Archbishop Viganò on Fr. Martin

Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò. He has written a new letter which has appeared in the form of an interview with John-Henry Westen of Lifesitenews, who posed the questions to the archbishop, who answered in writing. The text is dated July 3, 2021, Feast of St. Irenaeus    Letter #42, Wednesday, June 30, 2021: Viganò    “The Church’s immutable teaching… does not impose itself as a cruel castration of the tendencies and orientations of the human person… but rather as a loving and harmonious development of the individual towards the sole purpose that can completely fulfill him… to love, adore, and serve God, and so attain eternal beatitude in the glory of Paradise.” —Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, in a new interview in which he discusses the Church’s teaching with regard to human sexuality, written on July 3, 2021, and first published yesterday    “It is a suicidal gesture in which the leaders of the Church surrender unconditionally to the antichristic ideology of globalism and hand over the entire flock of Christ as a hostage to the Enemy, abdicating their role as Pastors.” —Archbishop Viganò in the same interview, giving his judgment on the support given by Pope Francis and other Church leaders to the pastoral work of Fr. James Martin, S.J., best known for his outreach to the LGBT community (link). Pope Francis on June 21 sent a letter to Fr. Martin, commending him for his pastoral work (link), and the letter was made public and published worldwide. The archbishop expresses his view of Martin’s activity in these terms: “The activism of the Jesuit Martin foreshadows the rainbow ministry of the Age of Aquarius, the religion of the Antichrist, and the worship of idols and demons.”        “I therefore find it outrageous towards God, scandalous for the honor of the Church, a matter of grave scandal for the faithful and a desolating abandonment for priests and confessors that a voice can be given to a Jesuit who bases his personal success not on proper pastoral action seeking the conversion of individual homosexuals with respect to Morality, but on the illusory promise of some change in Catholic doctrine that would legitimize people’s sinful behavior.” —Viganò, in the same interview    ***    Archbishop Viganò has released a new text on the issues facing the Church in our time, this time as answers to a series of questions posed to him by the editor of Lifesitenews, John-Henry Westen. The text is dated July 3, Feast of St. Irenaeus.    The interview was first published yesterday, July 8, by Lifesitenews, and the full text is also published here below.    Viganò’s central message is that, as a Catholic archbishop, he must teach the Church’s established doctrine in matters of faith and morals, and not teach that the doctrine is changeable, or can be changed, because this would be against the promise he made at the time of his ordination and consecration always to uphold the teaching.    Thus he writes: “Making him believe that by indulging the corrupt instincts of original sin and personal sins he can in some way fulfill himself far from God and against Him constitutes a culpable deception and a very grave responsibility on the part of those who abuse their role as Shepherds in order to delude the sheep and plunge them into the abyss.”    Viganò insists that the perennial teaching of the Church with regard to sexuality and sexual relations cannot and must not change, because it has been handed down from the beginning and because is in harmony with human nature and so adhering to this teaching offers the only chance for human happiness and blessedness.    He does stress, however, that it is also true that no one is free of sin, or free from the temptation to sin.    Thus Viganò writes: “The battle against one’s own nature corrupted by Original Sin unites us all: the one who manages money must fight against the temptation to steal, the one who is married must fight against the temptation to betray his or her spouse, the one who lives in chastity must fight against temptations against purity, the one who eats nice food must fight against the temptation to gluttony, and the one who is exposed to public applause must fight against the temptation to pride.”    In this sense, Viganò is making clear that he is not focusing on one sin only, but is attempting to offer pastoral direction for all who suffer from the fallen condition of human nature… that is, all of us.    But he is also making clear that he believes the effective, true way to offer this pastoral direction is not to teach that there is no sin, but rather to teach that the saving path toward blessedness lies in turning from sinand, through the forgiveness and grace of God, in setting out, ever again, on the difficult path toward holiness.    Here below is this new text by Archbishop Viganò in the question-and-answer format of an interview. Here is a link to the original publication (link).  VIRILITER AGITE [“Act Manfully”]“Viriliter agite, et confortetur cor vestrum.””Act manfully, and let your heart be strengthened.”—Psalm 30:25By Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganòanswering questions posed byJohn-Henry Westen, editor of Lifesitenews     What do you think of Pope Francis’s support for Father James Martin?    Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò:     The LGBTQ+ ideology and the gender theory that it presupposes as its postulate represent a mortal threat for our entire society, the family, the human person, and also obviously for the Church, because they dissolve the social body, relations between its members, and the very concept of the biological reality of the sexes, which is arbitrarily changed to each person’s questionable and variable subjective self-perception based on gender.    Many do not realize the chaos this will cause not only in civil and family habits but in religious ones as well, as soon as recognition of the LGBTQ+ movement inevitably leads to people with what may be defined as gender dysphoria demanding to be welcomed in parishes and communities.    An emblematic example could be the case of a man ordained as a priest who at a certain point believes that he identifies as a woman: should we prepare for the eventuality of seeing Mass celebrated by a trans-sexual or a transvestite?    And how can we reconcile the persistent existence of the male chromosome – which indefectibly defines the matter of the Sacrament of Holy Orders – with the appearances of a woman? What should we think about the case of a nun who, developing a male self-perception, demands to be transferred to a religious community of men and perhaps even to receive Holy Orders? This delusion, whose consequences are absurd and disturbing in the civil sphere, if applied to the religious sphere, would inflict a mortal blow on the already tortured ecclesial body.    We must consider the reasons that have led a personality like James Martin, S.J., to enjoy such notoriety and visibility in the ecclesial sphere and even in the Roman institutions, receiving an appointment as a Consultor of the Dicastery for Communications and recently being the recipient of a hand-written letter from Bergoglio.    His ostentatious commitment in support of the pan-sexualist movement effectively offers considered and acritical support for an unlimited series of sexual variations and perversions.    Such a priori adhesion is not the deplorable excess of a single Jesuit but represents the planned action of an ideological vanguard that has already proven to be uncontrollable and capable of orienting the very “Magisterium” of Bergoglio and his court.    The LGBTQ+ ideology constitutes the new moral paradigm of the globalist religion of the indistinct, which is of a clear Gnostic and Luciferian matrix.     The absence of supernaturally revealed dogmas serves as the premise of a post-human superdogma, in which Faith is perverted into an unconditional acceptance of every sort of heresy and depravity, Hope dissolves into the absurd claim of an already-guaranteed salvation hic et nunc, and Charity is corrupted into a horizontal solidarity deprived of its ultimate reference in God.    The activism of the Jesuit Martin foreshadows the rainbow ministry of the Age of Aquarius, the religion of the Antichrist, and the worship of idols and demons, beginning with the filthy Pachamama.    For this reason, the indecent and scandalous Bergoglian endorsement of the aberrant provocations of James Martin is only one more step down a path that started with his famous “Who am I to judge?” in perfect coherence with the line of “rupture” of this “pontificate.”    It is a suicidal gesture in which the leaders of the Church surrender unconditionally to the antichristic ideology of globalism and hand over the entire flock of Christ as a hostage to the Enemy, abdicating their role as Pastors and showing themselves for who they really are: mercenaries and traitors.    Scandalized, we are witnessing the transition from “argue, obsecra, increpa, insta opportune importune” – “reprove, entreat, rebuke, be instant in season and out of season” (2 Tim 4:2) – to “loquimini nobis placentia” – “speak unto us pleasant things” (Is 30:10).    It is therefore unsurprising that James Martin enjoys such appreciation in the highest spheres of the Vatican, which according to the methodology in force since Vatican II leaves a free hand to the most agitated exponents of progressive currents and then adopts the Hegelian dialectic between the thesis of natural and Catholic morality, theantithesis of doctrinal deviations, and the synthesis of a new magisterium in step with the times.    This way of proceeding, which may seem to some to be a prudent updating to the secularized mentality of our time, nevertheless reveals an abysmal betrayal of the teaching of Christ and the law impressed in man by his Creator.    A greater license in vice – largely desired and promoted by today’s dominant anti-Christian ideology – does not legitimize in any way this denial on the part of the Hierarchy of the command it has received from Our Lord, nor can it authorize operations of adulteration that aim solely at indulging the worldly spirit and the corruption of morals.    On the contrary, the more the mainstream pushes for a cancellation of the immutable principles of Catholic morality, the more pastors have the duty to raise their voice to reaffirm without hesitation what God has commanded them to preach.    I therefore find it outrageous towards God, scandalous for the honor of the Church, a matter of grave scandal for the faithful and a desolating abandonment for priests and confessors that a voice can be given to a Jesuit who bases his personal success not on proper pastoral action seeking the conversion of individual homosexuals with respect to Morality, but on the illusory promise of some change in Catholic doctrine that would legitimize people’s sinful behavior and grants the dignity of interlocutor to the so-called LGBTQ+ movements.    The mere use of this acronym, which supports people by identifying them mechanically in their specific sexual perversion against nature, demonstrates a prostration of James Martin and his collaborators to the demands of the pan-sexual lobby, which the Church cannot accept or legitimize in the least.    In any case, if a large part of the Clergy is so impatient to see the demands of LGBTQ+ ideology endorsed by the Hierarchy, this is clearly due to an execrable conflict of interest and a very deep moral and disciplinary crisis.    Is it possible to change the teaching of the Church with regard to homosexual unions, especially considering that Pope Francis has publicly approved civil unions, which in the past were condemned by magisterial documents of the Vatican?    Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò: It must be made clear that behaviors against the Sixth Commandment of the Decalogue, especially those concerning sexual disorders that offend the Creator in the natural distinction of the sexes themselves and in the procreative purpose of the conjugal act, cannot be subjected to any updating, not even under pressure of power groups or iniquitous laws promulgated by the civil authority.    The hedonistic and pan-sexualist mentality that lies at the foundation of today’s dominant ideology, according to which the exercise of sexuality is not intrinsically ordered towards procreation but can have as its sole purpose the unregulated satisfaction of pleasure, should also be denounced without hesitation.    This vision is repugnant to the natural order willed by the Creator, which makes the sexual act lawful only in the union of spouses blessed by the Sacrament and open to conception.    It is evident that, since nature firstly does not make procreation between two men or two women possible, every form of sexuality between persons of the same sex is intrinsically disordered, and as such cannot be justified in any way.    Civil unions are nothing but forms of public legitimization of concubinage in which the couple does not assume the responsibilities and duties connected to the natural institution of marriage.    If the civil authority approves such unions, it abuses its own authority, which Providence has instituted within the very precise limits of thebonum commune and never in direct contradiction of the salus animarumwhich the Church watches over with Her maternal authority.    But if such unions are ratified by the ecclesiastical authority, the betrayal of the divine mandate is added to the perversion of the purpose for which the supreme Lawgiver willed it, rendering every even implicit form of official approval of sinful and scandalous behaviors de facto null and void.    There are many bishops in the United States who sign letters in support of indentification as LGBT and confirm this orientation, just as others – like Cardinal Cupich – suggest that homosexual couples can receive Holy Communion. What is your message to Catholics who may be bewildered by such pronouncements?    Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò: The pseudo-magisterium of recent years, in particular that of Amoris Laetitia regarding the admission to the Sacraments of public concubinaries and divorcees, has opened a breach in that part of the Magisterium which even after Vatican II had been preserved from systematic demolition by the innovators.    It is therefore not surprising, even in its absolute gravity, that once people who are in the state of mortal sin have been admitted to Holy Communion, this unfortunate decision is then extended to people who do not have the capacity to contract legitimate marriages, since they are not a couple consisting of a man and a woman.    But on closer inspection, this heterodox vision also concerns politicians who in their action of governance and social commitment publicly contradict Catholic teaching and betray the commitment to coherence which they assumed with their Baptism and Confirmation.    On the other hand, so-called “adult Catholics” – who in the eyes of God are simply rebellious against His holy Law – find widespread approval among Bishops who are even more rebellious – like Cupich, Tobin, Gregory, and their followers, who are themselves unworthy of celebrating the Sacred Mysteries – while the Pastors who are faithful to the mandate conferred on them by Our Lord not only recognize their situation of public sin but also do not wish to aggravate it with the profanation of the Blessed Sacrament.    What is the essential and immutable teaching of the Church with regard to homosexuality?    Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò: The Church, faithful to the teaching of her Head, is Mother and not stepmother: she does not indulge her children’s weaknesses and inclination to sin, but she admonishes them, exhorts them, and punishes them with medicinal sanctions in order to lead every soul to the purpose for which it has been created, that is, eternal beatitude.    Every soul, willed and loved by God, has been redeemed by the Redeemer on the Cross, for whom He has shed his very Blood: Cujus una stilla salvum facere totum mundum quit ab omni scelere. As we read in the Adoro te devote, composed by the Doctor Communis [that is, St. Thomas Aquinas] one single drop of the Most Precious Blood of Christ has the power to save the entire human race from all of its sins.    The Church’s immutable teaching is simple, crystalline, and inspired by the love of God and the love of neighbor for His sake. It does not impose itself as a cruel castration of the tendencies and orientations of the human person which it irrationally defends as legitimate, but rather as a loving and harmonious development of the individual towards the sole purpose that can completely fulfill him and that corresponds to the intimate essence of his nature. Man is born to love, adore, and serve God, and so attain eternal beatitude in the glory of Paradise.    Making him believe that by indulging the corrupt instincts of original sin and personal sins he can in some way fulfill himself far from God and against Him constitutes a culpable deception and a very grave responsibility on the part of those who abuse their role as Shepherds in order to delude the sheep and plunge them into the abyss.    Instead, it is necessary to show, with patient but firm spiritual direction, that every human being has a supernatural destiny and a path of suffering and sacrifices that temper him and make him worthy of his eternal reward. There is no Resurrection without Calvary, no victory without a fight!    This is true for every soul redeemed by Our Lord: both the married person and the celibate, the priest and the layperson, the man and the woman, the child and the elder.    The battle against one’s own nature corrupted by Original Sin unites us all: the one who manages money must fight against the temptation to steal, the one who is married must fight against the temptation to betray his or her spouse, the one who lives in chastity must fight against temptations against purity, the one who eats nice food must fight against the temptation to gluttony, and the one who is exposed to public applause must fight against the temptation to pride.    Thus, with humility and trust in the Grace of God, and having recourse to the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin, every person whom the Lord puts to the test – even in the painful situation of homosexuality – must understand that it is in the battle against sin that one conquers one’s place in eternity, makes the Passion of Christ not rendered vain, and causes the splendor of the Mercy of God to shine forth towards His creatures, whom He helps in the moment of temptation – not with the illusory approval of inclinations to evil but by pointing to the glorious destiny that awaits each one of us: being admitted to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb wearing the royal robe that He has prepared for us.    May we be assisted in this earthly pilgrimage by the Grace regained with sacramental Absolution and the celestial food of the Holy Eucharist, the Bread of Angels and pledge of future glory.    + Carlo Maria Viganò, Archbishop    3 July 2021    Saint Irenaeus, Bishop and Martyr

Anti-Fr. Altmann Bp. Callahan said of Disgraced Gay Archbishop Weakland: He made “his Mistakes but also [did] some of the Good” according to WISN 12 News

ListeckiFAMILYwide01-07-10

Archbishop Listecki’s left are Archbishop emeritus Rembert G. Weakland, and Bishops William P. Callahan

Bishop William Callahan of La Crosse has launched an unmerciful attack on Catholic pro-life Fr. JamesAltmann and removed him from his ministry.

Shockingly in 2009, Callahan said of his apparent friend disgraced gay Archbishop Rembert Weakland that he made “his mistakes but also [did] some of the good” according to WISN 12 News:

Callahan said he talked to Former Archbishop Weakland last week, but despite his knowledge of the book, it was not discussed.

Callahan, who’s known Weakland for years, said he’s surprised by Weakland’s admission that he is gay…

… Weakland is no stranger to controversy. He retired in 2002 after it came out he had an affair decades earlier with a male college student. He has also came under fire for hiding the actions of pedophile priests.

WISN 12 News asked Callahan if he thinks the Archdiocese can move on beyond the things Weakland left behind.

“Certainly, without a doubt, certainly. The church has moved on for centuries with saints and sinners, and that’s Jesus’ intention,” Callahan said.

Callahan said Weakland’s legacy in the church is not just his mistakes but also some of the good he did, including shaping the modern mass. He does not expect the Vatican to weight in on the book.

Patrick J. Buchanan reported the following of Callahan’s apparent friend Weakland:

For Weakland was a homosexual who confessed in a 1980 letter he was in “deep love” with a male paramour who shook down the archbishop for $450,000 in church funds as hush money to keep his lover’s mouth shut about their squalid affair.

According to Rod Dreher, Weakland moved Father William Effinger, who would die in prison, from parish to parish, knowing Effinger was a serial pederast.

When one of Effinger’s victims sued the archdiocese but lost because of a statute of limitations, Weakland counter-sued and extracted $4,000 from the victim of his predator priest.

Dreher describes Weakland’s tenure thus:

“He directed Catholic schools … to teach kids how to use condoms as part of AIDS education and approved a graphic sex-education program for parochial-school kids that taught ‘there is no right and wrong’ on the issues of abortion, contraception and premarital sex. He has advocated for gay rights and women’s ordination, bitterly attacked Pope John Paul II, denounced pro-lifers as ‘fundamentalist’ and declared that one could be both pro-choice and a Catholic in good standing.”

Speaking of sex-abuse victims in 1988, Weakland was quoted: “Not all adolescen
t victims are so innocent. Some can be sexually very active and aggressive and often streetwise.” [http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=36362Anti-Catholicism and the Times
by Patrick J. Buchanan , 04/06/2010]

Last year, Bishop Callahan launched an attacked on Catholic pro-life Fr. Altmann saying “he will attempt fraternal correction before imposing canonical penalties or taking other formal steps in the matter, and acknowledged that the priest had inflicted a ‘wound’ upon the Church.” [https://www.catholicworldreport.com/2020/09/09/la-crosse-bishop-to-correct-catholics-cant-be-democrats-priest/]

Fr. Altmann in his YouTube viral video correctly said: “You can not be Catholic and be a Democrat. Period” because the Democrat party is for the “intrinsically evil” of killing unborn babies.

It appears that Bishop Callahan may, also, disagrees with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Fatima on telling people in “intrinsically evil” about the possibility of the infallible Catholic teaching on Hell.

The La Crosse Tribune quotes Callahan apparently possibly saying that he “hope[s]… no one” speaks of “hell” to those in “intrinsically evil”:

“I said, ‘Hopefully, no one has ever told him that he’s going to hell. That’s not what we teach. We teach certainly that there are areas of action that we consider intrinsically evil, and that there are actions that we would say these will set you outside of the law, but God is the one who judges.”, and that there are actions that we would say these will set you outside of the law, but God is the one who judges.” [https://lacrossetribune.com/news/local/money-politics-and-religion-a-conversation-with-bishop-william-callahan/article_16a248da-3c36-11e2-9fd3-0019bb2963f4.html]

Does Callahan  “hope… no one” speaks of “hell” to those in “intrinsically evil”?

If this is what Bishop Callahan is saying then it appears that the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Fatima disagree with him.

I hope that Callahan isn’t disagreeing with Our Lord and Lady.

Hopefully, he teaches about making first Fridays and first Saturdays to make reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the conversion of sinners as Our Lady of Fatima asked for so they don’t go to Hell.

Tradition in Action explains that Jesus is merciful, but also because of original sin and when after baptism we sin which is an infinite crime He had to redeemed us by his infinite sacrifice on Good Friday. However, He requires that we in grace unite to His Redemption by doing penance and reparation for forgiveness of our sins and implicitly for others:

“In the images of the Sacred Heart, He points to this symbolic font of love and mercy for us. The devotions to the Sacred Heart always suppose reparation for our sins. We are sinners, we must make reparation. Despite the promises from Our Lord and the fact that He paid an infinite price for our Redemption, we must make reparation. We should always do penance for our sins and make various kinds of reparation.”

“… the error of the [extreme Francis] Divine Mercy devotion. It preaches that we can expect an unconditional mercy with no price to be paid whatsoever, with no obligations whatsoever. This is not the message of Christ.”

Christ is merciful. Time and time again, His mercy pardons our repeated sins in the Sacrament of Penance, always taking us back no matter how bad our sins are. And what happens in the Sacrament of Penance? The very name of the Sacrament tells us exactly what happens: to be effective the Sacrament supposes penance. Not only are you there at the Sacrament recognizing your full submission to the Church and your dependence on the Sacraments for forgiveness, but you walk out of the confessional with an imposed penance.”

Also, Fatima’s Sister Lucia said that Our Lady asked for sacrifices and rosaries to obtain the graces so sinners will not go to Hell, but, also, for reparation because of sins against God and the Mother of God:

“Sacrifice yourself for sinners and say many times especially whenever you make such a sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversions of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”

Sister Lucia told Father Lombardi, according to the Vatican’s Osservatore della Domenica on February 7, 1954, the following about why there is a need for sacrifices and prayers for sinners so they can be saved from Hell.

Fr. Lombardi: “Tell me is the Better World Movement a response of the Church to the words spoken to Our Lady?”

Lucia: “Father there is certainly a great need for this renewal. If it is not done, and taking into account the present development of humanity, only a limited number of the human race will be saved.”

Fr. Lombardi: “Do you really believe that many will go to Hell? I hope that God will save the greater part of humanity.” [He had just written a book entitled: Salvation for those without faith.]

Lucia: “Father, many will be lost.”

Fr. Lombardi: “It is true that the world is full of evil, but there is always a hope of salvation.”

Lucia: “No Father, many will be lost.”
(Fatima, The Great Sign by Francis Johnston, Tan Publishers, Inc. Rockford, Illinois, Page 36)

The devotions of Our Lady of Fatima and the Sacred Heart of Jesus are both about reparation because each person has free will that by grace can cooperate with God for his redemption or reject God’s grace and sin by committing “intrinsically evil” actions whereby he may and can reject God’s mercy and freely choose to go to Hell.

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He want you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.

Francis Notes:

– Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church in such a situation:

“[T]he Pope… WHEN he is EXPLICITLY a heretic, he falls ipso facto from his dignity and out of the Church, and the Church MUST either deprive him, or, as some say, declare him deprived, of his Apostolic See.”
(The Catholic Controversy, by St. Francis de Sales, Pages 305-306)

Saint Robert Bellarmine, also, said “the Pope heretic is not deposed ipso facto, but must be declared deposed by the Church.”

Eeyore ’s Corner: From Hippies to Yuppies to Our Puppies?Part Two: Yuppiedom
By: Victor Davis HansonVictor Davis Hanson // Private PapersJuly 8, 2021

The nihilism of the protests movements, the drop-outs’ human wreckage, the end of the draft and American involvement in Vietnam, and the ‘silent majority’ reaction to hippiness, all ended the Sixites, albeit in the 1970s. George McGovern’s landslide loss to Richard Nixon in 1972 marked the beginning of the end of the age of protest.
Both the right-wing insurance agent and the aging professor, like the silly Dionysiac outfitted Teiresias and Cadmus in Euripides Bacchae, now wore paisley and bell-bottoms, and viewed Deep Throat, but, otherwise, America was on to taste and the good life.
Even Watergate hysterias could not save the now despised hard Left. Jimmy Carter was in 1976 elected on the basis of his southern accent, the downfall of Nixon, and the ruse of Democratic centralism. When Carter proved that he was both a sanctimonious leftist and an incompetent—stagflation, the Iran hostage crisis, oil shocks, “malaise”—then followed 12 years of a Reagan-Bush regnum that politically nailed shut the Sixties coffin.
Bill Clinton squeezed out eight years of a Democratic revival, but only by using his southern patina, good ol’ boy, “aw-shucks” schtick. And still, he needed, counted on, third-party Texas populist Ross Perot to siphon off mostly traditional and populist swing voters in 1992 and to a lesser extent in 1996. Remember that the fake centrism of the “New Democratic” party was a brilliant Dick Morris’s creation, which for a decade professed an end to open borders, talked up more policemen on the beat, and even bragged about school uniforms.
From 1980 through 2008, we were in full Yuppie mode. Aging hippies or pseudo radicals kept vestigial and mostly superficial elements of the 1960s—longish hair, wire-rim glasses, casual fashion, dope-smoking, spiraling divorce, promiscuity—but channeled their innate conceit and self-centeredness into making money and consumerism. So-so novels chronicle the metamorphosis like Bright Lights, Big City, by Jay McInerney, or Louis Auchincloss, Diary of a Yuppie.
If in their 20s, these radicals talked about communes, geodesic domes, the “revolution,” and heavy metal, in their forties, fifties, and sixties they had transmogrified into Yuppie careerists, sensualists, now on their own and in need of enough cash to sustain the extravagant indulgences of the 1960s with refinement. The most ambitious yuppies focused on Wall Street, the corporate boardroom, the media, academia, entertainment, and especially the new Silicon Valley—all the industries and professions geared to take off when the US went global in the 21st century, and all the institutions now mostly absorbed by the Left. Was that the Yuppie legacy? Making lots of money, while subverting what empowered them?
Fine wines, obsessions with diet and “healthy living,” granite counters, stainless steel appliances, wood floors, vacations to Tuscany—supposed upper-middle-class elite tastes were the remnant protests against fast-food America and deplorable fly-over culture. Sixties stuff like Ramparts Magazine and R. Crumb cartoons gave way to House Beautiful and new versions of Esquire and Vanity Fair, with ads about high-priced liquor, clothes, and vacations.
Yuppies were not so political like Hippies, or rather they fused their ideology, such as it was, into mainstream American capitalism. They assumed the country was stuck in a leftist-centrist orbit—Bushes and Clintons—that did not impinge on their personal and financial agendas.
Certainly, read the Democratic platforms at the 1992 and 1996: they are to the right of a John McCain/Mitt Romney/Jeb Bush Rhinoism.
For all the caricatures of the Yuppies, they sort of outsourced the 1980s culture wars to the hard-core, die-hard and remnant Sixites revolutionaries and instead unthinkingly, and without much zeal, just assumed the 1960s radicalism would, here and there, seep in, or was already too deeply imprinted inside the cultural DNA to ever be removed. It would reemerge at the opportune time to add style, panache, and acceptable ways to assuage guilt to Yuppie good life.
Take the career of Barack Obama. He was slightly fake-Sixites in his youth, then full Yuppie. And now he’s gone Puppy-like as murmurs how unfair it is that we did not appreciate all the forces that prevented him from going full woke in 2009.

We aren’t talking about a system that they inherited as part of the settled ways of a secular and always sin-riddled world. We should be slow to condemn churches for not innovating, because the burden of proof is always on the innovator, not on someone who wants to keep the peace, as compromised as it may be.But what about churches that rush to make common cause with the innovators, to be part of the new system? The single most destructive change in my lifetime has been the collapse of the moral sensibility that set marriage as the only right garden for sexual relations between men and women – that sensibility, the customs that gave it flesh and blood, and the statutory laws that flowed from it.As a matter of historical fact, the sensibility took root in America because of the Christian faith, but by no means is it unknown outside of that faith; imagine explaining to an Iroquois maiden two hundred years ago what “sexual freedom” means, and not having her turn away from you in disgust. So we have had sixty years of the promise, exploded almost as soon as it was made, that if we just gave up our “puritanism” – strange, to accuse free-speaking and bawdy Italian Americans and Greek Americans and Spanish Americans and French Americans of being “puritan” – we would be happy and lucky and our children would dance, and all would be well.Who believes it now? Certainly not the makers of opiates. Not even Hollywood, though its denizens do not draw the obvious conclusion from the experiment, that if the patients are as sullen, cynical, mirthless, and angry as their films and television shows make them out to be, then maybe the experiment was a colossal failure.Well then, what of the churches? Most of them, as institutions, hang out the rainbow flag of complete capitulation. You cannot take one step toward rebuilding a culture of marriage if you discard the moral system upon which it is built. The flag is a kind of advertisement. It says, “Here we will not trouble your conscience about the greatest threat to the well-being of our nation, and our most deeply entrenched system of obvious, daily, and widespread wrong.”*It says, “Here we will deflect your attention toward sins you can happily attribute to other people, and not bother yourself.” I am speaking here about everyone, not just about people whose sins against marriage and family take one form rather than another. The churches that have not yielded in publicly promulgated doctrine often yield in practice. I refer to what they do, what they neglect to do, and what they permit the engines of the system to do to them. Our Catholic Church has not cut the catechism’s cloth to fit the times. But Catholic schools have done it: a boy takes a boy to the prom, and if some brave priest objects, he will have the engines of the school, the local news, the city, the state, and the chancery too, moving against him.Since his fellow Catholics cannot call him wrong, they will call him insensitive, when his feelings are not pertinent to the case, and when they themselves are quite insensible to the miseries of broken and never-formed families all around them. But they attack in perfect safety and confidence. They have the tanks, the bombers, and the millions of foot-soldiers. All he has – to speak in a worldly sense – is a shotgun and a dog.And what of their neglect? If we are to have a land fruitful in strong marriages, we must have boys trained up to be men, and girls to be women, and we must bring the young people together. The work is not a matter of books and talking, but of deeds.I am not referring to marriage preparation classes. The work should be in progress long before the boys and girls are even interested in one another. What does he need to know how to do, to be a strong father and husband? What does she need to know how to do, to be a strong mother and wife? How can we build up their imaginations, not only by the books they read but by the deeds they do, so they will understand what they are as boys or as girls, and what marriage is all about? The end is first in architectonic order. Before you lay the foundation, you have to know what you want to build. When it comes to family life, our Catholic institutions have had no aim, so they have laid no foundation; they have allowed the mass phenomena all around us to lay the foundation. Do not expect a cathedral to rise from that. Then comes the surrender. Years ago, rather than fight for decency, the rights of children to a mother and a father, and religious liberty, the Catholic adoption agency in Massachusetts closed shop when the state ordered it to place children with homosexual couples. The system makes the rules of the game, and hires its own umpires to judge. And instead of moving heaven and earth to establish a counter-system in its midst, one that would benefit the nation a hundred times more than it knows how to benefit itself, the leaders of the Church, perhaps more comfortable with the sweet-talking oppressors than with the gritty and unwashed oppressed, wash their hands and say, “We can do nothing here.”As I said, if you want to see a systemic evil, I’ll show you a system. *Image: Venice: Sunset Behind the Church of Santa Maria Della Salute by Edward William Cooke, 1851 [private collection]© 2021 The Catholic Thing. Eeyore ’s Corner: From Hippies to Yuppies to Our PuppiesPart Three: Puppydom
By: Victor Davis Hanson Victor Davis Hanson // Private PapersJuly 10, 2021
The grandchildren of the hippies and the children of the Yuppies? They are a different, a hybrid bunch altogether.
They combine all the worst traits of both leftist eras: selfishness, performance art, the I/me/my/mine self-infatuation (“my story,” “my truth,” “my narrative”), crudity, vulgarity, and rudeness of the 1960s, along with the fixation on class, snobbery, elitism, money, careerism of the 1980s and beyond. And like both Hippies and Yuppies, their prolonged adolescence and child-like self-centeredness are signature traits.
Yet in this most recent manifestation of Leftist identity-searching, hyper-sensitive, fragile, and whimpering puppydom lacks even the small reservoir of good from both prior cultures: Puppies do not like 1960s unfettered expression, at least if it stands in the way of implementing Maoist-like woke correctness. And, they want to scrutinize and audit all Yuppie pleasures, or rather ensure that the grasping middle classes never enjoy these carbon-spewing, planet-heating entitlements.
Perhaps there is no better guide to the logical, but still exasperating metamorphoses of the Hippie worm into the Yuppie chrysalis into the Puppy moth than the late Tom Wolfe. Compare especially his Virgil-like narration of the descent into the Inferno of the nightmarish Sixties with the Merry Pranksters and Ken Kesey bus tour, as related in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
His Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers was a brilliant warning of how the guilt-ridden, elitist, white liberal can destroy the underclass by focusing on its connivers, con artists, and grifters, posing as revolutionaries that help relieve white guilt on the cheap.
In 1987, Wolfe published the previously serialized novel The Bonfire of the Vanities. It became the Blue Guide to Yuppie ridiculousness and the strange mixture of Sixties morals and Eighties money and careerism. And Wolfe managed in 2004 to give us another prescient warning of Puppydom to come with I Am Charlotte Simmons.
Charlotte is the sort of small-town, lower-middle-class white girl, whose hard work and family values earn her a meritocratic spot at a prestigious college—a chance of a lifetime that she would nonetheless have been far better off to pass on. And, the result of her first semesters is that the institutional and cultural forces of the Hippie/ Yuppie fusion teach her about hooking up, about getting ahead on the cheap, about the need for conformity with the race/class/gender orthodoxy, and the scandal, gottcha culture of leveraging some else’s misery.
Again, our current “Puppies” don’t like freedom and “do your own thing.” They hate free speech. In Soviet fashion, they shout down and silence critics.
Rather than posing as radicals on the barricades, they are whimpering and simpering geeks and grouches who ambush on social media, anonymously and in packs. Yet they meltdown when called out (as we see in that teary TikTok video where the erstwhile would-be assaulter weeps that she can’t take being targeted on social media”). Pups like the free love of the 1960s, but now pose as “how dare you!”when the inevitable premodern coupling goes awry. Victorianism, welded onto 60s-style one-night-stands, logically results in crass indulgences, manipulation, and selfish carnality. Their solution to the dilemma, on campus at least, is to suspend the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments in all allegations of sexual impropriety. Think of the culture of Fear of Flying supposedly married to the etiquette and deference within Jane Austen novels.
They are humorless, unyielding, devoid of facts, vindictive, and mostly woke extremists. If they should obtain power? We are assembly-line eggs for their beautiful omelet.
Note, too, that Puppies are Yuppie-like in their snobbery, career fixation, elitism, and infatuation with consumerism, as in the right sneaker, the perfect handbag, the cool casual—expensive—sunglasses and shades look. Puppies are also yuppyish in their New York, Washington, and San Francisco-style power marriages as they put their kids in prep schools, scheme to get them into the Ivy League, and embrace helicopter parenting—all put in service to those in Merced, Toledo, and Tampa, who thus can learn how to turn off those air conditioners, dismantle those jet-skies, sell the Winnebago, and take the middle seat only on full flights.
Yet Puppies, unlike Yuppies, are consumed by politics, the greener and more global the better—but not in the old bipartisan tit-for-tat fashion. Again, they have combined the political tics of the 1960s, with the money and careerism of the 1980s. The result is as off-putting as it is dangerous: a multibillionaire Mark Zuckerberg posing in tie-dye T-shirts and flip-flops as he censors free experiences on his social media and pours $500 million into preselected swing state precincts in efforts to warp the 2020 election.
Or a Bill Gates, paling around with Jeffrey Epstein as he talks down to us on how well a lying China handled Covid-19.
Or we get the smugness of Yuppiedom with Pajama Boy sipping hot chocolate in his footsie PJs and retro glasses, while he spouts off Puppydom Obamacare platitudes.
And, as Wolfe knew, throughout these cycles of leftwing cultural upheaval, there are several constants:One, Hippies, Yuppies, and Puppies despise Middle-American, anti-European lifestyles, tastes, cultures, and politics.
Two, the Hippie, Yuppie, and Puppy rarely suffer the consequences of his own lethal ideologies that more likely fall on the poorer—and the country at large. They are all Platonic Guardians who, if they just had the real power, could turn America into heaven on earth—or else.
Three, beware of our collective Puritan, Progressive, and Enlightenment self-betterment traditions: they can create a Karen-like arrogant obsessiveness, an anal retentiveness, a do-gooder sanctimoniousness, and an enormous sense of guilt that has to be expiated by someone else, someone innocent of such neuroses but deemed a useful scapegoat.
Finally, the Hippie, Yuppie, and Puppy cultures originate among the white, bicoastal upper-middle and professional classes, and they share symptomologies, like boredom with their comfortable upraising, romanticization of the poor and non-white as psychological mechanisms to avoid the guilt of wanting to avoid both. A general ignorance of history that has seen all of them and their cycles before: whether the Dryden-Rousseau romance with the noble savage untainted by civilization, or the foppishness of both Versailles and the go-getters among their revolutionary enemies, or the pandemic of childlessness, of declining marriage, of perpetual schooling, and of AOC-like fears, everywhere in the 21st-century world of well-off Western youth.

THE CATHOLIC MONITOR

Did Anti-Fr. Altmann Bp. Callahan think his Apparent Friend Disgraced Gay Archbishop Rembert Weakland had an Infelicitous “Manner and Tone”?

I'm shocked, shocked to find out that this was going on - Captain Renault | Meme Generator

Fr. James Altman was banished as pastor of his parish and even had his priestly faculties indefinitely suspended by Bishop William P. Callahan for reasons ranging from the incomprehensible to the outrageous. Admonished for his supposedly infelicitous “manner and tone” and accused of a lack of pastoral “efficacy.”

It appears that Callahan didn’t think his apparent friend disgraced gay Archbishop Rembert Weakland had an infelicitous “manner and tone” and a lack of pastoral “efficacy” as revealed by the Badger Catholic website in 2009:

Earlier this week I posted that I had heard that Bishop Callahan would be one possible suitors to the Diocese of La Crosse.  Thanks to a commenter I looked into him further.

Here is a report from May 13, 2009 on Callahan’s response in the wake of Weakland’s book promoting homosexuality.

Callahan said he talked to Former Archbishop Weakland last week, but despite his knowledge of the book, it was not discussed.[ummm that’s a bit strange]  Callahan, who’s known Weakland for years, said he’s surprised by Weakland’s admission that he is gay.  [….soooo, he wasn’t aware he had an affair with a male college student whom he paid millions out of diocesan funds??]  “I think it caught me off guard.  It was not necessarily something I was ready to hear coming from the Archbishop,” Callahan said. [none of us were ready, but “caught off guard” by that revelation?]

WISN 12 News asked Callahan if he thinks the Archdiocese can move on beyond the things Weakland left behind.“Certainly, without a doubt, certainly. The church has moved on for centuries with saints and sinners, and that’s Jesus’ intention,” Callahan said.  [Note Well:]Callahan said Weakland’s legacy in the church is not just his mistakes but also some of the good he did, including shaping the modern mass. He does not expect the Vatican to weight in on the book.

 WISN 12 Milwaukee

Weakland’s legacy is defined by his mistakes.  I would say the appointment of Weakland by Paul VI in the first place has now been proven to be one of several major mistakes.  With his book Weakland becomes tauntingly close to conditions necessary for excommunication.

Let’s just say I hope Callahan is not in the running.   But I did hear his name out there being talked about.  I had thought he was a post-Weakland bishop.  One has to think his association with Weakland makes it very unlikely he would be moved anywhere
.[http://badgercatholic.blogspot.com/2010/05/auxiliary-bishop-william-callahan.html?m=1]

The Catholic website reported Callahan was “surprised” by Weakland’s sinning:

“Callahan, who’s known Weakland for years, said he’s surprised by Weakland’s admission that he is gay.”

It appears that Callahan was also “surprised” and “shocked” by another Weakland-like man in the Church:

The first news about Archbishop McCarrick was indeed shocking and upsetting. That sad news was followed by the revelations concerning the unraveling of the incredible and disgusting stories of sexual molestations that took place over the decades.[https://stpeter.us/bishop-callahans-letter-in-response-to-the-recent-scandals-in-the-church/

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He want you to do now and next. – Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church in such a situation:

Is the Biden Administration ‘Complicit’ in Sex Trafficking of “Epic Proportions” with MS-13-like Border Gangs?

10 Most Dangerous Gangs on Earth | KickassFacts.com
Barrio 18: Meet the terrifying gang that rivals MS-13 | Daily Mail Online

Internationally respected investigator and attorney Elizabeth Yore, an international child protection advocate as well as founder of YoreChildren.com, told Steve Bannon that the “Biden Administration Is ‘Complicit’ In Massive Sex Trafficking Network” of “epic proportions” with “36,000” unaccompanied children crossing the border in “March alone.” [https://rumble.com/vjo8r9-the-biden-administration-is-complicit-in-massive-sex-trafficking-network.html]

In April, Gateway Pundit reported “Nearly 80% of Women and Girls Crossing into the US by Way of Mexico Are Raped or Assaulted”:

Via Eleanor Goldberg at The Huffington Post.

According to a stunning Fusion investigation, 80 percent of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60 percent, according to an Amnesty International report.

This year alone, immigration authorities expect more than 70,000 unaccompanied minors to come through the United States unlawfully, the majority of whom are from Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The number of unaccompanied Central American girls caught at the Southwest border has rapidly outpaced the number boys, according to a July Pew Research study.

Reporter Ben Swan The crisis at the U.S. border continues. Nearly 600 unaccompanied children are crossing the U.S. border everyday. The question virtually no one is asking is how many of these kids are being sexually trafficked and abused along the way.[https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/03/typical-biden-move-nearly-80-women-girls-crossing-us-way-mexico-raped-assaulted/

Most Americans don’t realize how dangerous and corrupt the Mexican border towns are:

When I visited a Mexican border town about 10 years ago to visit a relative of a in-law, the town mayor had just been killed probably by the local Mexican drug cartel.

A friend and relative of mind were attacked and beaten by the border townspeople when they protested about being cheated. Luckily, the Mexican police arrested them and they were able to bribe their way back to the USA.

Even Wikipedia admits that those who traffic in bringing people over the borders called “Coyotes” or “human smugglers” have a “growing association with drug cartels.”

What kind of parents would allow their children to be involved with “human smugglers” and drug cartels or hand them over to them?

In 2018, DHS Secretary Kirsten Nielsen told Breitbart:

“”10,000 of the 12,000 [ children “in the care of HHS right now”] were sent here alone by their parents.”

If anyone in the US handed their children over to “human smugglers” and drug cartels, they would be arrested for child abuse.

The radical gay Washington Blade reported Honduran gays are involved in the Honduran migrants caravan:

“Activists in San Pedro Sula and in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa with whom the Washington Blade spoke last week said upwards of 4,000 migrants are part of the caravan. The activists also said some of the migrants are LGBTI.”

“The Blade’s attempts to speak with LGBTI migrants who are part of the caravan have thus far proven unsuccessful.”

According to a 2018 news report some gays may be involved with human trafficking:

“Government officials in Guatemala were trying to charge the trans women [men] helping to support the children on the journey with ‘human trafficking,'” according to Ferrera Sanchez, but with the help of human rights organizations in the area, these charges were dropped.”

Guatamala officials who accused caravan gays with human trafficking are very knowledgeable about trafficking because the large criminal organization MS-13 in their country is known for this type of criminal activity.

MS-13 which is centered in the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala is getting known for their human trafficking:

“The Mara Salvatrucha, better known by their acronym MS-13, is one of the largest and most violent transnational criminal organizations in the world. Their motto is “Kill, Rape, Control.” Since the 1980s, MS-13 members have typically engaged in a wide range of violent and criminal activity including, drug distribution, murder, rape, prostitution, robbery, home invasions, immigration offenses, kidnapping, carjacking/auto thefts, and vandalism.”

“More recently there has been a rise in MS-13 engaging in human trafficking. MS-13 is found throughout the Americas but they traffick differently in the United States and in the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.”

“In the United States, victims of MS-13 tend to be Latino immigrant girls or girls from the Northern Triangle countries who came into the country as unaccompanied minors. Once the unaccompanied minors are smuggled into the United States, they become prime targets for human trafficking.”

“HHS places minors either in foster care, with family or a sponsor. The majority of unaccompanied minors end up in California, New York, Texas, and the Washington DC area that includes Maryland and Virginia—states that have large Central American populations and thus large MS-13 populations.[1] MS-13 preys on the vulnerability of the unaccompanied minors; some have previously suffered sexual abuse either in their home country or during the trip north; others lack a community and do not speak English. Members of MS-13 seek out the vulnerable young girls using violence and other coercive tactics to intimidate the girl into having sex for money to help financially support the gang.”

“Runaways are also appealing to the MS-13. Family problems, transitions from foster care and economic problems are some of the reasons that unaccompanied minors run away from their homes. Many of the unaccompanied minors may have experienced sexual abuse, exploitation or physical abuse in their home countries or during their migration to the United States and even more suffer from poverty and lack of a stable social network. These are all factors that make young girls more susceptible to human trafficking.”

“Violence against girls and women is widespread in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala—the same nations dominated by MS-13. Women in these countries are disproportionately subjected to domestic violence, sexual abuse and exploitation, sex trafficking and other forms of largely gendered violence.”

Please Circulate

Dear Friends – My thanks to Editor, Louie Verrecchio at AKACATHOLIC [ AKA Catholic]  who has been running my mini-series documenting the influence of the homosexual Catholic hierarchy on the Prolife Movement. If you have ever wondered why the American bishops’ “pro-life” efforts have been such a miserable failure over the past five decades, this series will answer your question. You may be surprised to learn that the “official” prolife efforts of AmChurch over the last fifty years have rarely been out of the hands of  the leaders of the Catholic homosexual hierarchy.

If you have time to read only a part of this series, please make sure it is Part 5 which ends with a special appeal to remember and honor our deceased prolife comrades.

THE NATIONAL PROLIFE ARCHIVE PROJECT seeks to record for posterity the history of the Anti-Abortion/Prolife Movement in the U.S. Please read the details concerning this special  project of the International Catholic Media Association of Chicago at the end of Part V and send in your tax-exempt donation today.  Randy Engel, National Director, U.S. Coalition for Life
