Words of Our Blessed Mother

“The world is tainted with sin.

Where there should be light, there is darkness.

Where there should be holiness, there is wickedness.

Where there should be truth, there is error.

Men’s souls are tormented for they have a memory of light, of holiness and of truth,

For they have been created in the image of God,

But the fallen tell men, “Those are false memories, for you have always been children of the dark.”

But I am sent that men might remember.

For I was born with no darkness in my soul,

And, therefore, my light is uncorrupted and pure.

Seeing me and hearing my words, man remembers that light he has known,

Though it now burns dim in his soul.

I illuminate the path for him, and the fallen flee,

And the darkness is made light.

The night I was born, the world was brighter

Because I was sent to provide a place for the light of the world,

For He could not abide in darkness.

Therefore, I was born into light.

The Holy Trinity bathed my bed in light,

And the angels praised God in that light,

And in their praise to God, holy light fell upon me like raindrops.

The world is dark, and men’s souls have forgotten the light,

But I am here among you,

And I testify of the great light that dispels all darkness.

My birth brought light at the dawn of salvation,

For I was the foreshadowing of the light and the love of my Son,

And now in Him is the fullness of light and the fulness of love,

And now is the day of your salvation in Him.

I disperse what my Son gives.

I am the mediator of His gifts.

It is the Son who brings the gifts,

But as God shared in being human with man,

I provided a cradle for this gift by becoming the Mother of God,

And I share this gift of My Son with man.

I was called to be His Mother,

And in this calling,

I also became your Mother.

I am also the Mother of His Church.

You are baptized and united unto the Body of Christ,

And I am the Mother of all members of His Church,

So, therefore, I am the Mother of His Church.  

For in giving birth to my Son, I gave birth to each of you.

I held only my Son in my arms at His birth,

But if you have come unto my Son,

Then where He is are you also,

And, therefore, I hold you, and I am your Mother.

I was there when the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost,

And I was witness to the birth of His Church,

And I am the spiritual Mother of the Church.

The fallen now attack the Church,

And I cry out to my children to listen to my words,

For my words dispel darkness.

For in my words the path to my Son is illuminated,

And He is the source of all light

My children, return to me and sit at my knee,

And remember the truths you were taught as a child.

Depart not from these truths.  

For a great light has come into the world,

And in this light is all truth,

And the darkness is made light in Him.

Heed my words,

For there is much calamity to come if men continue to walk in the dark.

But look to your Mother.

Allen West said President Barack Obama is an Islamist who is intentionally working against the security of the United States.  “The only plausible explanation for many actions taken by President Obama and his administration is that they are working counter to the security of the United States of America,” the retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel wrote in a post on his website on Wednesday.  “Sorry, but I can only explain this one way: Barack Hussein Obama is an Islamist in his foreign policy perspectives and supports their cause.”

Probability of the re-introduction of nuclear war, after 70 years of successful arms control, increases dramatically as Obama will allow Iran to go nuclear.  Iran or a surrogate hopes to lay a nuke on New York City.  Why is New York City the favorite target of terrorists?  Only 37% of worldwide Jewry lives in Israel.  New York City is home to the largest Jewish community outside of Israel.  Tel Aviv is the world’s largest Jewish city, with 3.2 million Jews.  New York City is second largest with 2.0 million Jews – 1 out of every 7 Jews worldwide.  Anti-Semites like Obama and de Blasio can grease the skids for destruction of almost 15% of the world’s Jewish population, without actually “pushing the button”. 

New York City has a population of 8.2 million people and a population density of 27,000 people per square mile.  New York City is the only place in America where it is possible to murder 6 million people in less than two minutes.  It took Hitler seven years to murder 6 million Jews in Europe.  A post-nuclear Iran, or its surrogates, will annihilate 6 million Americans in less than two minutes.   As a Moslem, Obama hates the “Great Satan” – the United States.  Various electronic media have reported that Obama is loading his administration with fellow Moslems to facilitate take-over of our country, after its destruction.

According to 2012 CNN exit polling, 84% of New Yorkers are Obama supporters.  In Obama’s calculus, New York residents are useful idiots.  Having voted Obama into office twice, they have now outlived their usefulness.  Obama will accept murdering a few million Democrats in order to eliminate the large Jewish population of New York.  Maximilian Robespierre, architect of France’s Reign of Terror (1793-94) said, “You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

AMERICA HAS GONE DOWN THIS PATH BEFORE

There was another time in U.S. history when a president was incapable of serving. His name was Woodrow Wilson, and he had had a stroke, a debilitating one. He never recovered. For about 18 months, the nation was without a president. World War I was over, and the country was on the cusp of the Roaring 20s, so perhaps having a leader wasn’t as imperative.   Politico remembered Wilson’s October 1919 stroke in an October 2019 article. 
For a time, it was one of the greatest cover-ups in the annals of the American presidency. (Many more years would pass before ratification of the 25th Amendment in 1967, which specifies the procedures to be followed in the event of a presidential disability.)First Lady Edith Wilson would regularly review pending legislation and executive documents — becoming, according to some historians, the de facto acting president. 
Seem familiar? It should. 
A little more than a century later, history is repeating itself — sort of. President Joe Biden is functionally incapable of discharging his duties. Robotically signing executive orders doesn’t count. In 1919, the stroke that waylaid Wilson was covered up.  Wilson wasn’t paraded before the public. Then, a measure of decorum was maintained in deference to citizens’ sensibilities. (Wilson rode with his successor, Warren G. Harding, to Harding’s inaugural, but didn’t stay.)     Not so with Biden. The 46th president is trotted out before cameras often enough. Almost inevitably, some aspect of his meager performances proves his dysfunction. He fluffs lines, forgets, wanders off message, and, last Friday, stumbled so badly up the stairs to Air Force One that he was within an inch of serious injury.  Yet, however obvious Biden’s fumbles and stumbles, his performances are gaslighted by administration flaks and the mainstream media.  Nothing to see, so move on. The establishment damn well knows better, and should have the nation’s welfare at heart, but plays along.  Congressional Democrats play along, while congressional Republicans (many, not all) acquiesce. Pelosi and Schumer are full conspirators. McConnell plays dumb. Kevin McCarthy is mum. 
Biden was a functionally incapable candidate last year, of course. Voters knew it. Kids, cats, and dogs knew it. But Democrats were unfazed. Joe was a longtime familiar face.  Irascible, cheatin’,  influence-peddlin’ old Joe. He was kinda centrist, kinda liberal. Voters weren’t threatened by him, so party powerbrokers settled on him from a woeful field of Democrat presidential contenders.
Biden’s decline didn’t matter. Democrats had aces up their sleeves.  Why labor much to dupe Americans about Biden’s fitness? A little gaslighting was plenty. Election chicanery in five battleground states would fix the results. The fixes worked. 
The Biden formula hasn’t changed since his inauguration. A pinch of gaslighting, a pound of audacity, and another pound of flagrant disregard for the people’s will remains the recipe. The agenda is all that matters, and the cabal — comprised of Democrats, leftists, and plutocrats, chiefly — are driving it hard. They aim to cement Democrat control of politics, embed aspects of authoritarianism, and impose leftist policies on Americans.         But disaster is in the making. The cabal-manufactured border crisis and its drive to end America’s energy independence are “destroying our country,” asserts our former — and perhaps future — president Donald J. Trump. But open borders and ending energy independence are merely opening salvos in the cabal’s go at “transforming” America. 
We ain’t seen nothin’ yet. H.R. 1 (institutionalizing elections fraud), backdooring the Green New Deal, trillions in profligate spending, packing SCOTUS, gun control, and statehood for D.C. are in the offing. Democrats aim to muscle through these terrible initiatives.   
The big question is, can the people thwart the cabal’s designs? Can America avoid an outright debacle? Can grassroots patriots, courts, red states, alternative conservative media, clashes of interests, and the general institutional drag built into the Constitution slam the brakes on Democrats’ power grab and lurch leftward?
Will GOP-driven election reform in key states be enacted, thereby providing fairer playing fields for the 2022 m

idterm congressional elections, which are necessary to install a GOP House majority, at least?
A GOP House — preferably a Republican Congress — holds the power of the purse. Depriving the Biden administration of funds would tamp down the cabal’s ability to govern by fiat (executive order). 
Now until January 2025, the game is to throw as many wrenches into the Democrats’ machine as possible… grind it to a halt. Gridlock never looked so good. 
Yet, accomplishing gridlock won’t solve all the problems that the cabal is making.   There are matters domestic, and then there are matters foreign. The Constitution grants presidents significant leeway in conducting foreign affairs and national security. A president in charge isn’t a luxury. The nation’s enemies — with plenty of help from the Biden administration — perceive weakness. Biden, frail and practically checked out, is regarded as an open invitation to China, Russia, and Iran to push for advantages. 
The administration’s paper-tiger approach to China — secretary of state Tony Blinken had his head handed to him last week by PRC representatives Yang Jiechi and Wang Yi — only emboldens Xi Jinping. 
Publicly moralizing about the Uighurs and Hong Kongers, and foot-stomping about Taiwan, cyberattacks, and violations of “rules-based order,” means little to Xi and his cronies. Xi is a tyrant; power is his language. The pushback that Blinken and the U.S. contingent received from Xi’s envoys was an unhesitating show of contempt. That’s a harbinger and should worry Americans. In the days ahead, how will Xi test U.S. resolve?         Not only that, the real bone of contention with the PRC concerns the South and East China Seas — international waters and the airspace above — which the Chinese are attempting to seize. Xi controlling those seas has enormous economic and national security implications for the U.S. (and other nations, most directly those in the Asia Pacific). 
Countering China means not only continuing the revitalization of our armed forces begun by President Trump but projecting that might routinely into those disputed waters. Actions, not words, will command Xi’s attention and compel caution.  Resuming appeasement of Iran signals the Biden administration’s unseriousness in dealing with a sworn enemy of the U.S. Iran is a habitual violator of the international “rules-based order” so prized by the establishment. Buying them off didn’t work for Obama and won’t work again. 
Paying tribute to the Iranians spells weakness to Xi and another bad player, Vladimir Putin.  But bluster, symbolism, and servility are what “progressives” trade in. Hard actions, driven by clearly defined national self-interest, aren’t much factored in. 
Speaking of Putin, he recalled Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. last week. Biden, in a softball interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, slammed Putin as a “killer.” 
Biden’s mouthiness can’t entirely be attributed to his senility. Biden, in fitter days, was prone to strut and bully. Yet with Biden’s mind misfiring, his restraint is going, too. Remember Biden’s outburstsduring the elections? About being called a killer, Putin, in a well-aimed jab at Biden, said, “It takes one to know one,” and promptly challenged Biden to a debate. Wiley Vlad is very predatory.  America effectively has no president. It has a cabal running things from the White House. It has a very vindictive, narrowly ideological president-in-training, Kamala Harris, who, when she assumes the presidency well before January 2025 offers no remedies but more trouble. 
Backlashes are building to the folly unfolding at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. This misbegotten administration needs to be hamstrung. The nation’s safety, prosperity, and liberty are on the line.

To give an example, in Italy a specialist doctor receives 60 euro per hour to administer vaccines in the vaccine centers; general practitioners are given incentives for every patient they have vaccinated; a bed in intensive care is paid about 3000 euros per day by the national health service. Even more incomprehensible is not so much the absence of a true and proper social and political reaction, but the inability to see reality in all of its crude evidence. But this is due, as we know, to the scientific action of manipulation of the masses that inevitably led to the phenomenon that social psychology calls “cognitive dissonance,” that is, the tension or discomfort we feel in the face of two opposing and incompatible ideas. The psychologist and sociologist Leon Festinger has demonstrated that this discomfort leads us to elaborate these convictions in three ways, in order to reduce the psychological incongruence that dissonance determines: changing one’s attitude, changing the context, or changing one’s behavior. Ordinary people, unable to comprehend or even recognize any rationality in what the media obsessively says about COVID, accept the absurdity of an influenzal virus presented as being more devastating than ebola, because they do not want to accept that their political leaders are lying shamelessly, with the goal of obtaining the social, economic, moral and religious destruction of a world that someone has decided to cancel. They do not know how to accept that the lie can be passed off as truth, that doctors are not curing and indeed are killing their patients, that civil authorities are not intervening to stop crimes and blatant violations, that politicians are all obeying a faceless lobby, that Bergoglio wants to demolish the Church of Christ to replace it with an infernal Masonic parody. Thus, out of this desire to not accept the deception and thus to not want to take a position against it and against those who promote it, they take refuge in the convenient mainstream narrative, suspending judgment and letting others tell them what to think, even if it is irrational and contradictory. Billions of people have voluntarily made themselves slaves, sacrificial victims to the globalist Moloch, allowing themselves to be persuaded of the inevitability of such a surreal and absurd situation. Or better still: the absurdity of what we see and what is told us seems to give greater strength to the reasons of those who, after two hundred years of revolution in the name of a supposed liberty, accept tyranny as a normal fact and go up to the gallows with the resignation of those who are convinced, after all, that they are guilty in some way.No less dismay is aroused by the behavior of those who, in contempt of any scientific evidence, think they can resolve this crisis by deploring the inefficiency in the distribution of vaccines, or remedy the damages of the lockdown by guaranteeing subsidies to companies and workers. In short, they would like to choose whether to be executed by hanging or the guillotine, without making any objections to the legitimacy of the sentence. And they immediately get upset as soon as anyone formulates objections, accusing them of conspiracy theories or denial, proclaiming that they are in favor of vaccines and giving attestations of loyalty to the dominant ideology. And they do not realize that precisely in allocating subsidies to companies damaged by the lockdown they legitimize the universal income theorized by the Great Reset and that is also strongly desired by the Vatican; they do not realize that there cannot be a vaccine for a mutant virus, and that the antigen that would guarantee immunity from a seasonal flu cannot exist as long as the virus has not been isolated rather than merely sequenced. They remind us of those who, in the Catholic sphere, deplore Bergoglio’s doctrinal and moral drifts, without understanding that they are in perfect coherence with the ideological foundations of the Council. Here too, as we see, rationality is canceled out in order to make room for “cognitive dissonance” and accept the absurd.Man is not a robotThere is, however, an element that the conspirators have not taken into account: human weakness on the one hand, and the power of God on the other. Human weakness will make some of the accomplices in this conspiracy not be completely obedient to the orders they have been given, or they will think that they can gain personal advantage from the pseudo-pandemic by exposing cheating and corruption; some will think first of their own interest, others will impose the obligation of the vaccine on anyone, but they will have some scruples when it comes to vaccinating their own child or their elderly parent; some will fear that pandemic farce may somehow involve them in the scandal, and they will begin to confess and to talk; others will be used and then brutally cast aside, and this will arouse in them the desire for revenge and will lead them to reveal the background of the plan. A little bit at a time, this clay-footed colossus will collapse, inexorably, on its own lies and its own crimes. A salutary warningOn the other hand, there is the power of God. Some of us, at the beginning, believed that the pandemic was real, and, with a supernatural spirit, thought that it was in some way a divine punishment for the grave sins of individuals and nations: they called for acts of reparation and prayers to ask God for the end of the plague. In the face of the evidence that there is no pandemic and that the deaths were deliberately caused to exaggerate the effects on the population, we must consider COVID as a scourge, not in itself, but for all that it has revealed: the plan of Satan for the establishment of the New World Order, which is meant to lead to the reign of the Antichrist. Republicans have been warning about the danger of the influx of migrants at the southern border for years. It’s one of the reasons former President Donald Trump was building a wall. Recent reports indicate they were right to worry.

On March 23, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued a press release letting the public know two undocumented immigrants were arrested at the border. The two had criminal histories that included sexual assault and rape. What’s worse, they were both convicted of carrying out the heinous acts on children.

Although Border Patrol agents caught these violent criminals and prevented them from making their way into society, it’s hard not to think about the ones who slipped through the cracks. How many violent criminals have been able to get past the Border Patrol? Or, how many committed crimes like this in their own countries and are now trying to do the same in the US?

Americans have a right to worry, and the Biden administration needs to step up to keep the country safe.

I suggested that was a tangible way to visualize the magnitude of 100,000 or more illegals crossing what used to be known as a “border” into the interior of our fair land. I followed that first column with a suggestion for routing the buses to the homes of our elected federal officials so they would have an “up close and personal” sense of their representative consequences for the lack of border control along our boundary with Mexico.  We know as well that Democrites* have been pressing to make the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico new states in our federation and to give them each two Senators and appropriate members in the House.  Watching the ongoing news in recent weeks of daily congestion in processing new arrivals across our southern border, and the logistical challenges with doing so, finding new homes for them, and all the other annoying details of the situation, a solution came to me. Why not combine the concepts of new states and open borders into a two-horse parlay?  If they want to make DC and Puerto Rico new states, why not at the same time make Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala new states? It would solve the problem of illegal border crossings, and give Schumer and Pelosi what they have always wanted. And Plugs and Chuckles would no longer have to face tough questions from the rare press person who actually tries to cover the news, and in the process, speak truth to power. What’s not to like? Aren’t Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity the principles guaranteed to us in the Declaration of Independence? At least as taught in the educational institutions of Woke America? Think of it. We would no longer have to assimilate new arrivals into communities far and wide within existing US borders, but could instead ship federal funds and resources to new states to the south so they could become fully vested state territories along with the other 50 now enjoying that stature.  “Dreamers” would not have to hit the road to find their futures. Instead, we would all agree to provide their dream futures where they are. It’s only fair. A writer there who goes by the initials JAF poses several questions and objections regarding my critique (here and here) of the argument that the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits the states from adopting permissive abortion laws. I’m happy to answer them here.

(A) I do not reject the “more than plausible argument … just so that [I] can reserve matters to the individual states.” I reject it because I don’t think it’s right, and the consequence—not (as the question suggests) my motive—is that the matter is for the people of each state to address.

(B) In my judgment, the argument has zero chance of prevailing with the current Court, and if the case for overturning Roe were presented as hinging on it, the prospects of overturning Roe would be much diminished.

2. JAF states that “there’s something strangely tone-deaf about saying a first-order evil such as abortion should be a matter of states’ rights.”

It’s not my position that the matter of abortion “should be a matter of states’ rights.” I would happily support a constitutional amendment that broadly prohibited the states (and the federal government) from allowing abortion.

3. JAF contends that restoring abortion policy to the states “makes short-term strategy opposed to long-term strategy.”

I don’t get the point. Overturning Roe would eliminate the Supreme Court’s lie that abortion is a constitutional right. To be sure, the foreseeable immediate result of restoring abortion policy to the states is that many states would allow abortion. But it will be the challenge for pro-lifers to build the case for pro-life laws throughout the United States and, if possible, ultimately adopt a constitutional amendment. So I see no conflict between short-term strategy and long-term strategy.

I also don’t see how imagining that there might some day be a Supreme Court replete with Justices that would adopt the constitutional-personhood argument qualifies as a strategy. I’d love to hear how such Justices are going to be nominated and confirmed any time in the foreseeable future.

4. JAF complains that originalism “has had 50 years to overturn Roe” and has failed to do so. In the mode of “to a hammer, everything is a nail,” he says that this “is yet another example of the deficiency of positivist legal reasoning.”

For decades, pro-lifers have been working to build a Supreme Court that will overturn Roe. The appointments of Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy, and David Souter were huge setbacks in that effort, but I don’t see how originalism (or “positivist legal reasoning”) can be made to bear the blame for their shortcomings.

Hardly anyone would have imagined thirty years ago that a Republican president would nominate, and a Senate would confirm, someone who is overtly pro-life and who openly embraces originalism. But that’s exactly what happened last fall with President Trump’s appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

For the first time since long before Roe, the Court now has the makings of an originalist majority—four justices (Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett) who identify as public-meaning originalists and a fifth (Alito) who has called himself a “practical originalist”—that, together with the Chief Justice, ought to be ready to inter Roe. Maybe that won’t happen, but what a strange time to declare the failure of originalism.

I followed that first column with a suggestion for routing the buses to the homes of our elected federal officials so they would have an “up close and personal” sense of their representative consequences for the lack of border control along our boundary with Mexico. We know as well that Democrites* have been pressing to make the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico new states in our federation and to give them each two Senators and appropriate members in the House. Watching the ongoing news in recent weeks of daily congestion in processing new arrivals across our southern border, and the logistical challenges with doing so, finding new homes for them, and all the other annoying details of the situation, a solution came to me. Why not combine the concepts of new states and open borders into a two-horse parlay? If they want to make DC and Puerto Rico new states, why not at the same time make Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala new states? It would solve the problem of illegal border crossings, and give Schumer and Pelosi what they have always wanted. And Plugs and Chuckles would no longer have to face tough questions from the rare press person who actually tries to cover the news, and in the process, speak truth to power. What’s not to like? Aren’t Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity the principles guaranteed to us in the Declaration of Independence? At least as taught in the educational institutions of Woke America? Think of it. We would no longer have to assimilate new arrivals into communities far and wide within existing US borders, but could instead ship federal funds and resources to new states to the south so they could become fully vested state territories along with the other 50 now enjoying that stature. “Dreamers” would not have to hit the road to find their futures. Instead, we would all agree to provide their dream futures where they are. It’s only fair. And, as a bonus, the Democrats could enforce gun control regulations on the Cartels, and place heavy excise taxes on the drug shipments, just like we try to do on pot here in the states. *“Democrites” is a combining form of Demo-crats and Hypo-crites.

Cruel and (Very) Unusual: On the banning of Masses in the Vatican Basilica

The recent and bizarre diktat violates both universality and hospitality while ensuring a more jumbled, less reverent atmosphere at the altars.

A week after a bizarre instruction banning early morning Masses at the side altars of the Papal Archbasilica of St. Peter in the Vatican was released (and subsequently posted on the door of the basilica’s sacristy), questions about the origins of this ukase, its irregularities of form, its curious recipients, its legality, and its intention remain – despite numerous inquiries to the Vatican Press Office and to the First Section of the Vatican Secretariat of State, on whose letterhead the decree was printed.

That silence suggests that the press office was blindsided by this summary action, and that there was no consultation about this matter with the relevant bodies in the Roman Curia, including the Congregation for Divine Worship. It also suggests that many who recognized that this unprecedented and abrupt action was unwarranted (not to mention illegal according to Canon Law) were afraid to protest the decree, even privately. Those knowledgeable about the present tremulous atmosphere inside the Vatican will likely draw the appropriate conclusion regarding the provenance and nature of this authoritarian diktat. 

For over thirty years, I have found early morning Mass at one of the side altars of St. Peter’s one of the joys of Roman life. Whether I was simply assisting a priest friend celebrating the Mass at my request, or participating at Mass with a small group of friends or family, the experience was always prayerful and always reverent. Moreover, early morning Mass at St. Peter’s was a profound experience of the universality of the Church as the sacramentally constituted Mystical Body of Christ. For at the other side altars the Holy Sacrifice was being offered in many other languages, with pilgrims from all over the world.

Just as impressively, the basilica was a genuine house of prayer in those hours between 7 and 9 a.m. This was in sharpest contrast to the bustling, often chaotic, museum-like atmosphere in St. Peter’s from the time early morning Masses were completed until the basilica closed for the evening. I begrudge no one their admiration for Bramante’s original design of “New St. Peter’s,” or for Michelangelo’s genius in altering Bramante’s plans by including a much larger dome, or for the beauty of Bernini’s masterful decorative scheme, which took fifty-seven years to complete. Yet during tourist hours, St. Peter’s is just that—a tourist site—full of chatter and iPhone cameras, despite the quiet serenity of its Blessed Sacrament Chapel. There is no decorum; the only time of decorum I ever experienced in Catholicism’s most recognizable space was when those early morning Masses were being celebrated at the basilica’s 45 side altars and 11 chapels.

That quiet and reflective period was also a time of hospitality—like decorum, another rare commodity in the great basilicas of Rome, many of whose custodians are not the most hospitable. Yet in St. Peter’s at 7 or 7:30 a.m., the sacristy staff could not have been more gracious in welcoming priests who hailed from many countries. In my experience of waiting for my priest-friends to vest, things were orderly in the sacristy and the young altar boys who accompanied the celebrant (and his group, if he had one) to one or another of the side altars were efficient and well-behaved.

Thus the claim of the March 12 decree, that it was being issued to foster a more prayerful and decorous atmosphere in the basilica, is nonsense. By dictating that virtually all early morning Masses be concelebrated, and by virtually guaranteeing that those concelebrations will be in Italian, the diktatviolates both universality and hospitality while ensuring a more jumbled, less reverent atmosphere at the altars where these Masses will be celebrated—not least under pandemic conditions of social-distancing and so forth.

And why the de facto restriction to one language, which is not the universal language of the Church? What kind of welcome does that represent to the 99.2% of the world’s population for whom Italian is not a first language? I am perfectly capable of participating in the Mass in Italian, and I do so regularly and happily when I attend Mass in other Roman churches. But why is Italian being imposed on the entire world Church if it wishes to participate in Mass in St. Peter’s early in the morning?

The form of the March 12th decree was so odd as to raise immediate questions about its authenticity. It was not signed, but only initialed by Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, the head of the Secretariat of State’s First Section. But why was this diktat issued by the First Section (the Section for “Ordinary Affairs”) of the Segretario di Stato, which has no competence over liturgical celebrations in St. Peter’s – or anywhere else for that matter? (One wag started speculating about “Deep Stato;” be that as it may, a decree of this sort coming from the First Section was entirely irregular.) Will the First Section will now pass judgment on indulgences? Or liturgical vestments? Or anything else on which it is told to pronounce?

The fact that the decree carried no protocol number, considered essential in any official and authorized communication, was also puzzling. Did this simply represent incompetence in the First Section (not unknown these days, by many accounts)? Or did it suggest that the decree was a fake? No one believes that now. But in any case an official document from the Secretariat of State without a protocol number was entirely irregular.

The addressees of the decree were also mysterious, suggesting again that this was an arbitrary decision, not very well thought through. The new Archpriest of St. Peter’s, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, O.F.M.Conv., was not on the list of those to whom the diktat was issued. Why not? Why did the list of addressees include the head of the Commissariat for the Fabric of St. Peter’s (typically occupied with maintenance and repairs), the basilica’s Chapter of Canons (a largely ceremonial body), and the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Basilica (which makes some sense, at least), but not the responsible party, the Archpriest?

Moreover, the decree misused technical language—another indication of a First Section in shambles, perhaps, but one that certainly raised eyebrows and questions. In limiting celebrations of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass to one place in the basilica, the small Clementine Chapel in the Vatican grottoes, the ukase used the term rito straordinario [extraordinary rite], which is not only wrong but contradicts Pope Benedict XVI’s insistence that there is only one Roman Rite, which has two “forms” – Ordinary and Extraordinary.

Limiting the celebration of the Extraordinary Form to a small number of time slots in a small underground chapel also effectively ghettoizes those who believe that they pray better in that way; and while I do not count myself among their number, I cannot see why their preference should be treated as if it were some sort of contagious disease. The decree also referred to a lector and a cantor “animating” the permitted concelebrations, which is, to put it gently, a curious formulation, suggesting as it does that a Mass celebrated without a lector or cantor is somehow “unanimated.” This weird usage also violates the teaching of Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, which at #7 insists that it is Christ himself who enlivens the Church’s worship.

The decree also seemed to run roughshod over Church law (not necessarily an innovation in a pontificate whose agreement with the People’s Republic of China on the appointment of bishops violates Canon 377.5 of the Code of Canon law). By imposing concelebration as the norm in the basilica early in the morning, the decree would seem to violate at least the spirit of Canon 902, which affirms that every priest is “fully entitled to celebrate the Eucharist individually.” Then there is the restriction on the use of the Extraordinary Form to “authorized priests,” which violates the provisions of Benedict XVI’s 2007 Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum, which grants permission to use the Extraordinary Rite to every priest.

The usual defenders of the present pontificate tried to mount the usual defenses, suggesting that this was an effort to promote the “spirit of the liturgical renewal introduced by the Second Vatican Council” (as Gerard O’Connell put it in America). One does wonder when these people will cease speaking of some amorphous conciliar “spirit” as an all-purpose justification for anything they wish to justify. Still, how does one square a ban on individual and small-group Masses at the side altars of St. Peter’s with the papal “populism” so celebrated by those same defenders? There was nothing populist about this ukase—a term I use deliberately, as what was done on March 12th more resembled the diktat of an autocratic Russian czar than the carefully pondered decision of a “synodal” Church.

But perhaps, these days, some of the people of the Church are less equal than others, rather like in the latter pages of Orwell’s Animal Farm.

As for Vatican II, this decision to ghettoize the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in the Clementine Chapel will only harden the conviction of some that the council’s liturgical renewal was not just poorly implemented but was in fact a terrible mistake. I do not share that view at all. But I can readily imagine what some will make of this latest effort to impose on the Church a form of the Holy Mass in which some find it difficult to pray.

Bishops, priests, and lay Catholics who have benefited spiritually from early morning Mass at the side altars of St. Peter’s should make their distress at this cruel and very unusual decree known to the Holy Father, either directly by letter to him or by writing their local Nuncio or Apostolic Delegate. It might also be helpful if those curial cardinals I have seen regularly celebrating early morning Mass in St. Peter’s, often with the assistance of an altar boy only, would make their unhappiness known to Pope Francis. As those cardinals include men close to the Pope, like papal almoner Konrad Krajewski, that might make some difference.

As of March 22nd, when this ukase goes into effect, St. Peter’s will be much less a house of prayer than it used to be. That is a great sadness, especially at a time when the Church and the world badly need the power of the Eucharist and the witness of intense Eucharistic piety.

Media Reveals Truth About Joe Biden’s Border Crisis

(ReliableNews.org) – Migrant children have been pouring across the US border for weeks. The Biden administration continues denying the existence of a crisis. MSNBC host and former GOP congressman Joe Scarborough blew a fuse and dropped a truth bomb on Joe Biden for his failed border policy.

Everything started peacefully enough with Scarborough playing a clip of the White House press secretary pushing back on a reporter asking her about the mounting crisis involving migrant children at the nation’s southern border.

Scarborough responded that the United States would have a “crisis at the border” as long as the Biden administration maintained a “permissive immigration policy.” Parents of Migrant children got the message to send their unaccompanied children on the dangerous trek to the border, and they will be allowed to cross to safety.

His co-host interrupted him, saying the administration had corrected its message to migrants. However, Scarborough wasn’t having any of it. “No, they’re not!” he replied. They aren’t saying that they won’t continue letting unaccompanied children into the United States.

As Scarborough pointed out, the crisis erupted at the border after Biden dismantled as many of Donald Trump’s enforcement policies as he could. End of story.
