Laying Siege to the Institutions

Christopher F. Rufo

Founder and Director, Battlefront

The following is adapted from a speech delivered at Hillsdale College on April 5, 2022, during a two-week teaching residency at Hillsdale as a Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Journalism.

Why do I say that we need to lay siege to our institutions? Because of what has happened to our institutions since the 1960s.

The 1960s saw the rise of new and radical ideologies in America that now seem commonplace—ideologies based on ideas like identity politics and cultural revolution. There is a direct line between those ideas born in the ’60s and the public policies being adopted today in leftist-run cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago.

The leftist dream of a working-class rebellion in America fizzled after the ’60s. By the mid-1970s, radical groups like the Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground had faded from prominence. But the leftist dreamers didn’t give up. Abandoning hope of a Russian-style revolution, they settled on a more sophisticated strategy—waging a revolution not of the proletariat, but of the elites, and specifically of the knowledge elites. It would proceed not by taking over the means of production, but by taking control of education and culture—a strategy that German Marxist Rudi Dutschke, a student activist in the 1960s, called “the long march through the institutions.”

This idea is traceable to Italian communist Antonio Gramsci, who wrote in the 1930s of “capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches, and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.”

This march through our institutions, begun a half-century ago, has now proved largely successful. Over the past two years, I’ve looked at the federal bureaucracy, the universities, K-12 schools, and big corporations. And what I’ve found is that the revolutionary ideas of the ’60s have been repackaged, repurposed, and injected into American life at the institutional level.

Most Americans are shocked to discover this. We’ve all seen the outrage of parents over the past two years as they learned that their young children were being divided according to their skin color and deemed oppressed or oppressors in public school classrooms. Parents began expressing their outrage against critical race theory not only in school board meetings, but at the polls. This made big news in last year’s gubernatorial election in Virginia, and the demographic of the now-widespread voter rebellion shows that it crosses party lines.

The Case of the Disney Company

There has been a similar response following the more recent revelations about the Walt Disney Company—a company founded 99 years ago and associated in the public mind with wholesome family entertainment.

I’ve been reporting on Disney for more than a year, and I have good sources inside the company. I broke a story last year about Disney forcing employees to engage in a critical race theory training program that denounced America as fundamentally racist, had its white employees complete a “white privilege checklist,” and included exercises on “decolonizing” bookshelves.

Disney’s first reaction was to deflect. In response to accusations of racism, the company issued a press release denying the charge. Incredibly, it offered as proof the fact that it had produced the movie Black Panther—a kind of corporate variation on “I’m not racist, some of my best friends are black.” This ridiculous response suggests that Disney executives were caught totally off guard. The elites who run our institutions, after all, are not accustomed to being challenged.

Disney eventually deleted information on the controversial training program from its internal website. But all things remaining the same, the program will resurface. This wasn’t, after all, a case of well-intentioned people making a mistake. Leftist ideologies are now baked into the structures of these institutions.

A much bigger controversy began when the Disney Company waded into a political fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis had signed a bill, passed by the state legislature, that prohibited teaching about gender ideology, sexual orientation, and sexuality in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade classrooms. Despite the fact that its opponents gave this bill an intentionally misleading name—the “Don’t Say Gay” bill—it is supported, depending on the questions used by pollsters, by between 60 and 80 percent of Floridians.

Acting against its own apparent business interest, Disney—the most famous children’s entertainment corporation in history—came out publicly in opposition to this bill banning discussions of gender identity in elementary classrooms prior to the fourth grade. In an official statement, it declared that the company’s goal was “for this law to be repealed . . . or struck down in the courts.”

Shortly thereafter, my sources at Disney leaked a video to me of an hour-and-40-minute company-wide meeting about the controversy. And what did the video reveal? In a series of unedited clips that I released on social media, an executive producer at Disney said that she had been inserting what she called a “not-so-secret gay agenda” into children’s programming, targeting kids as young as two years old, and had experienced no pushback. A production coordinator said that he had created a tracking program to make sure that the company was including enough transgender, non-binary, and asexual characters. The president of Disney’s general entertainment content referenced a Disney initiative declaring that “50 percent of regular and recurring characters across Disney General Entertainment will come from underrepresented groups.” And a diversity and inclusion manager talked about the company’s new policy of doing away with the terms “ladies and gentlemen” and “boys and girls” at Disney theme parks.

These discussions weren’t taking place in an Ivy League faculty lounge, but among high-level executives at Walt Disney. Americans were shocked, and rightfully so. The unmistakable gist of the video was that Disney was secretly trying to change, in a fundamental way, how children think about sexuality by engineering a narrative based on gender ideology.

Disney executives had marched into this controversy beating their chests, talking trash to Governor DeSantis, and committing the company to the overthrow of the bill protecting young children. But the leaked videos quickly generated over 100 million media impressions, and with public opinion heavily on the other side—not only in Florida, but nationwide—Disney was pummeled. People started canceling their subscriptions to Disney’s streaming service, canceling planned trips to Disney theme parks, canceling Disney cruises, and thinking twice about letting their children watch Disney movies.

Elected officials noticed, too. The Florida legislature and Governor DeSantis have already revoked the special governance and tax status Disney has enjoyed since the 1960s. Disney’s stock value plummeted nearly $50 billion in less than two months. And now Members of Congress are asking why Disney deserves automatic copyright extensions on things like Mickey Mouse—copyrights that customarily have a 28-year limit. If Congress lets Disney’s various copyrights expire next year, it will cost Disney additional multiple billions of dollars.

Doing further research into Disney’s track record regarding children and sexual predators, by the way, I discovered that the company has a notorious pattern, going back over a decade, of having a significant number of its employees arrested for child sex crimes such as child pornography, child exploitation, and child rape. And although a company can’t be held responsible for everything its employees do on their own time, I was able to find two cases of Disney complicity. In the first, Disney authorities allegedly told a Disney security guard to keep her mouth shut when she discovered that a Disney employee was molesting a young boy on a Disney cruise ship. This allowed the employee to evade arrest, after which Disney flew him back home to India so he couldn’t be held accountable. In the other case, I found that the cruise trade association of which Disney is a member had opposed and then helped water down legislation that would have required Disney and other cruise lines to report sexual abuse on their cruise ships in a timely manner.

In summary, Disney’s record on the issue of children and sexuality casts doubt on its claim to moral authority.

The lesson I’ve drawn from reporting on institutions that promote ideologies such as critical race theory and radical gender theory is that they have been captured at the structural level and can’t be reformed from within. So the solution is not a long counter-march through the institutions. You can’t replace bad directors of diversity, equity, and inclusion with good ones. The ideology is baked in. That’s why I call for a siege strategy.

This means, first, that you have to be aggressive. You have to fight on terms that you define. In responding to opponents of the Florida bill, for instance, don’t argue against “teaching diversity and inclusion,” but against sexualizing young children. And don’t pull your punches. We will never win if we play by the rules set by the elites who are undermining our country. We can be polite and lose every battle or we can be impolite and actually deliver results for the great majority of Americans who are fighting for their small businesses, fighting for their jobs, fighting for their families.

Second, you have to mobilize popular support. This requires ripping the veil off of what our institutions are doing through real investigation and reporting so that Americans can make informed choices. We live in an information society, and if we don’t get the truth out, we will never gain traction against the narratives being constantly refashioned and pushed by the Left.

Less than two years ago, an infinitesimal number of Americans knew about critical race theory. Through investigation and reporting, we’ve brought that number up to 75 percent. The public now opposes critical race theory by a two-to-one margin, and it is being hounded out of schools and other places. This kind of action is a model for dealing with every ideology and institution that is undermining the public good and America’s future.

Remember that institutions don’t choose these ideologies democratically—they don’t ask people or employees to vote for them. They impose them by fiat, through bureaucratic, not democratic rule. So it isn’t surprising that the institutions lose big when we force their agendas into the political arena. What politician or campaign manager in their right mind would ignore an issue that is supported by a two-to-one margin? So-called conservative politicians who do ignore such issues—or who oppose bringing them up out of a false sense of decorum—aren’t on the people’s and the country’s side.

With public institutions like K-12 education, another crucial step is to decentralize them. It is centralization and bureaucratization that makes it possible for a minority of activists to take control and impose their ideologies. Decentralizing means reducing federal and state controls in favor of local control—and it ultimately means something like universal school choice, placing power in parents’ hands. Too many parents today have no escape mechanism from substandard schools controlled by leftist ideologues. Universal school choice—meaning that public education funding goes directly to parents rather than schools—would fix that.

Conservatives have for too long been resistant to attacking the credibility of our institutions. Trust in institutions is a natural conservative tendency. But conservatives need to stop focusing on abstract concepts and open their eyes. Our institutions are dragging our country in a disastrous direction, actively undermining all that makes America great.

To some extent, the institutions are now destroying their own credibility. Look at the public health bureaucracy and teachers’ unions, which acted in concert to shut down schools and keep children needlessly masked—and for far too long. As a result, there has been an explosion in homeschooling, as well as in the number of alternative K-12 schools such as the ones Hillsdale College is helping to launch around the country. What is needed is to build alternative or parallel institutions and businesses in all areas. There is no reason, for example, why plenty of high production value children’s entertainment can’t be produced outside the ideological confines of the Walt Disney Company.

In conclusion, we make a mistake in thinking about politics simply in terms of a Left versus Right dynamic. That dynamic is significant, but where the opportunity really lies today is focusing on a top versus bottom dynamic. An elite class, representing a small number of people with influence in the knowledge-based institutions, are acting in their own interest and against the interest of the vast majority of the American people—those who are still attached to the idea that America is a force for good and who think, to take just one example, that young children should be protected from the imposition of radical gender ideology.

In terms of the top versus bottom dynamic, the choice today is between the American Revolution of 1776 and the leftist revolution of the 1960s. The first offers a continued unfolding of America’s founding principles of freedom and equality. The second ends up in nihilism and demoralization, just as the Weather Underground ended up in a bombed-out basement in Greenwich Village in the 1970s.

Even those of us who are temperamentally predisposed to defense must recognize that offense—laying siege to the institutions—is what is now demanded.

HISTORY IS ABOUT TO REPEAT ITSELF WITH GLOBAL LOSS OF THE PRODUCTION OF FOODSTUFFS AND THE RESULTING WORLDWIDE FAMINE WILL PRODUCE VIOLENCE AND DEATH

Posted on August 1, 2022 by abyssum

Dear Reader,

President Biden’s political future is in big trouble…

And there’s one particular issue that’ll break his administration, potentially in the next 3o days.

This one issue is bigger than gas prices…

It’s bigger than the midterms…

It’s bigger than any health or cognitive problems Biden may be facing…

Now, before you ask — the issue I’m
talking about is not inflation…

It’s true inflation is bad and getting worse. Yet the issue I’m talking about is an even worse threat to your standard of living.

This issue is not Biden’s terrible poll numbers…

If anything, when this issue hits full blast, we could soon see Biden’s polling drop into the twenties, or even the teens.

This issue is not crime or the decay of cities. When this issue explodes, we could see violent crime doubled in many areas.

According to my forecast, nothing can stop this issue now.

The die is cast.

This issue is already moving full-speed ahead.

Soon, it could mutate into a full-bore disaster for America.

What’s this global disaster in the making?

It’s food shortages.

That’s right — food shortages.

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking: we’ll never see food shortages here in America. You’ll probably dismiss this message as crazy, or alarmist.

But give me 5 minutes of your time and I’ll prove my entire case for food shortages beyond a reasonable doubt here in this message.

You see, I predict once we start to see the global food crisis hit here in America, it will force Biden’s resignation.

We’re already into the first stages…

In the next 3o days, you could soon see many foods disappear from shelves at your local grocery store — including staples like pasta, meat, eggs, and bread.

Now, it probably won’t be every item which goes out of stock in your local store.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to scrounge up rice and beans…

But however it shakes out, it’s clear to me we are facing a FOOD DISASTER of epic proportions over the next few months…

Your life savings and standard of living are
facing immediate disaster!

My name, by the way, is Andrew Zatlin.

I was recently ranked #1 for Jobs Forecasting by Bloombergahead of analysts at major Wall Street firms like JP Morgan and Bank of America.

Today, I run an investment research firm, Moneyball Economics.

My research has been used by more than 20 of the world’s top hedge funds to make investments.

And as The Wall Street Journal reported, my data can help investors “knock it out of the park” when it comes to making money.

But right now, I don’t want to talk about me.

I want to talk about you

Do remember the COVID lockdowns and wandering around the grocery store with all the empty shelves?

Well, that was a supply chain problem.

The food was there all along, sitting in warehouses. The problem was everyone was locked down. Nobody was working to get the food to the stores.

What I’m warning you about today is a supply problem.

Meaning, it won’t matter if we’re locked down or not. It won’t matter if there are people working the warehouses, trucks and stores to stock up the stores…

The stores won’t be stocked… because the food won’t exist.

Why? I’m going to tell you exactly how this food disaster will go down in the next few minutes…

But know this…

One of the reasons why you are seeing higher prices in the grocery store is certainly because of monetary inflation.

The Fed printed trillions of dollars and now we’re stuck with a big problem…

But there’s a BIGGER problem at the supermarket, if you can believe it…

Our farmers won’t be able to produce enough food this harvest, and very soon I’m expecting we’ll see massive shortages at the grocery store.

As I said, the political consequences of a food crisis in America will be disastrous for the Democrats.

Biden will likely resign in disgrace, and President Kamala Harris will be stuck holding the bag.

It won’t matter much who controls Congress, the GOP or Democrats…

Our farmers are already not producing enough food, right now…

For example, check out this chart:

What you’re seeing here is the price of wheat…

Notice the huge spike in 2022?

The price of wheat is up almost 100% in a year-and-a-half.

If you eat bread, and I’m guessing you do, you’ve spotted a BIG problem…

But it gets worse. Now consider a second chart…

What you’re seeing here is the record high prices of fertilizer in North America…

Remember, every piece of food you eat was grown somewhere.

And growing food requires fertilizer.

Higher fertilizer costs means higher costs for food.

And it’s already starting to bite.

Check out this third chart, showing overall food prices:

Yikes!

The last time food prices spiked like this was in 2011. As a result, we saw food riots, revolutions, terrorism, and war.

Gaddafi got whacked. Americans were murdered in Benghazi.

Today we’re facing something even worse…

Potential worldwide famine

It’s the end of the world as we know it…

I’m already seeing a lit fuse. And a global-sized pile of TNT is about to go off.

If my research is correct, markets will be crushed in ways we’ve never seen before…

The dollar will be hammered…

Food inflation will ignite even more monetary inflation, and potentially hyperinflation.

Worse still, we could run out of food…

Don’t believe me?

You’re already seeing empty shelves at your local supermarket.

Keep in mind, these shortages were caused by supply-chain problems.

Last year, the food was still being grown..

The problem was it kept getting stuck in transit because of tangled supply chains.

That’s why stores ran out of food during Covid.

But now we’ve got a bigger problem coming… a production problem.

Food simply won’t be — can’t be — grown.

Farmers are facing what I call “Farmageddon” — higher costs andshortages that will soon wipe out harvests across the planet

Food won’t be on the shelves because it simply doesn’t exist.

What’s all this mean for Americans like you and me?

The immediate consequence is that the cost of food will likely skyrocketin the next 12 months.

It’s already happening. Nobody can stop it now.

Soybeans? Already up 60% in a year…

Corn? Already up 50%…

Beef, already up 12%…

Look, there are hundreds of other charts I could share…

According to a Consumer Price Index Summary, the “food at home” index rose 6.5% over the past 12 months.

To put that into perspective, that index rose, on average, 1.5% every year for the last decade.

A 6.5% jump is unprecedented

It’s more than a 300% increase over what we’ve seen in the past.

Make no mistake, the price of food is raging — and it’s not about to stop.

During the long course of my life, I have never seen anything like this… and conditions are getting worse with each passing day

Yet Farmageddon will spiral into something much, much worse:

I’m anticipating massive food shortages at your local grocery store…

As news of the shortages spreads, I’m expecting hoards of desperate shoppers to clean out entire supermarkets, stripping every shelf bare…

I can see “flash mobs” robbing items right off the shelves in every city in America…

And grocery stores responding with increased security and checkpoints.

I’m also predicting that the Federal government will respond with attempts at price controls and rationing, causing even more shortages.

We already saw American cities set on fire in 2020.

What will happen when we see catastrophic food shortages, bread lines, and bread riots?

Desperate people will do desperate things…

A truly nightmarish global food crisis really is upon us.

And it’s going to hit America, hard…

But look, I’m NOT trying to scare you.

In fact, as an expert on the economy and markets, I wrote this letter you’re reading to share the facts with you about what’s coming — and to share what you can do about it to protect your money and your lifestyle

Most of your neighbors, co-workers, friends and family will tell you that I’m crazy. That YOU’RE crazy for taking steps to get prepared.

Surely the Federal government will figure this all out, they’ll say…

Are you so sure about that?

I’m not.

So I hope you take whatever steps you need to protect yourself and your family.

That’s why you can go through everything I have for you today, for FREE, and then decide for yourself if I’m “full of it”…

You’ll see what I’m doing to protect my family and my assets.

You’ll even see the steps I’m taking to profit from this situation.

It might seem strange to think of profit at a time like this…

Yet I can tell you that in every crisis across history, there’ve also been unique opportunities to profit and make large sums of money.

The last two times we faced a food crisis like this, investors could have made as much as 173%… 451%… even 977% returns on their money

This crisis is no different in terms of opportunity.

To prove it to you, I’m going the extra mile:

*** I will share with you one of my top investment ideas to play Farmageddon — for FREE — right in this letter

In a few minutes, you’ll get the name of this investment and ticker symbol.

This opportunity isn’t a commodity trade, and it’s not a regular stock. This is something far better.

And it’s yours, 100% free, just for hearing me out today. No credit card, no delayed billing… in fact, no billing whatsoever.

But I’m jumping ahead…

Let me tell you a shocking story you’ve probably never heard about… a story about the last time we saw food shortages back in 2011…

On December 17, 2011, a food-cart owner lit himself on fire…

He poured gasoline on his body…

And lit a match.

His name was Mo Bouazizi.

He was 26 years old, and lived in Tunisia all his life.

Mo supported his family by selling fruit from a cart.

With his meager earnings, he supported his mother, uncle, and five younger siblings. But Mo had a big problem…

Because of the food shortages back in 2010, government officials were confiscating Mo’s fruit.

Food was in short supply — and the corrupt officials figured they could simply steal Mo’s food and livelihood.

Mo had had enough.

So he doused himself with gasoline and burned himself to death in protest.

This is certainly a tragic tale. But there’s a twist…

What Mo sparked that day was bigger than the fire which ended his tragic life…

In fact, as the story of Mo’s death spread, it launched one of the most violent revolts of recent history.

His death became the trigger for the “Arab Spring” in 2011…

Maybe you remember the Arab Spring. But do you know what caused it?

Food shortages.

That’s right.

Food shortages.

After a sudden surge in food prices — prices doubled overnight — civil disobedience and mass riots shook this part of the world to the core.

Protestors were beaten in the streets…

Governments were overthrown…

Dictators were stabbed and shot to death by rioters …

From Tunisia, the violent protests spread to five other countries: Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Syria, and Bahrain.

In all five countries, their ruler was deposed… or killed.

The riots, civil wars, or insurgencies then spread to other parts of the region… leading to a global crisis.

According to Gulf News

“Mo Bouazizi didn’t set himself on fire because he couldn’t blog or vote. People set themselves on fire because they can’t stand seeing their family wither away slowly, not of sorrow, but of cold stark hunger.”

I’m telling you Mo’s story to help you understand one thing:

When the food shortages of Farmageddon hit, you need to be ready for anything…

After all, to quote the author Alfred Henry Lewis, “There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy…”

Welcome to “America’s
Arab Spring”

In short, Farmageddon is going to become extremely ugly as it plays out.

And the potential carnage will likely NOT be confined to places like the Middle East.

I believe a disaster is brewing right here, in the USA…

We could be facing “America’s Arab Spring” — and far more quickly than you might realize…

On March 28, President Biden made a shocking confession…

President Biden went on TV and declared food shortages are “gonna be real…”

At least Biden is being honest about what’s coming!

In response, Tucker Carlson of Fox News said:

“Our problem has always been having too much food. Now we won’t have enough…”

If that wasn’t grim enough for you, the Washington Post opined,

“There is almost certainly not going to be enough food to feed the world this year. The situation is quickly becoming ‘catastrophic,’ with a high likelihood of famine…”

We can hope and pray that the U.S. government can stop this…

But for my money, I’m not planning on it. Because the scary truth is…

Farmageddon Can’t Be Stopped Now

Consider this map of the U.S…

See all the red? Those are areas with drought conditions. Much of America has experienced severe drought recently, particularly in wheat-growing areas.

Kansas, for example, is the top wheat producer in the U.S…

But it’s had the worst rainfall conditions since 2018. Almost zero rain or snow since October.

And it’s not just bad in America. China is the world’s largest wheat producer. And it’s having the worst harvest on record. Massive flooding has delayed planting.

This is a global problem. In fact, here’s a chart with the world’s top 10 wheat-producing countries. Look how many are in turmoil right now:

We’ve got China and the U.S. dealing with shortages…

Russia and Ukraine are at war…

And then there’s India, the world’s second-largest wheat producer. India just declared that it’s not going to be exporting as much wheat.

This is creating a severe wheat shortage — we’re talking about a double-digit reduction.

And when there’s not enough supply to go around, prices go up…

History Is Repeating, Again…

I mentioned the food shortages which led to the Arab Spring in 2011

But you might not remember the world also faced a massive food shortage back in 2008.

During this global food crisis, food riots spread across Africa, Asia, even Mexico.

Food shortages hit the U.S. back then too.

According to CBS news:

“…more than one in seven American households struggled to put enough food on the table in 2008, the highest number since the U.S. Department of Agriculture began tracking food security levels in 1995.”

As you can see in this chart, both times we’ve seen a food crisis, it was followed by massive global unrest:

But that’s not even the bad news…

The bad news is the current level of food prices — right now — are surpassing the peaks observed the prior two times.

Food prices are now higher than in 2008 and 2011.

Which means…

Farmageddon is already worse than the previous global food shortages

You probably already guessed this after looking at your recent grocery bill…

And remember, what you’re seeing now is only the start.

My forecast says food prices are only going higher… to levels we’ve neverseen before.

Already, we’re seeing the dire consequences:

  • In Peru, people have taken to the street to protest high food prices. Peru deployed its military to quell the food riots — and at least six people have died in clashes with police, authorities have said.
  • With higher wheat prices, protests have broken out in Iraq and Sudan, sparking fears of a new Arab Spring…
  • We’re already seeing food rationing in places like Germany, Spain, and Greece…

History seems to be repeating already, with all the same problems as before.

And this time it’s going to get worse…

Feeling worried yet?

You should be. This is bad news for everyone on the planet.

But here’s the part no one’s telling you on TV…

When History Repeats, Money Can Be Made…

As I mentioned before, there are special opportunities to profit from Farmageddon.

Why? For one simple reason…

Whenever we see a repeat of history in world events, we often also see a repeat of history in the markets.

Here’s what I mean:

There’s a company called Mosaic based in Tampa, Florida.

It makes fertilizers and sells them to farmers in the U.S. and around the world.

When the 2008 food crisis hit, Mosaic saw its stock spike up a whopping 977%.

Here’s the chart:

Make no mistake, a 977% profit could be life-changing money…

It’s enough to multiply someone’s money by 10 times.

If an investor put in $10,000 into Mosaic before the peak of the 2008 food crisis, they’d have $97,000…

Start with $50,000 and they’d have $488,500… nearly half a million bucks!

The numbers start adding up fast…

My point is, food shortages went up and so did certain investments…

Commodities, stocks, ETFs and others.

Which opportunities do I expect to skyrocket with Farmageddon?

I’ll show you one of my top investment picks in a moment — which you can grab completely free right here in this letter…

But first, check out three specific “Farmageddon flashpoints” I’m seeing…

FARMAGEDDON FLASHPOINT #1:The War in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is tragic on all levels.

Not least of all, because it’s a flashpoint in Farmageddon…

Ukraine and Russia are the “breadbasket” for much of Europe, Africa and Asia.

In a typical year, Russia and Ukraine account for approximately 30% of all global wheat exports.

A full half of Africa’s wheat imports usually come from either Russia or Ukraine.

Other nations rely on wheat exports from Russia and Ukraine even more than Africa does…

According to a report from MSN,

“Armenia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Eritrea have imported virtually all of their wheat from Russia and Ukraine and must find new sources. But they are competing against much larger buyers, including Turkey, Egypt, Bangladesh and Iran, which have obtained more than 60 percent of their wheat from the two warring countries.”

Ask yourself… with the war going on… who is going to plant and harvest the wheat in Ukraine?

With the global sanctions choking off trade, how will Russia continue to export wheat?

The fact is, they won’t. Or at least not to the degree the world needs to feed millions of people.

According to the New York Times,

“Russian shells have destroyed Ukrainian cities, homes, hospitals and schools. But the war has also reached deep into the fertile plains of a region known as Europe’s breadbasket, paralyzing harvests, destroying granaries and crops, and bringing potentially devastating consequences to a country that produces a large share of the world’s grain.”

It’s being reported that one-third of Ukraine’s farmlands may not be harvested or cultivated this year.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the “vast destruction of crops and infrastructure due to the war jeopardizes food production.”

The war has choked off more than a quarter of the global wheat trade, about a fifth of corn, and 12% of all calories traded globally, according to the Financial Post.

Yes, I’m throwing a bunch of numbers at you here.

The point is, what’s happening in Ukraine is unprecedented — and will only get worse…

Image of a destroyed dairy farm in Ukraine

According to Bloomberg News:

“The food shock in Ukraine looks devastating. Grain and sunflower oil in storage from last year’s harvest can’t be shipped because of fighting and port closures. Shelling and fuel shortages may interfere with spring planting and fertilizer farmers need to apply to the winter wheat crop as it emerges from dormancy.. Sanctions and disruption of Black Sea shipping routes also will limit Russian exports, beyond grain….”

Yet, with crisis comes opportunity… if you know where to look.

With the food shortages coming from Russia and Ukraine, American farmers are going to have to increase their production.

Consider a company called American Vanguard…

It makes chemicals for farmers, including insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides.

In the years that followed the 2011 food crisis, the one that sparked the Arab Spring, this company’s stock shot up an amazing 451%…

That’s a nearly 5 times return!

The trick, of course, is finding these opportunities before the food prices peak…

Sometimes these opportunities are in commodities… sometimes in stocks… sometimes in more exotic investments.

The good news is we still have time to get in on opportunities that can soar in times of crisis like these… and potentially make a fortune from Farmageddon.

In just a moment I’ll show you a three step “blueprint” for how to prepare for what’s coming. But before I show you the specific steps to take…

There’s another major “flashpoint” which will blow global food prices sky high…

FARMAGEDDON FLASHPOINT #2:The World is Running Out of Fertilizer

As a direct consequence of the war in Ukraine, the world is also running out of fertilizer.

With higher fertilizer costs come the food shortages.

Keep in mind the largest exporter of fertilizer in the world is Russia.

According to Reuters,

“Western sanctions on Russia, a major exporter of (fertilizers), have disrupted shipments of those key inputs around the globe. Fertilizer is key to keeping corn, soy, rice and wheat yields high. Growers are scrambling to adjust…”

Since this time last year, some fertilizer prices have gone up by as much as 300%.

Check out this chart, where you can see the price of North American fertilizer exploding to record highs:

According to Bloomberg:

Expensive fertilizers are just one of many factors that have driven food prices to a record. In response, rice farmers across Asia are scaling back usage of the nutrients, threatening harvests of a staple that feeds half the world. The repercussions could be huge: The International Rice Research Institute predicts that yields could drop 10% in the next season, causing a loss of 36 million tons of rice, or the equivalent of feeding 500 million people.”

What’s all this mean?

According to the Wall Street Journal, “farms are failing as fertilizer prices drive up the cost of food…”

This is also very bad for farmers right here in the U.S.

You see, farmers here in the U.S. are facing a big problem.

If fertilizer is too expensive, farmers will simply plant less crops!

Fertilizer bills for American farmers are expected to jump 12% this year, after rising 17% in 2021, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation and U.S. Department of Agriculture…

Now this might not seem like a big jump. But as a result, it could decrease U.S. corn plantings by 1.3 million acres.

Ben Riensche, a farmer from Oklahoma, recently told Tucker Carlson:

“Soaring fertilizer prices are likely to bring spiked food prices. If you’re upset that gas is up a dollar or two a gallon, wait until your grocery bill is up $1,000.00 a month, and it might not just manifest itself in terms of price. It could be quantity as well. Empty Shelf syndrome may be starting.”

It seems certain record high fertilizer costs — and less food planted — will also skyrocket food prices beyond the levels we’re seeing now…

But they will also likely also skyrocket the prices of certain investment opportunities…

Smart investors, who know where to look, will have the chance to build tremendous wealth…

For example, consider a company called CF Industries Holdings…

It makes the basic materials needed for fertilizer.

As you can probably guess, this company had a product in high-demand during a global food crisis

In fact, back in the 2011 food crisis, CF Industries saw its stock spike up a whopping 429%…

As food prices shoot even higher with Farmageddon, I’m expecting a handful of new opportunities like this one to open up…

I’m sure you are seeing the opportunities someone like me might have for you…

But there’s one more “Farmageedon flashpoint” which will be like dumping gasoline on a fire in this global crisis…

FARMAGEDDON FLASHPOINT #3:A Perfect Storm of Bad Weather, Shortages & Disease!

If the war in Ukraine, the sanctions on Russia and the shortages of crops and fertilizer from these regions wasn’t bad enough..

We are now facing a “perfect storm” of other issues which will only accelerate the price of food around the globe.

Keep in mind, these other issues alone would be a big problem all by themselves…

But these other issues are happening ON TOP of the problems we are seeing from the Ukraine war.

It’s going to be a bad harvest this year, in lots of places.

What are these other issues?

*** Bird Flu:

If one global pandemic wasn’t bad enough, now we have another — and it’s affecting birds. Specifically chickens and turkeys.

Here in the United States, a bird flu pandemic continues to escalate, and as a result the price of eggs has more than doubled in recent weeks…

According to CNN Business:

“A deadly and highly infectious avian flu is forcing US farmers to kill millions of egg-laying hens, reducing the country’s egg supply and driving up prices…”

But it’s not eggs which will soon be in short supply. We will also soon see shortages of poultry. According to CBS News:

“Across the nation, farmers have had to kill about 22 million egg-laying chickens, 1.8 million broiler chickens, 1.9 million pullet and other commercial chickens, and 1.9 million turkeys. Iowa accounts for many of those cases, with operations having to kill more than 18 million chickens and 305,000 turkeys…”

*** Bad Weather:

Mother Nature is also working hard this year to ensure a poor harvest…

According to the National Weather Service, nearly 50% of the continental United States will either see drought conditions persist or intensify in the coming months.

China’s crops are being destroyed by winter flooding.

According to China’s Minister of Agriculture the condition of China’s winter wheat crop could be the “worst in history.”

This is bad news because China is the world’s biggest wheat consumer.

According to Reuters

“A survey of (China’s) winter wheat crop taken before the start of winter found that the amount of first and second-grade crop was down by more than 20 percentage points…”

*** Higher Energy Prices:

No doubt you’ve experienced pain at the pump from high gas prices…

But then consider what higher fuel prices will do for global agriculture…

Tractors run on fuel. Trucks which transport fertilizer rely on fuel. So do the trucks which transport the crops to the factory, and the trucks which ship the food to grocery stores…

According to report from Bloomberg:

“Diesel is the workhorse of the global economy. It keeps trucks and vans, excavators and heavy machinery, freight trains and ships all buzzing. Wholesale and retail diesel prices surged last week to an all-time high, surpassing the peak set in 2008…”

Check out this chart:

Bottom line is higher fuel prices will mean higher food prices…

And more damage from Farmageddon!

*** Even More Supply Shortages:

Farmers are running out supplies they need to farm…

For example: Shortages of farm equipment, and parts for farm equipment, like tractors.

The same chip shortage we are seeing create shortages in automobiles is hitting farm equipment too.

Jim Boyer, a farmer in Iowa, is still waiting for a $40 emissions-related sensor for his tractor from the factory. And he’s not sure if it will arrive anytime soon.

According to Farmer Jim:

“I cannot drive that tractor — a quarter-million-dollar piece of equipment — because I cannot get that sensor…”

Of course, even if farmers can get their equipment and parts, who is going to do the actual work of farming?

As you know, most sectors of the U.S. economies are facing a labor shortage at the moments. And this includes farmers.

Check out this chart of the U.S. labor market:

Do you see the gap between job openings and unemployed but willing workers?

That’s the labor shortage.

Farmers are competing with other sectors for a limited pool of labor.

And without hired help, who is going to work the harvest?

It’s all bad news for food shortages, for everyone on the planet.

But as you might expect, a “perfect storm” like this also opens up opportunities in the markets, if you know where to look…

It happened in the past. And it’s happening again…

Back in the 2011 food crisis, there was a company called Titan Machinery.

It runs retail stores which sell agricultural equipment like tractors.

With the huge demand for food prices in 2011, farmers needed more new tractors!

And as a result, Titan’s stock went up 140%.

A 140% return is enough to more than double an investor’s money…

Then there’s a stock called Lindsay Corporation, whose company provides water and infrastructure services for the agricultural industry.

This company saw it’s stock rise BOTH times during the food shortages in 2008 and 2011.

In 2011, Lindsay’s stock went up 173%… that’s nearly 3 times, or enough for an investor to nearly TRIPLE their initial stake…

And in 2008, Lindsey’s stock went up 419% …that’s a 5 times increase…

Can you imagine finding opportunities like these today from Farmageddon?

I hope so. Because in a minute I’m going to tell you one you can invest in now.

In fact, I will tell you the name of the investment and even the ticker symbol, 100% free. It’s my way of saying “thank you” for reading this letter today.

But first, please know this…

Farmageddon Will Unleash an Avalanche of Destruction…

Famed economist Jim Rickards has been known to say…

“Every avalanche begins with one snowflake…”

Well, with Farmageddon — and with the flashpoints I just showed you —

we are seeing a TON of snowflakes dumped on the problem of global food supply…

Believe it or not, but I’m expecting all this to trigger something worse than higher food prices, shortages and mass starvation.

I’m expecting all these problems to compound, due to hoarding.

We’ve all seen what happens at grocery stores, such as when a hurricane or snowstorm is incoming…

We all saw what happened at supermarkets during the Covid supply shortages…

People get scared, and start hoarding food.

Can you blame them? I don’t…

But the fact is, hoarding creates a “self-perpetuating food inflation spiral.”

Prices rise due to hoarding, leading to shortages, which leads to people getting scared, leading to hoarding, higher prices, and more shortages…

And on it goes…

To quote from Barron’s:

“As grocery prices climb, so do the odds of unhinged inflation expectations, opening the door to an upward spiral in prices…”

In short: Food inflation is going to lead to more food inflation, which ultimately leads to shortages, and potentially a total collapse of the global food system.

How To Both Protect Yourself andPotentially Make a Lot of Money From Farmageddon…

Let me tell you one more quick story…

There was once a man named Bill.

Bill came from modest roots. His dad was a merchant marine. Later, Bill moved to Iowa to begin a new life… as a coroner in a small country town.

Bill found out he didn’t like inspecting dead bodies. And the pay wasn’t great.

So Bill moved into a new business… storing grain for local farmers.

Flash forward 156 years to today:

Bill is now known to history as W.W. Cargill.

The grain storage business he founded in 1865 is known as Cargill Inc.

It’s the largest private company in the world, with nearly $120 billion in revenue and 130,000 employees in 63 countries.

Today, the Cargill family is still extremely wealthy. And they are getting richer…

According to a report to Yahoo Finance:

“Rising food prices… are fueling a surge in wealth for the billionaire family behind America’s largest closely held company Three more members of the Cargill family… have joined the ranks of the world’s 500 richest people thanks to their stakes in Minnesota-based food processor Cargill Inc. Each has a net worth of $5.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, up 20% this year…”

But Farmageddon isn’t just creating riches among the billionaire class…

Companies large and small are profiting like crazy! According to the same Yahoo Finance report:

“Agricultural trading house Louis Dreyfus Co. reported profit surged 82% last year on grain price fluctuations and strong margins in oilseeds. The valuations of some of the largest publicly traded food companies are rising fast, with Illinois-based Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. up more than 25%…”

In a world where food will become as valuable as gold, those who control the food supply will become very wealthy indeed…

Those who don’t prepare will be left behind to suffer. Perhaps for good.

So what are the next steps — to protect yourself from the ravages of Farmageddon, and to set yourself up for the potential to grow your wealth in the next couple years?

Well, in a moment I’m going to show you some simple-to-make financial moves you can take action on right away.

These financial moves are important to make right now.

If you wait to get started, these investments will likely only get more expensive, which means you will miss out on all the potential profits…

If you can grab a piece of the explosive wealth from Farmageddon, you’ll be in a much better spot to survive the damage we will see from higher food prices, shortages, food riots and political and financial instability…

Remember… food prices are rising right now…

Food shortages are happening… right now…

The global food supply system is a house of cards…

This isn’t “theory” or some far-off “gloom and doom” prediction…

We’re already in a gloom-and-doom situation.

HISTORY IS ABOUT TO REPEAT ITSELF WITH GLOBAL LOSS OF THE PRODUCTION OF FOODSTUFFS AND THE RESULTING WORLDWIDE FAMINE WILL PRODUCE VIOLENCE AND DEATH

The Ukrainian Verdun

The Ukrainian war increasingly will depend

on endless U.S. aid and escalation.

By: Victor Davis Hanson

The Patriot Post

July 28, 2022

Five months after Russia invaded Ukraine, the war is now reduced to one of attrition. The current dirty, grinding slog is fought mostly with artillery and rockets. Everything from Ukraine’s shopping centers to apartment buildings — and the civilians in them — are Russian targets.

Most outsiders have already forgotten the heroic Ukrainian winter repulse of the botched Russian shock-and-awe effort to sweep into Kyiv, decapitate the government, and declare the eastern half of the country a Russian protectorate within mere days.

Months later, the long war devolves further into a contest of mass and weight — tons of explosives blowing up pathways for massed troops grabbing a few more charred miles of ruined landscape.

Russian President Vladimir Putin bets he can throw in more men and more shells than Ukraine and its Western suppliers can match. He is quite willing to “win” by laying waste to eastern Ukraine even if it means losing three Russian soldiers for every Ukrainian.

When war becomes such gridlocked carnage, each side looks to new game-changing diplomacy, strategies, allies, or weapons to break the deadlock.

For Putin, such escalation means more flesh, steel, and explosives. His country is 28 times bigger than Ukraine, and over three times more populous, with an economy 15 times larger.

As for Putin’s financial reserves, the Western oil boycott means increasingly little to him when 40% of the planet’s population in India and China are eager to secure near-limitless Russian energy.

Another 750 million people in Europe once talked tough. But as a second winter nears, their gas and oil imports from Russia will further wither. Then their Churchillian rhetoric may chill.

So, the Ukrainian war increasingly will depend on endless U.S. aid and escalation.

To stop the Russian steamroller, Ukraine demands sophisticated American missiles to sink Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Kyiv requests shipments of U.S. jet fighters to knock down Putin’s missiles and planes.

It asks for more rockets and artillery to ensure tit-for-tat retaliation for every incoming Russian shell and bomb. Kyiv negotiates for more Western intelligence to take out more Russian generals and more lift capacity to stage airborne raids into Mother Russia itself.

We in the West abhor Putin’s war as senseless carnage, the last mad act of a vainglorious and delusional dictator.

Yet Putin trusts that future Russian generations will come to appreciate his grinding effort as the brutal restoration work of Vladimir the Great. When the wreckage is forgotten, Putin is convinced he will be viewed as the world’s most successful irredentist — one who had already battered Georgia, Ossetia, Chechnya, Crimea, and Eastern Ukraine back into the reborn Russian empire.

If Putin can smash Ukraine into submission, the former jewel in the Russian imperial crown, then he thinks he can eventually swallow all the remaining former Soviet republics that are far less formidable than Ukraine.

The United States is nearing a gut-check decision. There are plenty of dangerous firsts in radically upping our role with Ukraine. No one quite knows the post-Cold War rules of engagement when one nuclear power openly fights the surrogate of another.

In the old days of the Soviet Union and a backward Maoist China, conventional American triangulation ensured that neither nuclear power grew closer to each other than to us.

After Ukraine, both nuclear powers are de facto allies, ganging up on a common American enemy. As global inflation spikes, recession looms, and oil prices soar, some of our sworn and de facto allies, including India and Turkey, prefer Russian oil to Western sermons.

The heroic Ukrainian resistance may have brought European NATO states and the United States closer. But oddly, Ukraine’s supporters seemed to have soured the rest of the world on Western economic boycotts and sanctions — and the torpid leadership of President Joe Biden and his European counterparts.

In the West, there are dissident rumblings of a possible plebiscite to adjudicate the Russian-speaking Ukrainian borderlands — with possible guarantees of an Austria-like, non-NATO neutrality for Ukraine.

But such compromise talk earns charges of appeasement from Western zealots. Apparently, American moralists intend to fight for the principle of the sanctity of national borders to the last Ukrainian.

Vastly upping aid to Ukraine has become the cause celebre of the West. But few have fully explained the ensuing costs and dangers of escalation to the American people. The United States appears to be heading into a stagflationary recession following the loss of deterrence from the Afghanistan catastrophe and with restive renegades like Iran and North Korea joining the Beijing-Moscow nuclear axis.

For now, no one knows whether greater American escalation would tip the balance for an allied democratic victory, and a repeat of our savior role in the two World Wars. Or will the proxy war suck the United States into a Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan-like quagmire?

Worse: Will our intervention trump even the brinkmanship of the Cuban Missile Crisis — with the nuclear standoff nightmarishly unpredictable?

Francis Notes:

– Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church in such a situation:

(The Catholic Controversy, by St. Francis de Sales, Pages 305-306)

Saint Robert Bellarmine, also, said “the Pope heretic is not deposed ipso facto, but must be declared deposed by the Church.”

Does Amoris Laetitia Retreat from Absolute Moral Norms? …wdtprs.com

Image tagged in liberal’s medically necessary abortion, cannibalism,it puts the lotion on the skin, cuisine, whole foods – Imgflip

In the beginning of the controversy, it was almost always the factual premise that was denied. But the scientific evidence is so clear and so comprehensive and accumulating that that way is not as popular as it used to be

So, believe it or not, I’ve found that very many pro-choice philosophers now will deny the first premise. “There are no universal moral rules. There is nothing that is intrinsically wrong. Except, of course, the things our ideology happens to dislike.” When you ask them, “Do you really think that cannibalism, or rape, or genocide are morally wrong?” most of them will back down. Some of them will say, “No, you can’t make that judgment. I’m personally opposed to holocausts, but I wouldn’t impose my will upon a Hitler.” Most of us aren’t that, well, shameless.  [http://www.peterkreeft.com/audio/19_prolife-philosophy/prolife-philosophy_transcription.htm#1]

Here’s an interesting post from The American Catholic titled “The Left Beginning to Push Cannibalism” which shows the effect of “There are no universal moral rules” or no “Absolute Moral Norms” as apparently promoted by Amoris Laetitia:

BAD NEWS: THE UNITED STATES ARMY HAS MET ONLY 40 PERCENT OF ITS 2022 RECRUITING GOALS.

 How To Erode the

World’s Greatest Military

Alienating half the country is not a

wise strategy for military recruitment.

By: Victor Davis Hanson

American Greatness

July 24, 2022

The U.S. Army has met only 40 percent of its 2022 recruiting goals.

In fact, all branches of the military are facing historic resistance to their current recruiting efforts. If some solution is not found quickly, the armed forces will radically shrink or be forced to lower standards—or both.

Such a crisis occurs importunely as an aggressive Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea believe the Biden Administration and the Pentagon have lost traditional U.S. deterrence.

That pessimistic view abroad unfortunately is now shared by many Americans at home. In 2021, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute conducted its periodic poll of attitudes toward the U.S. military. The result was astonishing. Currently, only 45 percent of Americans polled expressed a great deal of trust in their armed forces. Confidence had dived 25 points since an early 2018 poll.

Military officials cite both the usual and a new array of challenges in finding suitable young soldiers—drug use, gang affiliation, physical and mental incapacities, and the dislocations arising from the COVID pandemic and vaccination mandates. But they are too quiet about why such supposedly longer-term obstacles suddenly coalesced in 2022—as if their leadership and policies have had no effect in discouraging tens of thousands of young men and women to join them.

The Greatest Skedaddle in Modern American History

A year ago, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley were assuring the country not to worry over Joe Biden’s strange idea of abruptly pulling out all U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The radical step was purportedly to coincide with Biden’s planned 20-year celebratory event marking his role in ensuring an iconic end of the war on terror that began on September 11, 2001.

What followed was the worst U.S. military humiliation since Pearl Harbor.

U.S. forces abandoned hundreds if not thousands of American contractors and loyal Afghan employees, a $1 billion embassy, a huge $300 million refitted air base, and reportedly somewhere between $60-80 billion in military equipment and infrastructure. That sum was nearly double all the current military assistance sent to Ukraine.

Thirteen Americans were murdered by terrorists during the chaotic flight. In response, the United States mistakenly blew up 10 innocent Afghans after misidentifying them as ISIS terrorists. The horrific scenes at the Kabul airport surpassed the 1975 catastrophic ending of the Vietnam War on the U.S. embassy roof.

The global aftermath was eerie. Russia a few months thereafter invaded Ukraine. Iran proudly announced it would soon have enough fissionable material to make a nuclear weapon. North Korea resumed its provocative missile launches. China openly talked of storming Taiwan.

The common denominator was the global perception that any president and military responsible for such colossal, televised incompetence would or could neither deter enemy aggression nor protect allied interests.

In response, widely reported furor arose among the ranks of some American officers and the enlisted. Mid-level officers especially claimed they were ignored after warning that the abrupt withdrawal was suicidal, that Pentagon grandees were lying about the dire facts on the grounds in efforts to lubricate the Biden agenda, and that thousands of Americans and loyal Afghans would be cast adrift, along with our NATO allies.

The shame of defeat and the cloud of incompetence from Afghanistan have continued to harm the recruitment efforts of the military.

The White Rage Unicorn

About a year ago Austin and Chairman Milley took time out from assuring Americans that all would be well in Kabul, to testify before Congress about the Pentagon’s effort to address “white rage” in the six-month aftermath of the January 6 riot.

Both were also asked to explain why the armed services were recommending soldiers read inter alia the often-discredited “antiracist” theories of Ibram X. Kendi. His polarizing doctrine asserts that the entire U.S. system of government, all social and political life, and our very culture are racist to the core. As a result, Kendi’s solution requires radical and overt racial preferencing and discrimination supposedly to fight such an insidious system.

Yet what was startling about the two officials’ testimonies was the utter lack of data showing any general trends that white soldiers were any more or less likely to practice racial discrimination or chauvinism than other ethnic and racial groups in the military. An array of officers defended various workshops and coursework at the military academies purporting that white rage is an existential problem in the military.

The subtext of the entire testimony debacle was that the two titular heads of the military wished to reassure progressive majorities in the U.S. Congress that they were sympathetic to the woke movement and, along with other high-ranking officers, wanted publicly to virtue signal to that effect.

In their emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion—the latest euphemisms for using race and gender quotas to assure proportional or even reparatory representation—throughout the officer corps, Austin and Milley seemed entirely oblivious that the U.S. Army depends on generations of family loyalty to the armed forces. Such heritage and legacy considerations have ensured a steady stream of recruits for front-line combat units.

In other words, over generations, the same families, drawn from mostly middle-class cohorts, have served disproportionately in combat units in Vietnam, the various Iraq conflicts, and Afghanistan. Indeed, if the military was consistent in its racial fixations, it might have noted that white males—the purported targets of the Austin and Milley efforts to ferret out supposed white rage cells— died in three wars at roughly twice their numbers in the general population.

Current analysis of the recruiting crisis reveals what almost any observer would have predicted a year earlier from the haughty virtue signaling of Austin and Milley: traditional military families are not sending their sons and daughters into the ranks. It is not the danger of combat or the rigor of military life that families fear, but the suspicion their offspring will be targeted for ideological indoctrination and coercion that is either extraneous or antithetical to military efficacy.

Traditionally, 40 percent of recruits cite the military service of their parents—not to mention their veteran grandparents. Currently, only 13 percent of recruits arrive from such military families. Yet Austin and Milley made no connection between the Pentagon’s fixations on current hot-button social issues and its apparent inability to secure an honorable and safe withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The Weaponization of the Pentagon

There is a general perception in and outside the military that the top ranks of the services are increasingly politicized. High-profile officers have used the great authority, influence, and power of the Pentagon in polarizing progressive advocacy roles from transgenderism to abortion—to the detriment of military efficacy and lethality. Much unhappiness with the military arises partly from the woke hysteria, the institutional disdain for Donald Trump and his response to it, and the perceived rewards for those retired military lobbyists and corporate board members who reflect a new woke creed.

The nadir in politicization came in 2021 when it was revealed that Milley secretly contacted his Chinese communist counterpart during the height of the 2020 presidential election. Milley claimed he believed that his commander-in-chief, Trump, was unstable. And so, after his layman’s diagnosis, he wished to assure the People’s Liberation Army’s ranking officer that he would tip the Chinese off about any thought of a preemptive American strike on China. Milley also ordered his subordinate theater officers to report to him first should Trump contemplate any nuclear action against China.

Upon public disclosure of those facts, Milley should have been summarily fired. By law, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs is an advisory official only. The position enjoys no operational command.

Milley violated the chain of command by usurping theater authority that was not his. Nor can a military long exist, if its iconic leader freelances in contacting enemy counterparts without the knowledge of the commander-in-chief.

Can we imagine the outrage that would now ensue, if Milley should once again warn his Chinese counterpart that another president, Joe Biden, in the chairman’s own opinion, suffers bouts of cognitive debility and early onset senility, forcing Milley to take matters into his own hands? Yet such freelancing insubordination is now Milley’s legacy.

In fact, some in the retired U.S. military for over four years systematically violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice, sometimes to the extent of engaging in a sort of coup porn.

In a Washington Post op-ed, retired generals Paul Eaton, Antonio Taguba, and Steven Anderson melodramatically and without evidence warned the nation of a supposedly impending coup should their commander-in-chief Donald Trump be elected again in 2024.

In August 2020, two retired officers John Nagl and Paul Yingling wrote an op-ed urging Milley to simply remove Trump from office should Milley himself feel such a move was necessary after a disputed election. That was a de facto call for a possible coup d’état. But it was not unique.

Earlier, civilian Rosa Brooks, a former Obama-era Pentagon legal official, published an inflammatory call to arms in Foreign Policy. She discussed three major possible avenues to remove newly inaugurated Donald Trump from the presidency. One of her alternatives was a military coup.

For the entire Trump presidency, retired four-star generals and admirals had routinely smeared their commander-in-chief as a veritable Nazi, a Mussolini-like figure, an abject liar, and comparable in his policies to the architects of the Nazi death camps. One retired admiral called for the removal of Trump “the sooner, the better” as if regularly scheduled elections were insufficient remedies.

Aside from clear violations of Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, these officers were oblivious that nearly half the country supported the president and his policies. And so, millions of people would logically conclude that the highest-ranking retired officers, and by extension the culture of the current military, had nothing but contempt for their views and voting decisions. Alienating nearly half the country is not a wise strategy for military recruitment.

Nor is hypocrisy. The perceptions in the ranks have grown that applications of the law are asymmetrical and politically warped. Article 88, applicable to retired generals and admirals, prohibits military officers from using contemptuous words about top civilian elected and appointed officials. It says nothing about the spouses of said officials.

None of the retired officers who in the media libeled their commander-in-chief from 2017-2021 faced any consequences—reprimands, court martials, or sanctions from doing business with the Pentagon from their corporate billets. Yet one recently did.

The U.S. Army just fired retired consultant Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky from a contractual position with the Pentagon because he poked fun at First Lady Jill Biden. Note that Volesky did not suggest Jill or Joe Biden was a Nazi, a fascist, or liar —much less that her husband should be removed from office “the sooner, the better.” Retired General Volesky’s crime was mocking Jill Biden’s purported hypocrisy on the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Unfortunately, the crisis in the U.S. military transcends even the Afghanistan misadventure, unsupported accusations against an entire demographic, the erosion of military familial loyalty, freelancing politicized officers, and asymmetrical applications of laws and codes.

Fairly or not, the perception among the public and our enemies is that the U.S. military has become a political entity with an agenda that transcends defending the U.S. and its interests.

Its perceived main agenda by half the country is progressive social justice, administered top-down from a cadre of elites who can implement controversial policies through the chain of command without the messy work of Congress—to the delight of the Pentagon’s newfound sunshine friends on the woke Left.

Such military social engineers unfortunately appear to share contempt for a large group of Americans who voted for a president they despised. And this is a fact warmly welcomed by our worst enemies abroad.

Conversely, the Report deals extensively with similar activities, some now viewed as crimes against humanity, when they were perpetrated by European societies, regardless of their relevance to Canada. This partial and selective story is well on its way to becoming our country’s “official history”. It is increasingly taught in our schools and is constantly regurgitated by prominent members of the Canadian intelligentsia. One of the latest to do so is Niigaan Sinclair, Associate Professor of native studies at the University of Manitoba and son of Senator Murray Sinclair, former chair of the Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission…

… There is no evidence that the aboriginal settlers of the Americas, as full and equal members of the human race, were any different from their pre-modern counterparts all across the globe, including Western Europe

… In every other culture but Sinclair’s, apparently, infanticide was used to control population growth beyond the environmental carrying capacity of stone-age hunters and gatherers; ethnic cleansing was undertaken against alien neighbours when local groups exceeded the demographic sustainability of their territories under simple forms of farming; cannibalism was practiced as a response to hunger or to capture the spiritual power of competitors; wholesale extermination of enemies – genocide – was organized and executed to seize territory or eliminate military threats; and just about any alien group (now called “subalterns” in Marxist postcolonial studies) was subject to enslavement in support of forced labour, sexual exploitation, trade, or status enhancement…Around the world, groups that excelled at these practices, including the Aztec of Mexico and Inca of Peru, slowly evolved into state-level societies. In the process they typically conquered, exiled, or absorbed their neighbours. Sometimes they butchered them for food, as the Aztecs did…

… What Sinclair ignores most of all is that, unlike so many other places in the world, including Western Europe where even the names of most preliterate indigenous groups disappeared millennia ago, the post-contact European treatment of Canada’s original inhabitants involved neither genocide, nor slavery, nor ethnic cleansing, nor total assimilation, nor tribute extraction. On the contrary, though there was an unfortunate and unjustified period of legislated racial segregation for treaty Indians between 1885 and 1951, as well as other small and large injustices from first contact to the present, European settlement starting in 1535 eventually resulted in permanent pacification (the abolition of tribal warfare and the voluntary signing of treaties), the free and lively exchange of aboriginal products for European manufactured goods for 250 years, tens of billions of dollars spent since Confederation in 1867 to enhance the well-being of indigenous peoples, and an Indian Act (1876) and the Constitution Act (1982) – both rooted in the Royal Proclamation of 1763 – which defined, enhanced, and preserved the special rights and privileges of aboriginals (especially their treaty rights).

Warts and all, no country has ever done more for its indigenous people. And Professor Sinclair’s haughty claims to aboriginal moral superiority over European savagery have no foundation in Canadian history. – The myth of indigenous utopia | C2C Journal

Might Francis agree with the Anti-Christian propaganda taught at Nancy Pelosi/Gavin Newsom schoolsthat “made national headlines… for literally suggesting children chant to the Aztec gods of cannibalism and human sacrifice”?  In 2021, The Epoch Times reported:

This is part 19 in a series examining education in the United States.

Long before California’s infamous “ethnic studies” curriculum made national headlines last month for literally suggesting children chant to the Aztec gods of cannibalism and human sacrifice, the insidious weaponization of “race” and “racism” had already overtaken the nation’s government school system.

The racist effort to divide and conquer Americans by “race,” all under the guise of examining everything through the “lens of racism” and fighting “structural” or “systemic” racism, has come to be known as Critical Race Theory, or CRT. [https://www.theepochtimes.com/mkt_morningbrief/echoes-of-mao-weaponizing-schools-with-critical-race-theory_3769243.html?utm_source=Morningbrief&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=mb-2021-04-14&mktids=c3fec90b6b98f0d1883cadde90b488d2&est=%2BCke%2BAS%2FBEveDBRKTHkS125250bR56UJEjbCizdFl95TiD91DMlPHsDCHQWd]

Glenn Beck revealed the level of Anti-Christian propaganda taught at Pelosi/Newsom’s schools:

Glenn read an excerpt from the National Review report describing the curriculum:

Students are to be taught that white Christian settlers committed “theocide” against indigenous tribes when they arrived in the New World by murdering Native American gods and replacing them with the Christian God. According to the curriculum, this replacement ushered in a regime defined by “coloniality, dehumanization, and genocide,” and the “explicit erasure and replacement of holistic Indigeneity and humanity.” But all is not lost, we are told. For students will learn that they have the power and the responsibility to build a social order defined by “countergenocide,” which will eventually supplant the last vestiges of colonial Christianity and pave the way for the “regeneration of indigenous epistemic and cultural futurity.”

Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka — whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifice and cannibalism — asking him for the power to be “warriors” for “social justice.” Next, the students chant to the gods Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totek, seeking “healing epistemologies” and “a revolutionary spirit.” Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices during Aztec rule.[https://www.theblaze.com/shows/the-glenn-beck-program/california-schools-chant-aztec?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1]

North Korea Smells Weakness, Threatens Biden with Nuclear War

Just a few years ago, when Donald Trump was the man sitting at the Resolute Desk, North Korea wouldn’t have dared to threaten the United States with nuclear war.

In fact, Trump became the first US President ever to step foot inside of North Korea, invited there by Kim Jong Un himself after a series of highly successful diplomatic maneuvers.

For Joe Biden, however, Kim has a completely different message.

https://decide.dev/lad/12702276120947302?pubid=ld-3754-3499&pubo=https%3A%2F%2Fredrightpatriot.com&rid=&width=696

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warned he’s ready to use his nuclear weapons in potential military conflicts with the United States and South Korea, state media said Thursday, as he unleashed fiery rhetoric against rivals he says are pushing the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war.

Kim’s speech to war veterans on the 69th anniversary of the end of the 1950-53 Korean War were apparently meant to boost internal unity in the impoverished country suffering pandemic-related economic difficulties. North Korea will likely intensify its threats against the United States and South Korea as the allies prepare to expand summertime exercises the North views as an invasion rehearsal, some observers say.

“Our armed forces are completely prepared to respond to any crisis, and our country’s nuclear war deterrent is also ready to mobilize its absolute power dutifully, exactly and swiftly in accordance with its mission,” Kim said in Wednesday’s speech, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

And that wasn’t all:

He accused the United States of “demonizing” North Korea to justify its hostile policies. He said U.S.-South Korea military drills show the U.S.’s “double standards” and “gangster-like” aspects because it brands North Korea’s routine military activities — an apparent reference to its missile tests — as provocations or threats.

The threat comes amid similar aggression from both Russia and China, who’ve themselves seemed to feel no fear in dealing with the Biden administration.

Public Life Is Crazy, but Americans Aren’t

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, after closing for a while, plans a comeback next year—without elephants or lions or other animals. The circus was cruel to the creatures, it was decided, so in the future they will be absent from the big top.

No matter. If it’s beasts of the jungle you want—the savageries of nature, red in tooth and claw—politics and media offer an ongoing and spectacular show replete with raging ideology, riots, race hate, store looting, police-car burning, pageant plays, Proud Boys, deadly pandemics, mass shootings, cops caught on video doing dastardly things, the Capitol assaulted by mobs. Politics and media are co-producers of the immense 21st-century moral circus. It offers Americans such grand and enraging constitutional spectacles as Roe and Dobbs, such extravaganzas as the Transgender Follies and White Supremacy vs. Black Lives Matter. Held over (though not necessarily by popular demand): The Orange Man and the Dotard.

In the meantime, Americans struggle with their private lives and sort out their private thoughts. Sometimes, it is true, they are inflamed by the tremendous agitations of the circus. How could they not be? But the private mind is still committed to the sanity and realism that are necessities of survival. What Americans worry about is inflation. Reality is an insistent thing. Grown-ups know that they are being imposed on by the big show. They understand that a circus is a circus. The sane American mind—mens sana in corpore morbido—is the best hope now, I suspect.

The issues (abortion, for example) are urgent and real, but private thought seems to understand the complexities more subtly, more responsibly, than do ideologues and performers in the mosh pits of media. The private mind can spot the public con. It used to, anyway. Private citizens know that many decisions in life—most, perhaps—are difficult and may involve 48/52 calls, even 49/51. It’s true in choosing a mate and other important matters.

Public performance inherently simplifies and falsifies—such are the ways of theater, careerism, politics and, alas, journalism, too. You have a better story to tell if the details are gaudy and vivid—and, as may happen, even false. This is nothing new. Shakespeare understood. “King Lear,” the greatest of his plays, is filled with transcendent truth. But it would be a dull production if the old man merely wound up in a mediocre nursing home in Wichita, Kan., with unpleasant daughters who complained about how much it cost. The old king must be homeless and naked on the heath. He must be eloquently, cosmically insane. The younger generation must be either saintly (Edgar, Cordelia) or monstrous (Edmund, Goneril, Regan), and before the evening is over, the stage must be littered with corpses. The monsters and saints in “Lear” are one another’s evil twins, like the political left and right in our time.

American politics and media are deeply competitive forms of entertainment, information and propaganda. Both have, since the 1960s, been Shakespearean in their stagecraft, although not in their language or subtlety of thought. The baby-boom generation, now as old as the old king, enacted the plot of “Lear”—an immense tale of supersession. That generation, when young, overturned the fathers’ authority and all their ways. It did so first with Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and the Vietnam War. In time, the principle of renovation by patricide developed broader ambitions and began to assault all the “patriarchal” norms, including marriage and, after that, the very idea of man and woman. The old solidities must be dissolved. (But why, exactly?)

Such is the dramaturgy of American public culture, of a performative public mind that is addicted to its sensations and categories. The American ideologue is a drama queen. I’m perhaps kidding myself, but I suspect that Americans in the privacy of their own minds, in conversation among friends and family, remain in touch with reality. On the subject of abortion, for example, or on race, guns and transgenderism, the private mind remains fairly sensible and humane. It remains capable, among other things, of tolerating
