Dearest Ann,
Now that the COVID vaccines have been in use for nearly 6 weeks, I thought I would check in & let you know what I’ve seen and heard.
As you & your readers know, the only two vaccines for COVID on the market (Pfizer & Moderna) utilize the new mRNA technology. Both “jabs” are being administered only under Emergency Use Authorization, not full FDA approval. One can make the argument that these shots are truly experimental. Zero long term studies have been conducted; therefore, no healthcare provider can tell you these are safe because we just don’t know. There’s lots of speculation, though, about effects on fertility as well as the potential for ADE (antibody-dependent enhancement). I cannot speak definitively about those things but what I can report is the side effects I’ve already seen.
Your readers have probably read media reports about the Miami OB/GYN who bled to death after his platelet count dropped precipitously following his first Pfizer vaccine dose. I can report that my colleagues across the country have seen similar scenarios (not necessarily ending in death). Numerous professional acquaintances have reported reduced platelet counts & enlarged spleens secondary to this vaccine, most likely related to a preservative, PEG (polyethylene glycol) present in both the Moderna and Pfizer shots. I predict we will see more of these sorts of reactions as the number of vaccinations increases (as well as anaphylaxis).
The people I personally work with have reported the following: profuse diarrhea, vertigo, facial numbness, facial nerve pain, arm pain, reduced mobility in the arm, extreme fatigue bordering on exhaustion, muscle aches, fever (some as high as 102 & 103 degrees), hives at the injection site (curiously this seems to be a delayed reaction occurring 8 days post-vaccination). I have one coworker whose vomiting was so severe she required hospitalization with IV fluid administration. Another colleague developed atrial fibrillation, and this is not the only incident of that that I have heard of. Several colleagues throughout the U.S have reported cardiac arrhythmias after the vaccine. A family member who is an RN in another city told me 75% of the people she knows who received the Moderna vaccine were very sick the next day and most of them could not work.
Of course, these are anecdotal reports but keep in mind these vaccines have only been in use for 6 weeks so anecdotal reports are all we have. The VAERS website (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is also a source of information your readers can use. It, too, is anecdotal because it’s a self-reporting tool for patients as well as healthcare providers to report adverse events following vaccine administration. I’ve seen social media trolls trying to discourage people from visiting the VAERS website because it’s a self-reporting website. But remember, it is maintained by both the CDC and FDA to track adverse vaccine-related events. Read thru it and decide for yourself. Thus far, VAERS shows 181 deaths following COVID vaccination and nearly 8,000 occurrences of side effects severe enough to limit one’s activities of daily living.
Vaccine recipients (many of whom are healthcare providers themselves) are being told these side effects are “good” and show “that the immune system is working in response to the shot”. Can we please have some logic? I’ve learned in life that if something defies common sense, almost without exception its rubbish. Vomiting is not good…it’s a defense mechanism, the body’s way of rejecting something. Vomiting in response to this vaccine should not be chalked up to “good” and a positive sign. What stunning buffoonery on the part of those believing this lie! I’m sad to see how far we’ve fallen; the gaslighting of anyone who dares question this narrative is very real.
I don’t want to speculate or put out wild conspiracy theories, but yesterday I received an email from my employer that went out to all patient care providers in our health system. The email detailed an entire set of guidelines and protocols that have been developed to rapidly identify, triage, and treat people who may be suffering an allergic reaction to either of the COVID vaccines. If reactions are as rare as we are being told, then why is this necessary? If the allergic reactions are typical of other medication allergic reactions, why does a different set of standards exist? All things to make you wonder
Regarding the ADE I mentioned earlier – the antibody dependent enhancement; Many scientists (almost all have been silenced & deplatformed) speculate that this vaccine will cause an enhanced response to the virus, meaning the antibodies produced will respond in a life-threatening manner when one is exposed to the virus in the wild. I have no idea if that will actually happen, but it has played out in all animal studies involving coronavirus vaccines so it is reasonable to fear such a thing in human vaccine recipients. I pray that it never comes to fruition because the consequences will be like the worst medical sci-fi horror one can imagine. Curiously, though, I read an article earlier this week that Merck has abandoned its attempts at producing a vaccine for COVID and instead will focus on “research into therapeutic drugs labeled as MK-7110 and MK-4482. The drugs aim to protect patients from the damage of an overactive immune response to the virus.” Really??? Is Merck playing 4D chess with its competitors who might be the cause of such hyper-immune responses, or is this a ploy to benefit Big Pharma on all sides, meaning one sells you the vaccine and the other one sells you the antidote? I don’t know and one can only speculate but it sure seems interesting.
I myself am avoiding this vaccine & I advise others to do the same. Sadly, several of my family members have chosen otherwise. Please pray for them and be assured of my prayers for you.

First, there is a plethora of people who speak out of both sides of their mouths: on one side they seem to admit that Francis is Pope by the fact that he must be removed by some magic process that determines he is a heretic; out of the other side comes at least the possibility that Benedict is the true Pope. Well, it’s time to make up one’s mind and not sitting on a fence with one foot in one guy’s yard and the other one in another guy’s yard, claiming, as it were, both to be his property. But in the case of Benedict and Francis it all depends on that which seems more credible to the guy sitting the fence, he takes the side of Benedict when those who say he is Pope appear accurate and the other side when those who argue that Bergoglio must be gotten rid of gives a better impression. But many times he takes both sides simultaneously!
Furthermore, if one is determined to hold that Francis is not Pope because Benedict is Pope, then there’s no sense in discussing any effort to get rid of him, since it is impossible to declare that a Pope has lost the Petrine Office, through heresy or whatever, when he isn’t even Pope, right from the beginning. Nor is there any reason to argue for an examination of the Conclave fiasco that “elected” him. So why not take one side or the other?
Secondly, as I have argued in various places, one CANNOT look to the past for a solution to the totally unprecedented situation we have today, a situation which has not only been prophesied by Our Lady (Fatima and Akita) but also the solution has been given and the consequences have been provided—the consequences following upon the non-fulfillment of the given solutions!!!!!!!!!!!! The only solution for today is one that Almighty God has chosen, as revealed in the Fatima apparition, and our mind MUST conform to the reality that God provides, not something from the past, by doing which in fact indicates that people consider their solutions are better than God’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thirdly, here’s another clue that might, just might, help people to decide about who is truly Pope and what do to about it. This comes from the Treatise I wrote on the Renunciation of Benedict:
At this point it would be well to provide a little known hint about the contents of the Third Secret of Fatima. This comes from one Father Schweigl, “an Austrian Jesuit (1894-1964), professor at the Gregorian University and the Russicum [Seminary].”17 A very spiritual priest and concerned about the Russian situation at the time, he was much occupied by the Fatima Message and especially anxious for the Consecration of Russia.
On 7 July 1952 Pope Pius XII, with due solemnity lacking and without the accompaniment of all the Bishops of the world, consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This Consecration was quite a disappointment for Fr. Schweigl; there seemed to be some confusion as to why the Holy Father did not comply with the requests of Our Lady.
However, Fr. Schweigl, at the time of that Consecration, was laying plans to pay a visit to Sr. Lucia. By some arrangement, whether of his own initiative or with the prompting of Pius XII is not clear, “on March 27 1952, he had received permission from Pius XII to speak with Sister Lucy of Fatima «about 31 questions concerning the conversion of Russia.»”18 The interrogation actually took place on 2 September 1952.
Regarding those “31 questions concerning the conversion of Russia,” Fr. Schweigl admits in a text he had distributed to the [Vatican II] Council Fathers that subsequent to his visit with Sr. Lucia he was ordered by the Archbishop of Coimbra “that the replies given by Sister Lucy not be published without authorization of the Holy Office; up to the present this authorization has not been given.”19 Nevertheless, although he was unable to divulge the contents of the answers to his questions, having returned to the Russicum after his visit with Sr. Lucia, “Father Schweigl confided this to one of his colleagues who questioned him on the Secret: “«I cannot reveal anything of what I learned at Fatima concerning the third Secret, but I can say that it has two parts: one concerns the Pope. The other, logically – although I must say nothing – would have to be the continuation of the words: In Portugal the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved. »”20
Getting to the point of the little known hint about the Third Secret, Frére Michel states that “Father Schweigl, [who] was perfectly well informed about everything having to do with the consecration of Russia, stresses that the great Secret ‘seems to suppose a victorious,triumphant, but difficult and heroic decision’ of the Holy Father.’ He continues, ‘In fact on July7, 1952, the Holy Father Consecrated the peoples of Russia in a special way to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, although many circles were against the opportuneness of such a consecration’ (Fatima e la conversione della Russia, p. 15. Pontificio Collegio Russico, 1956.)”21
This quote concerning an implied action of a Pope in the Third Secret is most interesting. Now although Fr. Schweigl spoke of the suggested action as possibly having to do with the Consecration of Russia by Pope Pius XII on 7 July 1952, it certainly must be questioned whether that Consecration was truly a “victorious, triumphant . . . and heroic” decision of Pope Pius XII. Certainly, there have been no obvious “victorious” and “triumphant” effects, from that Consecration, though it perhaps could be said to have been, in a sense, “heroic” due to political circumstances of the time. And I doubt that anyone would be able to identify any Papal deed as “victorious, triumphant, and heroic” from Pius XII until Benedict’s act of renunciation.
Furthermore, it would be absolutely ridiculous to suggest that the Consecration of Russia as requested by Our Lady, which hasn’t been done to this day, is going to be made by this current Pontificate–Francis. Indeed, the chances, barring some type of Divine intervention, of electing a traditional or even conservative Pope at a Conclave following the death of Francis is just too much to expect from God. Not that He is unable, being Almighty, to provide in such a way. But, given that His Providence could be said to have already begun arranging matters, it cannot be expected that He would deviate from what He has already begun—of course, I refer to another individual in the Vatican calling himself Pope.
Finally, what if Benedict’s renunciation affected only a resignation from the “exercise” of the Petrine Office, as the wording of his resignation infer, amidst perhaps even threats to resign from the Office, Benedict’s “fear of fleeing the wolves,” and an “apostasy that begins AT THE TOP?” By resigning from the “exercise” of the Petrine Office while keeping that Office out of the hands of one not worthy to be Pope, could it truly be denied that his “decision” was in fact“ victorious, triumphant, but difficult and heroic?” His action would have to be regarded as a fearless challenge to the St. Gallen Mafia and a way of providing for a proper Consecration of Russia either by himself or by his successor, the next true Pope. I encourage the reader to keep this idea in mind as we now progress to the analysis of Benedict’s Renunciation.

One last comment. Since the prophesied solutions from Our Lord and Our Lady have not been heeded, the ONLY things that can be expected are the very consequences that They have warned us about. Frontline Doctors: Experimental vaccines are ‘not safer’ than COVID-19

January 29, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — In an extraordinary recent presentation exposing “the serious and life-threatening disinformation campaign” being waged against the American people and the world, Dr. Simone Gold of the American Frontline Doctors (AFLD) laid out the facts on the Wuhan Virus, safe highly-effective treatments, and particularly what she calls “experimental biological agents,” otherwise referred to as the COVID-19 vaccines.
Dr. Gold referred listeners to two AFLD websites where they can access a white paper produced by the AFLD physicians that provides thorough explanations and references for her presentation. Gold concluded her presentation with a passionate appeal for everyone to sign and spread a petition against authoritarian movements aimed at coercingindividuals into receiving these injections.
The group’s white paper brings an array of crucial information together and is clear, accessible and well-documented. It reflects not only a depth of competence and great facility on the topics but a resolute commitment to truth and a deep fidelity to the noble mission of providing sound medical care for patients while defending the common good at large.
Highlights of the paper and Dr. Gold’s presentation include the following:
Correct language is ‘critical’: Not COVID-19 ‘vaccines,’ but experimental biological agents
Dr. Gold insists that even the designation of the new products as vaccines is inapprorpriate.
“Definitely you should not be calling this the ‘COVID-19 vaccines,’” she says. “The reason is, whatever you call it, it’s experimental. It’s not been approved as a vaccine. It’s currently in its investigational stage.”
The initial FAQ of the white paper explains, “According to the Food and Drug Administration, ‘An investigational drug can also be called an experimental drug and is being studied to see if your disease or medical condition improves while taking it.’ Pfizer and Moderna and AstraZeneca applications properly identify their new agents as ‘investigational,’ which is normal at this very early stage of development.”SUBSCRIBEto LifeSite’s daily headlinesSUBSCRIBEU.S. Canada World Catholic
The paper goes on to confirm that this experimental status means that “adverse events will be settled under the legal standard for experimental medications.”
As part of this experimental status, Dr. Gold explained, “If you take the vaccine, you’re being enrolled in a pharmocol vigilance tracking system. It means you have enrolled yourself in a medical trial … most people are not aware that that’s what they’re doing. This pharmocol vigilance tracking system tracks you for (at least) two years, it’s set up by the Department of Defense, it was handed off to Oracle and Google to put the data together. How is it that people want to sign up for this system on an experimental (biological agent)?” she asked.
Thus, the founder of AFLD affirmed these injected treatments are “most properly called experimental biological agents. … We need to call this by its proper name. Never talk about this without the word ‘experimental.’ That’s critical,” she said.
‘Wuhan Virus’ to ‘COVID-19’
In the presentation, Dr. Gold called the massive “disinformation campaign” on these topics “a crime against humanity” and stated, “You must understand the magnitude of the lie in order to understand what they are trying to tell you about these experimental vaccines.”
As the paper observed, “from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic,” there has been “massive disinformation” beginning with its very name.
Initially, and naturally, the pandemic was referred to as the “Wuhan Virus” since “epidemics have historically been named for the location from where they arise or are associated. Consider: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Spanish Flu, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Lyme Disease,” they wrote.

Greatest disinformation: Hydroxychloroquine
The paper documented in some depth the “(m)ost notable” disinformation regarding the pandemic, which “was selling the lie to the American and European people that hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an unsafe medication.” They detailed how the lie was advanced by “Scientists,” the “Media & The Elite,” “Big Tech Censorship,” and with “Government Punishment of Doctors.”
As HCQ is “considered one of the safest medications in the world, safer than Motrin or Tylenol,” it has been broadly used outside the west with great success. For example, in response to the virus, both China and India mandated or recommended HCQ for its population early last year, and at least India, “continues to enjoy a death rate a fraction (~10 percent) of the USA even in the most densely populated slums.”
“So in America the death rates are in the 800 range per million,” Dr. Gold explained. “In Africa, Sub-Sahara Africa, the poorest places in the world, no social distancing, no mask, no ICU’s, they have a death rate of one percent the western nations. One percent!”
“Now I believe it is due to widely available HCQ. I don’t think you can explain it for any other reason,” she said.
The paper provided thorough documentation on how “(c)ountries where HCQ is widely available, which are typically third world countries that have malaria or citizens who travel to malaria-endemic regions, have 1-10 percent of the death rates of first world nations where HCQ is severely restricted.”
Extremely high survival rate / low infection fatality rate for Wuhan Virus
“The most enduring myth regarding COVID-19,” the doctors wrote, “is that this is a highly lethal infection. It is not. The data is unequivocal:
COVID-19 kills very rarely and is mostly limited to the medically fragile,
COVID-19 is less deadly than influenza in children,
COVID-19 is similar lethality in the middle adult years and treatable.”
They went on to cite the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) own “best estimate” to demonstrate that the infection fatality rate (IFR) is overall very low:
0-19 years old: 0.00003 (99.997 percent survival rate)
20-49 years old: 0.0002 (99.98 percent survival rate)
50-69 years old: 0.005 (99.5 percent survival rate)
70+ years old: 0.054 (94.6 percent survival rate)
Further, in the presentation, Dr. Gold emphasized that these very high survival rates reflect cases where people have not received treatment with HCQ, or another “miracle” drug, ivermectin, and thus with such simple, inexpensive treatments, they would be much higher still. Gold referenced the testimony of doctors before a U.S. Senate committee in November who said if such treatments had been available, very high numbers of lives could have been saved.
In the paper, the doctors observed, “It is quite clear that young people are at a statistically insignificant risk of death from COVID-19,” and for most people under 65, “the risk of dying from COVID-19 isn’t much higher than from getting in a car accident driving to work.”
Safety concerns for experimental vaccines
In contrast to the utilization of safe treatments like HCQ and ivermectin, there are many significant safety concerns with these experimental vaccines.
Brand new mRNA technology
First, what the doctors call the “largest experimental medication program in our history” uses a brand-new technology utilizing messenger RNA. “No vaccine” based on this technology “has ever been approved for any disease, or even entered final-stage trials until now, so there’s no peer-reviewed published human data to compare how mRNA stacks up against older technologies,” AFLD said.
No independently published animal studies
Further, previous coronavirus vaccines developed over decades have consistently failed in animal trials with the death of their subjects. Yet, these experimental vaccines have no independently published animal studies.
“Vaccine safety requires proper animal trials and peer-reviewed data,” the paper stated, “neither of which has occurred” with these experimental biological agents.
Recipient may become more vulnerable to virus
The AFLD White Paper stated that one of the greatest safety concerns relates to how “(p)rior coronavirus (and other respiratory) vaccines have failed due to the scientific phenomena known as pathogenic priming that makes the vaccine recipient more likely to suffer a sudden fatal outcome due to massive cytokine storm when exposed to the wild virus.”
Of note, current reports revealed that hundreds of individuals injected with COVID-19 experimental vaccines have been admitted to the hospital, and the shots have so far been linked to at least 181 deaths in the United States.
Neurological diseases, long-term effects
The paper listed many other possible complications, including neurological diseases, and cited from the “extremely limited COVID-19 vaccine data” instances of them already occurring.
There is also no data on sub-categories of the population, including the elderly, women who desire to get pregnant, those who have had the Wuhan Virus already, and since these experimental agents are brand new, “we cannot know any long-term effects.”
Infertility
In addition, these chemicals may impact a woman’s fertility. The paper explained that the “mechanism of action of the experimental mRNA vaccines includes a possible auto-immune rejection of the placenta. In layman’s terms, the vaccine may permanently interfere with a woman’s ability to maintain a pregnancy.”
“The vaccine companies themselves acknowledge the possibility of ill effects on a pregnancy on the vaccine bottle, which says the following: ‘it is unknown whether COVID-19 mRNA VaccineBNT162b2 has an impact on fertility,’” the doctors wrote.
Dr. Gold emphasized, “I would never let a woman of child-bearing age take this. I would fight tooth and nail (to prevent it), under no circumstances, until this placenta question is answered.”
Manufactures have no liability
Of great concern as well is the fact that the companies that produce these experimental biological agents “are immune from all liability” due to the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act. Therefore, those who are injured or even the families of those who sufferdeath due to these injections will have no claim on the manufacturers themselves.
Experimental vaccines are ‘not safer’ than the Wuhan Virus
AFLD then drew from common sense to conclude that taking an experimental vaccine “is not safer” than a very low IFR for the Wuhan Virus. Besides the “extraordinarily low” mortality rates, doctors are “getting better and better at treating COVID-19: the death rate in terms of population continues to fall, hospital stays for COVID-19 get shorter and hospital mortality from COVID-19 plummets.”
While not directly asserting that the experimental vaccines are unsafe, AFLD clarified that “We are saying that by definition it is unsafe to widely distribute an experimental vaccine, because taking a vaccine is completely different than taking an ordinary medication.”
“In contrast to taking a medication for an actual disease,” they explained, “the person who takes a vaccine is typically completely healthy and would continue to be healthy without the vaccine. As the first rule of the Hippocratic Oath is: do no harm, vaccine safety must be guaranteed. That has not yet happened.”
No proof that the experimental vaccines stop transmission of the virus
The doctors highlighted that there is no data on whether or not these experimental agents are actually capable of stopping the transmission of the virus. They affirmed that the “scientists are very upfront about the fact that they don’t know if the vaccine even stops the spread of the virus!”
They cited a Medscapearticle that quotes a former FDA official who said, “(w)e don’t know if people can become infected and thus also transmit even with vaccination.” For this reason, “people can expect to still be wearing masks, still be asked to follow non-pharmaceutical public health measures that we’ve all come to know so well.”
In dismay, Dr. Gold explained this point in her presentation, saying, “What is super shocking is that there is no proof that this biological agent actually stops the transmission among people. It’s like a joke, this is like the punch line to a joke, ‘let’s take a vaccine, and by the way it doesn’t actually stop transmission.’ I mean, I don’t even know what to say to that!”
Based on the IFR by age, along with real potential dangers, AFLD came up with recommendations for who should not submit themselves to these experimental biological agents and who may have an option to.
In summary, they stated, that such injections are “Prohibited for the young, Discouraged for the healthy middle-aged and Optional for the co-morbid and elderly.”
Dr. Gold commented, “If you are under age 20, the experimental vaccine is prohibited, in our opinion, absolutely prohibited. We simply don’t know enough about its effects on fertility, and we do know that this virus, essentially does not affect young people. Essentially,” with regards to young people, COVID-19 is “irrelevant!”
“From age 20 to 50, if you are healthy, we strongly discourage,” your receiving this experimental agent, she said. “There is an exceedingly low risk,” as well.
In their white paper, the AFLD summarized their advice to different sections of the population regarding the vaccines.
a. 0-20: prohibited(exceedingly low risk from COVID, unknown risk of auto-immune disease, unknown risk of pathogenic priming, risk of lifelong infertility)
b. 20-50 healthy: strongly discouraged (exceedingly low risk from COVID, unknown risk of auto-immune disease, unknown risk of pathogenic priming, risk of lifelong infertility)

They also promised to do everything they can to assist injured plaintiffs who sue pharmaceutical companies, private businesses or government agencies who mandate or coerce “persons to comply with unethical policies for which there is substantial evidence of likely harm.”

In response to projected vaccine mandates, Dr. Gold announced, “We intend to fight the urge that’s sweeping the globe to mandate people taking an experimental biological agent.”
AFLD is not primarily concerned with the government, but with private businesses mandating these injections, particularly schools and airlines.
“We intend to talk to the decision-makers in the airline industry,” she said. “One of our tools in that battle will be to go in armed with at least, at least, one million signatures of human beings who are going to say ‘no, we are not going to do business with anybody, and we are not going to fly with anyone who is going to mandate (experimental vaccines).’”

Gold also encouraged those who are in a union to build advocacy against these injections within their union.

It is amazing the difference that four years can make in environmental policy. On January 24, 2017, at the outset of his presidency, Donald Trump issued an executive order that salvaged the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) from the Obama administration’s planned obstructionism. Obama had sought to upset the string of administrative approvals that the project obtained at both the federal and state levels. DAPL runs about 1,100 miles from the Bakken and Three Forks oil fields in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois, where it is able to carry, far below ground, about 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Trump’s action allowed Congress to vote on whether to grant the last federal easement needed for the pipeline to proceed. DAPL is now in service, even as litigation to shut it down continues. Environmental groups continue to allege attenuated theories of adverse effects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Their efforts are consistent with the common practice among environmentalists of paying inordinate attention to highly remote contingencies while completely ignoring the large and immediate safety and efficiency advantages of getting crude oil to both domestic and foreign markets via DAPL. More concretely, the chances that any crude oil shipped by DAPL will escape in sufficient quantities to damage the fishing or water rights of the Standing Rock Sioux have always been infinitesimal, which is why the pipeline operations have caused no such harm for the past three years. The overall soundness of the pipeline grid will become truly dire if DAPL is shut down while Keystone is left incomplete. For the moment, however, the immediate threat is to the Keystone pipeline. On January 20, President Biden issued an executive order aimed at “Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis.” One component of his major order was to revoke the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline started some twelve years ago, but since that time it has been beset with legal challenges, including one in May 2020 in which a Montana judge yanked the pipeline’s permit on the grounds that the Army Corps of Engineers had not consulted sufficiently with the US Fish and Wildlife Service on the alleged risks that the pipeline posed to endangered species and their habitat. Such orders overlook the benefits from that pipeline, which include its ability to ship up to 830,000 barrels per day of crude oil from the Alberta sands to American refineries along the Gulf Coast. Completing the pipeline would substitute the risky transport of oil by railroads and trucks for the safe transport by pipeline. Most environmental harm from the construction of the partially complete pipeline has already occurred, and the stranded costs from its incomplete construction will never be recovered if this cancellation sticks. The TC Energy Corporation, the pipeline’s Canadian owner, has proposed to use only renewable energy sources and union labor in a vain effort to stave off the revoking of the permit. But the Biden administration has paid this proposal no heed. Pipeline supporters have rightly lauded the tax revenues it would have generated and the skilled labor it would have employed. While jobs and taxes are in themselves costs rather than benefits, here they are costs well worth bearing, as they generate a capital asset whose value far exceeds labor and capital input costs. Biden’s pipeline decision has clearly antagonized his strong labor base, and may well have prompted his dubious (and unprecedented) decision to fire Peter Robb, the general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), before the expiration of his term this coming November. It is a dangerous precedent to fire a key official at an independent agency for political gain within hours of assuming power. Notably, Donald Trump did not use that same questionable tactic against Richard Griffin Jr., Obama’s highly partisan NLRB general counsel. The consequences of Biden’s decision to cancel the permit are far-reaching. The cancellation has already soured relationships with Canada, which will bear the short-term costs of the stranded pipeline and be left bringing Alberta crude oil to market through costlier and riskier pathways. In addition, the increased supplies of oil through Keystone XL would have reduced oil prices in the world markets and made it easier to find the energy for the vulnerable New England states, which will have to continue to heavily rely on imported oil and gas to meet their energy needs. The ability to more effectively sell American and Canadian petroleum products worldwide would also have had powerful geopolitical implications, reducing the ability of Russia and the OPEC nations to control supply and to use that economic power to dictate the course of political events. Biden constantly claims that his response to the climate “crisis” is driven exclusively by science, but he offers no evidence to support his view that we are in a global crisis, for which shutting down the Keystone Pipeline is part of the solution. That overwrought claim requires rigorous justification, for it is part of his effort to switch to unreliable wind and solar energy by making it ever more difficult to ship fossil fuels to refineries and consumers. Rather than make a serious analysis of the pros and cons of shutting the pipeline down, Biden simply asserts the necessity of doing so without pointing out any particular danger he seeks to avert. He offers no evidence to explain why “climate-related costs [are] increasing over the last four years.” It is not enough to point to increased levels of burning in California, as those forest fires are attributable to government policies that have abandoned sensible fire-protection protocols, such as allowing deadwood to accumulate as kindling and the construction of residential homes in high-risk areas. Yet Biden makes the common mistake of thinking that all climate changes over the past four years are attributable to overall levels of carbon dioxide, without once looking at any of the evidence pointing to global stability in this area.Consider a recent study published in a scientific journal affiliated with Nature whose abstract begins as follows: “The Antarctic continent has not warmed in the last seven decades, despite a monotonic increase in the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases.” That finding should quiet the environmentalists who lament whenever a large iceberg breaks off of the Antarctic. And given rapidly improving efficiency levels in fracking and oil transmission, it is irresponsible to invoke crisis talk when impressive technological advances will do far more to make the earth safer from various kinds of environmental threats than Biden’s morose decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline. Why introduce major shifts in domestic policy when the US Energy Information Administration reports that between 2005 and 2019, “total US electricity generation increased by almost 2 percent while related CO2 emissions fell by 33 percent”? The Biden administration is equally overconfident on the question of means. Recently, a White House spokesperson stated that Biden wants to build infrastructure with good-paying union jobs in order to boost the economy, concluding happily that “he knows how to do that.It’s with the plan he ran on.” The Biden plan appears to adopt, on a national level, the so-called innovations on energy and global warming that California has developed, which are aimed at removing all carbon-emitting energy sources by the year 2045. Sadly, the California program has proved to be a disaster. The obvious objection to wind and solar energy is that there currently are not sufficient battery capabilities to support those energy modalities when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow. But the difficulties go even deeper. Today, California’s electric grid is in “near collapse,” with rolling blackouts now a regular part of the current system. Unfortunately, policymakers there preferred finding ways to curtail energy consumption levels rather than increasing supply by adding back needed fossil fuels into the energy base. Governor Gavin Newsom’s solution is to tweet to his trapped citizens that they should turn off the lights, power down major appliances, and set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher. The situation in California is not unique. Germany, which once had a reliable grid system, is also now teetering on the edge of energy dysfunction as a result of naive policies based on the belief that wind and solar sources could be implemented and managed at low cost. The result is, pardon the pun, a carbon copy of what has happened in California—the highest electricity prices in the world coupled with the risk of power blackouts. Joe Biden miscasts himself as a man of science. He and his vaunted energy team refuse to address the manifold objections to his program. Progressives like Biden think prices are a bad way to allocate scarce resources. This foolishness promises to inaugurate a regime of massive energy instability and political conflict throughout the country. Any day of the week, I would take Trump’s inexcusable histrionics but sensible policies over Joe Biden’s pious demeanor and reckless energy initiatives. Richard A. The hidden life of Franz Jägerstätter offers us an example of how to love our fellow citizens in a time of partisan antagonism and division.
Early in 2020, I was instructed in the art of radical hospitality by a woman whose parents had demonstrated to her how to love one’s enemies. During my COVID-shortened semester abroad, five friends and I hopped a plane, trains, and an automobile to visit Sankt Radegund, Austria, home of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter, a brave soul who dissented amid social pressure and refused to swear allegiance to Adolf Hitler, paying for it with his life. Maria, nearly eighty years old and the second daughter of Franz and his wife Franziska, offered to fetch six American college kids, whose German skills ended at “guten Tag,” at the train station half an hour away. She and her friend Elisabeth, who had driven an additional three hours from Linz to assist, welcomed us as we stepped off the train.
Maria’s father’s story inspired A Hidden Life, Terrence Malick’s masterly 2019 film that poignantly showcases the deep Christian devotion of the Jägerstätters and the beauty of redemptive suffering. Franz Jägerstätter’s life was one of inspired insanity. Born in 1907 to an unwed maidservant, Franz led a colorful youth. He was a bright, avid reader, yet was equally fascinated by girls and motorbikes. He left Sankt Radegund to find work, lost his faith, returned, and fathered a child out of wedlock. He wanted to marry the woman, but his mother advised against it. (Franz remained devoted to the little girl until his death.) Following these events, he regained direction and relocated his faith. Indeed, Franz sought to enter the monastic life in 1934, but his priest recommended he fulfill his responsibility to his declining mother and family farm. As Franz contemplated his vocation, so did Franziska Schwaninger, a devout young woman who grew up nearby and was considering entering the convent.
After treating us to farm-fresh duck and dumplings, Maria and Elisabeth ferried us between the foothills to key places from her parents’ life. From the train station, we drove through snowy pines past Franz and Franziska’s childhood homes and stopped at the inn where Franz and Franziska met at a social gathering. We meandered up to the highest point in the surrounding area, overlooking the Salz river, the border between Austria and Germany. When Franz was young, Maria told us, he jumped in the freezing water and swam to the other side just to prove a point to his friends, perhaps an early sign of her father’s fearless and determined spirit. Our final stop was Sankt Radegund, first arriving at the small, whitewashed parish where once Franz was sacristan, but now serves as his burial place and shrine. Only a few minutes away was Franz and Franziska’s simple farmhouse, now converted into a museum.
Franz and Franziska quickly fell in love, marrying in 1936 and venturing on an unconventional honeymoon—a pilgrimage to Rome. Marriage proved a turning point for Franz. He followed Franziska to the sacraments and consistent theological study. Franziska was responsible for shaping Franz into an entirely different man. However, the grace extended to their marriage was hardly stoic; they played silly games with one another and penned lengthy, tender letters during time apart. In one of these, Franz wrote, “I could never have imagined that being married could be so wonderful.” Three small daughters, including Maria, joined their family over the next few years.
While the Jägerstätter family flourished, their little community, a stone’s throw away from Bavaria, was becoming nazified. Austrian church leaders pushed back, only to witness the surging popular approval of their new German overlords. The clergy chose between navigating the new status quo and suffering Nazi persecution.
From the outset, Franz was wary of Nazi suppression of the Church and studiously considered whether the two could be compatible. In 1938, when the Austrian people affirmed Germany’s annexation of their country, Franz dreamed of a train swarmed by a crowd, everyone fighting for a place on board. A voice in his dream proclaimed, “This train is going to hell,” and gently tugged him away. Franz eventually understood the train as an allegory for the creeping influence of the Nazis, which could only bring one’s soul to utter destruction. He wrote, “I want to call out to each person who’s sitting in the train: ‘Jump out before this train reaches the end of the line, even if it costs you your life!’”
After Franz’s solitary vote against the Nazis, his community badgered him to reconsider. No one, including his wife and the bishop of Linz, understood his position. He was drafted into the army and called up several times over the next few years, yet managed to avoid deployment. In 1941, Franz returned to Sankt Radegund, determined never to serve again. Devotion to his eternal homeland increased; he became a lay Franciscan and the sacristan of his parish. He wrote extensively about his conviction, touching on conscience, authority, obedience, and responsibility. He perceived a clear connection between his own predicament and that of Christ. Franz compared Austria’s acquiescent citizens to the crowd in first-century Jerusalem, who “were given the freedom to choose between the innocent redeemer and the criminal Barabbas,” intimidated into submission by the Pharisees or ostracized as fools if they resisted.
Franz’s interlude had an expiration date. In early 1943, he was conscripted from his civilian exemption. He requested service as a medic or to fight without weapons but was denied. Upon refusing to take the oath to Hitler required of all soldiers, he was interrogated and imprisoned. While he was incarcerated, fellow prisoners attested to his unshakable religious resolve and spirit of encouragement. Critics accused him of forfeiting his family’s good, rebelling against the Nazi cause in vain. Yet letters from prison to his wife and daughters are devoid of complaints or despair, instead offering rich reflection on suffering and conscience. Franz wrote to his wife, “I wanted . . . to spare you from all this suffering . . . however Christ said, ‘He that loves father, mother, wife and children more than me is not worthy of Me.’” Franziska supported her husband, although she failed to understand him fully and wondered if he still might serve in some capacity, thus saving his life and their family’s future.
It was not to be. In July 1943, Franz received a sentence of death from Berlin for the crime of “undermining military morale.” Franziska and their priest were permitted a final short visit to Franz in an attempt to sway his resolve. Like Christ, however, Franz’s commitment to following his conscience and eternal Father was unwavering. In one of his final letters, Franz wrote, “the most important thing is only that the Lord may not let me go to ruin for eternity.” On August 9, 1943, Franz was beheaded.
Even after Franz’s death and the end of the war, his family remained ostracized and his life was regarded by their community as a waste. Franziska was refused government pensions for decades due to the nature of Franz’s death, and thus bore the responsibility of her family’s livelihood, including the labor of farming. However, as Elisabeth attested in person, Franziska was never bitter. Even in the midst of her loss, she extended kindness to those who hated her. Multiple neighbors recall how Franz and Franziska generously fed and clothed them, even during their own tough times.
The warmth of the Jägerstätters’ joy and generosity was palpable. After our stop at their farmhouse, Maria invited us to her own home for coffee. Maria made four rounds with different Austrian pastries, insisting we take more. We sat with the two women for hours, asking questions about their family. Although Maria lamented having few memories of her father, she spoke of him proudly and laughed about asking for his intercession in the minutiae of finding her keys. Elisabeth reflected on the times she had sat at the same table with Franziska. “We like to joke around that Franziska was the real saint here,” she told us. Humor aside, Maria quietly hopes to see her parents canonized together. In Maria’s dining room hung a photo of Franziska’s face at her husband’s beatification, radiant.
To work off our pastries, we ventured out to the spot on Franz and Franziska’s farm where a modest monument in commemoration of Franz’s life now stands—marking his birth, death, and the date of his beatification at the Cathedral in Linz (2007). Elisabeth expressed how grateful she and Maria were to share the Jägerstätters’ story and led us in a few quiet prayers.
Then, giving us each an English copy of Franz’s biography, they drove us back to the train station well after dark, waving goodbye as our train rolled south toward Salzburg, the well-known home of Georg von Trapp and a very different conclusion to defying Nazi conscription. One leaned on his means and fled with his family; the other could not. Hospitality toward strangers was a remarkable testament to the spirit of the Jägerstätters, an unrelenting pursuit of truth unmarred by any trace of hostility. “Embrace your enemies” is Franz’s epitaph, engraved over the doors of his parish.
This hidden life speaks loudly in our antagonistic era. A prison reflection of Franz remains pertinent eighty years later: “It’s said that words instruct, but examples inspire us to follow. Do we not want to see Christians who, in the midst of all the darkness, are still able to stand above it all in clarity, calmness and confidence, who, in the midst of all the lack of peace and joy, the egoism and hate, still stand there in the purest peace and cheerfulness?” Norms of spite and ad hominem attacks saturate our discourse and uncivil behavior is lauded. The spoken or posted word may school our opponents and leave us feeling satisfied, but examples of reconciliation and grace would prove far more healing as Americans approach a new administration on the heels of a contested election. Sanctity emerges in the small and hidden acts of sacrifice. Franz put it best: “It’s possible, with God’s help, for us to work our way out of the swamp in which we’re stuck, and to attain eternal bliss.”

Thanks to China Joe, Beijing now has direct access to a key piece of American national security infrastructure, and all under the guise of combating the ever-present boogeyman known as “climate change,” with “public health” and “science” also thrown in for good measure.
Under Trump, Chinese interference with American infrastructure was on the chopping block. Trump had actively sought to ban, replace and set new criteria for bulk power system (BPS) electrical equipment coming from foreign countries, meaning Chinese equipment with possible hidden backdoors would not have been allowed in the United States.
“Foreign adversaries are increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the United States bulk-power system, which provides the electricity that supports our national defense, vital emergency services, critical infrastructure, economy, and way of life,” Trump’s EO read.
“The bulk-power system is a target of those seeking to commit malicious acts against the United States and its people, including malicious cyber activities, because a successful attack on our bulk-power system would present significant risks to our economy, human health and safety, and would render the United States less capable of acting in defense of itself and its allies.”

Trump’s EO went on to delineate that foreign countries and nationals thereof are – or were now that the Biden regime is pulling the strings – prohibited from acquiring, importing, transferring, or installing any BPS equipment in the U.S. To allow otherwise would put the country at needless risk of a cyberattack or other malicious invasion.
Any existing BPS equipment deemed to be in violation of the aforementioned guidelines was slated to be identified, isolated, monitored or replaced, as appropriate – but not under Biden.
No, the Chinese puppet currently occupying the White House is more than fine with allowing his masters to gain a foothold into America’s energy infrastructure. Expect rolling blackouts, utility warfare and a possible EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack under Biden.
Just four days prior to the Biden regime taking over, then-Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette issued a “prohibition order designed to reduce the risks that entities associated with the People’s Republic of China pose to the Nation’s BPS.”
“The order prohibits utilities that supply critical defense facilities (CDF) from procuring from the People’s Republic of China, specific BPS electric equipment that poses an undue risk to the BPS, the security or resilience of critical infrastructure, the economy, national security, or safety and security of Americans,” a press release added.
Biden’s EO undoes this directive, suspending Trump’s for at least 90 days. Biden has also ordered the new Secretary of Energy and Director of OMB to jointly consider “whether to recommend that a replacement order be issued.”
The fate of America’s BPS, in other words, is now in the hands of Biden’s hired lackeys, who almost certainly are working in the best interests of communist China rather than the U.S.
It all makes sense when considering that Hunter funneled millions of dollars into China General Nuclear Power Corp., a state-owned power company that was found to be guilty of stealing American nuclear technology for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This was all arranged after Hunter’s dad departed from the White House back in 2017.
