“A Lefebvre Moment”: Why is it that Defenders of Catholic Tradition can be Excommunicated by Canon Law while Mass Killing Politicians like Pro-Abort Biden and Hitler can’t?

Pope Francis Latest - Brace Yourself... - Catholic Truth

“As for the use of the 1962 Missal as a ‘Forma extraordinaria’ of the liturgy of the Mass, I would like to draw attention to the fact that this Missal was never juridically abrogated and, consequently, in principle, was always permitted.” – Pope Benedict XVI in LETTER FROM POPE TO BISHOPS ON “SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM” VATICAN CITY, JUL 7, 2007

One thing you could say for the Vatican’s position in 1976 was that there was an uncontestedly legitimate pope who ordered Lefebvre to refrain from the traditional ordination of priests. The same cannot be said for 2022.

Even if Bergoglio were pope, his orders to block the traditional Mass and sacraments are just as invalid, assuming for a moment they were drafted in accordance with the law. His censures are equally invalid should they be issued for a priest, prelate or layman making use of his right to the Mass and Sacraments. Lastly, Bergoglio’s motives are so more obvious in their hatred for the Mass, the Sacraments, the faithful, and Him of Whom he claims to be vicar…

… This is 1976. But really it isn’t. A Lefebvre moment is being forced on us in 2022. it starts in Chicago on February 6. It will occur worldwide by Midsummer. Let us remain faithful to Christ and to His sacraments. Let us respond with at least as much courage as Lefebvre showed in 1976.

This is the reality, whether Bergoglio or Pope Benedict XVI is pope. That question need not divide us nor cause us to waver. The prohibition against the Mass is invalid either way. But I would add this could very well be the perfect time to bring that question to a head for the good of souls. The time has come to acknowledge, and come to the aid of Pope Benedict XVI. That would save the Mass, and so much more. – St. Louis Catholic website said we are presently in “a Lefebvre moment”

In 2019, Canon lawyer Ed Peters was basically saying the new canon law makes it nearly impossible to excommunicate politicians like a Andrew Cuomo, Joe Biden or a Adolf Hitler.

On a more important note: if the new canon law makes it nearly impossible to excommunicate anyone even a Cuomo, Biden or a Hitler, does this mean that Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and Francis critic Fr. Alessandro Maria Minutella were never excommunicated?

Why is it that defenders of Catholic orthodoxy and tradition can be excommunicated by canon law while mass killing Joe Biden-like politicians like Cuomo and Hitler can’t?

But getting back to the first point, Peters in his 2019 excommunication article on Cardinal Timothy Dolan needs presently to more forcefully restate what he said back then on Canon 915 about Cuomo and other pro-abortion politicians like Joe Biden not receiving Communion:

“Canon 915 … requires… action… alerts an individual about his or her morally gravely dangerous public conduct, to protect the faith community from scandal… Are these not the key goals sought by those calling for … Cuomo’s excommunication?.. why try to purse those goals with a cumbersome penal institute such as excommunication when Canon 915 is sitting in front of us?”

“In short, has not Canon 915’s moment, at last, arrived.”
(Canon Law Blog, “Canon 915’s moment has arrived,” January 25, 2018)

Canon 915 says:

Those “who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to Communion.”

Spokane Bishop Thomas Daly in 2019 used Canon 915 to declared to pro-abortion politicians that they “should not” receive Communion in his diocese.

I hope that Peters will again as he did in 2019 say forcefully that Dolan should Canon 915 Cuomo and Biden.

Getting back to Archbishop Lefebvre, the St. Louis Catholic website said this is “a Lefebvre moment”:

As it turns out, the claim that Lefebvre saved the traditional Mass (which retains its obvious merit) makes way more sense to me now. Not because of 1988. But because of 1976. Wait, 1976, you ask? Let me explain.

The issue involved the ability of a bishop of the Catholic Church being able to ordain priests in an approved Catholic rite of priestly ordination. The traditional Mass had not been abrogated, nor had the rite of priestly ordination. But Pope Paul VI forbade Lefebvre from ordaining the priests in the traditional rite. He didn’t forbid their ordinations, but just the use of the traditional rite of ordination.

Does this sound familiar?

Archbishop Lefebvre judged that he had the right to ordain these priests in the traditional manner. As Pope Benedict confirmed in Summorum Pontificum, he did indeed. But Pope Paul VI declared him and his priests suspended a divinis. Because he judged he was in the right legally and morally, Archbishop Lefebvre continued to ordain traditional priests and always maintained that the suspensions were illegitimate and invalid. It was this action, much more than in 1988, that one can claim that Lefebvre saved the Mass, in a manner of speaking (Our Lord is Sovereign and responsible for all good). He died without knowing whether his position would be vindicated.

You could say that it is 1976 again for traditional societies and institutes previously under the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. The Vatican has said traditional priestly ordinations are no longer possible. The FSSP, ICRSP and others have lots of vocations and of course have ordinations scheduled this year. And some bishops, like the odious Cardinal Cupich, have forbidden even traditional societies from celebrating the traditional Mass on the first Sunday of every month and on high holy days, beginning February 6. A watershed moment awaits.

Lastly, Bergoglio’s motives are so more obvious in their hatred for the Mass, the Sacraments, the faithful, and Him of Whom he claims to be vicar.

Fr. Laguerie of the IBP stated it very well that we must simply persevere in our lawful adherence to the traditional Mass and sacraments. That there must be a continuation of everything the traditional societies have been doing already. Father notes what lots of us sense— he hears of none of his confreres who will cave into the unjust forcing of the novus ordo onto traditional priests. The traditional laity have their back and will not betray faithful priests. There is a large traditional community.

We are in the right.

This is 1976.

That would save the Mass, and so much more.[https://stlouiscatholic.wordpress.com/2022/01/22/we-are-approaching-our-lefebvre-moment-but-not-the-one-you-think/]

Pray an Our Father now for reparation for the sins committed because of Francis’s Amoris Laetitia.

Pray an Our Father now for the restoration of the Church as well as the Triumph of the Kingdom of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.

Francis Notes:

– Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church in such a situation:

“[T]he Pope… WHEN he is EXPLICITLY a heretic, he falls ipso facto from his dignity and out of the Church, and the Church MUST either deprive him, or, as some say, declare him deprived, of his Apostolic See.”
(The Catholic Controversy, by St. Francis de Sales, Pages 305-306)

Saint Robert Bellarmine, also, said “the Pope heretic is not deposed ipso facto, but must be declared deposed by the Church.”

Show them the proof of Your Mercy.Help them to become open of heart and to show true humility, in honour of Your great Sacrifice, by Your Death on the Cross, when You died for their sins.Help them to discern Who their True Maker is, Who their Creator is, and fill them with the Graces to see the Truth. Please prevent their plans to hurt millions of people through vaccinations, shortage of foods, forced adoptions of innocent children, and the splitting up of families from taking place. Heal them. Cover them with Your Light and take them into the Bosom of Your Heart to save them from the snares of the evil one. Amen.”  And here are two more that I am drawn to very much these days. Crusade Prayer (85) to save the United States of America from the hand of the deceiverSaturday, November 17th, 2012 @ 19:00 “O dear Jesus, cover our nation with Your Most Precious Protection. Forgive us our sins against God’s Commandments.Help the American people to turn back to God. Amen.”  Your Jesus(WOW!!!!!!!!  I have constructed a ‘END TIMES’ Chaplet that I pray daily, based on the contents of different Crusade Prayers.  When the Divine Mercy Chaplet would normally have us recite “For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have Mercy on us…” on the Hail Mary beads, I recite: “We implore You, dear God, to intervene and stop evil from engulfing the world at this time.”  Every single time I recite this, my heart is filled with complete Faith, Confidence, and Trust that God will respond as requested. After all, He would not give us a prayer He did not fully intend, and desire to answer! The Warning will be this intervention…and it will bring Billions back to God.May we all drop to our knees and ask forgiveness for our sins.God bless you!  I am richly blessed to know you.  David B.  From Cybersex to Child Sacrifice: New GFA World Report Probes ‘Children in Crisis’ From U.S. border to South Asia, 1.2 billion children face ‘horrors,’ exploitation on sickening scale WILLS POINT, Texas — America’s humanitarian border crisis is featured in a shocking new report that examines the horrors facing the world’s children in 2022. Many migrant boys and girls fall prey to human traffickers, smugglers, and drug cartels en route to the U.S., according to the report “Children in Crisis: The World’s Greatest ‘Badge of Shame’” (http://www.gfa.org/press/KidsCrisis) by Texas-based humanitarian agency GFA World (www.gfa.org). The report highlights a terrifying U.S. Border Patrol video that shows human smugglers dropping sisters – 3 and 5 years old from Ecuador – over a 14-foot section of the border fence in the New Mexico desert. The smugglers ran off, leaving the young girls alone in the dark. The border situation, says the report, is a “stark reminder” that children are “in crisis right on our doorstep … wherever we live in the world. And the problem is growing worse.” Situation CriticalThe report estimates 1.2 billion children worldwide are vulnerable to a host of calamities, including abuse, hunger and diseases. It’s a “toxic combination” driven largely by poverty and supercharged by the pandemic, the report says. Among the horrors are child slavery, sexual exploitation – including the online cybersex industry – and even child sacrifice. In Uganda, a young mother found the headless body of her 17-month-old son in a shallow grave. The child’s killer turned out to be his own father who was paid $2,000 by a businessman in return for the boy’s head, the report says. It’s believed the child’s head was considered by him to be a “good luck” charm. The report highlights the following disturbing facts:30-35% of sex workers in the Mekong sub-region of Southeast Asia are 12-17 years oldMexico’s social service agency reports more than 16,000 children engage in prostitution, mostly in tourist destinations20-50% of prostitutes in Lithuania are believed to be children – sometimes as young as 11 – and orphans have been exploited to make pornographic moviesNorth Korean girls, some as young as 9, are forced to perform sex acts in front of webcams, live-streamed to paying customers worldwide “GFA World is helping children escape poverty and protect themselves against such vile abuse and atrocities,” said the organization’s founder K.P. Yohannan, also known as Metropolitan Yohan. “Unless we act now to protect all children and show them God’s love is real, the consequences will be unforgivable.” ### GFA World (www.gfa.org) is a leading faith-based global mission agency helping national workers bring vital assistance and spiritual hope to millions across the world, especially in Asia and Africa, and sharing the love of God. In GFA World’s latest yearly report, this included thousands of community development projects that benefit downtrodden families and their children, free medical camps conducted in more than 1,200 villages and remote communities, over 4,800 clean water wells drilled, over 12,000 water filters installed, income-generating Christmas gifts for more than 260,000 needy families, and teaching providing hope and encouragement in 110 languages in 14 nations through radio ministry. ‘Devastated’ Traditional Latin Mass devotees petition Arlington bishop to ease restrictions

By Christine Rousselle

Washington, D.C. Newsroom, Jan 18, 2022 / 17:17 pm

Supporters of the Traditional Latin Mass are petitioning Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Virginia, to lift restrictions he recently imposed on the celebration of the sacraments in the Extraordinary Form.

“In the spirit of the Synodal Path that the church has embarked upon, we humbly ask that you engage in consultations with the faithful of each parish church potentially affected by restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass,” says the petition, which was published on the petition website Change.org on Jan. 14.

“And we pray fervently that you might offer permission to allow the Extraordinary Form and other traditional sacraments to continue across the Diocese of Arlington.”

The petition had garnered more than 1,000 signatures by 6 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Jan. 18.https://8b5971cef31e0e1a0db4efa2a5e6980f.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

The Diocese of Arlington is one of the two Catholic dioceses in Virginia. Its territory covers the northern part of the state. Twenty-one of the diocese’s 70 parishes offer the Latin Mass, one of the highest percentages among U.S. dioceses.

In early January, Burbidge issued a statement concerning the celebration of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form in the diocese. While Burbidge did not restrict any of the existing Latin Masses in the diocese, he said there is to be no “scheduling of new celebrations of the Sacraments (such as baptisms and weddings) in the Extraordinary Form.”

“Those which have already been scheduled are permitted to continue as planned,” said Burbidge.

Burbidge issued his directive as a response to the “responsa ad dubia” published by the Vatican on Dec. 18. Among the things listed in the responsa, the Divine Worship congregation said that, according to Traditionis custodes, sacraments cannot be celebrated using the liturgical books Rituale Romanum and the Pontificale Romanum promulgated prior to the Vatican II reforms.

In a letter to bishops accompanying Traditionis custodes, Pope Francis said that the celebration of the Latin Mass “is often characterized by a rejection not only of the liturgical reform, but of the Vatican Council II itself, claiming, with unfounded and unsustainable assertions, that it betrayed the Tradition and the ‘true Church.’”

The pope also lamented that communities dedicated to the Latin Mass had “exploited to widen the gaps, reinforce the divergences, and encourage disagreements that injure the Church, block her path, and expose her to the peril of division.”https://8b5971cef31e0e1a0db4efa2a5e6980f.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

The petition says those characterizations do not apply “in any way” in the Arlington Diocese.

“Traditional Latin Mass attendees in this diocese are marked by deep reverence and love for the Church and a burning desire to live our Catholic faith as fully as possible, not a sense of disunity and schism,” it continues.

The petition adds that the laity have been “devastated” at the new restrictions, and that there is a “profound sense of loss and grief at the prospect of losing the ability to celebrate the Mass and other sacraments in the Old Rite.”

“At a time when there is so much darkness and despair in the world and in our country, we find the Extraordinary Form of the Mass to be a beacon of light and hope — one which touches our hearts and nourishes our Catholic Faith,” says the petition.

The petition was started by Noah Peters, a parishioner at St. John the Beloved in McLean, Virginia. “Peters converted to Catholicism from Judaism in 2020, and his wife was baptized and received into full communion that same year.

After seeing “YouTube traditionalists” discuss the Latin Mass, Peters, 36-year-old lawyer living in Fairfax, was steered in the direction of a parish in the Diocese of Arlington. He said his first experience seeing the Latin Mass in 2019 “blew me away,” and that “any doubt about converting went away immediately.”

While he had attended the Novus Ordo before, and found it to be “fine, perhaps a bit rote,” he thought “there was something special about the TLM.”

When Traditionis custodes was released in July, Peters and his wife were in marriage preparation. He told CNA he was “shocked” by the motu proprio. They were married, in the Extraordinary Form, in October 2021.

“[My wife and I] were totally confused as to why the Vatican would focus on this at a time when the Catholic church is suffering from such a decrease in Mass attendance and belief,” he said. That feeling later became a sense of powerlessness, he said.

“This petition was born of trying to overcome that awful feeling,” explained Peters. He hopes to “give voice to all the people who love the traditional Mass in Arlington” through the petition drive.

Peters plans on personally handing Burbidge a printout of the signed petition.

“I am sympathetic to him because he is being placed in an impossible position,” he said, noting that he and his predecessors had helped the diocese become a hub for the traditional Mass.

“Now he has pressure to go suddenly in reverse,” said Peters. “That is why he asked for our prayers.” The petition, Peters said, reflects those prayers from Catholics in the diocese.

But for Peters, another motivation is looking ahead to the future. Namely, his own future generations.

TODAY MARKS THE BEGINNING OF CORAC’S NEW FUNDRAISING DRIVE

Print allBy Charlie JohnstonToday begins our CORAC fundraising drive that will carry through February 11 – both the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes and the beginning of my walking pilgrimage some 11 years ago now.I spent some of last week going through the archives from this site over the last year and a half. It is quite astonishing how far we have come at CORAC in the past 12 months. A year ago at this time, we were still getting our feet on the ground, getting technical and administrative things in place. Of course, we were only five months old at the time. In the year since then, hundreds of people have taken our free homeopathy classes. I have put in a small cache of critical medical  supplies, which we have distributed on an emergency basis when the need is identified. Shoot, on Christmas Eve I got an emergency call from a small religious order in crisis and we got the needed supplies out to them the next day. We have put together a national ham radio network – and do a simple broadcast each week to prepare the system if needed. We focus on ham radios because the government cannot shut them down as it can the internet and cellular service. Our prayer teams have expanded to include acting as ambassadors for CORAC. Our sustainability committee focuses on home and frontier skills to help people both survive and thrive where they are at should a crisis arise, up to and including a complete breakdown. We have several critical priorities for the coming year. One of the things I am looking at is to get an economic clearing house in place to help people connect with companies and small businesses that are committed to faith, family and freedom along with us. There are several entities that are busy mounting “alternative economies.” I am not looking to compete with them, rather to ally with them and serve as a clearing house where people can easily go to find such companies to buy from or work for. Frankly, I suspect that huge dislocations are liable to be coming before the end of the year. Already, some food markets in the northeast have started posting signs encouraging shoppers not to buy more than they normally would, even though many critical items are not there to begin with because of the increasing damage to the supply chain. We need to get people able to fend for themselves – and that is always much easier when they are working collaboratively with others who are doing the same.I also want to get people to start thinking in an analog fashion again in our digital world. Even in the area of communications, while digital technologies are very precise and clear, they are something of a hothouse plant – much more vulnerable to the elements than the much hardier (but less precise) analog technologies. You need to have some paper maps and know how to read them, to be able to communicate in cursive writing, to have hard copies of critical documents and information rather than mere digital access, to have a woodburning backup to your heating and cooking systems. If, miraculously, everything smoothed out and all was okay again, these types of preparation would do no harm to anyone and just serve as a redundancy. If, on the other hand, things continue on the road to collapse, these types of skills and preparations could well be the key to survival. Again, as I have since I started writing, I strongly discourage you from going full “survivalist;” rather I want you to make prudent preparations that you can afford. Regaining “analog” skills that have atrophied in our modern digital society costs little – and will be useful whatever happens. For me, learning new skills and keeping my loaded backpack close at hand will remain the only preparations I make. For all the legal, technical, administrative and web costs, we manage on about $11,000 per month. We need to keep it going even as we expand the services we work together to provide. Won’t you join us in making the most generous donation you can? I know, I know, like every other institution, we depend on our donors to keep going – and so have to make a new push every few months. Hey, you guys are smart. If you know you are supportive of CORAC, you might figure out how much you can give for the year and divide it up into parcels to be spread throughout the year – on a quarterly basis, say, or, heaven love you, on a monthly basis.I regret that our last appeal got a bit muddled because of my rather serious bout with Covid. Though I still have some minor challenges on that front, I also now have super-duper-califragilistic immunity, so I do not expect such an interruption again. Meantime, for all you wonderful monthly donors, I will make arrangements to get the CORAC Rosaries into the mail to you over the next month. Thank you for your patience.*********As I perused the archives of the last year and a half, several things jumped out at me. On the issue of Covid and the Covid shots, if you were reading this site regularly, you got information that has held up over time. That is because here, we actually follow the science and the data, rather than following anyone’s cheap or panicked narrative. Last week, a fellow who has known me for decades told me that I was the most “scientific” person he ever knew – and that he knew it decades ago. As science is not my strong suit and something I have to work at to get right, I was rather startled and told him so. He replied that what he meant was that, in everything, I never just chose a narrative to follow and then cherry-pick data to support it, but always amass data and evidence – then follow where that leads boldly and candidly. It was a nice compliment – and his explanation describes well what I have tried to make my method throughout my life. Read through the archives of the last year and a half to see that I was very accurately describing where we were heading both with Covid and politically all along. That is important to give you confidence as we go forward that here, at least, you are getting factual information – and analysis that plays out well historically.A couple of other rules I use in developing analysis. If an “expert” seeks to counter contrary arguments against him by silencing his opponent, he is not an expert at all, but a mere propagandist. Truth will stand the test of examination; propaganda will not. So I dismiss out of hand ANYONE whose primary tactic is to silence opposing views. That is pretty much our whole government and media complex now. It is utterly bizarre to me that a cohort of 20-somethings who have little training in anything (what the great Rush Limbaugh used to call “young skulls full of mush”) have suddenly become the arbiters of what is accurate and what is misinformation in our society. My friends, truth will stand the test of examination – and if you are not willing to undergo that test, you are not interested in truth, only seizing power on the cheap. It was on December 23, 2020 when I first publicly said I thought it likely the Covid shots would become the greatest medical disaster in history. Right now, athletes in their prime who have taken the shot are dropping dead at the rate of two or three a week – and public health officials are saying it is just a coincidence. In heavily vaccinated Scotland, scientists are disturbed to find data suggesting that the more shots people have had, the more likely they are to get Covid. The heavily vaccinated country of Israel is one of the worst Covid hotspots in the world right now. Fortunately, despite the panic porn so beloved by the media and public officials, Covid is not the Black Plague. I certainly encourage you to check and double-check every piece of information you get, for the biggest purveyors of misinformation have been our media and public health officials. A method I have used a lot over my lifetime is to look at the historical record of entities that present information for accuracy. Those who have taken pains to get it right usually will continue to do so. (That is part of why I encourage you to read the archives of this site from the past year and a half). Even in those cases, though, you need to spot check to make sure the standards remain high.Last year, a few days after the protest rally in D.C. on Jan. 6, I caught a whole lot of flack (including from more than a few conservatives) for this piece I wrote. It has held up quite well, I think. It is utterly bizarre to me that what was a genuinely “mostly peaceful” protest – in which a tiny sliver of the crowd got way too rowdy is being condemned as an “insurrection” while the violent riots of the 20’s are still being treated as righteous protests. Wayne Allyn Root has gotten to the heart of the political battle in America right now. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Sunday that members of the fraudulent House J-6 Committee could go to jail for their flagrant abuses of basic civil rights. We have a lot of wood to chop.*********While perusing the archives I came upon this piece, entitled “Living Springs,” that I published on Dec. 15, 2020. I like it and think it a good way to spiritually gird your loins. I abhor the misinformation and gaslighting that is constantly coming from the dying establishment as it frantically tries to hold on to power, but I deeply dislike the actual misinformation that comes from people who, if they were dedicated to truth and accuracy, would be my allies. If I hear one more person say that there is no such thing as Covid, I may scream. (Of course, I have done that frequently from the privacy of my own room). A child often tells tales that, while false, do reflect his actual fears. Put away childish things. An adult should not glom onto every cockamamie thing they hear that attacks something they really know to be bad or evil: that does not serve to further discredit the evil, but only to discredit the person making false claims. “Test all things; hold fast to what is good.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21. I reprint Living Springs below, in hopes it may help us all to gird our loins for the trials ahead: By Charlie JohnstonFor many years I puzzled over the enigma of Judas Iscariot. Why would he betray Christ and then hang himself when Christ was given up to the power of corrupted men? None of the forced pious explanations satisfied me. When I am contemplating a story from the Bible, I like to immerse myself in the story, to try to see it as the people there saw it, to find the internal logic that motivates the participants in each drama. When I was a kid, I liked to follow mountain streams up to their source. Contemplating the Bible in this manner is similar. For every tale, there is a coherent, internal logic that brings the lesson into crisper relief. Sometimes the point is not what we initially think it is. Of course, Scripture is like a precious stone with many facets. I don’t think we ever see them all, and so when someone says they know what a particular passage means, they actually have grasped a single facet of it. Scripture is rich, dense and deep. But there is always a fundamental internal logic to a story if we look at the characters as real people and contemplate it.Finally, just after I was received into the Church, I contemplated an explanation that satisfied my objections – and brightly illuminated the story for me in a way I had not previously thought of. I think Judas firmly believed that Jesus was the Messiah. All of Israel had expected the Messiah to be a warrior king, including Judas. After traipsing around the desert for three years, I think Judas lost patience and decided to force Jesus’ hand. He thought that if he put Jesus in a desperate situation, it would force Him to reveal His mighty power. Things did not go the way Judas expected. When he saw Jesus handed over to the authorities to face the judgment of men, Judas despaired over two things. First, he had betrayed innocent blood – and since Jesus did not reveal His mighty power immediately, Judas stopped believing He was the Messiah. I don’t think Judas’ great sin was the betrayal of Jesus. Rather, I think it was threefold. First, he sought to supplant whatever Jesus’ plan was with his own. Second, He could not conceive of Jesus having a fundamentally different plan than his own. Finally, he despaired when his plan did not come to fruition as he had intended it. The fundamental sin was that Judas never had any real faith in Jesus except to be the strong instrument to carry out Judas’ plan – which he thought was the only possible plan. He didn’t wait long enough to see that Christ’s power extended even over death. For over 40 years, my method of analysis has not been dependent on a particular scenario, whether dealing with temporal or spiritual things. I long ago lost the illusion that I can ever know what, precisely, is going to happen. Rather, I deal in contingencies. After getting intimately familiar with the lay of the land, I come up with potential scenarios and go into an “if-then” sequence for each of them. On critical matters, I usually come up with about a dozen potential scenarios in my mind. When dealing with a specific client, I will give two or three main potential scenarios and how to address them. In addressing them, I generally give the probable benefits and shortfalls of each approach, along with my recommended approach (and I candidly address the probable benefits and shortfalls of that one, too). Even with this method, a good 30-40 percent of the time the reality is significantly different from what I expected. Yet the effort in putting it together this way both prepares me better for the unexpected and prevents me from becoming wedded to a particular scenario. I am occasionally wrong in my expectations, but I am rarely ambushed by the unexpected. A big part of what my clients have most valued about me is that, whatever happens, I almost always have a ready approach. Sounds like a know-it-all, doesn’t it? But the reality is that a know-it-all could never do this, for they are too vested in believing in their own superior knowledge to plan for contingencies. They already know what is going to happen, so why bother with so much labor to prepare for things they know are not going to happen. One of the best things that ever happened to me was my candid abandonment of the illusion that I already knew what was actually contingent and, thus, could only be known by God. It doesn’t stop me from devising strategy and tactics, but keeps me from getting vested in any. It is a way to develop strong muscles that are also supple. And it helps prevent me from committing the sin of Judas.People ask me sometimes if I am still receiving messages – and if so, why I do not reveal them. Even when I was speaking openly about such things, I said that it was only until the heavy sequence of events began, for when that happened, it was no longer time for me to tickle the ears with messages, but time to act – to humbly acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to those around us. What we think we know will avail us little; it is what we do under God that will be decisive. The fact is I have never seen my mission as propounding messages, though for a time it was necessary. I have always believed my mission is to help hearten people that we can make our stand under God, no matter how difficult things seemed, and become heralds of the great renewal to come with the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. To defend the faith, hearten the faithful, and defend the faithful. I actually hated speaking of prophetic things. I much preferred giving good, but very fallible, counsel. Wisdom is its own justification – and if the counsel I gave was wise, it would find fertile ground because of that. I did not want to become one of the chorus of those who compel people by claiming a special pipeline to God. My message has always been that God is close to YOU – and accessible to you when you devote yourselves to acknowledging Him, taking the next right step and being a sign of hope. I can offer counsel, but I cannot be anyone’s guru – and too many seekers who put emphasis on such things are looking for a way to escape their humble moral responsibility for the choices they make before God. The primary (actually the only) reason that I spoke publicly about such spiritual things was that, by telling you true of what was to come and what it would look like, it would build credibility for when I told you that this was not the end – a message that would be critical when all the institutions we counted on had collapsed and all was in chaos and confusion. Even that, I did fumblingly. Oh, I got the landscape right – a global civil war fought on cultural lines and a collapse marked by the complete loss of confidence in our vital mediating institutions. But I fumbled on the timing and the details of how it would come about. That, too, was a blessing, for it helped prepare each of you who, like me, will be wrong about many things, to accept your errors, take responsibility for them, and forge ahead anyway. I have had both public and private direction from my Archbishop – and that, too, has been a blessing. On occasion, I have chafed a bit, but his occasional direction has been wise and well-considered. I am thankful for the fidelity and charity of Archbishop Aquila.Knowing that I am going to be wrong about some things, but not knowing which, I am largely open to competing theories on what must come. If someone offers wise words and good counsel, whether they are the same as mine or not, I generally leave them here without comment. There are only a few things I get prickly about. I strongly reject any notion that this is the end. I get very sensitive to anything that would beguile people into thinking that they will not have to make their stand and both publicly and boldly declare themselves. I fear that is the sort of false hope that could lead many to despair or destruction. The fundamental things I live by are: “Be not afraid. God calls all men to salvation,” and “Acknowledge God, take the next right step, and be a sign of hope to those around you.” I know people want more, but that is sufficient – the things I have developed over decades. Contemplate those deeply in light of the Lord and you have all you need to find your path forward – and I don’t see why you should have it any easier than I have all these years. But no, my interior life has not changed in any significant way.It is not just in what I have said and written that I have tried to keep faith and prepare. In the late 90’s I told my Priests that my understanding was that if I accepted my mission, I would be quickly plunged into a prolonged period of intense suffering to prepare me for the vicissitudes that would come later. Whether it was imagination or not, just a few months after accepting it fully, I was plunged into five years of intense strife and struggle. I do not like to discuss it, but perhaps someday I will have to. (I would prefer that, on that, in the end one of the three witnesses who were there for the duration describe it). It took me once to the brink of despair. Sometimes, when things seemed too tough to bear, I would ask for relief and then catch myself, asking rather that God give me strength to bear it and more. It ended with my life-threatening neurological injury. I have not had a minute without significant pain since 9:03 a.m. Central Time on Good Friday in 2003. That was when something broke in me – and I could feel it when it happened. It was two months before I was able to receive the surgery that restored fluid to my spinal cord – and by that time, I was told that the best-case scenario would be that I would be, at least, partially paralyzed on my right side. Months after the surgery, wondering how long it would be until the pain subsided, my neurologist told me it might never subside – that his tests showed I should not be able to walk at all, so my system had unusual resilience but the pain might be a constant feature. So it has been. One of my Priests prayed intensely that I be healed of the pain. I asked him to stop. I noted I could still walk and do things – and the pain served as a sort of integrated hair shirt that I could always offer up for others and in penance for my own sins. The only thing I really hate about it is how easily I am fatigued. I don’t like to speak of the details of it, but it may come in handy sometime. If many are suffering, I may be able to hearten them with my own sufferings and how one can endure and even find joy in the midst of them – and I chose it.There were many blessings from my pilgrimage, walking across the country. I left with $50 in my pocket and a laptop in my backpack on which I could write little pieces for a content studio at libraries on my way and get paid $15 a piece for them on a cash card. That and the generosity of the people I met along the way was mainly how I financed my walk. It occurred to me during that pilgrimage that, if the time came when some people were displaced from their homes, I could speak comfort to them as a fellow traveler who chose extended homelessness when it was not necessary – and that they, too, can both survive and thrive. For a full  decade I have lived poverty – and often like to joke that I got fat in the process. When people lose much of the material things they have, I can assure them as a fellow traveler that the only reliable wealth any of us have is God, our family, and our friends. If times get hard enough that I have to offer these reassurances, I will not be speaking as one who has lived great comfort to the poor and benighted. Rather, I will be talking as a brother who has long walked in the shoes they are in – and assure them all the more that they can endure and thrive under God.If you come to me to find the detailed plan on how everything will unfold, I am not your guy. If you come to me in hopes that I will tell you that the scenario you have devised in your mind is the only possible one, I am not your guy. If you come to me in hopes that I can fortify you in your search for what God wants from you and for credible assurance that God has not and will never abandon His people, I may have something for you.For almost all of my life, I have imagined my path as similar to a spring bursting forth at the top of a mountain, determined to find its way to the bottom and form a clear pool of refreshing water. Along my path, I will encounter many obstacles – sticks, rocks, dirt and dead leaves. I can go through all of them. Occasionally I will encounter an obstacle so big and solid that I can’t go through it. On those, I will well up against it and go around it. But I WILL find my way to the bottom to form that clear pool. And when I get there, I know I will realize that all those obstacles actually purified me on my way, filtering out the impurities and dirt that clung to me at the beginning. I may die a complete failure, but if I do, I won’t know it in this world, for I will press on to the end of my way. I pray – and I have been encouraging all of you these last eight years – that you do the same.Find me on Gab at Charliej373 or at the CORAC group.Donate to CORAC!Join the Conversation! The Corps of Renewal and Charity (CORAC)18208 Preston Rd., Ste. Friend,

After spending 10 years in the United States Marine Corps, fighting for our nation, Jesus Rivera has been betrayed by his own country at the hands of the Biden Regime and the Gestapo tactics of the FBI and it’s Department of Justice.

I’m Larry Klayman, founder of Judicial Watch and currently the founder and chairman of Freedom Watch, a non-profit government watchdog that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse!

On a January morning, up to 20 heavily armed agents raided this Marine’s home, effectively ransacking his home, falsely and unconstitutionally arresting and interrogating him without legal counsel present, and seizing his personal property which he needs for his livelihood to earn a living for his family.

Mr. Rivera’s loving wife watched and pleaded with the armed agents to see a warrant as her husband was placed in handcuffs.

What was Mr. Rivera’s alleged crime that resulted in such an intimidating show of force by the FBI and law enforcement?

He was one of the hundreds of thousands of protesters in Washington on January 6th. The patriotic Marine was there to witness the final speech of his president before leaving office.

Mr. Rivera committed no crime, engaged in violence, and I have filed a class action lawsuit for constitutional violations on his behalf to make this right, and so others aren’t terrorized into submission.

Join me in fighting for the Marine veteran by backing this class action lawsuit.

The FBI, it’s Director Robert Wray and specifically the special agents that we’re personally suing in this case, are using their positions of power to intimidate patriots around the nation to stay put, stay quiet and stay out of politics!

They’re using tactics reminiscent of Adolf Hilter’s Third Riech! Read the words of the FBI Director named as a defendant in the case, Christopher Wray:

We know who you are if you’re out there, and FBI agents are coming to find you

Wray and his FBI has been pressuring spouses, siblings, children and former romantic partners who spotted their loved ones at the Capitol to rat them out and turn them in.

This tyrannical heavy handed intimidation is reminiscent of the Nazis having fellow Germans turn in German Jews during the Holocaust!

We not only need to get justice for Mr. Rivera and other pro-Trump peaceful protesters like him, a combat Marine with 10 years of honorable service, we need to send a message to Biden’s personal goon squad that we won’t be silenced!

Help me do that now by supporting Freedom Watch’s work with your most generous tax deductible contribution today.

Thank you from the bottom of hearts for your support.

For Freedom,

Larry Klayman

From Cybersex to Child Sacrifice: New GFA World Report Probes ‘Children in Crisis’ From U.S. border to South Asia, 1.2 billion children face ‘horrors,’ exploitation on sickening scale WILLS POINT, Texas — America’s humanitarian border crisis is featured in a shocking new report that examines the horrors facing the world’s children in 2022. Many migrant boys and girls fall prey to human traffickers, smugglers, and drug cartels en route to the U.S., according to the report “Children in Crisis: The World’s Greatest ‘Badge of Shame’” (http://www.gfa.org/press/KidsCrisis) by Texas-based humanitarian agency GFA World (www.gfa.org).gfa - children in crisis.jpg The report highlights a terrifying U.S. With hopeful enthusiasm and joy for the witness of these young missionaries of life, we were proud to scream with them, “We – are – the Pro-Life generation.”  Let us pray that the students of St. John Bosco Academy are correct

St. John Bosco visits St. Augustineby Edward J. BarrJanuary 23, 2022 (Edward J. Barr) – On January 16 a holy alliance was formed when St. John Bosco visited St. Augustine.  This wasn’t a heavenly meeting of the two actual saints.  In fact, you could say that St. John Bosco took St. Augustine by force.  It happened at the March for Life in the City of St. Augustine.  On that day we who attended were offered a glimpse of a glorious pro-life future in our nation.  St. John Bosco Academy sent several busloads of students five hours south of their home in Cumming, Georgia, north of Atlanta.  The day’s events began with a Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche.  The Most Reverend Felipe J. Estévez, bishop of the diocese of St. Augustine (the oldest diocese in Florida), celebrated the Mass.  It was held in a field a short distance from the site of the first Mass celebrated in what is now the United States, by Father Francisco Lopez de Mendoza Grajales on September 8, 1565.The students from St. John Bosco made their presence known at Mass by their reverential and focused attitudes.  They quietly stood near the back of the congregation, which numbered a few thousand faithful.  During communion they waited patiently to partake in the Eucharist; it appears the organizers didn’t anticipate such a robust turnout and had to return to the main church for additional hosts.  Our small group couldn’t help commenting on the inspiring character of the students. The March kicked off shortly after Mass some motivational words from a few speakers.  The route follows the main road in the city and then transitions to the old town, through the heart of the historical tourist area.  The street narrows significantly after the transition.  A few of us were separated from our group and found ourselves in the middle of the students from St. John Bosco.  We quickly learned they had saved their energy for the March.  They demonstrated their youthful enthusiasm through a number of motivating chants (“Hey, hey, ho, ho, Roe v. Wade has got to go), yet were always charitable and respectful to the somewhat bewildered tourists whom we passed.  When we had reached the Plaza de la Constitución, near the Basilica, we turned around to look for our friends.  It was then we noticed that we were right in front of the large banner emblazed with the main theme they were singing throughout the walk.  Crossing the street to the park, the students’ shouted that banner for their final chant.  With hopeful enthusiasm and joy for the witness of these young missionaries of life, we were proud to scream with them, “We – are – the Pro-Life generation.”  Let us pray that the students of St. John Bosco Academy are correct!Edward J Barr is a Catechist, attorney, and public speaker in Florida.

18.https://cabc325ffd7ab9ad73ef952af974f993.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

The pope also lamented that communities dedicated to the Latin Mass had “exploited to widen the gaps, reinforce the divergences, and encourage disagreements that injure the Church, block her path, and expose her to the peril of division.”https://cabc325ffd7ab9ad73ef952af974f993.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

‘Devastated’ Traditional Latin Mass devotees petition Arlington bishop to ease restrictions

18.https://cabc325ffd7ab9ad73ef952af974f993.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

WHY IS IT THAT TRADITIONAL DEFENDERS OF THE TRADITION OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH CAN BE EXCOMMUNICATED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHURCH’S CODE OF CANON LAW WHILE MASS KILLING POLITICIANS LIKE PRO-ABORT Andrew Cuomo AND ADOLPH HITLER CANNOT?

THE CATHOLIC MONITOR

“A Lefebvre Moment”: “Why is it that Defenders of Catholic… Tradition can be Excommunicated by Canon Law while Mass Killing Politicians like Pro-Abort Cuomo and Hitler can’t?”

In 2019, Canon lawyer Ed Peters was basically saying the new canon law makes it nearly impossible to excommunicate politicians like a Andrew Cuomo or a Adolf Hitler.

On a more important note: if the new canon law makes it nearly impossible to excommunicate anyone even a Cuomo or a Hitler, does this mean that Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and Francis critic Fr. Alessandro Maria Minutella were never excommunicated?

Why is it that defenders of Catholic orthodoxy and tradition can be excommunicated by canon law while mass killing politicians like Cuomo and Hitler can’t?

But getting back to the point, Peters in his new excommunication article on Cardinal Timothy Dolan needed to more forcefully restate what he said two weeks ago on Canon 915 about Cuomo and other pro-abortion politicians not receiving Communion:

Spokane Bishop Thomas Daly just used Canon 915 to declared to pro-abortion politicians that they “should not” receive Communion in his diocese.

I hope that Peters will again as he did in 2019 say forcefully that Dolan should Canon 915 Cuomo.

SPENDING AND DEBT REFORM

By: Marvin L. Covault, Lt Gen US Army, retired

January 22, 2022

1. A mammoth, sprawling, uncontrollable, federal government was never the vision or intent of the founding fathers.  Organizations have a propensity to grow to a point of diminishing returns; it ceases to be efficient, effective, and/or no longer performs the functions for which it was created.  At that point, a large organization will tend to look inward and become self-perpetuating rather than value-added.

2. Some or all of that could apply today to the Departments in the Executive Branch of the federal government. This results in two major problems that must get fixed.

First, a too-large organization is very expensive to maintain.  A more effective and efficient Executive Branch will be much smaller and less expensive. Every 1% reduction in end-strength equals about a $1.5 billion saving in annual salaries plus billions of dollars more in long-term retirement pay and benefits.

Second, and more importantly, the annual U.S. budget boils up out of this massive organization. Every government-funded program is maintained and sustained inside these bureaucracies.  These programs are this organization’s product.  General Motor’s product is vehicles; the Executive Branch’s product is taxpayer-supported programs.  The question is, what is the value added of those programs?  An in-depth review will undoubtedly find programs that have existed for decades, their original purpose no longer relevant, programs that sounded good at their inception but have failed in execution, programs to solve a problem that should have been the purview of state or local officials, programs initiated to solve a short-term problem but live on forever.  The list is long.  President Reagan summed up the problem with this statement, “Government is like a baby, an alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.”

3. Before we launch into how to fix spending, a word about the national debt.  The out-of-control spending and debt increase is a relatively new problem. The Obama/Biden administration swamped us with more debt than all of the 43 previous presidents combined.  And now increasing debt annually has become the norm.  The Congressional Budget Office has been telling us for several years that annual debt increases are “not sustainable”, aka, there will be a day of reckoning and it will be ugly.

It is difficult to get our minds around the almost $29 trillion debt.  If you had stood on a street corner in 1960 handing out dollar bills, one dollar per second, you would just about now finish giving away the first billion dollars. Your federal government spends a billion dollars about every 8 hours, 24/7.  You would be on that street corner for 62,000 years to hand out the first $1 trillion. If you were paying off the current debt at one dollar per second, it would take you 1.8 million years.  Unsustainable. We have to do something about spending and we have to change the way we think about debt.

4. A frontal assault on the Executive Branch could result in the first major attempt at reducing annual federal spending by hundreds of billions of dollars; something the current Executive Branch and Congress collectively are incapable of doing.

The federal government can be fixed but it will take strong leadership, attention to detail and, if done properly, at least six months of hard work.  The current administration is incapable of taking on this project. But fortunately, the Biden administration will eventually go away and when that happens it provides an opportunity for the Republican party and the future of our country.

5. There was a time when the Republican Party stood for smaller government, states’ rights, strong defense, strict interpretation of the Constitution, AND FISCAL CONSERVATISM.  Politicians have moved away from being fiscally responsible. Just as was the case in 2016, the American people are looking for someone to lead us away from growing governmental control, cultural entitlement, and out-of-control government spending aka uncontrolled taxation.

Reducing the size, reach, budget, and influence of the sprawling Executive Branch should become a major plank in every Republican congressional campaign this year leading on to the 2024 presidential election. Here is what needs to be accomplished now through June 2025 in five phases.

6. Phase 1, Planning and Message Proliferation. Now through November 2024.

a.) Of the tens of thousands of Rip’s subscribers who are reading this, some of you know and can communicate with the Republican candidates for House and Senate seats this year.  Those of you who believe the following program is necessary, encourage your candidate to make Spending and Debt Reform a priority in their campaign. If this happens, Spending and Debt Reform awareness will be set up across the nation for the 2024 presidential campaign.

b.) There are Republican movers-and-shakers who have national influence and are frequently asked by the media to comment on policy and issues; three that come to mind are former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Governor Mike Huckabee, and former presidential Special Advisor Karl Rove.  Additionally, we can easily begin to make a list of potential 2024 presidential/vice presential candidates; for example, Senator Tom Cotton, Governor Ron DeSantis, former Governor Nikki Haley, President Trump, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Senator Lindsey Graham, Governor Kristi Noem. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and other influential Republican stalwarts also need to be on the list.  The point here is that those of you who know and can communicate with those on the list should have a serious discussion with them about making Spending and Debt Reform an important addition to their political position from this date on through the 2024 election.

Comment on the above paragraph:  This is by no means a complete list but I cannot recall a time when the Republican Party had such a strong bench of spokespersons and potential presidential/vice-presidential candidates.  The challenge is to get them focused on Spending and Debt Reform as a critical national issue before it is too late for this country.

7. Phase 2, 118th Congress, January 2023-2025.  When the 118th Congress convenes, the newcomers should inculcate Spending and Debt Reform into daily Capitol Hill dialogue and become an issue for every piece of legislation.

8. Phase 3, The 2024 Presidential Campaign.  All primary-election Republication candidates should agree that Spending and Debt Reform is a critical issue facing the nation and if elected will make it a priority to execute the reform process.

During the general-election campaign, the Republican presidential candidate will make it clear that the priority for his/her vice president will be to lead Spending and Debt Reform execution.

9. Phase 4, Nominate Executive Branch Leaders, November 2024 – January 2025. The President/Vice President-elect should concentrate their selection process on principals and their deputies who understand organizations, who have successfully led large complex organizations, and who will lead the effort to re-think their mission and to restructure their organization to most effectively and efficiently achieve their mission.

10. Phase 5, Spending and Debt Reform Execution, January 2025-June 2025.  This will be a difficult process because we are talking about change, massive change.  We must recognize that for any large organization, especially one as large as the Executive Branch, change is hard. Fear of the unknown is a powerful human force, especially in government with an entrenched, layered bureaucracy that is stiff, stifling, and, in many respects, self-serving.

The newly elected Vice President will provide hands-on leadership from start to finish with periodic in-progress reviews to the American people.

How does all this get accomplished? It is a long and tedious process, even explaining it is a long, tedious read, but there are no viable shortcuts to re-thinking, re-designing, and re-structuring large organizations and making them be all they can/should be.

First, the vice president should set up a senior Spending and Debt Reform Task Force consisting of the deputies of all the departments, agencies, and commissions. They will be the change agents and become the junkyard dogs of Washington.

Second, define the end state and end date for the campaign. For example, the VP might say, “Over the next six months our task force will look inside every organizational element of the Executive Branch.  We will assess their mission (is it relevant today), their structure (too many or too few people), layering (is it OK or dysfunctional), can the organization integrate (communicate) vertically and horizontally efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis? Is the organization as a whole agile (able to deal with change as a matter of course) and is there overall value-added for the government and especially for the American people?”

Third, organization charts: The process begins in every named organization by putting together a very detailed organization chart. That’s the visual for the task force and it provides an immediate sense of the size, complexity, and layering.  Big government is layer after layer after layer; some of which produce nothing; they exist just to oversee what is being produced at the layers below.  Why the organization chart?  Because it allows the task force to begin the analysis and restructure at the bottom of the organization. One cannot reorganize and restructure top-down; to be successful it must be bottom-up.

Using the Department of Agriculture as an example, 65 different organizational elements come under the headings of “departments, agencies, councils, institutes, programs, foundations, services, authorities, offices of, boards and facilities.” Inside them are departments, directorates, branches, sections, cells, and individual elements.  Every one of those becomes a “box” in the organization chart.  Each organizational box must list the name of the element, number of employees, and the grade of the leader, GS 10, 12, whatever.

Within the Department of Agriculture, for example, the Deputy Secretary, part of the VP’s senior task force, will form his/her own internal departmental task force. The Department Task Force’s first action will be to send out an internal memo to the leaders of every “box” to submit in one week a no-more-than-two-page report to the Deputy Secretary.  The report format should include, as a minimum:

a.)  A one or two-sentence mission statement that describes what it is that element collectively does.  (for example: responsible for writing, executing, and enforcing Department Regulation 135, Beef Export Program, and reporting results quarterly to ………)

During the following week, the Department Task Force’s job is to ask itself: do we need Dept Reg 135 any longer?  If so, could this be done with fewer people?  Could the same number of employees also be responsible for Dept Reg 246, Pork Export Program? Do we need the report quarterly? And most importantly, what is the value-added to the overall Department’s mission.

There are probably tens of thousands of worthless reports written every year by an entrenched bureaucratic mass that lives on forever sucking up tax dollars, stifling initiative, and being a roadblock to progress.

b.) The report should describe the grade structure of all the employees in the box.

Task Force will look at the grade structure; is it commensurate with the degree of complexity of the mission? Could two or more similar “boxes” be combined, perhaps scaled-down and led by this same leader (a span of control issue)? Is the leader a “working leader” or just grading the papers of his/her subordinates and passing them up the chain?

c.) Describe a typical work week; number of meetings, amount of travel, etc.

This can reveal a lot about an organizational element and its leader.  Many meetings are just to fill up time, or are a daily social coffee clutch, or make the person in charge feel like he/she is actually “leading”.  Many are a colossal waste of time. If employees have time to attend too many meetings, they probably are not very busy to begin with.  Is the travel critical to success, nice to have, or perhaps just to fill up the workweek? Travel is very expensive.

d.) What regulations guide your work?

After reviewing the answers to the other questions, it may become apparent that these regulations are no longer necessary.  Another piece in getting the big organizational picture.

e.) Product.  A list, in single sentences, of major accomplishments in the past 12 months

The task force will then determine if the accomplishments are in line with the mission or are just doing “busy work”?

f.) A short statement of value-added to the department of…..(agriculture).  That is, “Without us, the Department would not/could not do the following……….”

The Task Force review of the input is all about policy, practices, process, grade structure commensurate with overall responsibility, span of control, layering, and value-added determination.  When the VP randomly attends Departmental Task Force sessions, he/she will be grading their work and progress; are they tough enough, too tough, thorough enough, on the right track, or being overly protective of the status quo?  The VP will also be able to pick up strong points and pass them along to other Departments as best practices.

Once the task force has worked its way up from the bottom, looking at every element, their individual mission, and value added, then and only then will they be capable of looking back and seeing how many subordinate elements are off track, irrelevant, unnecessary or even counterproductive.  They will then be capable of restructuring, re-aligning, re-tasking, reorganizing the subordinate elements to create an organization that is more focused, aligned, responsive, innovative, agile, and rid of pockets of resistance

What must be emphasized here is the importance of the bottom-up review process.  As the task force works up from layer to layer on the organization chart, they will come to some conclusions about value added at each level. Having reached the top of the org chart it is possible the Vice President’s senior task force could conclude that an entire department’s continued existence should be questioned.  A prime example is the Department of Education.  Education in America is a national disgrace and not getting better despite the hundreds of billions of tax dollars expended by the department since its inception 40 years ago.

This process may look tedious and time-consuming because it is.  But unless you begin at the bottom and unless you include every element, you will never achieve an acceptable level of success.

11. CONCLUSIONS:

a.) The task forces must be especially mindful of the phrase “we provide oversight.”  That is a red flashing light that an organization does not, in and of itself, produce anything of value. They simply exist to grade papers, expand their purview, inhibit progress and expend tax dollars.  As President Reagan reminded us, “The most terrifying words in the English language are, I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”

b.) During the process, it is important to not lose sight of the two-fold objectives.  First, the objective is NOT to reach some specific lower number of federal employees.  The objective is to rid the government of “boxes” in the organization charts that have no “value added”, they just exist because they have always been there.  The end state is an organization that is leaner, more focused, more efficient, more effective, and agile.

c.) Why do all of this work?  Two reasons:

1) The most common attempts at downsizing, in my experience used numerous times over the past decades, have been to declare a hiring freeze or order an across-the-board xx% personnel cut, neither of which make any sense nor achieves any positive results.

2) What I have described above has never been done before.  We have just allowed the Executive Branch to grow without ever undertaking a necessary pruning process.

d.) When completed, many positions (perhaps tens of thousands of them) will be eliminated. It will then take a couple years of shuffling the deck by the Office of Personnel Management to get folks reassigned or retired, but it is within the art of the possible and worth the effort.

e.) That budget is the sum of what all of the departments, agencies, councils, institutes, programs, foundations, services, authorities, offices of, boards, and facilities need to accomplish their mission.  When, perhaps tens of thousands of actions, programs, and policies are eliminated because they are outdated, unnecessary, and/or redundant, the budget requirement can be downsized by billions of dollars.

f.) There is also a states’ right issues in all of this.  As the federal government grows a natural outcome is that they over-reach into areas that are better and more effectively handled at the local and state level.  Federal over-reach tends to result in a one-size-fits-all approach to problem-solving and it is usually ineffective and inefficient.

g.) President Reagan got it right when he said:

ü “Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.”

ü “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

ü “Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets.”

12. BOTTOM LINE:  Getting spending and hence debt under control will resonate with the American people a lot more than the tax-and-spend economic baseline of the Obama and Biden administrations.  This is a necessary, positive endeavor the Republican Party needs to embrace.

The vice president-led Spending and Budget Reform Task Force accomplishments will send a powerful message to Congress.  Congress has become increasingly irresponsible overspending and debt.  They need a wake-up call and if the Republican Party will campaign and win 2022/2024 with the Spending and Debt Reform message, the Congress will change.
