Media Ignore Antifa Assault On Christians August 11, 2021 Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on media coverage of an Antifa event: Antifa, the urban terrorists, brutally assaulted Christians who were praying in a Portland park on August 7th, and the media have almost totally ignored it. Dressed in black, with face coverings, the left-wing nihilists destroyed the sound system and assaulted the Evangelicals with pepper spray and projectiles. Andy Ngo, the reporter who has covered Antifa better than anyone—and has been beaten up for doing so—recorded this savage event. Flash bombs were thrown at kids as young as four months old. “Where is your god now?” asked an Antifa thug. The police were called to the scene but did nothing. They were acting rationally: The authorities have yielded power to street barbarians, handcuffing the cops. The same passive police presence is now routine in America’s largest cities, thanks to no bail, no prosecutions, no insurance protection for cops, and calls to dismantle the police and empty the prisons. Quite frankly, it is now borderline legal to kill and maim innocent persons in urban America, including those whose crime it is to pray in public, never mind the police. Anarchy reigns. And what do the media do? Nothing. Not one major newspaper or wire service covered the Antifa assault on Christians. Broadcast TV networks also ignored it, and among the cable channels, only the three conservative outlets, Fox News, Newsmax and OAN profiled the story. Ngo had video footage but had few takers. By contrast, the recent CNN interview with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) was covered by almost all the mainstream media: print, internet and television gave it wide attention. She said that on the day of the Capitol riot, January 6, she feared for her life, adding that she also feared she would be raped. Yet unlike the Christians who were attacked, no one laid a hand on her. They couldn’t—she was not in the Capitol when the riot occurred (she was safely tucked away in her office). Unlike the Christian victims of Antifa, AOC’s tale of woe is patently contrived. For the media to play up her phony story while dismissing the real-life Antifa riot, smacks of ideological and religious bias. No wonder the public holds the big media in such low esteem. Cub reporters earn more respect these days.

Is the Catholic Media in an Abusive Relationship with Francis similar to that between a Demon and a Possessed Person?

A couple of days ago, I asked “Is there a Catholic Media “Tipping Point” when it “Decide[s]” its “Credibility” will be Lost in Covering-up for Francis like with the Fake Media on Cuomo?” [https://www.thecatholicmonitor.com/2021/08/is-there-catholic-media-tipping-point.html]

The answer appears to be “no”!

Almost all of the Traditionalist and conservative Catholic media as well as those who follow them seem to be in an abusive relationship with Francis similar to the relationship between a demon and a possessed person:

Chad Ripperger mentioned in a lecture on exorcism that if we wanted to understand the psychology of demons then we ought to study the psychology of abusive relationships because demons establish abusive relationships with their prey. All abuse victim who stay in a relationship with an abuser are called enablers.

Next question, what type of enabler might they be?

The literature on narcissist enablers claims there are types of enablers:

The Catholic media appears to be the second type of enabler as are all Francis traditionalists.

All Francis traditionalists don’t agree with Francis on pachamama idolatry, diversity of religions, Communion for adulterers and the betrayal of the Chinese underground Church, but they enable Francis to keep doing these blasphemies against God and battering faithful Catholics.

Moreover, all the Francis traditionalists will never stop defending Francis’s “papal right” to keep committing blasphemies against God and battering faithful Catholics black and blue such as his latest attack on the Traditional Latin Mass and his betrayal of the China Catholics because “he’s our pope” and “we must keep the peace and not have schism” despite the blasphemies and batterings.

“Wesolowski was put under Vatican house arrest 14 months after the pope judged him to be guilty only after ‘there was a serious risk that [he] would be arrested on Italian territory at the request of the Dominican Republic authorities and then extradited,’ as reported by Corriere della Sera. The archbishop was found with more than 100,000 computer files of child pornography, a “key ingredient” in sex trafficking. Wesolowski continued to possess child pornography even under Vatican house arrest.”

“Kamil Jarzembowski, a former student at the Vatican’s preseminary, wrote a letter about the sexual abuse of minors in the school and handed it directly to Pope Francis. The pope did nothing to stop it.”

“Pope Francis had ordered an investigation of Honduran Bishop Juan José Pineda by an Argentine bishop who was “shocked” by “accounts of sexual abuse perpetrated against priests and seminarians …. So far the only action that has been taken has been to send Bishop Pineda to stay with Jesuits in Madrid on a short retreat,” wrote veteran Vatican reporter Edward Pentin.”

“Pope Francis promoted Archbishop Luis Ladaria Ferrer as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican department that judges cases of clergy sexual abuse. While Ladaria held the second highest position in the CDF, he found Fr. Gianni Trotta guilty of sexually abusing minors in 2012 but failed to inform the Italian authorities. Trotta, already convicted of sexual violence against an 11-year-old and sentenced to eight years in prison by a civil court, is now standing trial for nine other alleged cases of sex abuse against boys that occurred in 2014. Ladaria, himself, will stand trial in April, accused by French authorities of “complicity in the alleged cover-up” of Fr. Bernard Preynat.”

“A month after his election, the pope appointed a Council of Cardinals to help him govern the Church. Three of the eight initial members had protected pedophile priests: George Pell, Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa, and Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga who he named as head of the council.”

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.

Informed consent disclosure to vaccine trial subjects of risk of COVID-19 vaccines worsening clinical disease

Abstract

Aims of the study: Patient comprehension is a critical part of meeting medical ethics standards of informed consent in study designs. The aim of the study was to determine if sufficient literature exists to require clinicians to disclose the specific risk that COVID-19 vaccines could worsen disease upon exposure to challenge or circulating virus.

Methods used to conduct the study: Published literature was reviewed to identify preclinical and clinical evidence that COVID-19 vaccines could worsen disease upon exposure to challenge or circulating virus. Clinical trial protocols for COVID-19 vaccines were reviewed to determine if risks were properly disclosed.

Results of the study: COVID-19 vaccines designed to elicit neutralising antibodies may sensitise vaccine recipients to more severe disease than if they were not vaccinated. Vaccines for SARS, MERS and RSV have never been approved, and the data generated in the development and testing of these vaccines suggest a serious mechanistic concern: that vaccines designed empirically using the traditional approach (consisting of the unmodified or minimally modified coronavirus viral spike to elicit neutralising antibodies), be they composed of protein, viral vector, DNA or RNA and irrespective of delivery method, may worsen COVID-19 disease via antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This risk is sufficiently obscured in clinical trial protocols and consent forms for ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials that adequate patient comprehension of this risk is unlikely to occur, obviating truly informed consent by subjects in these trials.

Conclusions drawn from the study and clinical implications: The specific and significant COVID-19 risk of ADE should have been and should be prominently and independently disclosed to research subjects currently in vaccine trials, as well as those being recruited for the trials and future patients after vaccine approval, in order to meet the medical ethics standard of patient comprehension for informed consent.

Nursing homes and the families of victims, who suffered under Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s mismanagement of COVID-19 throughout the state’s nursing homes, are celebrating the governor’s long-awaited resignation on Tuesday.

Cuomo finally decided to resign amid multiple scandals. His resignation will become effective in 14 days and will leave Lieutenant Governor of New York Kathy Hochul as the state’s new governor. While Cuomo’s resignation statement seemed to primarily address findings from an independent investigation commissioned by New York Attorney General Letitia James that found Cuomo sexually harassed or assaulted 11 women, the families and individuals who have been impacted by his nursing home scandal welcomed the governor’s resignation.

Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, who lost both her mother-in-law and father-in-law to COVID-19 in New York nursing homes, has been one of the most outspoken critics of Cuomo’s pandemic policies. To Dean, Cuomo’s resignation came both as a shock and a relief.

Prior to Cuomo announcing his resignation, Dean tweeted her prediction of what the governor would say. “My prediction of @NYGovCuomo’s statements coming up today: blame, blame, blame, didn’t mean to, didn’t do it, they’re out to get me. And I’m not resigning.  The end.”

Federal Court Blocks Biden Policy That Would Have Forced Christian Doctors to Do Abortions

A federal court has blocked a harmful Biden administration policy that would force Christian doctors and hospitals to kill babies in abortions.

In June 2020, President Donald Trump issued a pro-life rule to protect pro-life Americans and help save babies from abortion. His administration implemented a rule to block the effects of a dangerous Obamacare provision that could be used to compel doctors to participate in abortions.

In May, Joe Biden reversed it.

But late Monday, a federal court in Texas just blocked the policy, which would also force religious doctors and hospitals to perform gender transition procedures on their patients—including children. The Biden administration will have 60 days to decide whether to appeal the court’s ruling.

The case of Franciscan Alliance v. Becerra was brought by a religious hospital, an association of over 20,000 healthcare professionals, and nine states, and it is now the second court ruling blocking the Biden administration from enforcing the policy.

“Today’s ruling is a victory for compassion, conscience, and common sense,” said Luke Goodrich, vice president and senior counsel at Becket. “No doctor should be forced to perform controversial, medically unsupported procedures that are contrary to their conscience and could be deeply harmful to their patients.”

“These religious doctors and hospitals provide top-notch medical care to all patients for everything from cancer to the common cold,” said Goodrich. “Everyone benefits when doctors are able to follow their professional medical judgment and their Hippocratic Oath to ‘Do No Harm.’”

During the trump administration, the Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule that revises 2016 provisions of the Obamacare section 1557 rule that had redefined discrimination “on the basis of sex” to include “pregnancy termination.” The new rule protected doctors, nurses and medical professionals from being compelled to assist abortions.

Biden’s decision overturned the Trump rule, which had defined “sex” as gender assigned at birth and clarified that sex discrimination does not include abortion when it comes to health care and coverage.

“HHS respects the dignity of every human being, and as we have shown in our response to the pandemic, we vigorously protect and enforce the civil rights of all to the fullest extent permitted by our laws as passed by Congress,” Roger Severino, former director of OCR, said in June 2020 when the pro-life Trump rule was initially put in place. “We are unwavering in our commitment to enforcing civil rights in healthcare.”

The Biden administration’s new interpretation, if court allow it to be implemented, would guide OCR in conducting investigations and processing complaints, an HHS press release said, but will not “itself determine the outcome in any particular case or set of facts.”

Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine also said in a statement that HHS seeks to “enhance the health and well-being of all Americans.”

Before the November presidential election, Biden indicated he would eliminate conscience protections for pro-life health care providers, forcing them to adhere to pro-abortion ideology even if it conflicts with their medical judgment.

Terry Schilling, executive director of American Principles Project, told LifeNews.com that this is a radical pro-abortion agenda out of step with most Americans.

After Trump adopted the rule, a leading pro-life group praised him.

“President Trump is the most pro-life president our nation has ever seen, and today he delivered another important victory for conscience in America. Abortion is not health care and should never be mandated by the government,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

She told LifeNews.com: “The Obama/Biden administration sought to expand abortion at every turn, even trying to reinterpret federal law to define abortion as a civil right. Since serving in the Obama administration, Joe Biden’s views on abortion have become even more extreme, as he now supports forcing taxpayers to pay for abortion on demand – even brutal late-term abortions. We thank President Trump and Secretary Azar for standing firmly on the side of the majority of Americans who reject taxpayer funding of abortion, and for the action taken today to roll back the Obama/Biden-era assault on conscience.

Mary Beth Waddell, who serves as the Senior Legislative Assistant for Family Research Council, told LifeNews.com that the Trump rule protects doctors, nurses and medical professionals from being compelled to assist abortions.

Waddell said that, “Under the old Obama rule, medical professionals could have been forced to facilitate … abortions — even if they believed this was a violation of their conscience or believed it harmful to the patient.”

The Heritage Foundation’s senior research fellow Ryan T. Anderson, who submitted comments on the Trump rule and wrote on the Obama-era HHS and HUD regulations, had the following response after Trump adopted it:

“Truth matters and words have meaning. The Trump administration is right to formally rescind Obamacare regulations that radically altered the meaning of ‘sex’ to mean things it doesn’t. Today’s action follows the precedent of a federal court issuing a 50-state preliminary injunction that blocked these unlawful regulations from ever taking effect.”

“When Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, it prohibited discrimination on the basis of ‘sex.’ Several years later, the Obama administration redefined ‘sex’ to mean … termination of pregnancy. In addition to being an unlawful abuse of agency power, these rules would have caused serious harm.”

“They would have required doctors, hospitals, and health care organizations to act in ways contrary to their best medical judgments, their consciences, and the physical realities of their patients, or face steep fines and become easy targets for unreasonable and costly lawsuits.”

He concluded that federal law should not “force anyone to violate their prolife conscience or the privacy and safety of others in the name of political correctness.”

Vatican whistleblower Abp. Carlo Maria Viganò, former papal nuncio to the United States, has warned about the encroachment of globalist plans that threaten the sovereignty of nations and the ability of citizens to preserve their religious freedom. His open letter to President Trump in May warned that the COVID-19 pandemic was being used to usher in a “world government” resulting in permanent loss of personal freedoms. He launched a website that called for people of goodwill to guard against tyranny; the “Appeal for the Church and the World,” included signatures by 40,000 Catholic prelates, journalists, writers, immunologists, virologists, researchers, attorneys and others. In June, he wrote another open letter that sought to encourage the president in his fight against the “deep State.” On Oct. 25, the Solemnity of Christ the King (Extraordinary Form), Abp. Viganò penned a third letter to Trump, urging him on in the fight against the “Great Reset,” an oncoming “health dictatorship.” What follows is his reaction to the Vatican’s proclaimed support for worldwide COVID vaccination.

Considerations on the promotion of the vaccine by the Holy See

A few days ago, an interview was broadcast on Canale 5 in which Jorge Mario Bergoglio appeared in the unusual role of sponsor of the pharmaceutical companies. We had already seen him in the role of politician, of trade unionist, of promoter of uncontrolled immigration, of supporter of welcoming illegal immigrants and of philanthropist. In all of these metamorphoses what has always emerged, alongside his capacity to totally remove himself from his institutional role, is the polyhedric character of the Argentine, who, we now discover, is also the promoter of pharmaceutical companies, a convinced supporter of vaccines and a zealous cheerleader of those who for a year now have been using COVID as a means to control the masses and to impose the Great Resetdesired by the World Economic Forum.

The fact that the vaccine does not give any guarantee of efficacy but rather can induce serious side effects; the fact that in some cases it has been produced starting from cells taken from aborted fetuses, and therefore is absolutely irreconcilable with Catholic morality; the fact that treatment with hyper-immune plasma or with alternative protocols are being boycotted despite the evidence of their efficacy — all of this means little to the new “expert” who, on the basis of absolutely zero medical competency, is now recommending the vaccine to the faithful while using his sovereign authority to require the citizens of the Vatican to submit to questionable treatment in the name of an unspecified “ethical duty.” The bleak Paul VI Audience Hall has been emblematically chosen as the temple in which to celebrate this new sanitary rite, officiated by ministers of the COVID religion in order to assure, certainly not the salvation of souls, but rather the illusory promise of health for the body.

It is disconcerting that, after unscrupulously demolishing no small number of Catholic truths in the name of dialogue with heretics and idolaters, the one dogma which Bergoglio is not ready to renounce is that of obligatory vaccination — mind you, a dogma which he himself unilaterally defined without any synodal process! — a dogma before which one would expect there to be at least a minimum of prudence, if not dictated by moral coherence, then at least by utilitarian scruple. Because sooner or later, when the effects of the vaccine on the population are seen, when they begin to count the deaths it has caused and how many people have been maimed for life by a drug that is still in the process of experimentation, someone will be able to ask those who were convinced supporters of the vaccine to render an account.When you stop believing in God, you can believe anything.GabTweet

At that point it will only be natural to draw up a list of those who, in virtue of the authority with which they are recognized, have convinced their unsuspecting subjects to present themselves for inoculation by the so-called vaccine: self-proclaimed experts, virologists and immunologists with a conflict of interest, mosquito scientists in the pay of Big Pharma, veterinarians with scientific ambitions, government-funded journalists and opinion-shapers, and movie stars and popular singers in disgrace — to which list Bergoglio must now be added as an exceptional supporter, along with the prelates in his entourage. And if today the lack of specific competency does not seem to be a sufficient argument to lead them to at least maintain a prudent silence, at that point their protests of “I didn’t know …”; “I never imagined …”; “It wasn’t my field of knowledge …”; will be judged only to be a factor that aggravates their offense, as it should be. Stultum est dicere putabam [It is foolish to say, “I thought”].

Of course, in the Bergoglian church de facto concubinage can be legitimized with Amoris Lætitia, to the point that Avvenire speaks today of “LGBT parenting” with the ease of a gender propaganda pamphlet; an idolatrous rite worshipping Mother Earth can be celebrated in Saint Peter’s winking at Malthusian environmentalism; the matter for the sacrament of Holy Orders can be modified, conferring ministries on women; the death penalty can be declared immoral while casually keeping quiet about abortion; Communion can be administered to public sinners while denying it to those who wish to receive it on the tongue in order not to commit sacrilege; and access to the classroom can be denied for Catholic school students who are not vaccinated, as has already happened in Ireland. And yet these blatant adulterations of Catholic doctrine — in perfect ideological continuity with the conciliar revolution — are accompanied by the firm and unshakeable profession of faith in a “science” that borders on esotericism and superstition. On the other hand, when you stop believing in God, you can believe anything.

Thus, if for Bergoglio belonging to the one Church of Christ through baptism is ultimately superfluous for the eternal salvation of a soul, the initiatory rite of the vaccine is proclaimed ex cathedra to be indispensable for the physical health of the individual, and as such it is presented as undelayable and necessary. If it is possible to set aside revealed truth in the name of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, it is likewise not licit to question the dogmas of COVID, the revelation made by the media about the pandemic, and the salvific sacrament of the vaccine. And if with Fratelli Tutti universal brotherhood can be promoted apart from faith in the One God Living and True, no contact is permitted with so-called “deniers” — a new category of sinners to be avoided — who must be punished as heretics by the health inquisition and media excommunication so as to be made a warning to the flock. “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him in your house and do not greet him,” St. John warns (2 John 10). It does not escape us that this scientistic dogmatism — which would horrify the most ardent supporters of the primacy of science over religion — is propagated by those who are not scientists, from “influencers” to Bergoglio, from athletes to Biden, from “experts” to politicians — all eager to put out their arms in front of the television cameras, only to discover from the videos that in many cases the syringe needle is still covered by the cap, or that the inoculating liquid is clear when the vaccinating serum should actually be opaque. These are obviously objections that the high priests of COVID reject with disdain: The mysterium is part of the ritualization of the sacred action, just as the sacramentum accomplishes what it signifies; administering the vaccine with a retractable needle or without pushing the plunger of the syringe serves to dramatize the message that is to be transmitted to the masses of believers. And the victims of the rite, those who for the good of all offer themselves with docility to the mirage of an immunity that not even Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca dare to guarantee, represents the sacrificium, which is also part of the new health religion. On closer inspection, the innocent babies aborted in the third month of pregnancy to produce vaccines really do seem to form a sort of human sacrifice with which to propitiate the infernal powers, in a terrifying parody that only the wicked can pretend not to see.The only role that Bergoglio stubbornly insists on not wanting to fill … is the role of vicar of Christ.GabTweet

In the grotesque ceremonial delirium, there is not even lacking the Note of the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship, which with a total disregard for the absurd even promulgates in limping Latin instructions on how to impose the Sacred Ashes (it is not surprising that Latin too has gone to fry): “Deinde sacerdos abstergit manus ac personam ad protegendas nares et os induit [Then the priest washes his hands and puts on the mask to protect his nose and mouth].” The purification of the hands with detergent and the use of a mask are scientifically useless but symbolically necessary for the transmission of the faith expressed by the rite. And precisely in this we understand how true and valid is the ancient adage of Prosper of Aquitaine, “Lex orandi, lex credendi,” according to which the way in which one prays reflects what one believes.

Someone will object, in a pious attempt to avoid the total collapse of the papacy carried out by Bergoglio, that the opinions expressed by him are and remain precisely opinions, and that therefore there is no obligation for the Catholic to submit to a vaccine which his conscience and natural morality demonstrate to be immoral. But the new “papal magisterium” has been made explicit right on Canale 5, just as it was on the plane that the LGBT dogma “Who am I to judge?” was defined, and just as it was in a footnote of Amoris Lætitia that the indissolubility of marriage was denied in the name of pastoral practice. Politicians put out tweets on social media, self-styled experts pontificate in television studios, and prelates preach in interviews: Do not be surprised if one day Bergoglio appears in a publicity spot to endorse electric scooters.

Catholics, illuminated by the sensus fidei that instinctively suggests to them what clashes with faith and morals, have already understood that the role of health care supply salesman is only one of the many parts played by the polyhedric Bergoglio. The only role that he stubbornly insists on not wanting to fill — because of his blatant incapacity, his innate impatience or even through his deliberate choice right from the beginning — is the role of vicar of Christ. Which, if nothing else, reveals the points of reference of the Argentine, the ideology which inspires him, the goals he sets for himself, and the means he intends to use in order to achieve them.

Cuomo’s Very Catholic Ending August 10, 2021 Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the collapse of Gov. Cuomo: On this date in 258, St. Lawrence was roasted to death on a gridiron for remaining loyal to the Catholic Church. Fast forward to August 10, 2021, when another Catholic, New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is being roasted by the media for his disloyalties. Indeed, he’s toast. Even in leaving, Cuomo still doesn’t get it. “In my mind,” he said, “I’ve never crossed the line with anyone. But I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn.” He should have—he was the one who redrew it. In 2019, he bragged that New York is “the most aggressive state in the country on women’s rights. Anything I can do on sexual harassment we will do.” Thus did he unwittingly lay the trap that would eventually ensnare him. In 2019, the “former altar boy,” as he liked to refer to himself, signed the Child Victims Act, a law which suspended the statute of limitations for sexual offenses against minors. At the time, he singled out the Catholic Church for condemnation, knowing full well that this problem was most acute in the public schools. Last year, he authorized a one-year extension of the law (the statute applied to others but rapacious lawyers focused almost exclusively on the Catholic Church). How ironic it is to note that the Child Victims Act, which was never about justice for everyone, is set to expire on August 14, the same week Cuomo packed it in following multiple sexual misconduct allegations. Now, at least, there may be justice for his many alleged female victims. As such, this is making for a very Catholic ending.

Does Francis know he is a “Halfway” resignation pope according to journalist and Vatican expert Antonio Socci?

Socci in his book said “during the days of the polemical statements [by Team Francis] concerning Ratzinger’s preface to the book of Cardinal Sarah Bergoglio [Francis] gave a homily that seemed to be a criticism of the pope emeritus, specifically for his ‘halfway’ resignation.”

Francis said:

“[A] pastor has to… take his leave well, to not leave only halfway.”

Socci questioned:

“To whom is he referring? To Benedict XVI who relinquished all the power of governance while remaining pope?”

In Francis apparently criticizing Benedict’s “halfway” resignation is he implicitly admitting the thesis of Dr. Ed Mazza that “Benedict XVI who relinquished all the power of governance [as the Bishop of Rome]… remain[ed]… pope [the Successor of Peter] ” according to Socci?

The thesis of Dr. Mazza that Pope Benedict relinquished the power of the Bishop of Rome while remaining the pope (the Successor of Peter) seems to be restating or at least mirroring Antonio Socci’s theory.

The Socci book theorizes that there would be a “state of exception” which some call a “Case of Necessity.”

Both use the quoted phrase a “state of exception” in their thesis.

Benedict’s resignation said:

“[M]y strengths… are no longer suited to the adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.”

For theologian and canonist Stefano Violi the key limiting term or word in the resignation is “exercise”:

“[T]he limited renunciation of the active exercise of the munus constitutes the absolute novelty of the renunciation of Benedict XVI.”

Respected canonist Guido Ferro Canales says that this type of “renunciation” echoes the famous German Philosopher Carl Schmitt’s “philosophical category of a ‘state of exception'”:

“Here, the ‘state of exception’ is to be understood… the suspension of the entire order of law that is in force. If this situation occurs, it is clear that the State continues, while the law is lost.”

Canales explains how this applies to the “limited renunciation” that was examined by Violi:

“The pontificate of Benedict XVI became a ‘pontificate of exception’ by virtue of his resignation… A state of affairs that cannot be regulated a priori and thus, if it occurs, requires the suspension of the entire juridical order.”

Scholars Alon Harel and Assaf Sharon explain how Aquinas sees the “state of exception” or “Case of Necessity”:

In the Summa Theologica Aquinas addresses the case of necessity by focusing on the limits of legislation. Aquinas asserts that: The lawgiver cannot have in view every single case, he shapes the law according to what happens more frequently by directing his attention to the common good. Wherefore, if a case arises wherein the observance of that law would be hurtful to the general welfare, it should not be observed.11Furthermore, Aquinas recognizes that cases falling into this category are not  “legislatable” and adds that:

 He who in a case of necessity acts besides the letter of the law does not judge of the law but of a particular case in which he sees that the letter of the law is not to be observed. 

Last, Aquinas stresses that agents operating under these exceptional circumstances are  not accountable to the law as in ordinary cases. Scholar Michael Davies explained how the teaching of Aquinas’ “necessity knows no law” or “case of necessity” applied to Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre referencing St. Athanasius (and now according to the above scholars to the Benedict resignation):

Archbishop Lefebvre has been compared rightly to St.Athanasius. He is the Athanasius of our times. Like St.Athanasius and like St. Eusebius of Samosata, he went into the dioceses of bishops who were not acting as good shepherds, to give the people the instruction, the sacramental grace, and the pastors that they needed. For one bishop to intrude into the diocese of another is a very serious matter. It can only be justified if there is a state of necessity. A state of emergency, urgency, or necessity occurs in the Church when its continuation, order, or activity are threatened or harmed in an important way, and the emergency cannot be overcome by observing the normal positive laws. The emergency would relate principally to teaching, the liturgy, and ecclesiastical discipline. An interesting reference to such a situation occurs in a study of the Church’s divine constitution by Dom Adrien Grea, OSB, in his examination of the extraordinary powers of the episcopate:

“In the fourth century St. Eusebius of Samosata traveled thorough Eastern dioceses devastated by the Arians and ordained orthodox pastors for them, without having particular jurisdiction over them. Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.
