Welcome, once again, to the League of Saint Peter Damian’s monthly newsletter.  

This month’s Study Guide #16 centers on a now familiar and favorite theme of Saint Peter Damian – the correction of wayward bishops by clerics and laymen.  

Saint Peter Damian had just returned to Fonte Avellana, from a grueling session of a  Roman synod in July 1069, when he wrote Letter 164 to Pope Alexander III.

The two main criticisms of Church practices that the blessed monk covers on this occasion are (1) The almost universal practice of anathematizing by papal decree, without discriminating between greater and lesser offenses; (2) The prohibition  that neither cleric nor layman might expose to higher authority the failings of his bishop. A major part of Letter 164 letter deals with the second problem of episcopal immunity, and its sources.   

Faithful Catholics are well aware that the ongoing ex-Cardinal McCarrick, Monsignor Christoph Kühn, and  Bishop Michael Bransfield sex abuse  scandals involving minor boys and young adult seminarians and priests were known to Church authorities for decades before they became public. But the authorities were silent. And so it happens that Peter Damian’s words come back to haunt us with a most distressing and nagging refrain.

On Episcopal Immunity from Valid Criticism

Now, since such incomparable, eminent, and lofty men did not bridle 

at accounting to their  subjects for their own actions, what a figure of arrogance, 

what scornful pride is it, that in our day a bishop should feel so mighty

that he could hide behind the dignity of his office and not appear in court, 

as justice required, to reply to the sons of his diocese 

who insisted that they have been aggrieved.                                                                         

Introduction

To His Lord, Pope Alexander, the monk Peter the sinner offers his service.  

(2) You have written to tell me that I should write to you; you have directed that I should frequently send you my trifling pages, even though they reflect my lack of culture. Truly, I would rather weep than write; in fact, I should weep the more because I am unable to weep. Consequently, I left the synod over which your holiness presided, then so worn out and drained, with my spirit so burdened with agenda and as unyielding as a rock, that it could not be softened by the rains of compunction, or lifted somewhat out of its doldrums by the grace of intimate contemplation. To my way of thinking, what was given to me as penance, was promised to the saints as a gift of grace. … Accordingly, what was granted to holy men as a reward, is inflicted to torment me as I deserve. Wherefore, I have made up my mind that as long as I live, I shall absent myself entirely from Roman synods , unless unavoidable necessity compels me to go.

(3) Moreover, it seems to me that there are two practices frequently employed by the Apostolic See  that need thorough correction, if this should meet with your approval: first, that an anathema is attached to almost all decretal letters,  and secondly, that no member of any diocese, whether cleric or layman, is permitted to expose the failings of his bishop.

(4) Your tender kindness is not unaware of the enormous danger to man’s salvation presented by the first of these, of the bottomless abyss opening up for those who are in sin, and of the disaster for souls that it occasions. For it is said in these documents  that whoever does not observe this or that, or certainly, whoever makes void, what has previously been sanctioned, or violated in any way, let him be anathema. Here we should note how hazardous this is, and how great the danger of suddenly rushing to one’s damnation, so that even before one falls into the pit of eternal death, or is aware that he has been even slightly pushed, his foot, as it were, is already caught  in the hidden snare, just as he thought he was walking along at a free and easy gait.

(5) Therefore, if anyone should fail to observe this apostolic ordinance, or should transgress in even some slight or minor matter, like some heretic or as one found guilty of the gravest crimes, he is at once made liable to the sentence of excommunication. And although, according to the norms of justice, a greater delict is punished in one way, and a lesser in another, here the same indistinguishable penalty, namely excommunication, , is assigned to all, whether they have sinned gravely or venially. Nor does one suffer either the loss of his freedom, or the confiscation of property , nor is he assessed a financial penalty, after the manner of the courts or the decisions of secular law, but is instead deprived of God, the author of all good things.

Let the Punishment Fits the Crime 

(6) Thus, from another man a human being receives the kind of punishment that almighty God himself does not expect for a transgression of the law. For he states, “that who cares more for mother or father than for me,” and he does not immediately add , “let him be anathematized or cursed,” but says only “is not worthy of me,” and in the law it is stated that only “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a bruise for a bruise, and a burn for a burn” shall be required, and one who is guilty is not promptly expelled from the synagogue, nor condemned with a curse. Nor do the stoics consider all sins to be equal and therefore subject to indiscriminate punishment, but the amount of penalty must always be meted out in keeping with the type of fault. 

(7) I might add that neither Pope Gregory nor the other Fathers who from time to time presided over the Apostolic See, are known to have practiced this custom in issuing their decrees, except when they end with a short statement of the Catholic faith. Wherefore, if in your holy prudence you find it advisable, let the customary formula be removed in the future from decretal letters. In its place either an amount of pecuniary fine or some other penalty should be assigned for not observing them, lest what for some is seen as a means of safeguarding the provisions, should for others result in disaster for their souls.

Next: The Issue of Ecclesiastical Immunity from Criticism

(8) This statement, moreover, in which it is said: NO MEMBER OF ANY DIOCESE IS ALLOWED TO BRING THE FAILINGS OF HIS OWN BISHOP, AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS IN NEED OF CORRECTION, TO THE ATTENTION OF THE GREATER CHURCH,” IS TOTALLY AWRY, AND COMPLETELY OPPOSED TO ECCESIASTICAL DISCIPLINE (bold and caps added). For, who is in a better position to hear the faults of bishops than he who holds the office of superior [the Pope]? And thus, he surpasses all brother-bishops, so that while others are not permitted to do so, he alone may correct the errors of bishops because of the privilege of his own see. What kind of arrogance is this, what haughty disdain , and  finally, what an excess of pride to allow a bishop, right to wrong, to live as he will, and what is the extreme insolence, to deny his subjects the right to be heard? This is especially true, since they may not appeal to the courts of margraves or dukes, nor apply for a decision from secular judges, but must rather approach the Church and present episcopal affairs in need of judgement to their own bishop, so that a case which might be laughed out of court by going to secular authority, may be seriously and properly corrected  when brought before an episcopal tribunal. There, to be sure, the charge will be equitably handled, so that one who is accused might give evidence of his innocence, or humbly confess that he is a sinner. 

(9) Nor should one use the excuse of pleading that he ought not to be charged by those who are his subject, lest he appear to cover up his transgressions and escape justice, as he attempts to divert the injury rising from the allegations to someone else. 

For who is unaware that Peter, the prince of the apostles, received power from on high, was given the authority of binding and loosing whatever he wished in heaven and on earth, walked on the water, healed the sick by having only his shadow fall upon them, killed liars with the sword of his word alone, and by his prayers brought the dead back to life. Yet when this man of such lofty merits went at the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to visit  Cornelius, who was a Gentile, some of the faithful who had been converted from Judaism raised the issue of why he had gone into the house of strangers to the faith, presumed to eat with them, and, what was more, received them in baptism. 

He, I say, who was endowed with the incomparable power of so many heavenly gifts and was outstanding in his performance of so many miracles, did not use his authority to rebuff the questions of his subjects, but humbly replied by citing his reasons, and, like a truthful reporter, properly explained the case: how he had seen a receptacle lowered from the sky, like a sheet of cloth, containing creatures that could walk or crawl or fly, and how he had heard a voice that said: “Up, Peter, kill and eat. He also told them how three men had come to him, asking him to go to Cornelius, and how finally the Holy Spirit had ordered him to go with them. And just as the same Holy Spirit had come down upon those who had already been baptized in Judea, he descended upon the Gentiles, even before they had received baptism.

(10) Therefore, when his disciples found fault with him, and Peter chose to conceal the authority over the Church that had been given him, he might have replied that the sheep committed to his care should not dare to accuse their shepherd. But if he had interposed his rightful prerogative against the complaint of the faithful, he would clearly not have been the doctor of clemency. Hence he did not curb them by using the preeminence of his privileged position, but rather appeased them by his humble reply; and just as though his own word did not suffice to establish his credibility, he also produced witnesses: “My six companions here,” he said,  “came with me.” 

(11) And so, when a bishop is challenged about his actions, he should learn to give an account in all humility, not haughtily playing on the eminence of his high office, nor thinking that he has been wronged when he is corrected by one of his subjects, but should consider him rather as a counselor or as a doctor who will attend to his wound.

King David Bowed Before Nathan’s Charges

When the prophet Nathan reproached David so harshly and severely, did he incur the anger of the king? Did the latter confront the prophet with the dignity of his royal authority, and repel him as if insulting him? Instead, as soon as he recognized he was sick, he gladly accepted the remedy, laid bare the wound, and did not shutter when the knife was applied. Take note of the humble patient who said: “I have sinned against the Lord,” and listen to how quickly the medicine took effect: “The Lord has laid on another the consequences of your sin: you shall not die.”

(12) King Ahab, on the other hand, by distaining to listen to the prophet who upbraided him, was unable to avoid the avenging sword that threatened him. The Lord said: “Because you let that man go when I had put him under the ban, your life shall be forfeit for his life, your people for his people.” And thus David, by listening with an open mind to the accusation of guilt leveled at him, escaped the sentence of death that he deserved, but Ahab, by revealing his anger when corrected, and by wickedly showing mercy to an unworthy king, was not pardoned.

(13) Did not the women who hospitably welcomed the Savior, quarrel among themselves, as one complained about the other for forcing her to get on with the work alone? But Mary might have answered after the fashion of our bishops: “You have accused me, and condemned my idleness and negligence.” Certainly, not every complaint is to be immediately called an accusation. For a compassionate complaint is one thing, while a jealous and hateful accusation is quite another. The former happens that some fault might be  corrected, but the latter is meant to condemn someone who has sinned

St. Peter Bowed Before St. Paul’s Correction

(14) It is clear that Paul rebuked Peter and opposed him to his face, and in the presence of all told him was wrong. Yet Peter did not take offense at this accusation, but accepted it patiently  and in good nature, since he obviously understood that it did no proceed from spite but from charity.

True Shepherds Listen to Their Sheep 

(15) But now one will say: “I am the bishop, I am the shepherd of the diocese. I should not have to put up with these bothersome accusations from the sheep in my charge, and it is my prerogative, for the sake of the faith, to have them tolerate my wayward habits.” Yet tell me, whoever you might be, have you never read what is written in the Gospel: “If your brother sins against you, go and take up the matter with him, strictly between yourselves, and if he listens to you, you have won your brother over. If he will not listen, take two or three others with you, so that all the facts may be duly established on the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to you, report the matter to the Church.”

(16) THEREFORE, IF A CASE INVOLVING ANY OF THE BRETHREN IS TO BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE CHURCH, WHY NOT ONE THAT INVOLVES BISHOPS ? (bold and caps added). Moreover, if a bishop who is a sinner in the Church refuses to be interrogated  in the Church, who would then brook coercion by the laws of the Church? Again, as you claim, if it is not permitted the sons of the diocese even to hint at an accusation against you, are witnesses to be brought in from elsewhere, since by living outside the diocese they do not know you and what you are doing?

Blessed Job says, “Have I ever rejected the plea of my slave?” And you state, “God forbid that I should that I should stoop to be tried by my cleric.” And Almighty God  exclaims in the words of Isaiah: “Give the orphan his rights, plead the widow’s cause, and then come and accuse me.” If he, who is the Judge of all things, does not consider it beneath his dignity to be accused by his servants, do you who are a servant flinch at appearing at a trial with your fellow servant? And you who are earth and ashes, worms and dust, do you find it something despicable to humble yourself according to the example of your Maker? You should especially remember what Scripture  says, “If they have chosen you to be their ruler, do not put on airs; behave to them as one of themselves.” 

Who, in fact, is unaware that the Israelites  acted shabbily toward Samuel, and unjustly threw him out of office? And while he might deservedly have denounced them for acting improperly, he gave none of his accusers any further reason for charging him, and asked them whether he had ever been harsh in his dealings with them. “Here I am,” he said, “lay your complaints against me in the presence of the Lord and of his appointed king. Whose ox have I taken, whose ass have I taken? Whom have I wronged, whom have I oppressed? From whom have I taken a bribe, to turn a blind eye? Tell me, and I will make restitution.”

(18) Therefore, this pernicious custom must be eliminated from the discipline of the Church; this clever attempt at subterfuge must be abrogated, so that anyone who would dare such perverse excuses based on pride, should not be afforded immunity for the crime he has committed. Consequently, a free approach must be provided for just complaints, and appeals to a primatial see must be allowed for those known to be oppressed by their bishop, lest he who in his pride refuses to consider his brothers as his equal, should boast of the uniqueness of his high prerogative. He, moreover, who wields the rod of correction over others, should be aware that the rigorous discipline of the Church is superior to him. And he who does not speak humanely , but like rolling thunder terrifies others with his booming voice, should at length recognize that he is a man, and in humility learn to speak in human words. And thus, as this arrogant prelate is deprived of his boastful eminence, and subjects are relieved by the authority of a greater church, conflict everywhere will be put to rest, and out of fear of a synodal trial, all members of the Church will live together in peace.

The Soros Cover-UpAmericans can’t let Twitter noiseoverwhelm political reality. By: Newt Gingrich September 17, 2020 I have been watching a truly curious phenomenon over the past few days. It seems there is suddenly a movement in media to silence anyone who speaks out against George Soros—and, specifically, his funding of radical prosecutors seeking to change the criminal justice system by simply ignoring certain crimes.  This happened to me personally this week while I was being interviewed on Fox’s Outnumbered. When I brought up Soros’s plan to get pro-criminal, anti-police prosecutors elected across the country, two of the show’s participants interrupted me and forcefully asserted that Soros was not involved.  Host Harris Faulkner, it seemed, was stunned by the interruptions, and did her part to move the show forward after some awkward silence. The next day, she addressed the strange moment during the show and condemned censorship. Immediately after the show, Twitter and other social media went crazy.  People were alleging that any criticism of Soros’s political involvement is automatically false, anti-Semitic, or both. This is ludicrous. Soros’s plan to elect these prosecutors has been well documented already—and it has nothing to do with his spiritual or ethnic background. The Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Politico, USA Today, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, CBS, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel—even Fox News itself, among others, have all thoroughly reported on it.  There are plenty of specific examples of Soros’s work in action.  Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, who campaigned on the promise that he would not prosecute a host of crimes—including thefts—admitted his campaign was largely funded through Soros or his groups. He has been so dismissive of crime and police that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has had to send in the Texas State Patrol to police large swaths of Dallas.  Soros gave $333,000 to the Safety and Justice PAC in 2016 to support then-Cook County District Attorney candidate Kim Foxx in Illinois—who is currently presiding over terrible violence and mayhem in Chicago, where murders are twice what they were in 2019.  Soros and his organizations spent $1.7 million to help get Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner elected in 2018. Before being elected, Krasner earned a name for himself by suing the Philadelphia Police Department 75 times. Since he took office, dozens of experienced prosecutors have either been fired or resigned. Criminal prosecutions have plummeted and crime has risen. Philadelphia now has the second-highest murder rate among large cities in the country.  Former Hugo Chavez advisor and current San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin was also funded by Soros and his groups. Boudin has called prison “an act of violence” and has refused to prosecute a slew of illegal acts, from public urination to the public solicitation of sex, which he deems to be “quality of life crimes.” By the way, Boudin is the foster child of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, of terrorist group Weather Underground fame. His birth parents were convicted and imprisoned for their involvement in an armed robbery-turned-homicide.  One of Soros’s favored PACs spent $402,000 to support a failed San Diego County District Attorney bid by Geneviéve Jones-Wright.  In 2016, a Soros-funded super PAC donated $107,000 to benefit Raul Torrez in his Bernalillo County District Attorney primary—which he won by a 2-to-1 margin. In fact, Soros’s huge funding prompted the Republican running to bow out because it was just too expensive to run against Torrez.  Soros-backed George Gascon is currently challenging Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, who has been targeted and systematically harassed by Black Lives Matter supporters.  I’m not overly surprised to see the Twitter mob embrace a sudden, near-universal denial of these facts. I am alarmed to see that the force of this groupthink on social media appears to be strongly influencing professional media.  I think the heart of this mass denial is that Democrats and the Left are watching the terrible human cost of their misguided, pro-criminal, anti-police justice policies, and they are beginning to worry that the American people will realize who is responsible for them.  Rather than deal with something difficult — or admit they were wrong— the activists of the radical Left are trying to find some way to scream “racist” and get the media to follow suit.  America will suffer if our professional media continue to be overruled by our social media. Biden is just a placeholder, a brand name at the top to scam voters. But he will never serve as the actual president. Who’s dumb enough to not see that? The real behind-the-scenes winners will be Kamala Harris as president and Nancy Pelosi as vice president. Add in the infamous radical Commie Squad as the Cabinet. That’s who’s really running the Democratic Party nowadays: Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And don’t forget former President Barack Obama and Rep. Maxine Waters for the Supreme Court. That’s the team you’re really voting for when you vote for Biden: two California crazies and a bunch of commies (literally). But it’s certainly not Biden. Even Biden knows it. He spilled the beans just days ago. He called it “the Harris-Biden administration” while talking to the press. Can you imagine? Even the presidential candidate knows deep down he’s not going to be the actual president. Days ago, Harris spilled the beans by mistake, too. She was talking to the press and called it “the Harris administration.” Has any VP candidate in history ever made this mistake? Did Dan Quayle forget George H.W. Bush and call it “the Quayle administration?” Did Al Gore forget Bill Clinton and call it “the Gore administration?” Did Joe Biden forget Barack Obama and call it “the Biden administration?” Of course not. Joe Biden, the actual presidential candidate, and Kamala Harris, the VP candidate, both forgot Joe Biden was the candidate. Think about that for a minute. It’s either temporary insanity or conspiracy. Poor Joe clearly has signs of dementia. He’s very old, feeble, mumbling and bumbling, at times incoherent. He can’t string three good sentences together. He hides in his basement with a mask. Since Labor Day, President Trump has held rallies in front of 62,000 Americans, versus Biden, who has spoken in front of 64, mostly members of the media. But don’t worry about Biden. No need to ever mention him again. He’s just the placeholder. He’ll be president in name only. With a President Kamala Harris and Vice President Nancy Pelosi running the show, there is no debate, no question, on what you’ll get: THE END OF AMERICA. And, of course, the end of the Republican Party. Nothing should scare Middle America and independent voters more than a country run by two radical, extreme California socialists who turned California into a real-life “Nightmare on Elm Street” with rampant crime; an economy still closed down for COVID-19; the most welfare recipients and homeless in America; millions and millions of illegal aliens protected in a sanctuary state; streets littered with drug needles, poop and pee; and the highest taxes in America. Here’s what you can expect from President Harris and Vice President Pelosi. They will open the borders like never before in history. They will defund and disband Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They will offer free health care to everyone in the world. Soon there will be 300 million, 600 million, even a billion new arrivals at our borders. And since we’re offering free health care, it’s guaranteed many of them will be sick and stick American taxpayers with the enormous bill. Not just pregnancy, cancer, heart disease, diabetes or COVID-19 bills, by the way. They’ll expect hundreds of thousands of free $150,000 surgeries for transgender people. You — taxpayers who never had anything to do with slavery — will have to pay trillions of dollars in reparations to people who were never slaves. You’ll be wearing masks for life — outdoors, indoors, everywhere. If anyone remains sick with COVID-19 or influenza, the economy and your business will be closed for years on end. Voting will be mail-in forevermore, with no ID required. Illegal aliens will officially receive the right to vote. The Electoral College will be canceled. The Supreme Court will double in size, and nine new liberal judges will be added. And we’ll quickly add two new states: Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., along with four new Democratic senators. The Senate will have a Democratic majority for life. Your suburban life will be destroyed with forced low-income, high-density government housing. Say hello to the streets of Chicago. And capitalism will be destroyed once and for all, with massive tax increases, draconian regulations, $90 trillion spent on the Green New Deal and trillions more spent on free “Medicare for All.” That’s America under President Kamala Harris (whose voting record in the Senate is to the left of crazy socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders), Vice President Nancy Pelosi, the Commie Squad as the Cabinet and Justices Obama and Mad Maxine. And what about Biden? He’ll spend weekdays hiding in the White House basement. 1. Advancement Project: This organization works to organize “communities of color” into politically cohesive units while disseminating its leftist worldviews and values as broadly as possible by way of a sophisticated communications department.

6. America Coming Together: Soros played a major role in creating this group, whose purpose was to coordinate and organize pro-Democrat voter-mobilization programs.
7. America Votes: Soros also played a major role in creating this group, whose get-out-the-vote campaigns targeted likely Democratic voters.
8. America’s Voice: This open-borders group seeks to promote “comprehensive” immigration reform that includes a robust agenda in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens.
9. American Bar Association Commission on Immigration Policy: This organization “opposes laws that require employers and persons providing education, health care, or other social services to verify citizenship or immigration status.”
10. American Bridge 21st Century: This Super PAC conducts opposition research designed to help Democratic political candidates defeat their Republican foes.
11. American Civil Liberties Union: This group opposes virtually all post-9/11 national security measures enacted by the U.S. government. It supports open borders, has rushed to the defense of suspected terrorists and their abettors, and appointed former New Left terrorist Bernardine Dohrn to its Advisory Board.
12. American Constitution Society for Law and Policy: This Washington, DC-based think tank seeks to move American jurisprudence to the left by recruiting, indoctrinating, and mobilizing young law students, helping them acquire positions of power. It also provides leftist Democrats with a bully pulpit from which to denounce their political adversaries.
13. American Family Voices: This group creates and coordinates media campaigns charging Republicans with wrongdoing.

American Federation of Teachers: After longtime AFT President Albert Shanker died in in 1997, he was succeeded by Sandra Feldman, who slowly “re-branded” the union, allying it with some of the most powerful left-wing elements of the New Labor Movement. When Feldman died in 2004, Edward McElroy took her place, followed by Randi Weingarten in 2008. All of them kept the union on the leftward course it had adopted in its post-Shanker period.
15. American Friends Service Committee: This group views the United States as the principal cause of human suffering around the world. As such, it favors America’s unilateral disarmament, the dissolution of American borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, the abolition of the death penalty, and the repeal of the Patriot Act.
16. American Immigration Council: This non-profit organization is a prominent member of the open-borders lobby. It advocates expanded rights and amnesty for illegal aliens residing in the U.S.
17. American Immigration Law Foundation: This group supports amnesty for illegal aliens, on whose behalf it litigates against the U.S. government.
18. American Independent News Network: This organization promotes “impact journalism” that advocates progressive change.
19. American Institute for Social Justice: AISJ’s goal is to produce skilled community organizers who can “transform poor communities” by agitating for increased government spending on city services, drug interdiction, crime prevention, housing, public-sector jobs, access to healthcare, and public schools.
20. American Library Association: This group has been an outspoken critic of the Bush administration’s War on Terror — most particularly, Section 215 of the USA Patriot Act, which it calls “a present danger to the constitutional rights and privacy rights of library users.”
21. The American Prospect, Inc.: This corporation trains and mentors young leftwing journalists, and organizes strategy meetings for leftist leaders.
22. Amnesty International: This organization directs a grossly disproportionate share of its criticism for human rights violations at the United States and Israel.
23. Applied Research Center: Viewing the United States as a nation where “structural racism” is deeply “embedded in the fabric of society,” ARC seeks to “build a fair and equal society” by demanding “concrete change from our most powerful institutions.”
24. Arab American Institute Foundation: The Arab American Institute denounces the purportedly widespread civil liberties violations directed against Arab Americans in the post-9/11 period, and characterizes Israel as a brutal oppressor of the Palestinian people.
25. Aspen Institute: This organization promotes radical environmentalism and views America as a nation plagued by deep-seated “structural racism.”
26. Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now: This group conducts voter mobilization drives on behalf of leftist Democrats. These initiatives have been notoriously marred by fraud and corruption.
27. Ballot Initiative Strategy Center: This organization seeks to advance “a national progressive strategy” by means of ballot measures—state-level legislative proposals that pass successfully through a petition (“initiative”) process and are then voted upon by the public.
28. Bend The Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice: This organization condemns Voter ID laws as barriers that “make it harder for communities of color, women, first-time voters, the elderly, and the poor to cast their vote.”
29. Bill of Rights Defense Committee: This group provides a detailed blueprint for activists interested in getting their local towns, cities, and even college campuses to publicly declare their opposition to the Patriot Act, and to designate themselves “Civil Liberties Safe Zones.” The organization also came to the defense of self-described radical attorney Lynne Stewart, who was convicted in 2005 of providing material support for terrorism.
30. Black Alliance for Just Immigration: This organization seeks to create a unified movement for “social and economic justice” centered on black racial identity.
31. Blueprint North Carolina: This group seeks to “influence state policy in North Carolina so that residents of the state benefit from more progressive policies such as better access to health care, higher wages, more affordable housing, a safer, cleaner environment, and access to reproductive health services.”
32. Brennan Center for Justice: This think tank/legal activist group generates scholarly studies, mounts media campaigns, files amicus briefs, gives pro bono support to activists, and litigates test cases in pursuit of radical “change.”
33. Brookings Institution: This organization has been involved with a variety of internationalist and state-sponsored programs, including one that aspires to facilitate the establishment of a U.N.-dominated world government. Brookings Fellows have also called for additional global collaboration on trade and banking; the expansion of the Kyoto Protocol; and nationalized health insurance for children. Nine Brookings economists signed a petitionopposing President Bush’s tax cuts in 2003.
34. Campaign for America’s Future: This group supports tax hikes, socialized medicine, and a dramatic expansion of social welfare programs.
35. Campaign for Better Health Care: This organization favors a single-payer, government-run, universal health care system.
36. Campaign for Youth Justice: This organization contends that “transferring juveniles to the adult criminal-justice system leads to higher rates of recidivism, puts incarcerated and detained youth at unnecessary risk, has little deterrence value, and does not increase public safety.”
37. Campus Progress: A project of the Soros-bankrolled Center for American Progress, this group seeks to “strengthen progressive voices on college and university campuses, counter the growing influence of right-wing groups on campus, and empower new generations of progressive leaders.”
38. Casa de Maryland: This organization aggressively lobbies legislators to vote in favor of policies that promote expanded rights, including amnesty, for illegal aliens currently residing in the United States.
39. Catalist: This is a for-profit political consultancy that seeks “to help progressive organizations realize measurable increases in civic participation and electoral success by building and operating a robust national voter database of every voting-age American.”
40. Catholics for Choice: This nominally Catholic organization supports women’s right to abortion-on-demand.
41. Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good: This political nonprofit group is dedicated to generating support from the Catholic community for leftwing candidates, causes, and legislation.
42. Center for American Progress: This leftist think tank is headed by former Clinton chief of staff John Podesta, works closely with Hillary Clinton, and employs numerous former Clinton administration staffers. It is committed to “developing a long-term vision of a progressive America” and “providing a forum to generate new progressive ideas and policy proposals.”
43. Center for Community Change: This group recruits and trains activists to spearhead leftist “political issue campaigns.” Promoting increased funding for social welfare programs by bringing “attention to major national issues related to poverty,” the Center bases its training programs on the techniques taught by the famed radical organizer Saul Alinsky.
44. Center for Constitutional Rights: This pro-Castro organization is a core member of the open borders lobby, has opposed virtually all post-9/11 anti-terrorism measures by the U.S. government, and alleges that American injustice provokes acts of international terrorism.
45. Center for Economic and Policy Research: This group opposed welfare reform, supports “living wage” laws, rejects tax cuts, and consistently lauds the professed achievements of socialist regimes, most notably Venezuela.
46. Center for International Policy: This organization uses advocacy, policy research, media outreach, and educational initiatives to promote “transparency and accountability” in U.S. foreign policy and global relations. It generally views America as a disruptive, negative force in the world.
47. Center for Reproductive Rights: CRR’s mission is to guarantee safe, affordable contraception and abortion-on-demand for all women, including adolescents. The organization has filed state and federal lawsuits demanding access to taxpayer-funded abortions (through Medicaid) for low-income women.
48. Center for Responsible Lending: This organization was a major player in the subprime mortgage crisis. According to Phil Kerpen (vice president for policy at Americans for Prosperity), CRL “sh[ook] down and harass[ed] banks into making bad loans to unqualified borrowers.” Moreover, CRL negotiated a contract enabling it to operate as a conduit of high-risk loans to Fannie Mae.
49. Center for Social Inclusion: This organization seeks to counteract America’s “structural racism” by means of taxpayer-funded policy initiatives.
50. Center on Budget and Policy Priorities: Reasoning from the premise that tax cuts generally help only the wealthy, this organization advocates greater tax expenditures on social welfare programs for low earners.
51. Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS): Aiming to redistribute wealth by way of higher taxes imposed on those whose incomes are above average, COWS contends that “it is important that state government be able to harness fair contribution from all parts of society – including corporations and the wealthy.”
52. Change America Now: Formed in December 2006, Change America Now describes itself as “an independent political organization created to educate citizens on the failed policies of the Republican Congress and to contrast that record of failure with the promise offered by a Democratic agenda.”
53. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington: This group litigates and brings ethics charges against “government officials who sacrifice the common good to special interests” and “betray the public trust.” Almost all of its targets are Republicans.
54. Coalition for an International Criminal Court: This group seeks to subordinate American criminal-justice procedures to those of an international court.
55. Color Of Change: This organization was founded to combat what it viewed as the systemic racism pervading America generally and conservatism in particular.
56. Common Cause: This organization aims to bring about campaign-finance reform, pursue media reform resembling the Fairness Doctrine, and cut military budgets in favor of increased social-welfare and environmental spending.
57. Constitution Project: This organization seeks to challenge the legality of military commissions; end the detainment of “enemy combatants”; condemn government surveillance of terrorists; and limit the President’s executive privileges.
58. Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund: Defenders of Wildlife opposes oil exploration in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It condemns logging, ranching, mining, and even the use of recreational motorized vehicles as activities that are destructive to the environment.
59. Democracy Alliance: This self-described “liberal organization” aims to raise $200 million to develop a funding clearinghouse for leftist groups. Soros is a major donor to this group.
60. Democracy 21: This group is a staunch supporter of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, also known as the McCain-Feingold Act.
61. Democracy Now!: Democracy Now! was created in 1996 by WBAI radio news director Amy Goodman and four partners to provide “perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media,” i.e., the views of radical and foreign journalists, left and labor activists, and ideological foes of capitalism.
62. Democratic Justice Fund: DJF opposes the Patriot Act and most efforts to restrict or regulate immigration into the United States — particularly from countries designated by the State Department as “terrorist nations.”
63. Democratic Party: Soros’ funding activities are devoted largely to helping the Democratic Party solidify its power base. In a November 2003 interview, Soros stated that defeating President Bush in 2004 “is the central focus of my life” … “a matter of life and death.” He pledged to raise $75 million to defeat Bush, and personally donated nearly a third of that amount to anti-Bush organizations. “America under Bush,” he said, “is a danger to the world, and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.”
64. Demos: This organization lobbies federal and state policymakers to “addres[s] the economic insecurity and inequality that characterize American society today”; promotes “ideas for reducing gaps in wealth, income and political influence”; and favors tax hikes for the wealthy.
65. Drum Major Institute: This group describes itself as “a non-partisan, non-profit think tank generating the ideas that fuel the progressive movement,” with the ultimate aim of persuading “policymakers and opinion-leaders” to take steps that advance its vision of “social and economic justice.”
66. Earthjustice: This group seeks to place severe restrictions on how U.S. land and waterways may be used. It opposes most mining and logging initiatives, commercial fishing businesses, and the use of motorized vehicles in undeveloped areas.
67. Economic Policy Institute: This organization believes that “government must play an active role in protecting the economically vulnerable, ensuring equal opportunity, and improving the well-being of all Americans.”
68. Electronic Privacy Information Center: This organization has been a harsh critic of the USA PATRIOT Act and has joined the American Civil Liberties Union in litigating two cases calling for the FBI “to publicly release or account for thousands of pages of information about the government’s use of PATRIOT Act powers.”
69. Ella Baker Center for Human Rights: Co-founded by the revolutionary communist Van Jones, this anti-poverty organization claims that “decades of disinvestment in our cities” — compounded by “excessive, racist policing and over-incarceration” — have “led to despair and homelessness.”
70. EMILY’s List: This political network raises money for Democratic female political candidates who support unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand.
71. Energy Action Coalition: Founded in 2004, this group describes itself as “a coalition of 50 youth-led environmental and social justice groups working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement.” For EAC, this means “dismantling oppression” according to its principles of environmental justice.
72. Equal Justice USA: This group claims that America’s criminal-justice system is plagued by “significant race and class biases,” and thus seeks to promote major reforms.
73. Fair Immigration Reform Movement: This is the open-borders arm of the Center for Community Change.
74. Faithful America: This organization promotes the redistribution of wealth, an end to enhanced interrogation procedures vis a vis prisoners-of-war, the enactment of policies to combat global warming, and the creation of a government-run heath care system.
75. Families USA: This Washington-based health-care advocacy group favors ever-increasing government control of the American healthcare system.
76. Feminist Majority: Characterizing the United States as an inherently sexist nation, this group focuses on “advancing the legal, social and political equality of women with men, countering the backlash to women’s advancement, and recruiting and training young feminists to encourage future leadership for the feminist movement in the United States.”
77. Four Freedoms Fund: This organization was designed to serve as a conduit through which large foundations could fund state-based open-borders organizations more flexibly and quickly.
78. Free Exchange on Campus: This organization was created solely to oppose the efforts of one individual, David Horowitz, and his campaign to have universities adopt an “Academic Bill of Rights,” as well as todenounce Horowitz’s 2006 book The Professors. Member organizations of FEC include Campus Progress (a project of the Center for American Progress); the American Association of University Professors; theAmerican Civil Liberties Union; People For the American Way; the United States Student Association; theCenter for Campus Free Speech; the American Library Association; Free Press; and the National Association of State Public Interest Research Groups.

Free Press: This “media reform” organization has worked closely with many notable leftists and such organizations as Media Matters for America, Air America Radio, Global Exchange, Code Pink, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, the Revolutionary Communist Party, Mother Jones magazine, and Pacifica Radio.

Funding Exchange: Dedicated to the concept of philanthropy as a vehicle for social change, this organization pairs leftist donors and foundations with likeminded groups and activists who are dedicated to bringing about their own version of “progressive” change and social justice. Many of these grantees assume that American society is rife with racism, discrimination, exploitation, and inequity and needs to be overhauled via sustained education, activism, and social agitation.
81. Gamaliel Foundation: Modeling its tactics on those of the radical Sixties activist Saul Alinsky, this group takes a strong stand against current homeland security measures and immigration restrictions.
82. Gisha: Center for the Legal Protection of Freedom of Movement: This anti-Israel organization seeks to help Palestinians “exercise their right to freedom of movement.”
83. Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect: This group contends that when a state proves either unable or unwilling to protect civilians from mass atrocities occurring within its borders, it is the responsibility of the international community to intervene — peacefully if possible, but with military force if necessary.
84. Global Exchange: Established in 1988 by pro-Castro radical Medea Benjamin, this group consistently condemns America’s foreign policy, business practices, and domestic life. Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Global Exchange advised Americans to examine “the root causes of resentment against the United States in the Arab world — from our dependence on Middle Eastern oil to our biased policy towards Israel.”
85. Grantmakers Without Borders: GWB tends to be very supportive of leftist environmental, anti-war, and civil rights groups. It is also generally hostile to capitalism, which it deems one of the chief “political, economic, and social systems” that give rise to a host of “social ills.”
86. Green For All: This group was created by Van Jones to lobby for federal climate, energy, and economic policy initiatives.
87. Health Care for America Now: This group supports a “single payer” model where the federal government would be in charge of financing and administering the entire U.S. healthcare system.
88. Human Rights Campaign: The largest “lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender” lobbying group in the United States, HRC supports political candidates and legislation that will advance the LGBT agenda. Historically, HRC has most vigorously championed HIV/AIDS-related legislation, “hate crime” laws, the abrogation of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and the legalization of gay marriage.
89. Human Rights First: This group supports open borders and the rights of illegal aliens; charges that the Patriot Act severely erodes Americans’ civil liberties; has filed amicus curiae briefs on behalf of terror suspect Jose Padilla; and deplores the Guantanamo Bay detention facilities.
90. Human Rights Watch: This group directs a disproportionate share of its criticism at the United States and Israel. It opposes the death penalty in all cases, and supports open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.
91. I’lam: This anti-Israel NGO seeks “to develop and empower the Arab media and to give voice to Palestinian issues.”
92. Immigrant Defense Project: To advance the cause of illegal immigrants, the IDP provides immigration law backup support and counseling to New York defense attorneys and others who represent or assist immigrants in criminal justice and immigration systems, as well as to immigrants themselves.
93. Immigrant Legal Resource Center: This group claims to have helped gain amnesty for some three million illegal aliens in the U.S., and in the 1980s was part of the sanctuary movement which sought to grant asylum to refugees from the failed Communist states of Central America.
94. Immigrant Workers Citizenship Project: This open-borders organization advocates mass immigration to the U.S.
95. Immigration Advocates Network: This alliance of immigrant-rights groups seeks to “increase access to justice for low-income immigrants and strengthen the capacity of organizations serving them.”
96. Immigration Policy Center: IPC is an advocate of open borders and contends that the massive influx of illegal immigrants into America is due to U.S. government policy, since “the broken immigration system […] spurs unauthorized immigration in the first place.”
97. Independent Media Center: This Internet-based, news and events bulletin board represents an invariably leftist, anti-capitalist perspective and serves as a mouthpiece for anti-globalization/anti-America themes.
98. Independent Media Institute: IMI administers the SPIN Project (Strategic Press Information Network), which provides leftist organizations with “accessible and affordable strategic communications consulting, training, coaching, networking opportunities and concrete tools” to help them “achieve their social justice goals.”
99. Institute for America’s Future: IAF supports socialized medicine, increased government funding for education, and the creation of an infrastructure “to ensure that the voice of the progressive majority is heard.”
100. Institute for New Economic Thinking: Seeking to create a new worldwide “economic paradigm,” this organization is staffed by numerous individuals who favor government intervention in national economies, and who view capitalism as a flawed system.
101. Institute for Policy Studies: This think tank has long supported Communist and anti-American causes around the world. Viewing capitalism as a breeding ground for “unrestrained greed,” IPS seeks to provide a corrective to “unrestrained markets and individualism.” Professing an unquestioning faith in the righteousness of the United Nations, it aims to bring American foreign policy under UN control.
102. Institute for Public Accuracy: This anti-American, anti-capitalist organization sponsored actor Sean Penn’s celebrated visit to Baghdad in 2002. It also sponsored visits to Iraq by Democratic Congressmen Nick Rahall and former Democrat Senator James Abourezk
103. Institute for Women’s Policy Research: This group views the U.S. as a nation rife with discrimination against women, and publishes research to draw attention to this alleged state of affairs. It also advocates unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, stating that “access to abortion is essential to the economic well-being of women and girls.”
104. International Crisis Group: One of this organization’s leading figures is its Mideast Director, Robert Malley, who was President Bill Clinton’s Special Assistant for Arab-Israeli Affairs. His analysis of the Mideast conflict is markedly pro-Palestinian.
105. J Street: This anti-Israel group warns that Israel’s choice to take military action to stop Hamas’ terrorist attacks “will prove counter-productive and only deepen the cycle of violence in the region”
106. Jewish Funds for Justice: This organization views government intervention and taxpayer funding as crucial components of enlightened social policy. It seeks to redistribute wealth from Jewish donors to low-income communities “to combat the root causes of domestic economic and social injustice.” By JFJ’s reckoning, chief among those root causes are the inherently negative by-products of capitalism – most notably racism and “gross economic inequality.”
107. Joint Victory Campaign 2004: Founded by George Soros and Harold Ickes, this group was a major fundraising entity for Democrats during the 2004 election cycle. It collected contributions (including large amounts from Soros personally) and disbursed them to two other groups, America Coming Together and the Media Fund, which also worked on behalf of Democrats.
108. Justice at Stake: This coalition calls for judges to be appointed by nonpartisan, independent commissions in a process known as “merit selection,” rather than elected by the voting public.
109. LatinoJustice PRLDF: This organization supports bilingual education, the racial gerrymandering of voting districts, and expanded rights for illegal aliens.

Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law: This group views America as an unremittingly racist nation; uses the courts to mandate race-based affirmative action preferences in business and academia; has filed briefs against the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to limit the wholesale granting of green cards and to identify potential terrorists; condemns the Patriot Act; and calls on Americans to “recognize the contribution” of illegal aliens.

League of United Latin American Citizens: This group views America as a nation plagued by “an alarming increase in xenophobia and anti-Hispanic sentiment”; favors racial preferences; supports the legalization of illegal Hispanic aliens; opposes military surveillance of U.S. borders; opposes making English America’s official language; favors open borders; and rejects anti-terrorism legislation like the Patriot Act.
113. League of Women Voters Education Fund: The League supports taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand; supports “motor-voter” registration, which allows anyone with a driver’s license to become a voter, regardless of citizenship status; and supports tax hikes and socialized medicine.
114. League of Young Voters: This organization seeks to “empowe[r] young people nationwide” to “participate in the democratic process and create progressive political change on the local, state and national level[s].”
115. Lynne Stewart Defense Committee: IRS records indicate that Soros’s Open Society Institute made a September 2002 grant of $20,000 to this organization. Stewart was the criminal-defense attorney who was later convicted for abetting her client, the “blind sheik” Omar Abdel Rahman, in terrorist activities connected with his Islamic Group.
116. Machsom Watch: This organization describes itself as “a movement of Israeli women, peace activists from all sectors of Israeli society, who oppose the Israeli occupation and the denial of Palestinians’ rights to move freely in their land.”
117. MADRE: This international women’s organization deems America the world’s foremost violator of human rights. As such, it seeks to “communicat[e] the real-life impact of U.S. policies on women and families confronting violence, poverty and repression around the world,” and to “demand alternatives to destructive U.S. policies.” It also advocates unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand.
118. Malcolm X Grassroots Movement: This group views the U.S. as a nation replete with racism and discrimination against blacks; seeks to establish an independent black nation in the southeastern United States; and demands reparations for slavery.

Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition: This group calls for the expansion of civil rights and liberties for illegal aliens; laments that illegal aliens in America are commonly subjected to “worker exploitation”; supports tuition-assistance programs for illegal aliens attending college; and characterizes the Patriot Act as a “very troubling” assault on civil liberties.
120. Media Fund: Soros played a major role in creating this group, whose purpose was to conceptualize, produce, and place political ads on television, radio, print, and the Internet.

Media Matters for America: This organization is a “web-based, not-for-profit … progressive research and information center” seeking to “systematically monitor a cross-section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation.” The group works closely with the Soros-backed Center for American Progress, and is heavily funded by Democracy Alliance, of which Soros is a major financier.
122. Mercy Corps: Vis a vis the Arab-Israeli conflict, Mercy Corps places all blame for Palestinian poverty and suffering directly on Israel.
123. Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund: This group advocates open borders, free college tuition for illegal aliens, lowered educational standards to accommodate Hispanics, and voting rights for criminals. In MALDEF’s view, supporters of making English the official language of the United States are “motivated by racism and anti-immigrant sentiments,” while advocates of sanctions against employers reliant on illegal labor seek to discriminate against “brown-skinned people.”
124. Meyer, Suozzi, English and Klein, PC: This influential defender of Big Labor is headed by Democrat operativeHarold Ickes.
125. Midwest Academy: This entity trains radical activists in the tactics of direct action, targeting, confrontation, and intimidation.
126. Migration Policy Institute: This group seeks to create “a North America with gradually disappearing border controls … with permanent migration remaining at moderate levels.”
127. Military Families Speak Out: This group ascribes the U.S. invasion of Iraq to American imperialism and lust for oil.
128. Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment: This group is the rebranded Missouri branch of the now-defunct, pro-socialist, community organization ACORN.
129. MoveOn.org: This Web-based organization supports Democratic political candidates through fundraising, advertising, and get-out-the-vote drives.
130. Ms. Foundation for Women: This group laments what it views as the widespread and enduring flaws of American society: racism, sexism, homophobia, and the violation of civil rights and liberties. It focuses its philanthropy on groups that promote affirmative action for women, unfettered access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, amnesty for illegal aliens, and big government generally.
131. Muslim Advocates: Opposed to U.S. counter-terrorism strategies that make use of sting operations and informants, MA characterizes such tactics as forms of “entrapment” that are inherently discriminatory against Muslims.
132. NARAL Pro-Choice America: This group supports taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, and works to elect pro-abortion Democrats.
133. NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund: The NAACP supports racial preferences in employment and education, as well as the racial gerrymandering of voting districts. Underpinning its support for race preferences is the fervent belief that white racism in the United States remains an intractable, largely undiminished, phenomenon.

135. National Abortion Federation: This group opposes any restrictions on abortion at either the state or federal levels, and champions the introduction of unrestricted abortion into developing regions of the world.
136. National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty: This group was established in 1976 as the first “fully staffed national organization exclusively devoted to abolishing capital punishment.”
137. National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy: This group depicts the United States as a nation in need of dramatic structural change financed by philanthropic organizations. It overwhelmingly promotes grant-makers and grantees with leftist agendas, while criticizing their conservative counterparts.
138. National Committee for Voting Integrity: This group opposes “the implementation of proof of citizenship and photo identification requirements for eligible electors in American elections as the means of assuring election integrity.”
139. National Council for Research on Women: This group supports big government, high taxes, military spending cuts, increased social welfare spending, and the unrestricted right to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand.
140. National Council of La Raza: This group lobbies for racial preferences, bilingual education, stricter hate-crime laws, mass immigration, and amnesty for illegal aliens.
141. National Council of Women’s Organizations: This group views the United States as a nation rife with injustice against girls and women. It advocates high levels of spending for social welfare programs, and supports race and gender preferences for minorities and women in business and academia.

National Immigration Forum: Opposing the enforcement of present immigration laws, this organization urges the American government to “legalize” en masse all illegal aliens currently in the United States who have no criminal records, and to dramatically increase the number of visas available for those wishing to migrate to the U.S. The Forum is particularly committed to opening the borders to unskilled, low-income workers, and immediately making them eligible for welfare and social service programs.
143. National Immigration Law Center: This group seeks to win unrestricted access to government-funded social welfare programs for illegal aliens.

National Lawyers Guild: This group promotes open borders; seeks to weaken America’s intelligence-gathering agencies; condemns the Patriot Act as an assault on civil liberties; rejects capitalism as an unviable economic system; has rushed to the defense of convicted terrorists and their abettors; and generally opposes all U.S. foreign policy positions, just as it did during the Cold War when it sided with the Soviets.
145. National Organization for Women: This group advocates the unfettered right to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand; seeks to “eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia” from American society; attacks Christianity and traditional religious values; and supports gender-based preferences for women.

155. Pacifica Foundation: This entity owns and operates Pacifica Radio, awash from its birth with the socialist-Marxist rhetoric of class warfare and hatred for capitalism.
156. Palestinian Center for Human Rights: This NGO investigates and documents what it views as Israeli human-rights violations against Palestinians.

1. Center for Progressive Leadership: Funded by the Soros-bankrolled Democracy Alliance, this anti-capitalist organization is dedicated to training future leftist political leaders.

John Adams Project:This project of the American Civil Liberties Union was accused of: (a) having hired investigators to photograph CIA officers thought to have been involved in enhanced interrogations of terror suspects detained in Guantanamo, and then (b) showing the photos to the attorneys of those suspects, some of whom were senior al-Qaeda operatives.
3. Moving Ideas Network (MIN): This coalition of more than 250 leftwing activist groups is a partner organization of the Soros-backed Center for American Progress. MIN was originally a project of the Soros-backed American Prospect and, as such, received indirect funding from the Open Society Institute. In early 2006, The American Prospect relinquished control of the Moving Ideas Network.
4. New Organizing Institute: Created by the Soros-funded MoveOn.org, this group “trains young, technology-enabled political organizers to work for progressive campaigns and organizations.”
5. Think Progress: This “project” of the American Progress Action Fund, which is a “sister advocacy organization”of the Soros-funded Center for American Progress and Campus Progress, seeks to transform “progressive ideas into policy through rapid response communications, legislative action, grassroots organizing and advocacy, and partnerships with other progressive leaders throughout the country and the world.”
6. Vote for Change: Coordinated by the political action committee of the Soros-funded MoveOn.org, Vote for Change was a group of 41 musicians and bands that performed concerts in several key election “battleground”states during October 2004, to raise money in support of Democrat John Kerry‘s presidential bid.
7. Working Families Party: Created in 1998 to help push the Democratic Party toward the left, this front group for the Soros-funded ACORN functions as a political party that promotes ACORN-friendly candidates.

Has Francis joined Pro-Abortion BLM in “Apparent Approval” of the Anti-nuclear Family Propaganda?

Francis, it appears, is allowing, one of his closest collaborators, Cardinal Reinhard Marx and his German bishops to continue in the porn business which is a prime destroyer of family life.

Marx and the German bishop’s huge porn publishing company sold pornography for over a decade. The bishops were rebuked by Pope Benedict XVI after he was informed. After the papal rebuke, the German bishops promised the porn business would be sold according to Lifesitenews.com articles on October 31 and November 23, 2011.

The blog Vox Cantoris on September 18, 2015 wrote that Cardinal Marx and the German bishops were still in the same porn business and Francis did not “call them out.” The blog’s headline was “Why is Pope Francis blind to Germany’s rich and porn producing bishops?”:

“We know that they cannot win, that the “gates of Hell will not prevail” but in these times we must ask, ‘Where is the Pope?'”

“A few years ago, LifeSiteNews wrote about the ‘German Bishops being caught in a massive porn scandal.’ After a papal rebuke, they announced that it would be sold. In 2016, Francis’s next x-rated outrage was appointing Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia to head the Pontifical Council for the Family. The papal appointee commissioned a gay neo-pornographic mural at his former cathedral which was called “blasphemous,” “disgusting,” and “demonic” according to Lifesitenews.com on March 15, 2017. 
Francis is apparently promoting porn, anti-nuclear family and homosexuality propaganda for “youth”:

The sex abuse experts stated that the Paglia headed Vatican Pontifical Council for the Family developed and approved the program called Meeting Point that “contained homoerotic and hetersexual pornography which was like that employed by adult predators of youth.”

The experts said “even more troubling is the role of Pope Francis. His apparent approval of the Meeting Point program… with its homoerotic content and hetersexual pornography was severely negligent.“

The two experts said the porn predator-like program “should be withdrawn as soon as possible by the Vatican and its website closed.”

Pro-abortion Black Lives Matter has joined Francis in apparently promoting homosexual and anti-nuclear family propaganda as documented by this Christian Post article: 
The founders of the movement, the #BlackLivesMatter Foundation (BLMF), created it to radically shift culture. The far-left Ford Foundation, the world’s largest population control organization, vowed in 2016 to raise $100 million for the Movement for Black Lives (MFBL) — a nationwide coalition of BLM groups (including BLMF). MFBL released a shocking manifesto of policy positions that are deeply political and deeply disturbing. 
Drawing mostly from those positions, here are the top ten reasons why I will never support the #BlackLivesMatter movement. 
1. The premise isn’t true. According to the FBI’s latest homicide statistics, I’m eleven times more likely to be killed by someone of my own brown complexion than a white person. Also, a comprehensive 2019 study concluded: “White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers.” Every loss of life is tragic, but Washington Post’s database on police-involved deaths puts things into context. In 2020, among those killed were 76 black males and 149 white males (whose deaths are don’t get reported by national mainstream media). Only nine black individuals were actually unarmed.
2. There is no goal of forgiveness or reconciliation. None. It’s never mentioned on their sites. You can’t talk about the sins of the past and expect to move forward if there is no intention of forgiveness. I’m tired of the color-based oppressed/oppressor critical race theory paradigm. It’s not Gospel-centered. This should, immediately, be a deal-breaker for Christians.
3. It’s all about Black Power. It’s plastered all over the MFBL website. BLMF founders explain their “herstory”: “It became clear that we needed to continue organizing and building Black power across the country.” I don’t promote social colorblindness; I love all of our diverse hues of skin. But I’m so much more than my pigmentation. Martin Luther King promoted “God’s power and human power.” I’m with him.
4. They heavily promote homosexuality and transgenderism. “We foster a queer‐affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking.” I’m not embracing confusion. The Bible is unambiguous about sexuality. Loving every human being is not the same as loving every human doing.
5. They completely ignore fatherhood. From BLMF: “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.” Well, every “village” that has fatherless families is a village that suffers higher crime rates, higher drug usage, higher abortion rates, higher drop-out rates, higher poverty rates, and so much more. #DadsMatter.
6. They demand reparations. Ok. Sooooo, I guess the white half of me will have to pay the black half of me? If progressives want to push reparations, start with the Party of Slavery and Jim Crow — the Democrat Party! Let them ante up. But the #BlackLivesMatter movement bizarrely demands: “Reparations for…full and free access for all Black people (including undocumented and currently and formerly incarcerated people) to lifetime education…retroactive forgiveness of student loans, and support for lifetime learning programs.” Uhhh, good luck with that.
7. They want to abolish prisons and police forces. And…cue utter chaos. MFBL asserts: “We believe that prisons, police and all other institutions that inflict violence on Black people must be abolished…” Defund and remove the police have been rallying cries. That would be anarchy in any community. I advocate some needed police reforms, including more accountability and better community/police relations, but this is just foolishness. 
8. They are anti-capitalism. Oh the irony of this declaration made by a movement that is the result of capitalism: “We are anti-capitalist. We believe and understand that Black people will never achieve liberation under the current global racialized capitalist system.” The videos that make us aware of police brutality are captured on phones that are a result of capitalism. The best way to elevate people out of material poverty? Capitalism. This system is why the United States is the most charitable nation. 
9. Colin Kaepernick supports it. A “biracial” adoptee, Kaepernick is now obsessed with his “blackness.” He idolizes the late murderous Fidel Castro and Che Guevara and worships Malcolm X (just see his social media feeds). Malcolm X was anti-integration, pro-violence and a member of the virulently racist Nation of Islam (who forced him out). Kaepernick makes millions from Nike — a company whose entire Executive Leadership Team is white (isn’t this white supremacy???) — that makes its shoes in the most murderous regime in the world. Kaepernick, of course, is completely silent on that. But you know, #SocialJusticeWarrior.
10. Apparently, not all black lives matter. Pro-abortion BLMF declared: “We deserve and thus we demand reproductive justice [aka abortion] that gives us autonomy over our bodies and our identities while ensuring that our children and families are supported, safe, and able to thrive.” Aborted children don’t thrive. BLM groups announced “solidarity” with “reproductive justice” groups back in February 2015. You cannot simultaneously fight violence while celebrating it.

Is Bishop Gracida the only Real Pro-life Bishop in the United States?

Bishop Rene Gracida was a courageous World War II airman, ex-monk, friend of Pope John Paul II and the “Savior of EWTN” who appears to be the only real pro-life bishop in the United States.

The larger-than-life Bishop Gracida is a real life hero who makes all the other living bishops in the United States look like Lilliputian Pee Wee Hermans by comparison especially when it comes to saving the lives of the unborn babies.

Catholic Monitor commenter Fr. VF affirmed that Gracida is the only real pro-life bishop in the United States:

“The scene in Corpus Christi was altogether different: It was as though everything was set up in anticipation of Moses’ arrival. He found spiritual support from Bishop Rene Gracida of the Corpus Christi Diocese, financial support from local developer and lawyer Cliff Zarsky, and even law enforcement encouragement from Nueces County Sheriff James Hickey.”

“It was Hickey who first brought Corpus Christi into the national abortion debate in January. After several sessions with Moses, the sheriff placed on his office walls graphic posters of fetuses being aborted. He also announced that he would not stop protesters from blocking abortion clinics because it would be ‘abetting murder.’ His position on selective enforcement of the laws was endorsed by Gracida, who commended Hickey for his ‘courageous and unequivocal statements.'”

“But many in the community were outraged. ‘Here you have the top law enforcement official saying he would not enforce the law,’ said Virginia Pursley, director of Planned Parenthood of South Texas. ‘He chose to be a law enforcement official. He took an oath that he would enforce the laws. And now he is saying he cannot enforce a law? Can he pick and choose? Tomorrow he might not like the color purple. To me he is promoting lawlessness and anarchy.'”

“The Corpus Christi police chief, Henry Garrett, was caught in the middle. He disagreed with Hickey’s policy, but did not want to exacerbate the situation by arresting antiabortion protesters all the time. In the year since Moses arrived, Body of Christ Rescue has conducted 22 protests. So far there have been no arrests.”

“Six months after Hickey publicly joined ranks with the antiabortion movement, Gracida intensified the Corpus Christi drama. On June 1 he excommunicated 32-year-old Rachel Vargas, director of a local women’s clinic, for what he called “sins against God and humanity.” Vargas was shocked and disheartened. She said the bishop had never met her, never heard her story, did not know how many women she had talked out of abortions. ‘In an earlier time I would have been burned at the stake,’ she said. The national abortion rights movement was alarmed, saying Gracida’s action was unprecedented and marked a new effort by U.S. Catholic bishops to silence church members who voiced pro-choice views.”

“Gracida, a self-described ‘shy, retiring introvert,’ said he was merely following canon law and did not want to become a national figure. At last a real shepherd who is not afraid to name names. As far as I know, no other bishop has used Obama’s name. If only all the bishops had the same “guts,” the killing of unborn children would soon be history.

Anyone with “an ear to hear” clearly knows that no Catholic can vote for Obama with a clear conscience – no matter what Doug Kmiec, Roman Catholics for Obama, or any other misguided Catholic may declare. As Bishop Martino declared: “This is madness, people.”

We will hold these peaceful vigils, and hopefully have some good “face time” with the media. If we do our job right, we could have millions of Catholics hear the truth through the vehicle of the secular media.

We beg the prayers of our compatriots, and invite others to join us.

Maybe Our Lady – for the sake of the Innocent – will honor the cries and sighs that have touched her Immaculate Heart.

Betrayal? Fox News Cuts Off Newt Gingrich for Linking George Soros to Race Riots

Leftists in the government, the establishment media and Big Tech are often criticized for their extreme notions of censorship against “hate speech,” which usually refers discomforting words or ideas they disagree with.

The political right would call anyone who supports silencing another’s speech “un-American,” citing our constitutional right to freedom of speech and proclaiming its fundamental importance in obtaining truth.

On Wednesday night, Fox News silenced former House speaker Newt Gingrich on live television.

Why?

He said one name: George Soros.

Gingrich was attributing the ever-growing rate of crime in Democrat-run cities to the installation of district attorneys who have allegedly been financed by Soros.

In closing his discussion with “Outnumbered” host Harris Faulkner, Gingrich was allowed his final thought.

“Look, the number-one problem in almost all these cities is George Soros-elected, left-wing, anti-police, pro-criminal district attorneys who refuse to keep people locked up,” he said.

“Just yesterday they put somebody back on the streets who’s wanted for two different murders in New York City.”

Gingrich then criticized Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their endorsement of said problematic attorneys.

“You cannot solve this problem, and both Harris and Biden have talked very proudly out what they call ‘progressive district attorneys,’” he argued.

“Progressive district attorneys are anti-police, pro-criminal and overwhelmingly elected with George Soros’ money.”

That is when things got awkward.

Finalizing his thoughts, Gingrich said, “They’re a major cause of the violence we’re seeing because they keep putting the violent criminals back on the street.”

“I’m not sure we need to bring George Soros into this,” commentator Melissa Francis responded.

Faulkner was visibly caught off-guard by the interjection.

“He paid for it,” Gingrich rebutted. “I mean, why can’t we discuss the fact that millions of dollars–”

Immediately another Fox News commentator, Marie Harf, cut in: “No, he didn’t. I agree with Melissa. George Soros doesn’t need to be a part of this conversation.”

The program was completely silent as the camera rested on Harf for an odd moment before switching back to Faulkner, who also sat in hesitant silence.

“OK, so it’s verboten,” Gingrich finally said.

The program continued in the most pregnant on-air pause I’ve ever seen on Fox before Faulkner gave her closer for the segment.

Francis and Harf didn’t respond to his claims with counter-evidence; they simply pounded the table with their own preferred perspective on Soros, as if to correct Gingrich.

Breitbart has reported on Soros’ history funding DAs throughout the nation with a goal “to defeat ‘law-and-order’ candidates and elect ‘progressive’ prosecutors.”

Among these prosecutors, according to Breitbart, are “Kim Foxx, the Chicago-area prosecutor who mishandled the Jussie Smollet hate crime hoax; Kim Garnder, the St. Louis prosecutor who charged the McCloskeys after they defended their home from a Black Lives Matter mob by standing outside with their guns; and Diana Becton, who has charged a California couple with a hate crime for painting over a ‘Black Lives Matter’ mural on a public road.”Should anyone’s name be off limits in public discourse?Yes No  Completing this poll entitles you to The Western Journal news updates free of charge. Given the context of Soros’ intimate relationship with leftist extremism, why does it seem like Fox News commentators are at his defense? Or at least silencing discussion about him?

Faulkner apologized Thursday, saying the interruptions of Gingrich were “not ideal” and that he should’ve been allowed to express himself without interruption.

“Do we debate with fire here? Yes. This moment won’t bode well for Fox News with viewers who are aware of Soros’ apparently significant financial influence in America’s political landscape.

Such censorship is unbecoming of journalists and only garners suspicion that will ultimately discredit the service they purport to provide trusting Americans.
