, “well, yes it’s unconstitutional except when….” moments, that may have rather profound consequences.

The Democrat mayor of Hoboken New Jersey has announced a mandatory curfew between 10pm and 5am where all residents are not permitted to exit their residence; and all bars must close due to the coronavirus.

I don’t know if this is the first ‘mandatory’ coronavirus curfew, or even how such an effort could feasibly be enforced, but it’s likely not going to be the last:.

New Jersey – 10:45pm ET – Hoboken Mayor Ravinder Bhalla announced a citywide curfew will be in effect starting Monday. The curfew also places major restrictions on bars and restaurants.

The curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m.- 5 a.m.starting on Monday, and until further notice.  Residents will be required to stay home, except for emergencies, or if needed at work by their employer.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, bars that do not serve food will not be permitted to operate at all. All other bars and restaurants are no longer permitted to serve food within the establishment, and can only sell takeout or delivery. (read more)

  8. rjones99 says:March 15, 2020 at 11:58 amThis pandemic situation is just about the most confusing thing I’ve experienced in my life. There are two elements of it that stand out.1/ Reality and truth… I have searched high and low for information from experts. One camp asserts the situation overhyped and while serious for elderly is not otherwise that serious, the other side asserts we are under-reacting to an extremely serious situation and they point at Wuhan, Iran, and Italy. As a technical person, I find the mathematics behind the serious situation argument to be solid. On the other hand, the data from the US is not strongly supporting the models and predictions. The rate of spread and deaths are not matching up to what is supposed to be happening. You can argue we are learning from others’ mistakes or that our situation is different (eg, more young people, less smoking). In my opinion it’s too early to solidly conclude anything but something smells fishy to me.The above re the true situation re this virus is independent of what is happening in the media. There is no doubt the media is leveraging this to bash Trump at every turn. That the media is propagating considerable disinformation is undeniable. I think the obvious efforts of the media almost necessarily had to be resisted by the Trump administration, unfortunately leaving many, including me, confused. The interesting question for me is whether the conflict over the truth seen here is just our condition or whether this could ever be “fixed” in any meaningful sense. Can or should the media ever become non-partisan? Having trustworthy information is beneficial and saves lives, but the cost of investing trust in a media elite or governmental organization is obviously way too high. Does truth survive competition in social media? Doesn’t seem like it because right now half the people believe one thing, half the other. The truth will only be known after the dead are counted, and even then…2/ Globalization…Pandemics are by definition global events. Are we now so interconnected that they require a coordinated global response? Are we shooting off our own toes by leaving trading partners to deal with their own problems? This is clearly the argument that the globalists would want us to believe. They would argue that we should invest in global organizations to manage these events. If we don’t, we’ll suffer the consequences. I’d argue…hmmm…the last really serious pandemic was 1918 and that seems to indicate serious pandemic are a pretty unlikely event, therefore why cede sovereignty to global organizations. I trust my own country to worry about my best interests, not some global elites who are more worried about global social justice and I’ll just take the risk of global economic impact. Here’s the really creepy thing. There was a simulation of a global corona virus outbreak at Johns Hopkins in OCTOBER 2019. Here are links to press and a video they produced based on the simulation.https://www.bloomberg.com/press-releases/2019-10-16/johns-hopkins-center-for-health-security-world-economic-forum-and-bill-melinda-gates-foundation-host-pandemic-exercise-andI have to admit I often see conspiracies where there are none…its just too easy for me to see things connect in ways that likely aren’t really connected in reality. But when I watch that video and hear the remarks in media today which are nearly identical…well my conspiracy flag just pops up. If there weren’t so much evidence that these people actually believe and employ their philosophy about “the greater good” it would be much harder to suspect anything. But the folks participating in that simulation think they’re the saviors of all humanity, our moral avatars, THE global leaders…I can easily some how some subgroup of them could act to trigger this thing as a way to get Trump and to instruct the rest of us about the NEED for globalism….Am I completely crazy, or what?LikeReply
    • 6×47 says:March 15, 2020 at 12:21 pmIn the coronavirus pandemic we have the confluence of two phenomenon: One medical and scientific, one political.First, medical and scientific. COVID-19 is a serious infectious disease that causes pneumonia at a high rate. If there are many cases of pneumonia at the same time it will overwhelm hospitals’ capacity to provide ventilators and respiratory support. People will die. Lots of people. Second, the response has been politicized. No politician -particularly in the US – wants to be accused of doing too little, so everyone is going overboard so as not to be outdone. Thus, the spectacle of states and municipalities with zero or one case going into full panic mode lockdown.LikeReply

Gospel Jn 4:5-42

Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar,
near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
Jacob’s well was there.
Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well.
It was about noon.

A woman of Samaria came to draw water.
Jesus said to her,
“Give me a drink.”
His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.
The Samaritan woman said to him,
“How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
—For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.—

Jesus answered and said to her,
“If you knew the gift of God
and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink, ‘
you would have asked him
and he would have given you living water.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep;
where then can you get this living water?
Are you greater than our father Jacob,
who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself
with his children and his flocks?”
Jesus answered and said to her,
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again;
but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst;
the water I shall give will become in him
a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty
or have to keep coming here to draw water.”

Jesus said to her,
“Go call your husband and come back.”
The woman answered and said to him,
“I do not have a husband.”
Jesus answered her,
“You are right in saying, ‘I do not have a husband.’
For you have had five husbands,
and the one you have now is not your husband.
What you have said is true.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, I can see that you are a prophet.
Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain;
but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”
Jesus said to her,
“Believe me, woman, the hour is coming
when you will worship the Father
neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
You people worship what you do not understand;
we worship what we understand,
because salvation is from the Jews.
But the hour is coming, and is now here,
when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth;
and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him.
God is Spirit, and those who worship him
must worship in Spirit and truth.”
The woman said to him,
“I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ;
when he comes, he will tell us everything.”
Jesus said to her,
“I am he, the one speaking with you.”

At that moment his disciples returned,
and were amazed that he was talking with a woman,
but still no one said, “What are you looking for?”
or “Why are you talking with her?”
The woman left her water jar
and went into the town and said to the people,
“Come see a man who told me everything I have done.
Could he possibly be the Christ?”
They went out of the town and came to him.
Meanwhile, the disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat.”
But he said to them,
“I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
So the disciples said to one another,
“Could someone have brought him something to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“My food is to do the will of the one who sent me
and to finish his work.
Do you not say, ‘In four months the harvest will be here’?
I tell you, look up and see the fields ripe for the harvest.
The reaper is already receiving payment
and gathering crops for eternal life,
so that the sower and reaper can rejoice together.
For here the saying is verified that ‘One sows and another reaps.’
I sent you to reap what you have not worked for;
others have done the work,
and you are sharing the fruits of their work.”

Many of the Samaritans of that town began to believe in him
because of the word of the woman who testified,
“He told me everything I have done.”
When the Samaritans came to him,
they invited him to stay with them;
and he stayed there two days.
Many more began to believe in him because of his word,
and they said to the woman,
“We no longer believe because of your word;
for we have heard for ourselves,
and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.”

BERGOGLIO CONSUMMATES HIS APOSTASY FROM THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST

FROM ROME EDITOR3 COMMENTS

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

The Office of the Prefecture of the Papal Household, headed by Archbishop Gänswein still — at least on paper — has announced the ultimate and consummate apostasy of Bergoglio: the celebration of Holy Week Services WITHOUT the faithful. Here is the official statement, in the official English version, original coloring:

The Prefecture of the Pontifical Household announces that, because of the current global public health emergency, all the Liturgical Celebrations of Holy Week will take place without the physical presence of the faithful.
Furthermore, this Prefecture informs that until April 12 the General Audiences and the Angelus presided over by the Holy Father will be available only in live streaming on the official Vatican News website.

That is right, Holy Week for Bergoglio, but not for thee!

The sheep of the smells and bells, the poor of the peripheries of Vatican City: DON’T YOU DARE COUGH ON ME!

This is the latest UNMISTAKABLE SIGN that the man never had the petrine munus, which is first and foremost a CHARISTMATIC GIFT to govern the Church.

Let those who have eyes see!

But this perfidia completa — complete betrayal — something the enemies of the Church have dreamed of, is not just something you outside of Rome can scoff at. As Giuseppe Pellegrino, the English language translator of Antonio Socci’s book, remarks on twitter:Giuseppe Pellegrino@pellegrino2020

Vatican announces that all public Holy Week and Easter services cancelled. This will now spread to the universal Church and your parish.http://www.vatican.va/various/prefettura/index_en.html …63Twitter Ads info and privacy58 people are talking about this

The true contagion is not the Coronavirus 19.  The true contagion which needs to be cleansed from the Church is Jorge Mario Bergoglio and his false claim to the papacy!

For those of us who know that Pope Benedict XVI is the true pope, we can wryly remark that the faithful are better off not getting anywhere near Bergoglio lest they catch his spirit of heresy and apostasy.

Lent is not simply a time of purification, it is also a season of holiness – a time to grow in goodness and love, a time to conform ourselves to the likeness of God, in whose image we were created and now recreated in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Thus, the sacrament of confession is opportune and may be a necessity. Moreover, our participation in and love for the Eucharist ought to increase, for there we meet him who is our life and our salvation.

God and Hell

Fr. Thomas G. Weinandy, OFM, Cap.

SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020

Note: This is the first of two columns offering Lenten reflections by Fr. Weinandy on the proper understanding of Hell.

The question of whether everyone is saved, and thus no one goes to Hell, was debated (and censured) in the early Church, as well as in the wake of Hans Urs Von Balthasar’s 1987 book: Dare We Hope “That All Men be Saved”? Recently, this dispute has intensified with the publication of David Bentley Hart’s book: That All Shall be Saved: Heaven, Hell, and Universal Salvation.

Though I have not yet read the book, I gather from the various critiques and his response that Hart adamantly argues and definitively concludes that everyone is ultimately saved.  Thus, no one will reside everlastingly in the pains of Hell.

I do not want to tackle Hart’s arguments directly, here. Instead, I want to attend to some questions that I believe are pertinent and, from what I have read, have not been adequately addressed.

First, it’s commonly argued that since God is all-good and all-loving, he would not allow anyone to be punished forever in Hell.  Such eternal damnation would be contrary to his supreme love and goodness – his all-consuming mercy and forgiveness.   I would hold, instead, that God’s goodness and love demand Hell’s existence and that it is forever inhabited by the damned.

Because he is goodness itself and love itself, God loves all that is good, and therefore, by his very nature, he must hate what is evil.  Evil, by its very nature, is an affront to and an attack upon God himself.  If God tolerated or excused evil, or if he thought it to be of little account, he would not be all-good and all-loving, for he would sanction and so participate in evil itself.

He would then be a malevolent deity, a God who does not possess genuine concern for what is morally good, just, and upright.  Thus, God himself, in his very goodness and love, is the foundational principle that validates the possibility of Hell.

Second, while God does not hate those who perpetrate evil, for he is their good Creator, yet he does hate, he cannot endure, the evil they do.  Those who willingly and knowingly do evil are incapable of dwelling in his all-good and all-holy presence.  They simply are not morally suited to abide with him.

Because of this sinful situation, the Father, in his love, sent his Son into the world, not to condemn sinners but to save those who believe in his incarnate Son – that they may not perish but possess eternal life. (see Jn. 3:16-17).  The Father eternally and lovingly wills that “we should be holy and blameless before him,” and so become “his sons through Jesus Christ.” (Eph. 1:4-5)  We perceive God’s lavish mercy and compassion in the crucified and risen Jesus.

*

Third, not every evil act makes a person completely abhorrent to God, but some evil acts so conform someone into an evil person that, unless they repent and undergo change of heart, they can never abide in God’s presence.

This is why the Catholic Church distinguishes venial from mortal sin. (1 Jn. 5:16-17)  Even venial sins must be purified, either in this life or in purgatory after death.  Only then can the venial sinner enter fully into the presence of the all-good, all-holy, and all-loving God.  Those who knowingly and willingly commit mortal sins, and remain unrepentant in this life, deprive themselves forever from entering into the full, heavenly presence of God.

Intrinsically evil acts – such as murder and adultery – are specified in the Ten Commandments (though not every act prohibited in the Ten Commandments is necessarily a mortal sin, e.g., “small” lies).

Other examples can be found, for example, in St. Paul’s letters (e.g., Gal. 5:19-21).   Paul warns that those who do such evil acts, if they remain unrepentant, “will not inherit the kingdom of God.”  Every sin conforms a person to the likeness of the sin committed, but some sins are so evil that they can completely stamp or seal moral character – making someone a murderer, thief, fornicator, adulterer, deceiver, and hater.  Mortal sins justly exclude the unrepentant sinner from God’s good presence.

Fourth, we should understand that those who have perpetrated such heinous evil acts and have remained unrepentant here on earth are repulsed when, at the moment of their death, they are confronted with the all-good, all-holy, and all-loving God.  It is utter folly to think that those who die in mortal sin will be overwhelmed by their vision of the all-loving and good God and so will immediately repent of their sin and love him everlastingly in return.

They will indeed be overwhelmed, for they will not be able to bear the sight of someone so radically and utterly different from their own evil selves.  They will straightaway flee in repugnant disgust and fearsome hatred.  The last place they will want to be is in God’s presence, and they will never want to be there for all eternity.

Thus, while, from one perspective, they are eternally condemned by a just God, yet, from another perspective, they have willingly and eagerly cast themselves into their own everlasting damnation.

Is this not all rather frightening, to say the least?  That is why the Church, in her motherly concern for her children, has, for centuries, accentuated the importance of Lent.  Lent is a time for turning away from the evil of sin – sin that can lead us to everlasting death – and for turning towards the mercy and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ.

CONTE HAS DEMOSTRATED A WILLINGNESS TO BE MORE DICTATORIAL THAN BENITO MUSSOLINI

WHO IS GIUSEPPE CONTE, THE ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER WHO HAS ASSUMED DICTATORIAL POWERS UNHEARD OF IN ITALIAN HISTORY?

FROM ROME EDITOR

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

No one in the entire history of the Italian peninsula has ever issued a decree that everyone in the peninsula stay in their homes for 1 month. No one has even attempted such level of divine dictatorship without heavy criticism and opposition. No one has achieved the like control of a single city in Italy without opposition. But Giuseppe Conte has done all these things in a matter of two weeks. And he a man who was never elected to any office ever.

So I ask, who is Giuseppe Conte?

If you read Wikipedia in Italian, you are told he is devoted to Padre Pio, a devout Catholic.

Seeing that he ordered all the Churches in the country to stop celebrating publicly the Sacraments, I think I have a right to doubt Wikipedia.

Wikipedia also says he is divorced from his wife, Valentina Fico, and father to an only son, Nicola, now 12 years old.

His association with Freemasonry is perhaps certain.

(Nota bene: Abysum has slightly edited this post.)

He was in 1992 invited as a legal scholar to teach at Yale University, as a visiting professor.  Yale is the University known for its Masonic Lodge which has put numerous members in high positions of power: Bush senior and junior, Bill Clinton, John Kerry.  I speak of Skull & Bones. To get invited to teach to Yale is much more a political honor than an academic one.

I have visited Yale Campus several times. The Building of the Skull & Bones society has windows which are all bricked up. Not everyone who attends Yale is associated with them. They are a very elite invitation only group.

It has been rumored on campus since the 1950’s, when my own father studied for a Masters in Electrical Engineering there, that the members of Skull & Bones are all closeted gays. And that to become a member you have to do something obscene in the presence of the other members, who use that as leverage over you for the rest of your life.

Giuseppe Conte, prior to assuming the role of Prime Minister (technically called, Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri), was also a professor as the La Luiss School at Rome, a university teaching business and politics, founded by the most influential bankers of Italy, rumored to have Rothschilds’ connections through the family of the founder of the School.

But more significantly, as a boy, he studied as the Villa Nazareth Preparatory School at Rome, founded by Cardinal Achille Silvestrini, who is known as a key figure in Freemasonry at the Vatican. Silvestrini accompanied Cardinal Cassaroli on his infamous trip to Moscow, which bought the silence of the Catholic Church on Communism, in exchange for participation at Vatican II by prelates of the Moscow Patriarchate.

This preparatory school was dedicated to raising up key Left wing politicians who could garner the Catholic vote in Italy: Prodi, Matarella, Scalfaro, Andreotti etc.. Giuseppe Conte is just the lastest famous alumni. When Cardinal Silvestrini passed away, Conte left his important duties in Parliament to attend his funeral.

This personal history of Conte, in reverse, seems to indicate who has been promoting his career from the start. It goes without saying that Jorge Mario Bergoglio — whose own intelligence head in Argentina says is a Freemason — and Giuseppe Conte see eye to eye on every important political position that Conte has taken.

A sign, alas, of why things are as they are, and why the Main Stream Media is behind Conte 100%.

HARD FACTS CONFIRM CORONA VIRUS IS THREAT TO HIGH RISK PATIENTS ADVANCED IN AGE

FROM ROME EDITOR

by Br. Alexis Bugnolo

The facts continue to discount the hype. We are being told constantly that Coronavirus 19 is a lethal pest which will kill tens of millions, and that extreme measures should be taken.

But the hard facts belie this, though few medical professionals are admitting it.

In a recent paper in a peer reviewed medical journal, Remuzzi & Remuzzi published statistical data about corona virus 19, which helps everyone put in better perspective the real challenges it poses to Italy and other nations.

Confirming what I had observed hidden in the data at hand yesterday, Remuzzi & Remuzzi admit in their paper that the majority of patients who die from Coronavirus 19 are in fact persons already at high risk on account of other medical conditions:

Italy has had 12 462 confirmed cases according to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità as of March 11, and 827 deaths. Only China has recorded more deaths due to this COVID-19 outbreak. The mean age of those who died in Italy was 81 years and more than two-thirds of these patients had diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, or cancer, or were former smokers. It is therefore true that these patients had underlying health conditions, but it is also worth noting that they had acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia, needed respiratory support, and would not have died otherwise. Of the patients who died, 42·2% were aged 80–89 years, 32·4% were aged 70–79 years, 8·4% were aged 60–69 years, and 2·8% were aged 50–59 years (those aged >90 years made up 14·1%). The male to female ratio is 80% to 20% with an older median age for women (83·4 years for women vs 79·9 years for men).

First, look at the mean age of those dying of Coronavirus: 81.  Mean age, means that there is an equal number of those older as younger who are affected.  Thus we are dealing with an illness which is targeting only a minority of the population.

Second, more than two-thirds of these patients had diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, or cancer, or were former smokers, as Remuzzi & Rremuzzi admit. This means also, that Coronavirus is 1/3 as much a threat to healthy persons as to non healthy ones.

From these two facts we can see that for those under 50, the threat of mortality is going to be very minor indeed, and that even there, only those with serious medical conditions are threatened.

Also, 80% of those who succumb are men. Therefore, women have 25% of the risk men have for this virus! Men tend to be the smokers, and so we can begin to guess what the real problem is, those who have any risk factor which inhibits breathing or oxygenation of the lungs..

However, let me restate the break down by age, given by Remuzzi & Remuzzi for those who died of Coronavirus 19:

  • 90+ years of age: 14.1%
  • 80-89 years old: 42.1%
  • 70-79 years old: 32.4%
  • 60-69 years old: 8.4%
  • 50-59 years old: 2.8%

These statistics show that for nearly half the demographic by age, the Corona Virus poses little threat, because the remaining morality is:

  • 0-49 years old: 0.2%

So the hype about closing public schools is pure hype, no statistical reality to it. What they should be doing is quarantining every elderly care facility! And every elderly person with known conditions for risk factors.

PLEASE NOTE that these percentages are NOT mortality rates of the whole population, but merely an age description of those who do finally succumb. You cannot extend those rates to the whole population of those age groups!  So Just because you are 70-79% does not mean your risk is 32.4%! See my previous article about the real risks.

From statistics in Italy regarding the risk factors mentioned by Remuzzi & Remuzzi, we can see that the cancer is probably lung cancer, and I will assume the diabetes is Diabetes Mellitus.  Thus each year of these, 150 thousand persons die in Italy.  That is 150 times the current number of victims of Coronavirus 19 in Italy.  Italy however does not ban smoking, so I suppose some deaths are more politically exploitable than others.

The real revelation of the Remuzzi & Remuzzi study is that what is more likely to kill more Italians is the socialized health care system which does not have the ability to rapidly respond to the need for hospital beds. But that the press won’t talk about, because that is what the revolution is all about: killing citizens by neglect and then blaming it on Catholics holding Mass.

However, though death from Coronavirus 19 does result from respiratory pneumonia, there is yet no evidence that the virus arrives in the lungs by coughing, and it has not been found in airborne particles. Thus, the presumed carrier is hand to mouth. So wash your hands regularly especially after returning from outside, and if you have one of these health conditions, take extreme precautions.

And if the read spread of Coronavirus 19 is by hand to mouth, then we can expect even lower rates of mortality in rural areas and smaller towns where there is less frequent social contacts. And this means that the spread of the virus can be stopped, not by national quarantines or shutting down Churches, but by using hand sanitizer as frequently as possible in public places.

Coronavirus: Italian doctors face allocation crisis

by Michael Cook |

15 Mar 2020 |

Nowhere have the ethical conundrums faced by doctors during the coronavirus pandemic been more clearly sketched than in Italy. The whole country is in lockdown after a slow start on quarantine measures allowed the disease to spread quickly. For some reason, perhaps just statistical, the death rate thereappears to be far higher than in China or other countries – about 5%, compared to a world rate of about 3.4%.

However, what is clear is that Italy’s hospitals are struggling under the load of seriously ill patients. More than 1000 have died and there are not enough ventilators to treat patients with acute breathing difficulties.

This has prompted an extraordinary call by the Italian College of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (SIAARTI) to implement a system of triage, or healthcare rationing. If a patient appeared too sick to benefit from a ventilator, doctors would let him die so that they could care for other sick patients.

Out the window goes the “first in, first served” principle. In a time of “castastrophe medicine”, they argue, utilitarian principles must be followed.”It may become necessary to establish an age limit for access to intensive care.

This is not a value judgment but a way to provide extremely scarce resources to those who have the highest likelihood of survival and could enjoy the largest number of life-years saved…”This is informed by the principle of maximizing benefits for the largest number.

In case of a total saturation of resources, maintaining the criterion of ‘first come, first served’ would amount to a decision to exclude late-arriving patients from access to intensive care.”In other words, patients over, say, 80, or patients who have other medical conditions like diabetes or heart failure, would be left to die

At the moment this is only the gloomy prognostication of a handful of utilitarian-minded doctors. But the argument will surface again and again if conditions worsen.A bioethicist in Milan, at the heart of the epidemic, Michele Aramini, of the Catholic University of Milan, told Avvenire:In exceptionally serious moments such as these, one can deviate from normal practice but without ever losing sight of the general horizon. I mean that first of all every effort must be asked and made to increase the places in the wards. If this is not enough, doctors must evaluate the situation case by case in multidisciplinary teams, and not alone with the yardstick of criteria established a priori.

All people always retain the right to be treated. However, extreme measures must be suspended as soon as possible in order not to create new substitute practices for those which have always inspired the conduct of specialists. And, writing in the Sydney Morning Herald, bioethicist Xavier Symons (also deputy editor of BioEdge, emphasised that a utilitarian, however useful in emergencies, should not reinforce stigma and discrimination:But while rationing on the basis of capacity to benefit may be inevitable, health authorities – and, indeed, society generally – have a grave duty to avoid endorsing ageist and ableist prejudice in the discourse surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.
