Taxed to the max. In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes. That famous quote, of course, is from Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Among all the problems with the Biden administration’s policy, they even want to raise taxes on your death. That’s a poke in Ben Franklin’s eye. Today’s column is not about Ben Franklin, though it’s worth noting that he, like many of the Founders, was an avid follower of the free-market theories of Adam Smith, published in The Wealth of Nations in 1776. Think about that (we can talk later about whether it’s a coincidence). The real point of this column is to press the question of why taxes matter. They do. A lot. And incentives matter. To quote Art Laffer many years ago: Tax something more, you get less of it. Tax something less, you’ll get more of it. Why? Because in a free economy, which is certainly in line with our Founders’ legacy, we should reward success, not punish it. At the margin, if the extra hour worked, or the extra dollar invested, or the extra business risk taken pays more after-tax, that will propel an economy into prosperity. More work, more investment, more risk, this is why America’s democracy and its founding principles have created the best economy in history. Taxes are not the only factor, but they are a big one. I would suggest five factors right at the top that are a useful intellectual model leading to prosperity. First, low tax rates. Second, minimal regulations. Third, a sound, reliable, King Dollar. Fourth, free trade. Fifth, a strong defense. For men and women in the workforce, or business, or trade, or commerce, or finance, that’s a pretty good checklist to forecast the future. I would add only this: The crucial importance of the Rule of Law. Adam Smith wrote about this at some length in his earlier book, The Theory of Moral Sentiment. It was published six years before Wealth of Nations in 1759. But today, I want to focus on taxes. That’s because the Biden administration has failed to fill in a single check in my prosperity checklist. I would ask my countrymen to think about joining us against the prosperity killers of high taxes, over-regulations, cheap money, uneven trade, and a weaker military budget. Additionally, I believe the principal goal of the Biden administration has nothing to do with growth, but rather arises from a preference for redistributionist policies — to wage class warfare, punish success, elevate big government and the entitlement state, and undermine free enterprise. I believe we can move the needle from prosperity killers to prosperity creators. It is a good time for Americans to review the tax and economy history of the past one hundred years and the policies of Presidents Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump. This is a time to learn the stories of these presidents and to link them to — or unlink them from, as the facts may bear — today’s recovery-killing threats. It’s a time to recall the words of JFK, a Democrat. “Middle and higher-income families are both consumers and investors,” he said. “And the present rates ranging up to 91% not only check consumption but discourage investment, and encourage diversion of funds and effort into activities aimed more at the avoidance of taxes than the efficient production of goods.” And let me add an even pithier quote from one of my former presidential bosses, Ronald Reagan. “Lower tax rates mean greater freedom, and whenever we lower the tax rates, our entire nation is better off.” Those two quotes kind of sum it up. Which is why I wrote JFK and the Reagan Revolution: A Secret History of American Prosperity. The secret has never been more relevant than it is today. Adapted from Mr. Kudlow’s broadcast on Fox News

Joe Biden leads America off the left side of the cliff

● We have a complete meltdown of control at our southern border, with the tragedy of little kids being trafficked as if they were boxes of Mexican fruit – suffering abuse and deprivation; ● The drug cartels are taking advantage of the border breakdown by pouring deadly drugs into our country that is killing people from New York to Oregon; ● Gasoline will soon be double the cost it was a year ago, and some people can’t find a gas station that has any gas left; ● Employers can’t stay open because people are living off government giveaways of stimulus checks and unemployment instead of taking jobs that are available; ● Our schools are still closed in many places because the teachers don’t want to go back to the classroom, and ● The Middle East is being burned down by rockets flown by jihadist terrorists from the Hamas stronghold of Gaza. At the rate he’s going, Joe Biden will make Jimmy Carter become a candidate to become the 5th President on Mt. Rushmore. I admit I didn’t vote for Joe Biden and feared he would lead us off the left side of the cliff, but even I thought it would take longer than 100 days to do it. I’m especially grieved to see the great progress toward peace in the Middle East that was achieved by the historic Abraham Accords replaced by violence, destruction, and death as the terror group Hamas fires thousands of rockets toward civilian targets in Israel. Joe Biden wants to revive the horrible deal with Iran to supposedly cause them to give up building a nuclear weapon, but sensing real weakness on the Biden team has emboldened Iran to buy more rockets for Gaza so they can try to kill Israelis. This at a time when Gaza and the Palestinians could sure use schools, streets, medical care, and jobs. Instead they use the Iranian money and sadly, the money you the American taxpayer gives them to buy bullets, bombs, and rockets to kill Jews in Israel. To his credit, after a few days of silence, President Biden finally called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and publicly acknowledged that Israel has a right to defend itself against these senseless attacks on their sovereign land. For the past four years, Israel was in the most peaceful period of the past decade. President Trump moved the Embassy to Jerusalem just as he had promised and his team tried a completely different approach to peace which resulted in the breakthrough Abraham Accords, which brought about the first peace agreement between Israel and Arab lands in 25 years. As a result, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, and others are now trade partners and tourism partners with Israel with other Arab nations being expected to follow. Joe Biden was in government for almost 50 years. Donald Trump had never held any political office. Sure Trump could be rough around the edges, but when you’re stuck in a long line to get gas that is costing you twice what it did a year ago while listening to the news about the violence in the Middle East and the downturn of our economy, you might want to remember that it’s not the personality of a President that gives our nation its strength, but his policies. And the ones we’re seeing right now just aren’t working out well.
Liz Cheney was removed from her leadership position by the Republican Party on Wednesday mainly because she has spent too much time attacking former President Trump for questioning the results of the 2020 election, and not enough time trying to stop Joe Biden’s agenda. She has said, “there is clearly an attempt to unravel the democracy,…by focusing on challenging the legitimacy of the election.”And that we have “particular obligation to make sure people know the election wasn’t stolen, that we shouldn’t perpetuate ‘the big lie,’.” Donald Trump is not lying when he questions the results of the election. He is making an unsubstantiated claim. And that is an important distinction. Most proven claims of wrongdoing start out as an unsubstantiated claim that with a thorough investigation, and fact finding, is then proven either true or false. Liz Cheney does not know the election was honest with any more certainty than Trump knows it was stolen. Her claims of election integrity are as evidence-free as Trump’s claims of election fraud. And therein lies the problem. Neither side knows the truth. 26 million more votes were cast in 2020 than in any previous Presidential election, so it’s fair to ask whether all 26 million of those new votes were cast legally and legitimately. Election integrity is paramount to a functioning country, and simply stating the election was fair, like Liz Cheney, does not make it fair. That is something dictators do; they make blanket claims of integrity without any evidence to back them up. So, questions about the integrity of an election should not be ignored, or shot down as threats to democracy, they should be fully investigated. Yet we have never had a complete forensic investigation or audit of the 2020 election. So, Liz Cheney’s claim that the election was fair is as unproven as Trump’s claim that it was stolen. Not only were 26 million more votes cast, but we also had unprecedented, unconstitutional, and rushed-thru changes to our election laws in many states, primarily the battleground states, so it only makes sense to conduct a thorough investigation of our elections to determine if these changes hold up to the highest standards of integrity. In 2000, we believed it was right to allow a challenge of the Presidential election all the way to the Supreme Court to ensure that election was fair so the American people would have confidence in our newly elected President. 4 years ago, we thought it was necessary to appoint Robert Mueller to investigate the 2016 election for 2 ½ years for the same reason. So, why isn’t it worth investigating this election? Why are any questions of this election immediately dismissed as lies and attempts to undermine our democracy? Why is every challenge of this election blocked and stonewalled? What are they trying to hide? Regardless of what Liz Cheney says, questioning an election does not undermine our democracy; not investigating potential fraud in an election undermines our democracy. A thorough investigation would answer many of the questions that people have, and it would go a long way to build confidence in our current President, and also help to ensure the integrity of future elections. Transparency is vital to a functioning government, so telling people to look the other way, and don’t ask questions is the exact opposite of transparency. The burden of proof should rest not only on the people charging fraud but also on the government officials claiming integrity. “Not guilty” is not a high enough bar for our elections. We must demand proof of innocence, proof that there was no fraud. Claims of either fraud or legitimacy must be held to the exact same standards of proof when it comes to elections or other governmental functions. That’s what transparency means. This will restore the American citizens’ trust in our elections, as opposed to simply making an unproven claim of integrity like Liz Cheney continues to do. We can never assume anything regarding the integrity of our election system, and we must scrutinize it to the highest degree with the strictest standards. The problem is that the people who are blocking and stonewalling investigations into the 2020 election are the ones pushing Federal changes to our election laws which would remove many of the mechanisms in place that ensure the integrity of the vote. The people who don’t want to investigate potential voter fraud in this past election are also pushing policies that would make it easier to commit voter fraud in future elections. This is not about our past, Donald Trump; this is about our future, our country. The legitimacy of our elections which determines the legitimacy of our government is at stake. We must ensure that not only was the 2020 election legitimate, but safeguard all of our elections moving forward because if we stop having legitimate elections, we will descend into chaos. So, the “big lie” is not the claim that the 2020 election was stolen, or the 2020 election was legitimate. The “big lie” is the charge that questioning the results of an election undermines our democracy because scrutinizing elections makes democracy that much stronger.

What makes this man a national treasure and hero is not just his military service, but his willingness to outline one of the true cancers -Marxism- that is undermining the military ability to function. It is likely Lt Col. Matthew Lohmeier knew what he was saying would mean his targeting and elimination, yet he said it anyway.
(Military.Com) A commander of a U.S. Space Force unit tasked with detecting ballistic missile launches has been fired for comments made during a podcast promoting his new book, which claims Marxist ideologies are becoming prevalent in the United States military.
Lt Col. Matthew Lohmeier, commander of 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado, was relieved from his post Friday by Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, the head of Space Operations Command, over a loss of confidence in his ability to lead, Military.com has exclusively learned.
[…] Earlier this month, Lohmeier, a former instructor and fighter pilot who transferred into the Space Force, self-published a book titled “Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military.”
“Irresistible Revolution is a timely and bold contribution from an active-duty Space Force lieutenant colonel who sees the impact of a neo-Marxist agenda at the ground level within our armed forces,” a description of the book reads. (continue reading)
It is interesting to compare and contrast the military reaction to Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier: “Lt. Gen. Whiting has initiated a Command Directed Investigation on whether these comments constituted prohibited partisan political activity,” against the lack of military reaction to Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (Trump impeachment instigator) who was clearly undertaking “partisan political activity.”
If you consider the 2020 election was a usurpation by elements of the United States government in coordination with political intelligence operatives and leftist organizers; then any action that might uncover the election fraud is now a risk to the entire framework of the U.S. government.
♦The Insurance Policy Theory – The majority of the U.S. military rank and file are patriots; America-first nationalists with a patriotic outlook toward the United States as a constitutional republic. The majority of the military also come from red states. This is an identified risk to the Obama objective of fundamental change. Additionally, thanks in large part to a purge during the Obama era, the majority of the flag officers are not in alignment with the rank and file. This sets the stage for a problem….
WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Friday ordered new steps to tackle the threat posed by extremism in the ranks of the military, including updated screening questionnaires for recruits, a review of the department’s definition of extremism and efforts to prevent veterans from being drawn into violent movements.
The move follows a 60-day stand-down across the armed services that Austin ordered to allow commanders and troops in every unit to discuss how to confront the problem of white supremacist or other extremist ideology within the military. The Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump thrust the issue into the spotlight, as some of the mob were former or current members of the military with links to ultra-rightwing groups.
In a memo Friday to top officials and commanders, Austin said the department was still reviewing the results of the stand-down but he had decided to move ahead with “several immediate steps.”
Under Austin’s instruction, the Pentagon’s top lawyer and other officials will review and update the department’s definition of “prohibited extremist activities” for all service members. Critics have said the Pentagon needs to take into account how extremism has evolved in the digital era, and how some adherents engage in more loosely formed networks.
The secretary also called for updated screening questionnaires for potential recruits to gather information about current or previous extremist behavior ”to ensure that only the best qualified recruits are selected for the services,” according to the memo. (read more)
It is well known and accepted that most of the rank and file military come from Red States, and/or the Southern U.S. region. This has been a reality in the military for as long as I can remember. Again, this is a problem if the government is going to need to weaponize the military against the citizens. Hence, they need to quantify the issue in advance.
[HISTORIC NOTE: This is not the first time the Pentagon has undertaken such an assessment. In the aftermath of the Chinese regular army refusing to turn their fire on the protesting students at Tienanmen Square (remember, the Mongolian divisions were called in); the world noticed. The U.S. Pentagon did a similar internal assessment.]
♦ My prior warning with the examples and citations of data to back-up my prediction are HERE and repeated below:
Considering the specific examples over the past few years, I would argue the Democrats are positioning for use of the military in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act -or- by an expressed act of congress.
Following the evidence to its logical conclusion is simple. The political apparatus of the DC state has framed a fraudulent narrative that “insurrection” against the federal government is an ongoing possibility.
Toward that end the U.S. military national guard troops have been sent to Washington DC indefinitely (current deployment extended through May).
If we consider there is a reasonable argument now surfacing about states choosing to nullify federal laws; and when you consider the likelihood of additional election audits discovering wrongdoing; it is not a stretch to see the insurrection narrative as a proactive assertion to support the deployment of active military against any state, officeholder or entity, who would be non-compliant with the government narrative.
Would this violate the Posse Comitatus Act? Quite possibly, yes; it would depend on whether congress passed an expressed act authorizing military troops against specific action.
When we consider that most of the constitutional checks and balances have been deconstructed or usurped by hardline leftist action; including the weaponization of the intelligence community, and specifically the FBI as a federal law enforcement agency; we are left to recognize that any Posse Comitatus violation would likely be supported by a leftist and aligned media arguing that the military is needed in order to stop a rebellion of states.
If my suspicions/predictions are correct, this would explain exactly why there has been a recent uptick in the visual politicization of the military; including empirical examples of emboldened U.S. military leadership openly engaged in domestic political advocacy against Tucker Carlson.
The marching of the U.S. military through the Capitol building to the offices of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene would be another orchestrated optic sending the same political message.
These are not examples of the military “woke” community advancing political correctness, instead these are examples of advanced politicization of the military (in an open context) in preparation for domestic political use.
The “insurrection narrative” is then considered a seed planted to blossom later in support of the overall agenda and defend against exposure for any election operations.
One of the data-points highlighting future intent was clearly visible and seemingly overlooked by almost all media. It happened when Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman first became a political whistle-blower against the office of President Trump.
It was not the details of the Vindman accusation that stood out, though that was the aspect the media focused on. What was more concerning was the lack of action by the Pentagon after Vindman compromised his position as an advisor to the commander in chief.
2019 – When we consider that Lt. Col. Vindman was carrying out what he believed to be his role; and when you overlay his military purpose; and when we accept Vindman was assisting CIA agent Eric Ciaramella in constructing his dossier to remove President Trump; and when we stand back and look at the aggregate interests involved, including Vindman’s divided loyalties toward a foreign power; and when we consider there was ZERO push-back from the ranks of military leadership, specifically the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and when you accept Vindman was simply allowed to return to his post inside the White House – where he remains today; well, the alarming aspect increases in direct proportion to the definition of the word: “coup”.
I would encourage all readers to think long and hard those factual data-points.
Despite his admitted usurpation of President Trump policy, Vindman was sent back to his post in the NSC with the full support of the United States Department of Defense.
The onus of action to remove Vindman from the NSC did not lay at the feet of the White House and National Security advisor Robert O’Brien; upon whose action the removal of Vindman could be positioned as political. The necessary obligation to remove Lt. Col Vindman resides purposefully with the Dept. of Defense.
The Pentagon could easily withdraw Vindman from his position at the National Security Council; yet, it does not…. and it has not. WHY?
There is a code within the military whereby you never put your leadership into a position of compromise; ie. “never compromise your leadership”.
In this example, President Trump cannot remove Vindman from the White House NSC advisory group due to political ramifications and appearances… The Joint Chiefs certainly recognize this issue; it is the very type of compromise they are trained to remove. Yet they do nothing to remove the compromise. They do nothing to assist.
Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was the majority (#1) source for the material CIA operative Eric Ciaramella used in a collaborative effort to remove President Trump from office. Let me make this implication crystal clear:
The United States Military appears to be collaborating with the CIA to remove a U.S. President from office.
The Pentagon has done nothing, absolutely nothing, to countermand this implication. The Secretary of Defense has done nothing to remove the conflict that Vindman represents within the National Security Council. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have done nothing, absolutely nothing, to diminish the appearance of an agenda toward the removal of President Trump.
This is not a complex issue.
No-one in the foreign policy group is going to take any advice or opinion from Vindman. No-one is going to allow him to engage in material of a sensitive or confidential nature. Lt. Col. Vindman has compromised himself; and therefore eliminated any usefulness to his prior assignment. Yet his command does nothing? (more)
That was the alarming lack of action from the Pentagon everyone seemed to overlook. Why did senior military leadership not remove Vindman from his post at the White House once he clearly compromised his ability to carry out his duty? Their lack of action was stunning when you consider their primary obligation.
Fast forward to 2021 and now a very political military officer, General Russel Honore’, is appointed by Nancy Pelosi to be in charge of the military deployment around Washington DC.
When you consider the political ramifications of the military supporting a false narrative, this is more than just another data-point. Then the military openly attacked the position of Tucker Carlson based entirely on political ideology.
The increased frequency of the military being politicized is what leads me to believe this phase is all just a public relations pre-positioning. I fully expect to see the standing U.S. military deployed against any state who stands up against unconstitutional federal demands… That will be when the U.S. military is held as a compliance activation against any rebellious state.
Bottom line… The American electorate are being positioned to accept deployment of the U.S. military against U.S. citizens, under the guise of insurrection and/or a public threat. That is why we are seeing so much willful politicization of the military.
Under this premise the activity by Liz Cheney, and other Intelligence Community connected actors, starts to take on a new perspective.
Election ballot audits would be a very real threat…. And the media is certainly acting like state election audits are a very real threat.

Editor’s Note: One of the key indicators of the pandemic insanity presently infecting our “enlightened” society is the war on law and order, specifically the push by communist agitators posing as social justice warriors to defund and disband the police. The same radicals that years ago decided parental discipline is detrimental to the self-esteem of children, now assume the preposterous position of judging those whose job is to police the urban chaos the “progressive” policies created. And rather than admitting to the colossal failure of their own harebrained schemes, the “progressives” blame the cops to the point of making it nearly impossible for them to do their job. But the “progressives” idealogues don’t actually intend to disband the police. Once every homegrown, hometown, American-born cop has left the beat in disgust over the bureaucratic hogwash he’s got to endure on a daily basis, the push will be to bring in the “replacements”, i.e., the national and even international troops of the police state. One of the things we can do to prevent this and, by the way, stall The Great Reset in the process, is to back the blue. And that’s exactly what we’re doing with this new Remnant series. Good cops are the last line of defense and the only thing that stands between us and the police state of the New World Order.
—Calling All Cops—
I’m asking Remnant readers to get the word out to police officers and their spouses—Catholic or not—to share their stories with us, or to sit for a Remnant interview, or at least to submit the names and accounts of fallen police officers whom we will then honor in this new Remnant series. The cops are not the problem in the streets of America today. The politicians and their globalist puppeteers are. MJM
An Interview with Maj. Christopher J. Barca
Christopher J. Barca still remembers the moment he knew he would be a police officer. He was about five years old and was home alone with his older sister while their parents were at a dinner. Suddenly, there was a loud rapping on a back window. Young Chris Barca raised the shade to find a man with his face to the glass, looking inside. Barca dropped the shade back and called the police. Within minutes, an officer had arrived.
“I’ll never forget the sense of safety and security I felt when the officer was standing in our doorway, telling us he would keep watch over us that night,” Barca says. “I didn’t want him to leave.”
Later that night, Barca was lying in bed right beside the window where the man—who later turned out to be his brother’s friend playing a prank—had been peering in a couple of hours before. Unable to sleep, Barca was surprised to find his room suddenly filled with light. He looked outside to see the police officer who promised to look after him driving slowly by their house in his patrol car. He was shining his searchlight on the house, keeping watch as he’d said.
“The officer must have seen me in the window,” Barca recalls. “He flashed his blue lights and I knew that all would be well.”
Young Officer Barca
From that night until his retirement from the Palm Beach Gardens police department in 2017, Christopher Barca dedicated his life to his calling, police work. He never wavered in his resolve to join the police force, going through grade school, high school, and then college with the singular purpose to be a cop. Later, in his own patrol car, he used to drive through neighborhoods in the small hours of the night and say silently to the people in the houses, “Sleep soundly. I am looking out for you.” Protecting and serving his community is the entire reason Barca wanted to join the force.
I gave everything I could to the job and to my fellow citizens,” says Barca.
But he never had any illusions that being a police officer would win him friends. “The first day at police academy,” Barca relates, “our instructor told us that we should not expect to be thanked or liked for the job we were training to do.” The instructor’s words stuck with Barca: “If you want to be treated like a hero, go down the hall and join the fire department.” Anyone who goes through police academy and then starts working a beat learns quickly that the community doesn’t always appreciate being protected and served, Barca says. But police officers keep going out on patrol because they are dedicated to helping others.
“I gave everything I could to the job and to my fellow citizens,” says Barca. His record of service is exemplary: in addition to his police work, he has completed training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico and at the Department of Homeland Security, and in the United States Coast Guard Reserve he attended Port Security A School. Barca is SWAT certified. He has worked security details for visiting dignitaries, including presidents, and has been a part of anti-narcotics operations, arrests of armed-and-dangerous criminals, and takedowns of organized crime rings. Police work is dangerous, but Barca seems to have chosen the most dangerous and the least visible assignments of all.
He attributes his safety through all of this to the power of the rosary. “I carried a rosary in my breast pocket,” Barca remembers. “During the last ten years of my career, I took time during my breaks to pray the rosary every day.”
The Barca Family
Even though Barca knew full well that being a police officer would bring plenty of risk and few rewards, he says that he has been dismayed these past few years to find himself and his fellow officers, not just disliked, but vilified.
“I’ve lost sleep since retiring in 2017,” Barca tells me. After the shootings of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown—and with the encouragement of left-wing activists and politicians—Barca says that what started as racially-charged protests in America changed into anti-police broadsides. “I don’t know how people could be doing the job right now,” Barca says. He recalls the 1960s, when Black Panther members were assassinating police officers in the streets of New York City in cold blood. “A police officer always has a target on his or her back,” Barca relates. But these past few years the media and the left-wing political establishment, including academia, have fueled an ongoing attack on authority in general, especially the police.
For Barca, Black Lives Matter is part of an attempt to clear the United States of police officers, or at least so weaken police forces that violent Marxist revolutionaries will be able to succeed in taking over the country.
I got to know Barca after he contacted me recently. He had read a piece I had written for Crisis in which I’d referred to Black Lives Matter as a Marxist terrorist organization. His assessment is the same as mine. For Barca, Black Lives Matter is part of an attempt to clear the United States of police officers, or at least so weaken police forces that violent Marxist revolutionaries will be able to succeed in taking over the country. Barca understands that BLM foundress Patrisse Cullors has boasted of being a “trained Marxist,” and that she was schooled by Eric Mann, an ex-convict and domestic terrorist who worked alongside Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
Ayers and Dohrn, readers will remember, were part of the Weather Underground terrorist organization. The Weather Underground carried out a series of bombings and murders and left a trail of dead police officers and security personnel in their wake. They enjoyed using the slur “pigs” to refer to police, and their favorite target was a statue honoring police officers slain by violent terrorists at Haymarket.
In all of this, the Barcas wanted to turn to the Church—but Barca says that he feels the Church abandoned him.
Ayers was a distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois. Dohrn was a clinical associate professor of law at Northwestern University. Barca lives near a college town now and says that he gets nasty looks and gestures from students almost every day when they see the “support the police” decal on his car. The hatred for the police that the media gins up in the streets is taught openly in academia, sometimes by the very people who targeted the police.
The general breakdown in public morality goes all the way to the top. Vice President Kamala Harris tells sexual-assailant Jacob Blake that she is “proud” of him. George Floyd, who held a pregnant woman at gunpoint during an armed robbery, is lionized as a great American, and sitting members of Congress issue thinly-veiled threats to jurors trying a police officer for Floyd’s murder.
But Barca sees an even more disturbing pattern to Black Lives Matter and the general leftist disdain for authority. In his police work, Barca has encountered many criminals who are involved in the occult. Television shows today openly glorify Satanism, and “After-School Satan” clubs are proliferating at American schools. Teachers at a public school in Madison, Wisconsin, harass Christian students having prayerful lunches at a park in town. Drag Queen Story Hours for toddlers have become a staple in Democrat-controlled school districts. Requests for exorcisms are skyrocketing and dark forces appear to be emboldened by the cultural acceptance of the demonic.
It was a powerful reminder that we must cling to Christ and the Cross,” Barca says.
Barca’s wife runs a popular Catholic YouTube channel, “A Catholic Wife”. (https://youtube.com/c/ACatholicWife) When Mrs. Barca posted comments critical of Black Lives Matter, she received “dozens” of death threats and messages hoping that she and her daughter would be raped.
Officer and Mrs. Barca
In all of this, the Barcas wanted to turn to the Church—but Barca says that he feels the Church abandoned him. “I saw Catholic prelates kneeling with their fists in the air,” Barca says. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement supporting BLM. Priests and bishops were openly siding with a Marxist terrorist group rooted in the occult and in the general secularist assault on faith and order. Priests are also called to protect and serve. Across the board, it seems that a life of sacrifice and self-denial is mocked in the USA.
“It was a powerful reminder that we must cling to Christ and the Cross,” Barca says. At the hour when darkness is ascendant in America, he saw Churchmen glorifying works of evil, and living in lies. Even EWTN host Gloria Purvis took up the call to “defund the police” and voiced her support of BLM (which, not coincidentally, is deeply enmeshed in the homosexual agenda). When EWTN finally fired Purvis, celebrities and noted “Catholics” denounced EWTN and vowed never to donate to the network again. The breakdown of Catholicism in America has been, for Barca, even harder to witness than the attacks on his beloved calling, the service and protection of others as a police officer.
Finally, I ask Barca what he thinks about the future of America. He says he has been grateful to Michael Matt and The Remnant for keeping the Faith and speaking up for those who serve, including the police. That kind of hope is sorely needed now, Barca remarks.
“The left has taken over everything,” Barca says. “Barring a miracle, I don’t know how we will get our country back.” ___________

To Serve and Protect: The Truth about Police in America
Oppression is defined by Webster’s as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control. The word is thrown around to represent some perceived mass movement on the part of white America to keep blacks downtrodden and subservient. The logic being that white people are fearful that they are losing control of their lives and country. The Democrats promote this supposed subjugation as being the result of systemic racism. I have long wondered how we could see so many rich black people if they are truly oppressed. Why are more and more blacks finding success and moving into the suburbs of America if they have no opportunity? Why do we see so many black career military officers if they have no chance of success? The obvious answer is that we aren’t supposed to notice or think about the upward mobility of the millions of blacks who have worked hard, studied, and become successful. Their stories of success just don’t square with the Democrats’ ongoing narrative. Certainly, there are blacks that live in miserable environments to which most of us wouldn’t subject our pets. The same can be said for millions of white Americans in some parts of our country. Poverty and human misery aren’t the exclusive possession of the black race. W.E.B. DuBois was a black writer, teacher, sociologist, and activist whose work transformed the way the lives of black citizens were viewed. DuBois is probably best known for advancing the concept of the “talented tenth.” He believed that full citizenship and equal rights for blacks would be brought about through the efforts of the intellectual elites within the black community. DuBois probably got the numbers about right. It’s probably accurate to state that about ten percent of the black population in the United States has achieved educational and/or economic success. Many enjoy the social experience of living outside the “black bubble” that keeps most black citizens segregated in their own communities and churches. Where DuBois’s theory went astray is in believing that the ten percent of successful blacks could or would somehow influence the overall black community to strive to achieve success. It just hasn’t happened. Typically, when a black person finds success, he or she physically and intellectually moves into the larger world. Rarely do successful blacks make any great effort to help those in the community they leave behind. Thus there are two distinct groups within black society: those who remain mired in their misery and those who live within the mainstream of society. Typically, these two groups have about as much in common as apples and oranges. What DuBois failed to consider in his theory was that black success breeds black resentment. Blacks who are successful and display conservative values are viewed as traitors to their race. Also, he couldn’t know that the Democrat/Socialist Party would work so persistently to keep the lower class blacks in perpetual bondage to a government system. A system that houses, feeds, and treats blacks much as if they were caged animals in a zoo, but without onlookers to see them on exhibit. The initial Civil Rights Act and everything that has followed has been geared to allow blacks to choose their own destiny. The prevailing problem is that far too many have chosen to take the course of least resistance and remain in their self-imposed, segregated, closed society. Then almost without exception, they blame white America for their circumstances. At this point, it should be noted that old white men don’t impregnate young black girls who are either having illegitimate children or aborting them. Old white men don’t go to inner-city schools and steal the textbooks. Old white men don’t force young black men to kill other black youths to achieve some kind of turf bragging rights. The Democrat/socialists, race-baiters and fomenters, and the various black advocate groups can blame white America for the plight of the black community until Hades becomes an ice skating rink. Their chatter will change nothing until each individual human decides he or she wants something better for themselves. That is the inconvenient truth! Now that the Spring Semester has come to a close and I have submitted final grades for my students, I find myself struggling and trying to understand many of the things that are going on around me in the world. Here are some of them: 1. I listened to President Biden respond to a question about why the price of gasoline at the pump had increased nationally by 67% and in my neck of the woods even higher. Almost as if he expected the question, he quickly responded that the increase was attributable to the Colonial Pipeline shut down due to a cyber-security attack by criminals who live in Russia. Of course, this is a blatant falsehood. Costs have been rising steadily all across the nation ever since Biden canceled the Keystone XL Pipeline a few hours after he took office and then disallowed oil and gas exploration o federal lands or offshore. These facts alone contributed to significant cost increases due to the cost of transporting oil from Alberta Canada to US Refineries via truck and rail. In addition, with the stroke of his pen, Biden wiped away decades of work and effort, culminating in the United States achieving complete energy independence. Indeed, under Trump, America for the first time in history became an oil-exporting rather than importing nation. Given our vulnerabilities to cyberattacks on our oil and gas delivery systems, shouldn’t we be building more pipelines, not cutting back on our system of delivery? 2. Of course there is the argument posed by the liberal progressives on the left that Biden’s decision was necessary as an important first step toward weaning our nation off from fossil fuels and transforming America quickly to the use of battery-powered electrical vehicles. Putting aside the important essential about just how batteries are produced, has anyone thought through just what would occur if, for example, electric cars were jammed on major travel roads like the Cross Bronx Expressway in New York; the Long Island Expressway, the infamous 405 connecting San Diego and Los Angeles and many other highly traveled roads. Cars breaking down in need of recharging and an inability of road service to get to them because of the congestion. It is really a simple, straightforward question so vitally necessary in forward-thinking planning. I’ll wait for an answer….. 3. Imagine if you will, that you are a young college-educated employee in his or her first job. You are making $50,000 per year or $961.54 per week but are laid off due to the pandemic. You file for unemployment, are approved for $400 per week tax-free, and the Federal Government chips in another $300 per week until September 2021, approximately four months from now. So now you are making $700 per week tax-free sitting home, going to the beach (it is now summer), and hanging out with your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend. Your employer calls and asks you to come back to work at your old salary. What would you do? I’ll bet you would opt to continue on unemployment which is what most people are in fact doing, and it is perfectly understandable. Our government has created a system that rewards people to not work and that is undemocratic as well as ill-advised in terms of economics. 4. Yes, indeed good ol’ Joe Biden speaks to us in a calm, easy style quite unlike that curmudgeon Donald Trump who sometimes (heaven forbid) got angry and yelled at people. He even dared to send mean tweets and Facebook posts. Oh, my goodness! Maybe it is so nice listening to calm, soothing good ol’ Joe from Scranton PA, but I’m having a tough time reconciling what he says with what is happening in the world under Biden versus what it was under Trump. For example: ● Trump, unlike all his predecessors, created peace in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords with Arab and Muslim nations, for the first time, opening trade and commerce with Israel. Today, calm and folksy Joe Biden is now dealing with a possible full-scale war between Israel and the Palestinians. That did not occur under Trump, and indeed, would not occur under Trump. ● Biden desperately wants to re-institute the Iran Nuclear Agreement which Obama pioneered. He has removed sanctions with Iran and is considering releasing about $1.0 billion in funds held by the U.S. It remains to be seen what we will get in return for this goodwill. If Iran holds true to form, we will end up getting nothing. Trump walked away from Iran and the Obama Nuclear pact because it was, and still is, a pathway for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb which they have repeatedly said they would use against Israel. ● The U.S. Navy stopped a huge cargo ship containing weapons, anti-tank missiles, and other hardware destined for the Houthi Rebels in Yemen who are waging war against Saudi Arabia, our ally. Those weapons came from Iran. And Biden wants to reopen negotiations with this rogue state? Doesn’t make sense to me. ● Joe Biden says he is a practicing Roman Catholic. Yet he unilaterally negated the Mexico Accord making abortions in foreign nations U.S.Taxpayer funded. Why would Biden take such a step without any clamoring from citizens demanding it? ● We have been fed a steady diet of media hype such as the American Rescue Plan; the Family Plan and the Infrastructure Plan, each costing trillions of dollars…money we don’t have. Billions of dollars embedded in these plans include gifts…grants… to foreign nations, some of whom don’t like us very much. I’m wondering…are there nations in Europe or Asia whose citizens pay taxes to their respective governments who, in turn, give aid to America? Many of America’s homeless are veterans who risked their lives to ensure those nations had freedom and came back home with profound disabilities. Some did not return at all. Do we ever receive any grants and gifts from these nations? Asking for a friend……. ● I am still puzzled by the fact that doctors at Bethesda Naval Hospital have not given President Biden a complete physical and disclosed to we the people that our President is “fit for duty” physically and mentally. Aren’t we entitled to this? Keep in mind that Joe Biden suffered two….two…subarachnoid hemorrhages (bleeds in the brain) usually requiring lifelong medications and continual monitoring. Do we know what medications he is taking? Is he fit to be the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces? He seems to be having difficulty speaking and focusing, and I do not believe I am the only one concerned about this. ● If you have children or grandchildren you should be enraged by what is happening in terms of educating our children. Today, our children are being exposed to Critical Race Theory and Cancel Culture. They are being taught to hate our country and to view everything through the spectrum of race. CRT and Cancel Culture are essentially un-American and un-democratic. They are rooted in Marxist/Socialist/Communist Ideology and you need to stand up and express your displeasure with these ridiculous curriculums. ● The real existential threat to the United States is not climate change. The real threat is China. And we need to unite ad bid together to meet this threat head-on. Climate Change is not real. It is unsettled science and advocates and town criers like John Kerry, perhaps the most dangerous man in America, need to shut up and stay home. How about a nationally televised debate on climate change moderated by independent scientists. Seems to me we ought to have the opportunity to consider the arguments from both sides before spending trillions and changing the face of our nation. ● Finally, notwithstanding the decision by the CDC and President Biden to state that citizens who are vaccinated need not wear mass outside or inside anymore, Dr. Fauci had to chime in. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the NIH stated unequivocally that children should still wear masks when playing outside. I find that inexplicable. Dr. Fauci once played basketball in high school in New York City. I wonder how he would feel about playing basketball wearing a mask? I wonder if he heard about the female high school 800-meter runner who was forced to wear a mask and collapsed at the finish line. Maybe the Prophet of Doom ought to think before he makes such proclamations. Yes, indeed, a number of puzzling things going on.
Posted inUncategorized|Comments Off on I find myself struggling and trying to understand many of the things that are going on around me in the world.
At 10 or 11, we graduated to do more of the shooting—with more of the same repetitious caveats, “Never shoot a bird on the wire.” I shot instead cottontails with another of my dad’s ancient guns, a 1890 Winchester .22 pump. I brought the carcasses to my grandfather around 5 PM on weekends. He paid a dollar for each, and skinned two or three. And my sainted grandparents fried them for dinner. Once at 13 I shot a pregnant possum and collected the babies that emerged alive. No need to go on. But, after that, I quit shooting for six months. Then I began noticing quite abruptly that rabbits shrieked when hit—if you listen. They cry out in a shrill human-like voice. After that, I quit hunting them altogether and have never shot one since. I later cursed myself for shooting any of them, even when they devoured the shoots in the young vineyard. So I mostly liked all the animals or at least liked them enough not to kill them. One exception though: In my teens, my grandfather kindly asked me to kill flicker woodpeckers who destroyed the barn siding. Their descendants still do. I had shot 10 or so in my lifetime, but the holes in the barn always just got bigger. Now, I mostly let them drill the same barn all day long and patch their damage. Why kill a woodpecker in 2021, when they are up against the same things we are? Tonight, I walked the Queensland heelers and saw in succession more coyotes, the two kestrels (fancy words for canny sparrow hawks), the huge sneaky, duplicitous, conniving great horned owl mute on an almond trunk, as if no one can see him in the shadows (his excrement is full of the most interesting skeletons). A pit bull, dumped and gone wild, lingers around. He should seem scary, roaming the orchards without a collar and probably not vaxxed. But when he nears us, it is more like he smells food on the dogs and wants in on it. I’ve never seen a wild pitbull who wishes to be neither a pitbull nor wild, but just one of the quieter gang. No matter, the dogs shoo him away. Then, presto, a rare gopher snake. He was immobile, either half-dead or faking such on the alleyway. I caught him and put him into a squirrel’s hole, so the tractor wouldn’t smash him the next morning. He even hesitated to slither in. The nearby Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus—or the “plover”) appeared out of nowhere as if his fake deceptive hops would lead the snake away from her eggs on the berm. There is not much to a kildeer’s nest. They simply lay eggs on some straw and the dirt and then patrol about. When they see you approaching, they squeak “kill-dee,” “kill-dee.” Then the act gets really interesting. They hop about in front of you, quite badly faking a broken wing or sprained leg. They think the dog, the squirrel, or the owl are stupid. (are they?) So their enemies will mindlessly for the nth time follow them and almost devour them (as a kid I too always was conned and would be pied-pipered away for hundreds of yards, always 4-feet short of his tail, never noticing that the speed of the hops was calibrated to my proximity). Their idiot predators, after millennia I guess, never caught on that if they would go in the exact opposite direction, ignore their “I’m so hurt that you’ll probably catch and eat me” schtick, then the coyote and owl will always find their bright, tasty eggs. I confess I like these (often incompetent) fakers of the animal kingdom: the “hidden” owl that a fool can spot; the “frozen” snake who got his camouflage mixed up; the limp coyotes who never quite lead the dogs into a full ambush; the fake Red-tails who befriend you and then bolt; and these fake Killdeers who remind me of the high-school linebacker, who always had a sprained ankle predictably 10 minutes before kickoff time. Sixty years have vanished, and I guess I have regressed to seven again, same place, same animals, same story, same me, nothing more. I can’t tell whether the animals are the great-great something of their long-dead ancestors of the 1950s, or simply became divine and are deathless and the same creatures. This lockdown proved not so awful in that it reminded me after a year, there is nature; there is the soil; there is the farm. Not much else matters in the end for us renters, who enter and exit the stage rather rapidly. Is it so bad to come full circle and end as you started? Bumblebees hover and buzz the porch. My wife asked me who or what they were? I told her that the fakers owned the place. I knew these guys, and their great grandparents to the 50th degree and so knew their con too. When I was five, it was the same two bumblebees, same place, same faux menacing, some loud buzzing, same posturing pair who would never sting you. For all the urbanization, the vandalism, the end of days pessimism, the animals do survive. They never leave. I learned a lot from animals. They move seconds before we can hear or see or smell why. They have personalities too. Those two Red-tails follow us as we walk, soaring right overhead as if to signal, “Don’t worry, you fools, we know you won’t’ shoot at us like the vandals from town have. We’re guiding you home. It’s just our way of doing things. But don’t count on us following you for too long. In the end, we can’t afford to be your friends.” About a month ago, the bolder Red-tail flew about 10 feet above my head for about 200 yards. I remember Roman omens, but forgot whether it was good or bad when the eagle flew perpendicular or parallel—whether to cross or not the Rubicon? The surrealism was ruined when a crow attacked him and drove him off, a nasty FW-190 turning inside circles on a lumbering B-17. I have an older brother who grew up here and became a writer. He too absorbed the animals and the domesticated ones too: the rabbits in my grandfather’s cage, the chickens in the coop, Jack the donkey and the pony, Jim, in the barn, and the lassie dog. He has written children’s creature poems as if they were wise guy philosophers, lizards, and such. I never asked him why, but I wonder whether he too remembers the magical child’s garden of the 1950s, in what my grandfather (1890-1976) and grandmother (1891-1983), the third generation who lived in this house, used to call, “Our own little paradise out here” And it was, or at least it seems so now. The book was called What the Lizard Said.

(NewsReady.com) – Dr. Anthony Fauci has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, nearly 40 years. Republicans believe that’s too long for anyone to lead the health agency and they want to impose term limits that will end the doctor’s tenure.
On Wednesday, March 12, Fox News published the first version of the Fauci’s Incompetence Requires Early Dismissal (FIRED) Act ahead of its introduction to Congress. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) sponsored the legislation and Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Chip Roy (R-TX), and Ralph Norman (R-SC) co-sponsored it. The bill would impose a retroactive 12-year term limit on the position of NIAID director, essentially firing Fauci.h
Davidson told Fox News that “few people have earned their termination more visibly” than Fauci. On Twitter, the congressman said firing the “anti-science” doctor will help restore the American people’s freedoms. After more than a year of restrictions, many feel that’s sorely needed.
